Keydets Hand on For Hard Fought Victory

It was a see-saw battle from start to finish. However in the end, the VMI Keydets were able to outlast the Navy Midshipmen and pick up the 48-45 victory on the road in the head coaching debut of Mark Hendrix.

'I'm really impressed with these guys' Coach Hendrix said, 'They showed what happened when you never quit'.

Dana Cleveland lead the way for VMI with 12 points and 6 rebounds, including a key offencive board which kille about three extra seconds off the clock to seal the game for VMI. Landon Hughes also chipped in 8 assists in the victory.

'We love to spread the ball around,' Hughes said, 'We definately have a pass first, shoot second mentality this season and so far it looks like it's helped us'.

Indeed, the "pass first, shoot second" mentality worked to a charm this game as the Keydets were able to rack up a total of 21 assists compared to 12 for Navy.

Another area were VMI dominated was in the turnover battle. They never turned the ball over once during tonight's game compared to ten giveaways by Navy, including several during key times late in the second half.

'Pressure causes turnovers, and we had pressure on them the entire night,' Head Coach Mark Hendrix said.

VMI Get Humiliated In Home Opener

VMI welcomed Old Dominion to Lexington for their home opener. What followed was a complete and total beat down from the opening tip to the final buzzer. As the Monarchs totaly dominated the Keydets by a score of 96-57.

'We just didn't show any heart out there tonight,' VMI Head Coach Mark Hendrix commented angrily after the game.

Sophmore Forward Arturo Hacker lead the way for Old Dominion. Picking up 20 points to go along with 8 rebounds.

'He controled the low block and we just couldn't stop him.' Hendrix said.

Three other Monarchs scored in double figures, including two with 19 points each.

Old Dominion shot a blistering 57 per cent from the field tonight and 62 per cent from 22 feet out.

'We game planned all week for their three point attack and yet we did nothing to stop it.' Martk Hendrix said before storming into his locker room.

Todor Caskill lead the way for VMI with 12 points.

The Keydets next game could be even worse, as they will travel to Blacksburg to take on currently undefeated Virginia Tech.

Keydets Tame Tigers; Win by 15
The 1-2 VMI Keydets welcomed the Towson Tigers to Lexington. Most fans expected to see a tightly contested game. Those fans went home disappointed, as this game was a blow out from start to finish.
VMI started the game on a 16-2 run and never looked back.
'We played our butts off the whole night,'; Said VMI Head Coach Mark Hendrix, "I told these guys to never let up. It might make me look like a bad guy but I don't care what the critics have to say.'
VMI had four players in double figures, while Landon Hughes lead the way on the assists front with a game high 7.
VMI dominated in all categories of the game, but particularly from the free throw line. The Keydets knocked down 21-25(84%) of their free throws.
'We've really improved our free throw shooting,' Mark Hendrix commented.
The Keydets improved their record to 2-2 overal this season and picked up their first victory at home after gettting embarrased in their first two games by Old Dominion and Virginia Tech.

                            Looking good, man.

But whoa, how did Duke go from #5 to #12 if they had the same record?
