    Saving the JagZone (Madden 2010)

    GAME: Madden NFL 2010
    DIFFICULTY: All-Pro
    SLIDERS: None
MINUTES PER QUARTER: 12 Mins, 20 Secs Accelerated

PRE-SEASON: I actually play Pre-Season to determine who gets cut and who stays. I won't recap each Pre-Season game, instead, I'll recap the Pre-Season as a whole.
TRADES: Only used through Trade Block
PLAY CALL: I use "Ask Madden" and I pick from the three plays given for both offense and defense. Must use Offensive and Defensive Playbook of Coordinators.
HOT ROUTES: Used only on one player per play.

GAME PLAY: I sim all kickoffs and punts in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters so some can be returned for TDs by both myself and the computer. I return all kickoffs and punts in 4th quarter and Overtime. I sim all Extra Point attempts.

SEASON: I only keep the minimum required players on roster (2 QBs, 3 RBs, 1 FB, etc.) so that Pre-Season does have an impact of who I release. In terms of roster transactions, I never consider the overall ratings, just the current and past statistics of the players.

SCOUTING: No scouting. I also don't follow the predicted drafted round (IE. If Sam Bradford was predicted to go in the 6th round and I wanted him, I'd draft him in the 1st round to make it more realistic. If he dropped to, say the 6th round, I would not pick him up. The Draft's a crapshoot in real life anyways.

BACKGROUND: I simmed the first season, and I will be using this past season's statistics, not those that occured in Madden.

    History

    2009
After a dismal 8-8 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars had a few bright spots, as QB David Garrard and RB Maurice Jones-Drew made the Pro-Bowl. However, a lackluster effort on defense and a loss of identity on offense lead to a four game skid in the waning games of the season. For a team that - at one point - held their own destiny amidst the top of the Wild Card spot, the Jaguars will have much to prove in 2010.

          Season in Review

          February 7, 2010
          Jacksonville, FL

          (AP)
"And with the QB Kneel by Drew Brees, the New Orleans Saints are your 2010 Super Bowl Champions!"

Those uttered words in front of millions across the nation ended the 2009 NFL season. However, for the Jacksonville Jaguars, it is just the beginning of a new face lift. For a team that was 8-8 and fighting for a playoff spot, Jacksonville has a lot of work to do.

It has been stated time and time again that Coach Jack Del Rio will remain with the Jaguars for at least the 2010 season, meaning that his coaching staff will also be retained. However, the players of the Jacksonville Jaguars are not guaranteed such luxury.

While many teams will battle for High End free agents this off-season, the Jaguars will have to fight for its life - literally - as a spiraling economy is affecting ticket sales, and ultimately, the presence of a football team in Jacksonville.

The Jaguars were among the bottom teams in the NFL in ticket sales and attendance, blacking out their two pre-season games and seven of eight regular season games. They need to sell tickets this season... and fast.

On this day of love, the Jacksonville Jaguars play devil's advocate as they release their list of re-signed players for the upcoming 2010 Season. This list is quite short, as the Jags look for a fresh start of new faces in training camp.

              Jaguars win Tomlinson Sweepstakes!

              Welcome to Jacksonville LT2

              March 16, 2010
              Jacksonville, FL

              (AP)
LaDainian Tomlinson is officially a Jacksonville Jaguar. In an undisclosed two year deal LT2 agreed to terms to back up Maurice Jones-Drew. The Jaguars will benefit from this signing in two ways: First, economically this will definitely draw national attention and could possibly bring fans to the stadium. And second, they Jaguars will have a powerful 1-2 punch in the backfield, similar to their 2007 Playoff Campaign with Fred Taylor and MJD. Tomlinson is coming off a career low and injury ridden season of 223 carriers, 730 yards, and a 3.3 average.

Tomlinson is already coming in with a boat load of respect, as CB Derek Cox has agreed to let him wear #21 for the year. Cox will wear #37.

Additionally, the Jaguars inked a seven year deal with OL Eugene Amano who is expected to start at center for the offensive line.

                2010 NFL Draft Recap

Can this Christian Boy lead the Jags out of economic hell?

                April 24, 2010
                New York City, NY

                (AP)
...And with the 26th pick in the NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select Quarterback, Tim Tebow!

Possibly the most expected pick this year, the Jaguars selected hometown hero, Tim Tebow with their 26th pick in the NFL Draft. Tebow is as raw as sushi, but has all the intangibles to be quite the NFL prospect. His potential is unlimited. Unfortunately, so is the risk. He is the definition of a boom or bust player after four years in Urban Meyer's spread offense. But the 2007 Heisman winner is poised and ready to impress his already growing fan base in Jacksonville.

Said Tebow, "This is an honor. A complete honor and I'm very glad to call Jacksonville my home. It's a definite homecoming for me and I'm definitely ready to practice."

As for incumbent starting QB David Garrard, he will have to pack his bags as the Jags stayed busy this Draft weekend, unleashing him to the Minnesota Vikings in a trio of trades. Garrard is coming off a 15 TD, 10 INT season in which he passed for 3597 yards. He will be replacing the retired (for now) Brett Favre. The Jaguars received a second round pick (47 overall) in exchange for Garrard.

In an effort to provide an adequate back up plan for Tebow, the Jaguars also traded RB Rashad Jennings, WR Mike Thomas, and WR Jarrett Dillard to the Seattle Seahawks for QB Seneca Wallace and a fourth round pick (114 overall). All three were rookies last year for the Jags, but became available for trade after signing two receivers via free agency.

The third trade of the brings in a dynamic player who will also put fans in the stadium. Announced after the 2010 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars received RB/PR Reggie Bush from the 2010 Super Bowl Champions, the New Orleans Saints. Bush is slated to earn just under eight million in 2010, but has yet to live up to his expectations of an every down back. The Saints were able to trade him away after the success of RB Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell on their Championship run and will receive a 2nd and 5th round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. And who knows, maybe Kim Kardashian will have a few appearances in Jacksonville.

                    Roster Breakdown - Offense

The Offense Will Revolve Around Little Pocket Hercules

                    August 22, 2010
                    Jacksonville, FL

                    (AP)
Training Camps are just about over and now the Jaguars are set to enter the Pre-Season. The player to watch out for is none other than QB Tim Tebow, who was selected with the Jaguars first round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. This household name could potentially be their home town hero, but only time - and the NFL Pre-Season - will tell.

Here's a look at the 2010 Jacksonville Jaguars...

                    Quarterbacks
                    #02 Dennis Dixon
                    #04 Troy Smith
                    #05 Seneca Wallace
                    #15 Tim Tebow (R)
                    Grade: C-

The Jags don't have a clear cut starter yet, but have four players vying for that spot. Throw in rookie WR Zac Robinson as well because he will also be given a shot at QB this Pre-Season. Tim Tebow may not be ready to start, but Jacksonville could benefit from a "If you start him, fans will come" mentality. This Pre-Season will be very important for the signal callers.

                    Projected Starting QB: Seneca Wallace
                    In the Hunt: Tim Tebow
On the Bubble: Dennis Dixon, Troy Smith

                    Running Backs
                    #21 LaDainian Tomlinson
                    #23 Reggie Bush
                    #32 Maurice Jones-Drew
                    #33 Greg Jones
                    #34 Mike Hart
                    #39 BenJarvus Green-Ellis
                    Grade: A+

You can't ask for a more talented crop of running backs. The Jaguars boast very versatile running backs as MJD, LT2, Reggie Bush, and even Mike Hart are phenomenal in the passing game. BenJarvis Green-Ellis and Greg Jones are talented HB/FB tweeners, with experience in Special Teams as well.

                    Projected Starting HB: Maurice Jones-Drew
                    Back-Up: LaDainian Tomlinson, Reggie Bush
                    Likely Cut: Mike Hart

                    Projected Starting FB: Greg Jones
                    In the Hunt: BenJarvus Green-Ellis

                    Wide Receivers
                    #11 Mike Sims-Walker
                    #12 Golden Tate (R)
                    #13 Devard Darling
                    #14 Isaiah Stanback
                    #17 Zac Robinson (R)
                    Grade: C

Outside of Mike Sims-Walker, Jacksonville has two journey men in Devard Darling and Isaiah Stanback as well as two rookies. Golden Tate had a very polished career at Notre Dame and Zac Robinson will try to change positions from QB to WR, but watch out for him this Pre-Season as he will take snaps from under center as well. Don't rule out the Jags lining Reggie Bush at receiver, either.

Projected Starting X-WR: Mike Sims Walker

                    Projected Starting Y-WR: Isaiah Stanback
In the Hunt: Golden Tate, Devard Darling
                    Likely Cut: Zac Robinson

                    Tight Ends
                    #83 Spencer Havner
                    #86 Zach Miller
                    #89 Marcedes Lewis
                    Grade: C

Zach Miller showed strides as a receiver last year and Marcedes Lewis is a blocking force. The acquisition of Spencer Havner should help them in Special Teams coverage.

                    Projected Starting TE: Marcedes Lewis
                    Back-Up: Zach Miller
                    On the Bubble: Spencer Havner

                    Offensive Line
                    #67 Vince Manuwai
                    #69 Ed Wang
                    #70 Nick Ekbatani (R)
                    #72 Chase Beeler (R)
                    #73 Eben Britton
                    #75 Eugene Monroe
                    #77 Uche Nwaneri
                    #78 Jordan Black
                    #79 Paul McQuistan
                    Grade: B

After starting two rookies last year, Eben Britton and Eugene Monroe have definitely benefited from the experience. They will anchor the corners of the offensive line and new center Eugene Amano will add to this dimension.

                    Projected Starting LT: Eugene Monroe
                    Back-Up: Ed Wang

                    Projected Starting LG: Vince Manuwai
                    Back-Up: Chase Beeler

                    Projected Starting C: Eugene Amano
                    Back-Up: Nick Ekbatani

                    Projected Starting RG: Uche Nwaneri
                    Back-Up: Paul McQuistan

                    Projected Starting RT: Eben Britton
                    Back-Up: Jordan Black

                          Roster Breakdown - Defense

The Jaguars will need to find their identity this Pre-Season

                          August 22, 2010
                          Jacksonville, FL

                          (AP)
The Jaguars experimented with a 3-4 defense last year, but ultimately ended with their 4-3 base. This season they will need to find out what defense will suit them best and stick with it. They have lots of young talent and drafted LB Rolando McClain and SS Myron Rolle to add to their arsenal of weapons. Now they just need to fit the puzzle pieces together.

                          Defensive Line
                          #54 Quentin Groves
                          #90 Greg Hardy (R)
                          #91 Derrick Harvey
                          #92 Rob Meier
                          #93 Jeff Owens (R)
                          #96 Terrance Knighton
                          #98 John Henderson
                          Grade: C+

The defensive line was once the Jaguars' trademark of tenacity, however, they now look to adjust their line with a face lift. With no player having more than three sacks last year, the Jags went after DT Jeff Owens, and DE/OLB Greg Hardy and Sergio Kindle in the draft to address the pass rush. But don't be surprised if they dive into free agency too.

                          Projected Starting LDE: Derrick Harvey
                          Back-Up: Rob Meier

                          Projected Starting LDT: Terrance Knighton

                          Projected Starting RDT: John Henderson
                          Back-Up: Jeff Owens

                          Projected Starting RDE: Quentin Groves
                          In the Hunt: Greg Hardy

                          Linebackers
                          #51 Clint Ingram
                          #52 Daryl Smith
                          #55 Rolando McClain (R)
                          #56 Justin Durant
                          #57 Sergio Kindle (R)
                          #59 Brandon Siler
                          Grade: B

The Linebackers are very young, talented, and hungry for the Jaguars. The addition of Rolando McClain and Sergio Kindle to the veteran leadership of Daryl Smith, Justin Durant, and Clint Ingram adds to the power of this position. Look out for Ingram though, as he was signed with the Franchise Tag and may be on the trading block.

                          Projected Starting LOLB: Daryl Smith
                          Back-Up: Brandon Siler

                          Projected Starting ILB: Justin Durant

                          Projected Starting ROLB: Clint Ingram
In the Hunt: Rolando McClain, Sergio Kindle

                          Cornerbacks

                          #21 Derek Cox
                          #27 Rashean Mathis
                          #31 Scott Starks
                          #47 Karl Paymah
                          Grade: C

Rashean Mathis leads a group of cornerbacks who need to work on coverage skills. Mathis, coming off an injury plagued season, worked well opposite Derek Cox, but in a conference with Pro Bowl QBs, Peyton Manning, Matt Schaub, and even Vince Young, the Jags need to step their game up. Look for Reggie Nelson to get some reps at nickel back, as he was absolutely horrid in pass coverage at safety.

                          Projected Starting LCB: Rashean Mathis
                          Back-Up: Reggie Nelson

                          Projected Starting RCB: Derek Cox
On the Bubble: Scott Starks, Karl Paymah

                          Defensive Backs

                          #24 Myron Rolle (R)
                          #25 Reggie Nelson
                          #29 Hamza Abdullah
                          #38 Husain Abdullah
                          #42 Gerald Alexander
                          #43 Haruki Nakamura
                          Grade: D

Possibly the worst part of the Jag's D, the defensive backs were heavily focused on during the off-season with the signings of Hamza Abdullah, Husain Abdullah, and Haruki Nakamura as well as the drafting of Myron Rolle. Both safety spots are up for grabs and Reggie Nelson may be moved to cornerback.

                          Projected Starting FS: Haruki Nakamura
In the Hunt: Husain Abdullah, Reggie Nelson

                          Projected Starting SS: Gerald Alexander
                          In the Hunt: Myron Rolle
                          On the Bubble: Hamza Abdullah
