    WEEK 6
Florida International 24, Appalachian State 51

    The Devon Moore Show

Florida International's defense will be having nightmares of Devon Moore for a while

    Devon Moore scores against FIU...again.

BOONE, NC -- The title says it all. HB Devon Moore stomped all over Florida International's defense, rushing for 148 yards and 3 scores in Appalachian's '09 conference opener.

"These guys won't be forgetting the name 'Devon Moore' anytime soon", said coach Jerry Moore as he walked off the sidelines toward the locker room, "hopefully the other Sun Belt teams will take note and tremble anytime he touches the ball the rest of this season".

Behind the Junior HB's stellar performance, the Mountaineers offense put up 513 total yards. After struggling on offense in the first three games of 2009, Appalachian State put up over 50 points for the second straight game.

They picked the perfect game to do so, as the first visiting prospect of the year, 3-star caliber TE Paul Bonner sat in the stands and watched the blowout. Bonner has Appalachian State listed as his #1 school and gave his visit to Boone an A- grade, though he has not committed yet.

    PLAYERS OF THE GAME
    FIU - Reggie Thompson, 243 all-purpose yards
Appalachian - Devon Moore, 11 carries, 148 yards, 3 TD

      WEEK 7
      Louisiana 9
      , Appalachian State 43

      Appalachian Takes Down Ragin' Cajuns

Louisiana's QB is sacked for a safety in the 4th quarter

BOONE, NC -- It seems the Mountaineers came into conference play with a full head of steam, as they crushed Louisiana-Lafayette 43-9 for their third straight blowout win.

"When you win 3 in a row like this, it makes you start questioning your sliders", said coach travis a.d., "but then again, the Sun Belt isn't exactly the toughest conference out there. We'll see how the rest of the year goes before I think about making any changes".

This time it was QB Armanti Edwards who took charge, completing 15 of 24 passes for 264 yards and 3 TDs. He also rushed for 112 yards and accounted for 2 rushing TDs. Edwards was awarded conference Player of the Week honors following his 5 TD performance.

Louisiana could never get anything going on offense, only managing 3 field goals throughout the course of this game. They are winless (0-3) in the Sun Belt this year. Appalachian State will ride their impressive 3-game winning streak on the road against winless (0-6) Middle Tennessee State next week.

      PLAYERS OF THE GAME
UL Lafayette - Undrea Sails (huh?) - 18 carries, 115 yards, TD
Appalachian - Armanti Edwards, 15-24, 264 yards, 112 rush yards, 5 total TD

        WEEK 8
Appalachian State 24, Middle Tennessee State 20

        Keeping the Streak Alive

Mountaineers win fourth straight, unbeaten in conference play

Devon Moore diving for the endzone. Hmmm, this seems famililar...

MURFREESBORO, TN -- The FBS newcomers Appalachian State simply can't be stopped. At least, not by anyone in the Sun Belt. The travis a.d.-led Mountaineers marched into Johnny 'Red' Floyd Stadium on October 24 and narrowly escaped with a 24-20 victory, their fourth straight and third in a row in the Sun Belt conference.

The game really wasn't as close as the final score indicates. Appalachian dominated both sides of the ball, forcing four turnovers and only letting Middle Tennessee State find the red zone once. If not for a very EA Sports-esque pick 6 in the 2nd quarter, caused by Armanti Edwards lobbing the ball up in the air as he was hit, this game likely would have been another blowout win.

"This was easily our sloppiest game of the year", coach travis a.d. began, "We fumbled the ball twice and threw 2 picks. But I guess that's why Middle Tennessee State hasn't won a game yet, because somehow we still held on despite our problems".

The lone bright spot on the day was yet another fine performance by Devon Moore, who rushed for 213 yards and found the endzone for all 3 of Appalachian State's touchdowns.

"If we can keep Devon healthy the rest of the season, then there is no reason we can't win the Sun Belt this year", coach continued.

Next week Appalachian heads to Denton to take on North Texas. The Mean Green (4-3, 3-1 Sun Belt) currently stand in 2nd place in the conference, right behind the surprising Mountaineers.

        PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Appalachian - Devon Moore, 23 carries, 213 yards, 3 TD
Middle Tennessee State - C. Robinson, 10 tackles, 1 tackle for loss

Appalachian State 38, North Texas 20

                Not So 'Mean' Green
Mountaineers continue to roll with 5th straight win, become bowl eligible

Blake Elder's 4th quarter TD catch was the final nail in the coffin for UNT

DENTON, TX -- travis a.d. was doused with Gatorade for the first time, following Appalachian State's 38-20 win over North Texas. For the first time since 1955, back when there was no division I-AA or FCS, the Mountaineers are eligible to play in a post season bowl game.

"This is incredible", a soaking wet and lime Gatorade-scented coach travis a.d. said, "to be headed to a bowl game in our first year in FBS is truely special. I don't think anyone thought we would have even come close this year".

Armanti Edwards led the way Saturday evening with a 342 all-purpose yard performance. The senior QB found the endzone twice through the air and once on the ground.

This game was no contest right from the get-go. The Mountaineers took an early 17-0 lead in the first quarter and were never even threatened by the "Mean" Green, who came into the game 2nd in the Sun Belt standings.

"At this rate, we may never lose another game", said travis a.d., almost certainly jinxing himself.

Appalachian State, currently sporting the nation's top rush defense, is slated to take on the Troy Trojans at home in Boone next week.

                PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Appalachian - Armanti Edwards, 16-30, 278 yards, 60 rush yards, 3 total TD
North Texas - Steve Warren, 20 tackles (WHAT?!), 1 tackle for loss

                  WEEK 10
                  Troy 38, Appalachian State 28

                  Crashing Back Down to Earth
Turnovers once again the culprit, 5-game winning streak snapped by Troy

Maybe the sun was in their eyes, but App. State could not hold on to the ball

BOONE, NC -- Appalachian State was brought back to reality when the Troy Trojans came to town on November 7. Thanks to a pair of 1st quarter INTs thrown by Armanti Edwards, the Mountaineers dug themselves into an early 14-0 hole that they never could quite climb out of.

Not only that, App. State had major trouble on 3rd down, converting only two 3rd downs all game long. Troy's defense was one of the best they had seen all year, allowing the Mountaineers a season-low 86 yars rushing.

"I guess I jinxed myself last week when I said we would never lose again", said travis a.d., "I need to learn to keep my big mouth shut if we want to come through with the conference title this year".

The Mountaineers were penalized 8 times for 80 yards, both season highs. Who says there aren't any penalities in EA football games?

Next week Appalachian takes their act on the road to take on the UL-Monroe Warhawks. After having their 5-game winning streak snapped, the Mountaineers will be licking their chops and hope to come away with yet another Sun Belt conference win.

                  PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Troy - Bryant McKissic, 10 tackles
Appalachian - Anthony Williams, 6 tackles, 4 TFL, 3 sacks

                    WEEK 11
                    Appalachian State 44, UL-Monroe 0

                    Now That's More Like It!
Mountaineers shut out UL-Monroe, all but clinch Sun Belt title

Ben Jorden catches one of Armanti Edwards' 4 TD passes on the day

BOONE, NC -- The Mountaineers flat out embarrassed Louisiana-Monroe on their home turf with a 44-0 win Saturday. Now all Appalachian State needs is a road win against Florida Atlantic in two weeks and they will clinch their first Sun Belt championship.

Armanti Edwards stole the show in Monroe as he threw for a season high 285 yards and 4 TDs. The always impressive dual-threat QB also ran for 61 yards and was once again awarded Sun Belt POTW for his fine performance.

He found Blake Elder from 14 yards out in the 1st quarter to put his team up 7-0. On the first snap of the 2nd quarter he found TE Ben Jorden in the corner of the end zone on 1st and goal and on the following drive, connected with Matt Cline for a 71 yard TD bomb.

Then in the 3rd quarter with the Mountaineers already up big, Edwards threw his final TD pass of the day to CoCo Hillary from 80 yards out, before being given a well deserved rest for the remainder of the game.

To make matters worse for the Warhawks, they could not even contain Appalachian's 2nd string players, as Cedric Baker plowed through a wall of defenders in the final minute of the game for a 49 yard TD scamper.

Appalachian State takes their final week off before the final stretch of the season next week, before heading down to Boca Raton for a crucial game against the Florida Atlantic Owls on November 28.

                    PLAYERS OF THE GAME
                    Appalachian - Armanti Edwards, 12-19, 285 yards, 4 TD, 61 rush yards
UL-Monroe - Troy Evans, 6 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, sack

Yeah, I've thought about posting more stats and I probably will for my upcoming games. I have just been too lazy to spend all that time typing up stats since the game came out because I never wanted to stop playing it

                              Recruiting Update

BOONE, NC -- Appalachian State has received it's first hard commit of the 2009 season.

At the conclusion of week 12, TE Paul Bonner officially committed to play football for the Mountaineers. Bonner, hailing from nearby Carrboro, NC, is a 3-star caliber prospect who excels in blocking.

The North Carolina native chose Appalachian after visiting campus in week 6 to watch the Mountaineers take down Florida International by a score of 51-24. Proximity to home and coach experience were the main factors in his decision.

What's more, is Appalachian State beat out some pretty major schools that were also recruiting Bonner. Schools that previously had their eye on Paul Bonner include powerhouses such as Georgia, Florida State, Tennessee, LSU, Florida, and Michigan.

                              Paul Bonner

                              Position: Tight End (#18)

                              Tendency: Blocking
Pitch: Coach Experience, Proximity to Home
