Denver Broncos v Buffalo Bills @ Ralph Wilson Stadium
Broncos[4-0]
Bills[3-1]
The game was pretty much Broncos from the opening kickoff. Denver forced the Bills to a 3 and out on their first possession. When the ball was put into Phillip River's hands he immediately hooked up with Torry Holt for the first points of the game. On the next Bills possession, Sean Taylor some how came up with a fumble recovery. Coach Shanahan rewarded Taylor for his awareness by placing him on offense for a series at the tailback position in place of Clinton Portis. Coach Shanahan told reporters that Taylor's one of the only defensive players that he'd let play on the offensive side of the ball because Taylor was an all-american back in high school. Anyway. it took Taylor 3 plays to get into the endzone, rushing for 19 yards on 3 attempts.Once again, Denver forced the Bills to punt, this time Deltha O'neal returned the punt all the way back for a 59 yard TD. Buffalo finally got on the board with the passing of Drew Bledsoe. Bledsoe actually had a pretty good night, as he was picking apart the Bronco secondary most of the night. Phillip Rivers suffered a strained PCL and he had to sit out 2 quarters. Fellow rookie Eli Manning stepped in for the injured Rivers in the last seconds of the second quarter and for the whole third quarter. He started out shaky by throwing an INT his first play of his NFL career. Next Bronco possession he redeemed himself by hooking up with Marcus Robinson for a TD. Drew Bledsoe was able to get the Bills 7 more as he and Eric Moulds got together for a 34 yard strike. But in no time, the rookie Eli Manning would retalite with a TD pass to Mark Campbell to put the score at 35-14. At the start of the fourth quarter, Rivers was back in the line up and was on fire as he marched the Bills down the field, completing 7 of 8 passes on this drive.. This drive ended with Clinton Portis smashing his way through the Bills D line for the TD.However, the Bills weren't done as Travis Henry tried to help the Bills mount a come back. When the Bills got the ball back, they were on their own 3 and Trevor Pryce came up with the sack for the safety. Denver punted and put the Bills on their 22 yard line, and Drew Bledsoe threw an interception that was tipped around by the secondary of the Broncos and finally caught by Ian Gold who returned it for a TD. It was challenged and reversed so it didn't count, but the Broncos didn't need it anyway as they won with the final score 44-21.
