Rebuilding the Hopeless Lions.. Part II

    (NFL Head Coach 09)
    Claystones sliders
NOTE: I had to start over since it froze during a save try. Since we start at the beginning of the 2008 season, I am simming ahead as this makes my story line fit. So dont think I actually went 0-16 in the game, cuz that wont happen. Im just simming to the first offseason for the draft and my rebuilding proccess to begin. For that reason I will just be posting the rounds for the draft and not the exact pick number. I will be making a few trades during the 1st season that I am simming. Im going to try and get all the injuries I see happen listed, I may not get them all.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

After a disasterous 2008 season where Matt Millen was fired mid-season, and the team went a record breaking 0-16, Rod Marinelli was fired.

After public and national scrutiny, William Clay Ford Sr. gave sole ownership over to his son, William Clay Ford Jr. "I plan on changing this team from the ground up. Its no secret my father and I didnt see eye-to-eye on how this team should be run. He had no idea what he was doing all these years and was just to stubborn to admit it. My first action is to name Martin Mayhew as your new General Manager and Tom Lewand your new Team President. This year will be an evaluation year. The following off-season is when we will show our fans and the sports nation, I will do whatever it takes to get this team back on track and winning once again! I will now hand things over to your new General Manager, Martin Mayhew."

MM: "I will not be taking questions, as I know pretty much all of the questions you would be asking. 1.) I do believe we have a good young talented team. They just havn't been coached to win. 2.) This is a rebuilding team. This off-season, we will focus on both sides of our lines. That is where the truely great teams start to build their teams. From there on, we will focus on the defensive side of the ball. 3.) As for the quarterback position, we will not focus on that position right away. Dan and Daunte will be competing for the starting position this camp. We feel that they can succeed if we build the line to protect them. So we will not be drafting a quarterback, UNLESS one falls into our lap. ALSO, we want to change the losing culture of this team and the organization; Therefore, we will be making changes not only on the staff and the team. Stay tuned!!"

    Lions trying to change attitude!
The Detroit Lions have decided to make a drastic statement to try and rid themselves of the losing history. They changed their logo, their jerseys and tweeked the colors a bit.The move hopes to bring a new attitude to the team and organization, as it did for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos and more recently the Arizona Cardinals.

Jr.: "We needed a change. Hopefully we'll have the same success Tampa, Denver and Arizona had after their changes. I read an interview were Adrian Wilson(Safety of the Arizona Cardinals) stated that when Arizona changed their logo and uniforms, that the team felt the losing atmosphere was gone and a new team was born. That lion logo we had, Bubbles, looked like a d@mn animal cracker. It was terrible. It had to go. We decided to bring back the old Lions uniforms back. The uniforms from the days were we had Dick "Night Train" Lane rail-roading players on D. We hope the fans love the new/old look and realize, this brings in a new era for them and this franchise."

M.M: We have also named a new head coach. His name is Ken Plotzke. He was a LB/DB coach last season at the University of Michigan. He agreed with us on the direction the team needed to go in and the schemes that we wanted to run."

K.P: "I am a 4-3 defensive kind of guy. However, we will mix in some 3-4 as well. I am a advid blitzer. When we have the right pieces in place on D, our LBs will be running all over the field. Defense is my first priority in rebuilding this team. "

LIONS STEAL CUTLER AWAY FROM DENVER!!

The Detroit Lions have made two HUGE trades to boost their team this year. They have sent: Edwin Mulitalo, a4th round pick and a 6th round pick to the Seattle Seahawks for Julian Peterson. In the other trade, they sent: Two future 2nd round picks to the Denver Broncos for disgruntled quarterback Jay Cutler.

W.C. Ford Jr: "When we heard Julian was on the market, he jumped all over this. He lack the playmakers on this team and he is just that, a playmaker. He is good in coverage and he can get to the quarterback. He also brings much needed veteran leadership to this team."

K.P: "When McDaniels and Cutler had their dispute about them wanting to trade for Matt Cassell, we knew what we had to do. I have liked Jay since his days at Vanderbilt. He has a very strong arm and is accurate. He didnt want to spend the pick on a quarterback in the draft as we had more pressing needs, so we sent two future picks to get him, and he comes at a cheap price."

Cutler: "Im not going to talk about the past just on the future. Im really looking forward to playing here in Detroit. The new chang in ownership and management looks like they actually know what their doing and are taking this team in the right direction. We have a good young team. This new back we have in James looks liek he can be a true player in the league. Then we have the new kid at wideout named Bellows. He has looked like a true star in the making so far this camp. Then we come to the best part of this offense, Calvin johnson. He is just a beast. A great mixture of size, speed and everything else. He can blow past you with his speed; or if you think you have him covered, he can out jump you. Im really looking forward to this new start in my life."

In other news, the Lions have signed some new key pieces for this team:
          Jeremy Zuttah(RG) - 1yr/600K
          Julian Jenkins(RE) - 1yr/600K
          Kendall Langford(LE) - 1yr/2.2M

We went 0-4 in the pre-season.

Coach Ken Plotzke: "This was a very tough loss for our guys, they played their butss off and just came up short. We made too many mistakes to win. we fumbles the ball four times and gave up 5 sacks. We cant continue to do that if we want to win in this league. We also have to fix our rush defense. Giving up 200 yards to one player is unacceptable."

In other news, the Detroit Lions have signed rookie guard, Chris Warner to a one year deal worth 900K. Warner will serve as the teams back-up right guard.

                  Looks good.
It would be sweet if we could get rid of the 1st draft pick in a deal to get Culter. It costs too much for unproven talent.

Three future hall of famers have stated they will retire at seasons end. Jason taylor, Rodney Harrison and Jonathan Ogden have all stated that they will retire at seasons end. Taylor is a perrenial pro-bowl player. The game will miss his explosiveness and his mature attitude.

Rodney Harrison was a good safety. His better days were when he was a member of the New England Patriots during their super bowl years in early 2000s. He is one of the hardest hitters in the game todays when he has been healthy and thats the key word, health. Rodney has been plagued by injuries late in his career.

Jonathan Ogden was also a perrenial pro-bowler. He was a staple for the Baltimore Ravens on the left side on the offensive line. HHe is the old that every young left tackle wnts to be growing up. However; he has been plagued by injuried late in his career also.

We're happy to be bringing him back"

Looks like your weakest position is safety.
