Thanks to GM Jerry West's astute moves and coach Hubie Brown's leadership, the Grizzlies racked up 50 wins to shatter the franchise record. But will they be able to live up to that feat yet again this year? The fans in Memphis have been waiting all offseason to see if their home team has taken their skill to another level.


Starting Five
pg - Jason Williams - He`ll be looked at to become the soul general of the team on the court. He has the ability to change the pace of the game at any point in time. Has great court vision, and the ability to score.
sg - Bonzi Wells - A great addition to the team last year, brings scoring and solid defense to the board. Should be able to help this franchise get where they want to be.
sf - Mike Miller - A great shooter, who can catch fire at any point and will help this team in many ways but especially on the offensive end of the court. Also matches up good with most small forwards in the game.
pf - Stromile Swift - Plays both center and power forward, a great rebounder and is also fantastic around the basket.
c - Pau Gasol - Big 7-footer from Spain who is also a threat from close. Had a solid year last season, averaging 20 per points per contest. Coaches expect an even better year than last from him.

After their first two games, the Grizzlies are two for two. One game versus the Wizards resulting in a blow out with a final score of 104 to 70. The second game they went up against the new look Rockets, in a hard fought high scoring game, but in the end the Grizz came out on top with a final score of 117 to 112.

Expansion Tracker

The Charlotte Bobcats win their first game in franchise history over the Washington Wizards, a shock to me and many others. Emeka Okafor led the Bobcats attack with 20 points to go along with his 9 rebounds, he had plenty of help from the rest of the Bobcat team. Seven other players got into double-figures for them. The Bobcats beat the Wizards in a final score of 112 to 99. We`ll see if the Bobcats can keep this type of play later down the road.


Champion Tracker

The defending champs came back this season all gased up and ready for a great season. They`ve played two games so far and have won both convincingly. The first against the Rockets, and the second versus the Raptors. Rip Hamilton led the way in both with 20 plus points. They showed great teamwork and excellent defense in their first two games as they did last year on their road to a championship. They actually looked better with the additions of Antonio McDyess and Derrick Coleman. We`ll see if the Pistons can make a repeat performance.

The Grizz went into Dallas with a 2-0 record. While the Mavs were sitting at 0-2. It was a very slow paced game throughout the first quarter. The lead would go back and forth up until about the four minute mark or the second quarter That`s when the Grizzlies went on a 25 to 5 run and went in at halftime up by 19.

They were able to keep their lead throughout the whole third quarter. Nearing the end of the game, Dirk Nowitzki and Micheal Finley lead a late surge that would come up just a few points short, and the Grizz took the game with a final score of 119 to 109.

Memphis was trying to remain unbeaten as they traveled to Houston. Meanwhile, the Rockets were looking to avenge their previous loss to the Grizz.

From the tip-off, the game wasn`t close. The Grizz were by 20 plus for the majority of the game. Until the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter, that`s when the Rockets made a late surge to bring the lead down to 10. But the Grizz were able to hold them off and came out with the 99 to 91 win.
