    RECRUITING UPDATE
6"6' small forward Jud Viegas has expressed an interested in signing with the Albany Great Danes. The High School Senior out of J.P. Ball High School in Burlington, VT has decent size but other than that has very little upside to him in terms of the college game.

"If we do wind up signing him, then there is a lot that we're going to have to work with him on" Head Coach Andrew Martin said.

Viegas's main weakness has been noted as his intellegence out on the court.

"Sometimes he just does the dumbest stuff out there, it's like he lacks desire or gives up" Viegas's Head Coach said.

Albany is currently leading the way in the race to sign the youngster, ahead of Colgate and New Hampshire. No scholarship has been offered as of yet from any of the three schools.

Danes Dominate Knights On The Road

The Great Danes of the University of Albany went in to West Point and proved that their bite was just as bad as their bark by defeating the Army Black Knights by a score of 62-39.

Leading the way for Albany was, of course, Kim Rios. Rios scored a game high 25 points and added an assist.

"Kim is the best player in the conference in my opinion" Head Coach Andrew Martin said, "He's one of the best kept secrets in the nation, I'd like to keep it that way until tournament time."

The Danes never trailed and were up by as many as 31 points at one point during the second half. A big factor in Army's inability to score was their lack of free throw shooting. Army went a just atrocious 3-18 from the free throw line during the game and didn't hit a free throw until ther was under 4 minutes to play in the second half.

"For once it's other teams having free throw problems instead of us," Martin said, "We've been getting better with each passing game, but what I saw tonight from Army was just garbage. I think an elementry school team could shoot better from the line."

There was no comment from Army's head coach Tommy Armstrong.

Danes Survive Scare To Pick Up OT Victory

Kim Rios managed to score 17 points even though he spent most of the game on the bench after getting into foul trouble and eventually fouling out to lead his team to a 72-57 overtime victory over the LIU Blackbirds.

Rios Scores 27 And Helps Albany Stay Undefeated

The America East Conference season kicked off in Hartford last night for the Albany Great Danes as they looked to stay undefeated overal on the young campaign. The Danes, helped by 27 points from star player Kim Rios, were able to ward off a strong challenge from their hosts and pick up the victory by a score of 61-54.

"Great teams find ways to win" Head Coach Andrew Martin, "We aren't great yet, but if people keep believing in us, and we continue to believe in ourselves, there's no tell what we can do."

Next week could see the end of the undefeated streak for Albany however as they will travel to both Syracuse and Villanova.

"They are two of the best teams in the country" Martin sai, "But that doesn't mean that we can't go into their gym and come away with a victory in either of those games. It'll be a test for us, no doubt, but I believe that we can come away with the victory"

Danes Pull Off The Upset In A Dogfight

Great all around play from everybody, including the bench helped lift the Great Danes of Albany to an upset 73-69 victory on the road against the 10th ranked and previously 5-0 Villanova Wildcats.

"Nobody believed in us," Head Coach Andrew Martin elatedly said following the game, "Nobody gave us a snowball's chance in hell of winning this game, but we came out here, played our game, and guess what? We came away with a big victory".

The Danes(8-0) had great play from forward Harry Swain who had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Guards Moises Laksa and Kim Rios both had stellar games. Laksa had 17 points, while Rios had 13 but added an astounding 11 assists.

"This is what can happen when we play as a team," Rios said, "If we pass the ball around and find open guys, we can win on the inside. We aren't just a perimeter team any more."

Albany will need a balanced offense as well as possibly some divine intervention for their next game as they will head to Syracuse to take on the Orange of the University of Syracuse.
