Defense Comes First: The Real Danny Zane [HC 09]

Last night's attempt at starting with the New Orleans Saints nearly made me return the game. I've decided to go a bit easier to start, until I figure everything out, then switch to a rebuilding project. So enter Danny Zane, for the second time, this time as the new Head Coach of the Baltimore Ravens. A team in transition. Struggling to find an offensive identity, and aging on defense.

From what I remember, the Ravens aren't any easier. Good luck though. But remember, you can't expect to win a lot of games especially when this is your first time playing the game

their defense is a lot better. I just dont want to see 55-49 games.

Ravens Go 0fer in the Preseason

If the preseason was any indication of things to come, the Ravens and their fans will be in for a long season. There were a few bright spots throughout the preseason, as the offense struggled to learn a new offense. Their point totals on offense increased weekly, while the play of rookie quarterback Joe Flacco steadily improved, but in no way did it impress. Coach Zane has named Troy Smith the starter against Cincinnati, but don't be surprised to see Flacco trot onto the field.

Lol you might not want to read my NFL Head Coach franchise then since I'm doing that draft right now.

                      First Quarter
Cincinnati looked great on their first drive until they reached the red zone, where the Ravens defense stepped up and forced a field goal attempt. 3-0 Bengals
The Raven offense would do nothing on their first drive, going three and out.
Baltimore would return the favor on the next Bengal drive.
                      Second Quarter
Baltimore would move the ball, but the drive would stall at the Bengal 39 and force a punt.
It wouldn't matter, as the Bengal offense was unable to move the ball at all and gave the Ravens great field position, starting at their own 47.
The Ravens would turn that into points, as Matt Stover would hit from 49 yards to tie the game 3-3 Tie
The Bengals would get the first touchdown of the game on the next drive as Carson Palmer found his tight end for six. 10-3 Bengals
And that would be the half.
                      Third Quarter
Chris McAlister would return the opening kickoff of the second half to the Cincy 49. 3 and Out.
                      Bengals 3 and Out.
Ravens were driving, but rookie Ray Rice coughed it up at the Bengal 24.
                      Fourth Quarter
Bengals nearly put this one away, but a great series of stops from the 1 held the Bengals to just a field goal 13-3 Bengals
And then they'd put it away after a Troy Smith interception. 20-3 Bengals
Or not, Yamon Figurs took the kickoff back 99 yards for the score. 20-10 Bengals

                      Major Stats
                      Troy Smith 11-26 124 Yards 1 Interception

                              First Quarter
Baltimore took the opening kickoff, trying to kickstart something. Joe Flacco and Willis McGahee got the start for the Ravens in place of Troy Smith and Ray Rice. Flacco looked solid, until he was nearly picked off in the end zone, but Matt Stover would make the drive count 3-0 Ravens

Baltimore pushes Houston back 4, and forces a three and out.
Baltimore would march right down the field, but stall and have to kick another field goal. 6-0 Ravens
                              Second Quarter

back and fourth the play would go in the second quarter, until Joe Flacco came out firing late in the quarter. Eventually it would be punched in by McGahee, and the Ravens would lead 13-0.

Matt Schaub would find Owen Daniels with under a minute remaining in the half to cut the lead to six. 13-7 Ravens
                              Third Quarter
Baltimore would force a quick three and out, the march methodically down the field. Coach Zane would elect to go for it on 4th and Goal from the one, and Ray Rice would just barely power it in. 20-7 Ravens
Houston would respond by going three and out.
                              Fourth Quarter
Baltimore would be so down on running backs Troy Smith would lineup in the backfield for three plays. Stover would extend the lead even further. 23-7 Ravens
Houston would make it interesting, scoring a TD to pull within 9. 23-14 Ravens
But Broadway Joe Flacco led another scoring drive to put it away 26-14 Ravens

                              Major Stats
