    ESPN Presents: The 2005 NYG's

Everyone in the New York/New Jersey can say they are excited about football this coming season, whether it be for their NY Jets, or Blue NY Giants.
However, it's hard to dispute that the Giants look to have an interesting season with their plate-moving draft pick of Eli Manning who looks ready to make this team his. Pre-season is just around the corner, and folks are anxious to see how Eli can do before the actual season starts.

Expectations are low for the Giants this year, but that doesn't mean that they don't expect much out of Eli. Understanding that he's a rookie, the franchise has started to build around him already, so it's obviously important that he can step up and deliver.

The goal is to win 6-8 games this season, and improve the horrid pass defense from last season, as well as the defense as a whole.

Nobody wants to call this a rebuilding year, since the G-Men were just hit hard with injuries last season, and they lost their focus near the middle of the season. That is set to change with Coach Tom Coughlin coming in to be the boss of the club. The players haven't responded well quite yet, but Coughlin will stay, trying to win over the respect of his players. He is certain that his tough coaching style will prosper, here in NY.

Re: ESPN Presents: The 2005 NYG's

In preperation for their upcoming game against the regional rival New York Jets, ELI MANNING watched plenty of tapes and did certain QB exercises that should help him out in this weekends game. KURT WARNER will play the first half of the game, however.

TIKI BARBER worked on his arms, which should help him hold on to the ball, something he has had trouble with in the past.

Rookie Linebacker from Auburn, REGGIE TORBOR and 3-year prospect NICK GREISEN (Wisconsin) are being slept on this off-season, and could anchor an up-and-coming linebacker core in this NFL. They also worked hard this week, and gained the respect of Tom Coughlin.

The DBs, WILL ALLEN, WILLIAM PETERSON, and Rookie GIBRIL WILSON (Tennessee), showed impressive workouts during the week.

The G-Men were ready for their game again the Jets this weekend.

        First Look at the Giants

The Giants and the Jets meet today in East Rutherford, and both teams are obviously looking for good starts that will continue through the rest of the Pre-Season.

The world was introduced to a new option for the Big Blue offense. WILLIE PONDER from SE Missouri State had a coming out party in this game. He caught for a LOUD 73 yards. The rest of the recievers looked good in this game as well, but PONDER, definetly stood out.

Kurt Warner had a below average showing, but he wasn't terrible. He was sacked twice because of a slow release. TIKI BARBER wowed naysayers and carried the ball effectively.

On the otherside of the field, Curtis Martin ran the ball well, too. Chad Pennington did well after an injury plagued previous season. The Jets' offense looks promising with a healthy Pennington and Martin, and a growing Santana Moss and Justin McCareins. Jonathan Vilma showed that he's ready for the big leagues.

        -------

ELI MANNING had an average game, but the fans were happy with his performance.

The Jets pulled out the victory at the end due to a field goal, but both teams played well.

        Jets win, 27-24.

Eli Manning 9/17, 205 yards, TD
        Tiki Barber 111 yards, TD
        Willie Ponder 73 yards
        Nick Greisen 4 tackles
William Peterson 2 tackles, INT for a TD

Curtis Martin 119 yards, 21 attempts, TD
Chad Pennington 206 yards, 2 TD
Santana Moss 2 receptions, 51 yards
Justin McCareins 2 receptions, 80 yards
        Jonathan Vilma 5 tackles

The Cheifs came to Giants Stadium to play The Big Blue.

There are no stats to recollect on, but it was said that Coughlin gave RB RON DAYNE a chance to prove himself, and he rushed for 80-some-odd yards and was impressive. TIKI BARBER and RON DAYNE would share carries if RON DAYNE can keep this up.

That was the biggest story in this game. The Giants won convincingly, 37-21.

After the bye week, the Giants would meet their division rivals in a pre-season game. Fans would get a good look at both Eli Manning and Sean Taylor, 2 of the high draft picks.

Again, there are no stats to recollect on, but it was reported that ELI MANNING did not have an outstanding game to say the least. SEAN TAYLOR was impressive with 6 tackles.

The Redskins win this one 26-14, and finish the pre-season 3-1.

The Giants meet the Colts at home to finish their pre-season.

                    Pre-Season News Report

KEVIN MAWAE and the Jets were hit hard in their last pre-season game. Mawae will miss at least 8 weeks with a Torn Calf Muscle

LADANIAN TOMLINSON has been placed on the trading block by the San Diego Chargers. He is not happy with the direction of the team, and the GM overheard these comments. Because of this, TOMLINSON was placed on the trading block, but the Chargers GM hasn't stated what kind of talent he would want to receive in return.

It's Manning vs. Manning. Eli vs. Peyton. Brother against Brother. People would like to see this as a future SB game in the next few years. But right now, they will compete in Pre-Season against each other. Leading up to the game, Eli was promised to start things, and play as much as he needed.

ELI MANNING, did his thing, and led the Giants to a huge blowout victory. In this final Pre-Season game, Eli threw for 292 yards with 2 Touchdowns. The offense was rocking on all cylinders, and the defense was impressive.

Giants win their final pre-season game over the Colts 39-7, and finish the Pre-Season 2-2.

                        ELI MANNING 16-20, 292 YARDS, 2 TD
                        TIKI BARBER 113 YARDS, TD
JEREMY SHOCKEY 6 REC, 213 YARDS, 2 TDs
                        OMAR STOUTMIRE 2 INT

PEYTON MANNING 18-40, 280 YARDS, TD, 2 INT
MARCUS POLLARD 4 REC, 80 YARDS
MARVIN HARRISON 7 REC, 101 YARDS, TD
