The most enjoyable way to think up fake names for your players

So, unless you want to have an entire team made up of names like "Tyler Russell" you will eventually turn to naming some of your players yourself.

I have found a way I really enjoy to do this, and it's cool for multiple reasons.

Wherever they are from, I spend a couple of minutes researching the football team in their hometown. Gives me an idea of the mascot name, and a few other things. Maxpreps or other sites have rosters. I don't name any players directly after a kid on the team (although you could I guess) but I pick a first and last name from the team roster that seem to be believable.

This has resulted in names that seem to fit the player and where they are from, specifically if their culture is found in those names.

Awesome idea here Hellisan! I will be definitely be trying this out down the road if I become disillusioned with the names, which I am sure will happen with time.

I used to love making fake names for players and I still do now. I've come up with numerous crazy names like Baby Snoots and San McGigabobber lol but one thing I like to do is look back at college football players from 1995-2000 and imagine if they had kids. For example, I created Dan Henson, a fake son of Drew Henson who plays QB for Michigan. Or like Sam Weinke, Chris Weinke's fake son as the QB for Florida State. I also like to make up fake relatives of real players, like Corey Manziel, QB of Texas A&M, Johnny Manziel's fake cousin or Zach Gardner, QB of Michigan, Devin Gardner's fake brother. Then you could also combine names of famous people, like Cam Manning or Tom Palmer. Creating fake names can be really fun if you get into it.

I've started doing this myself, as well as editing skin tones and other features from the various editors floating around.

It really adds to the experience in a long dynasty run. I do a little research for realistic Polynesian names, but I was directed by someone else over on the NCAA boards to a random name generator (there are a few you can choose from if you do a google search) that can give you some ideas of common, not-so-regular and rare names based on your preference.

What I did was I took every player from NBA, NFL and NBA history and every player from NCAA Basketball right now for US players and put them to list randomizer

I don't use any sort of name generator or anything but changing recruits' names every once in a while does help the dynasty universe feel a bit more organic. I don't change full names though, just usually I may add a bit of "flare" to a person's first name.

Typically, every so often I may change a guy with a "short" name like Mike to something like "Michelangelo." Or a Tom to Tommy. I may even change a Chad to Chaz. Trevor to Trev. Mark to Marco. Mark to Markus with a "k." My current RB was recruited as a Bernard Davis but now I have him as Bernie Davis.

The once famous Dre Harris' original name was Andrew Harris.

In an old dynasty I had I once changed a Corey to a JaCorey.

Also, as crazy as it sounds, I tend to stay away from some recruits whose names I just don't like or look too generic...I.E. Jim Smith, Mike Johnson, Tim Jones, etc. Especially if it is at a position that will be reported on in my dynasty. Something just feels boring about writing/reporting on "Jim Smith rushed for 100 yards."

Lastly, and this is new for me...I have begun adding "Jr." or "III" to some players' names. I had a recruit named Buck Johnson and I quickly learned there was a Buck Johnson Jr. that used to play in the NBA, so I changed my players' name to Buck Johnson III.

I am even considering maybe one of my players turning to the Nation of Islam at some point and acquiring a Muslim name too haha

I've used generators for some, I've looked at old recruiting lists for inspiriation and I've used a few from the bottom of the rankings for fairly unknown players.

I had thought of doing the III / II / IV thing and then saw the Buck Johnson thing and thought that was pretty awesome, good job.
