Currently I am on year three with the Purple Aces of Evansville university, but before I go any further Let us reflect on the past.
Year 1- Nicholls St. Hires an uknown coach who's only recorded history was coaching the keyzersoze leauge in Turkey and Assistant Coach in a church leauge in Indiana. No sports analyst had no idea on what coach Ryan Reed was going to do but they assumed that the Colonels(sp?) of Nicholls St. would just have another single-digit win season. Coach Reed was bound to prove all critics wrong and his team sensed it,even with a team with only 8 players and no upperclassmen. "All we need is to believe in each other" said Reed after the last practice before the season, and believe they did. In what will go down as the ultimate cinderella story in the history of sports, the Nicholls State Cololnels posted a 33-0 record, become the first team since the 1976 Indiana Hoosiers to have a perfect season. On their way to history Nicholls State surprised many of the favorites, including Georgia Tech,Michigan State,Duke, and defending champ UConn. The key player behind the miracle season left after his freshman year to jump to the NBA and a year after proving everybody wrong, the next year would be the total opposite.
Year 2- Year two was the complete opposite of year 1- a 6-18 record and not even qualifying for the confrence tournament. Knowing that the team would take a long time to be compettive and hungry to win, coach Reed returned to his home state and to Evansville,Indiana where he was presented as the new coach of the Purple Aces with mixed reactions and mixed expectations.
Year 3- This year coach Reed is out to prove that his last year at Nicholls St. was a fluke and that winning will be the norm for him and Evansville.
