True that... one of the good things about having a bad record (albeit a good one for a first-year expansion team) is that you've pretty much got the run of whomever you wanna draft.

Hmm. I don't have NBA 2K5 (or Live right now, for that matter), so I've got a question. In the real NBA, the Bobcats only have a fraction of everyone else's salary cap (two-thirds, I think, and then three-quarters next year), until 2006-07, when I think they've got 100%. Is that accurately simulated in the game?

The salary cap is relatively comfortable for me, since my highest paid player is Emeka with 3.86 mil a year.

Former vs. Now Bobcats hosts the Hornets

Charlotte was obviously upset with the dismissal of the Hornets, but now they are a little excited about their new team, the Bobcats. The word on the curb was that this was the most important game of the season thus far.

Charlotte came out fired up, and for good reason. They shot very well, better than they have shot all season. Brevin Knight controlled the tempo and turned this game into a Run'N'Shoot type of deal. When Brevin went to the bench, Jason Hart came in and did the same thing. Stars are starting to come out of their shells as well. The Bobcats had 6 players in double-figures compared to the Hornets 3. Slay was the most consistent scorer throughout the game, but Baron Davis could've almost done it by his own doing.

The Bobcats led 63-54 at the half.

In the second half, Charlotte did not let up. They continued to shoot well, and the Hornets could never close the gap. Bobcats win 108-87.

            Charlotte Bobcats
Tamar Slay 19 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assist
Jason Kapono 17 points, 4 assist (off the bench)
Melvin Ely 16 points, 10 rebounds
            Corey Benjamin 15 points 2/4 3Fgs, 5 rebounds, 4 assist
Emeka Okafor 14 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assist

            New Orleans Hornets
Baron Davis 31 points, 11 assist, 4 rebounds
Jamaal Magloire 17 points, 13 rebounds
PJ Brown 16 points, 13 rebounds

                League Highs and Lows

The Detroit Pistons (17-5) are still playing great ball, even with the target on their backs after a championship run. Rip Hamilton has been their MVP thus far, averaging 21 points per game, 4.2 rebounds and 4.9 assist. They are atop the challenging Central Division that also includes Indiana, Cleveland and Milwaukee.

The Bulls can't be that. Well, that's what the consensus was before this campaign. They were said to have a lot of still-young talent. The Bulls are 1-20. They have won one basketball game. This is exactly why Kirk Hinrich has been so anxious to get out of here before it gets worse, if it can get worse. Hinrich would love to take his 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.4 assist elsewhere (rumors have him in Toronto around January) and be in the post-season. Coming out of Kansas, that is what he expects. Ben Gordon, however, is a slight bright spot, having a good rookie year on a terrible team. He's averaging 11.4 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assist per game.

The Clippers are playing very exceptional ball this season (15-7). In Dunleavy's second year as the head coach, this team is playing how he wants them to. Maybe all it took was playing time for everyone that deserves it. Despite losing Quentin Richardson to Phoenix, but gaining Kittles, this team is playing solid team ball. Elton Brand continues to be the staple, and Kerry Kittles fits in well (17.4 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per). Maggette continues to play well too (13.2 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game, 4.6 assist, team leader).

Kobe Bryant is the obvious focal point of this team, but he's finding it as difficult as advertised to lead this team to the promised land. He's only averaging 20.9 points per game, but has an unusual 7.8 rebounds per game. He also leads the team in asisst with 6.0 assist per game and 53% field goal shooting. Odom and Butler came over from Miami, and Odom has seemed to fit in decently with 15.3 point, 6.7 rebounds and 4.6 assist per game. Butler is coming off the bench with 8.1 poings and 4 rebounds per game. It may be a little too earlier to panic, but this team is flirting with .500, just coming off of a 3 game win streak. They are currently 11-12.

                        Bobcats host Houston Rockets

The Bobcats face their second Southwest opponent at the end of the week. Charlotte (7-12) is playing better ball than they expected this season, and Houston (15-8) seems to have their role players in place and are looking like favorites for the NBA Championship.

Charlotte was not able to maintain Yao Ming from the start, and he was the obvious catalyst for the game, and his team. Emeka Okafor and Melvin Ely were having all kinds of trouble guarding him. Yao finished with 28 points on an astounding 13-15 shooting.

Charlotte got in the hole early, but Jason Kapono came off of the bench and offensively put the Bobcats on his back. At halftime however, Charlotte was still down by double-digits, 61-48.

In the second half, it was more of the same in an eventless 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, Charlotte got good ball movement and came back within 6 points with 3 minutes to go. They could not do enough to close the gap, however, and lose the game 101-91.

                        Charlotte Bobcats
Jason Kapono 33 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assist

Lots of Player Movement In The League

Mike Miller and Kirk Hinrich were spontaneously traded to the Toronto Raptors, despite being from different initial ball clubs.

Chris Bosh and a 1st round pick for 2005 was sent to Chicago, who can use all of the help available. Chicago was able to rid themselves of an unhappy Kirk Hinrich. Still, they are 1-21.

Mike Miller was sent packing north of the border to Toronto, and Memphis was able to acquire Alvin Williams in the mix.
