The Season: Western Illinois University (CH2K5)

We join coach Travis Pitta and his Western Illinois Leathernecks already one game into the 2004-2005 season. In their first game of the season, WIU traveled up to the University of Iowa where after holding their own through the first half, eventually fell short to the overmatch Big 10 opponent by a final score of 62-40.

Coach Pitta pointed towards poor shot selection and early season jitters as a reason for the lose. "We played real well definsively but as expected the better team finally had their run," Pitta stated citing Iowa's 14-4 and 18-6 point 2nd half runs. "This surely gives us some things to work on in practice this week. Shooting will be a major focus this week."

WIU travels to California with a matchup with Pac 10 member, UCLA (1-0)tonight at 7:00 pm. This is the 2nd game of a harsh non-conference schedule that WIU faces. Indiana, DePaul, and Notre Dame are other tough opponents still left to come for the 'Necks. "We're really happy to have such an opportunity to face such a team as UCLA. With all the history they have it's going to be great just to step foot in that building. The kids realize the opportunity they've been given and their chomping at the bit to get started. It should be a lot of fun," said Pitta following a practice Tuesday afternoon.

"The Season" will show highlights of tonights game later on this evening or tomorrow. Check back soon!!
