20 From Rios Make Coach Martin's Debut A Successful One

20 points from Sophmore Guard Kim Rios, including 4-6 from behind the three-point line, helped lift his University of Albany Great Danes to their first victory of the season. The victory was also the first in Division 1 for Dane Head Coach Andrew Martin.

"I'm just really proud of all the guys right now," An elated Coach Martin said following his victory, "They all played their tails off out there and they desered to win".

Albany started the game off on a 6-2 run and never looked back. The Danes never wound up being behind the entire ball game.

To some people in the Albany area it was a bit of a shock to watch their new, and for the most part unheard of, Head Coach pick up his first victory in his first ever game.

"I admit I was a bit skeptical when I heard we first signed this guy, angry even," One fan told reporters, "But now that I've seen the way our team played tonight in Bridgeport, I think this might be the start of something special."

Next up for the Great Danes will be a trip to play in Loudonville, New York to take on Sienna on Tuesday, the 23rd of November.

Rios Pours In 30 As Dane Win Second Straight.

Kim Rios continued his stellar play to begin the season, pouring in 30 points, including 4-6 from behind the three point arc as he led his team to a 68-57 victory on the road against Siena. Even though he's just a Sophmore he has earned high praise from his Head Coach, Andrew Martin.

"He's(Rios) the heart and soul of this ball club," Praised Head Coach Andrew Martin, "Even though he's just a Sophmore, he has shown the leadership qualities of a Senior."

Senior Guard Devonne Estrada also shouldered much of the scoring load, chipping in 19 points and had several key buckets in the second half.

" Devo needs to learn to just be Devo" Coach Martin said, "Sometimes on the court it looks like he is thinking too much, he just needs to relax and play his game, he's the boss out there".

The Great Danes will look to make it three consecutive victories to start the season as they will travel to Staten Island to take on Wagner College(0-1) on Saturday the 27th of November.

Rios's 32 Lead Second Half Comback For Danes

Kim Rios scored 32 points this evening, his second 30 points game in as many outings. What made this one different is that he got the majority of his points from the free throw line, not from behind the three point arc.

Rios went a very impressive 14-14 from the charity stripe which lead his team on a second half 28-6 run to pick up the 61-52 victory over Wagner.

"Kim has just exploded," Head Coach Andrew Martin said, "He's averaging 25(points per game) for the season after tonight and still averages 3.5 assists. He's a great all around player."

Rios The Hero As Danes Survive.

Kim Rios knocked down a mid-range fade away jumper with three tenths of a second to go in regulation to give his team a 55-53 victory over the Lehigh Moutain Hawks.

"He(Rios) playes like a senior out there." Head Coach Andrew Martin said. "He wants the ball in crunch time and we gave it to him."

Rios ,in all, had 27 points on the night and added 4 assists.

"I'm very pleased with my individual performance," Rios said, "But I am more happy that we were able to get the win."

The 4-0 start for Albany is better than any fan could have hoped for this season. Few fans came in with any expectations and now they've got their sights set on an NCAA tournament berth.

"I'd like for us to take it one game at a time," Martin said, "There's a lot of basketball left to play this season before we can even think about the big dance."

The Danes will play their next game next Monday in West Point as they take on the Army Black Knights.
