Bryant guarantees Bills victory, will not start Sunday
          __________________________________________________

          Associated Press

          Bryant

BUFFALO, NY -- Following Tuesday's practice, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Antonio Bryant spoke with the media. From in front of his locker, Bryant guaranteed a Buffalo victory with the following statement: "We're going to win, just like week 15. They ain't ready." When Jets head coach Rex Ryan was told about Bryant's comment, he simply laughed and prompted reporters for their next question. Buffalo officials were not pleased with his actions, coach Dick Lebeau declared, "that's not how we do business around here."

As punishment, Bryant is expected to be benched for the first quarter of Sunday's game, making it the first game he hasn't started all season. Rookie receiver Jordunn Williams is expected to start in his place. This shouldn't have much impact on Sunday's game, as Bryant hasn't been a very big contributor on offense this season, but it just adds a little more spice to the conference championship game between division rivals.

          Bills notes
Linebacker Paul Posluszny, who left the game against the Colts with an injured back, was diagnosed with a herniated disk. Buffalo anticipates that he will miss the remainder of the playoffs, although there is an outside chance that he recovers in time for the Super Bowl should the Bills make it that far.

            AFC Championship Game Preview

Buffalo Bills (11-5) @ New York Jets (11-5)

            Forecast: 24°

            Sunday, January 22, 2012 1:00PM
            Jets Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ

            Injury Report
            Buffalo Bills:
[OUT] WR Roscoe Parrish - Abdominal Tear - 2 weeks
[OUT] LB Paul Posluszny - Herniated Disk - 3 to 4 weeks
[OUT] LB Thomas Howard - Torn Tricep - Out for season

            New York Jets:
[OUT] DE Sydney Robinson - Herniated Disk - Out for season
[OUT] LB David Harris - Compound Fracture - Out for season
[OUT] RT Damien Woody - Herniated Disk - Out for season
[OUT] RG Brandon Moore - Fractured Hip - Out for season
[OUT] C Jon Cooper - Partial ACL Tear - Out for season

            Key Factors
Weather - These two teams played in difficult weather in their first two match-ups of the season. This game, however, poses the toughest weather yet as heavy snow is expected in 15 degree temperatures. It will be interesting to see how this impacts each team's aerial attack.
Ground Game - In their last meeting in week 15, the performance of the running backs Shonn Greene and Fred Jackson played an integral role in the outcome of the game. Expect it to play an even bigger role with such extreme weather conditions expected on Sunday.
Turnovers - So far in both games these two have played against each other so far this season, the team that forced the most turnovers came away with the victory. Both teams need to avoid making detrimental mistakes at all costs because the defenses will be going all out to create turnovers.

            Players to Watch

            Gary Guyton
            Linebacker

            Forecast
Getting the start because of the injury to Paul Posluszny, Guyton has been a playmaker on defense all season despite only playing in certain formations. He has used his speed to his advantage when blitzing as well as in pursuit. We expect him to play a key role in pressuring Mark Sanchez and keeping Shonn Greene at bay.

            Ladanian Tomlinson
            Halfback

            Forecast
Make no mistake, Shonn Greene will get the bulk of the carries, but the veteran Tomlinson will be a key part of the gameplan. Don't be surprised if he makes some big plays in the wildcat like the previous games between these two. He's also still a viable weapon in the passing game as well, especially if Sanchez is under pressure.

            Coverage:

            Analyst Picks:

            Dan Marino

This Buffalo team just keeps finding a way to win games, whether it's forcing turnovers, holding their opponent to field goals, coming back from behind, winning in overtime. They seem to have the magic right now, I say they keep it going.

            Boomer Esiason

This is the kind of playoff scenario you live for, division rivals who split the season series playing for the right to go to the Super Bowl. You just know this game's going to go down to the wire. I hate to use that experience card again, after what happened to Indianapolis, but I just think in a game like this and these difficult weather conditions, experience might give the Jets the edge in this even match-up.

            Bill Cowher

After sticking by the Bills this far, I can't abandon them now. Everything seems to be going in their favor when it matters the most. I think this will be their most difficult game to win of these playoffs so far. Indianapolis is great, but this Jets defense is incredible.

            Shannon Sharpe

The Bills will be legit Super Bowl contenders... next year. I still don't think they're ready just yet. Jets-Niners or Jets-Falcons should make for a great Super Bowl.

            James Brown

Why not go for the underdogs at this point. They beat the favorites to represent the AFC last week despite being arguably outplayed. They've been coming up big when it matters, let's see if they can do it again.

              NFC Championship Game Preview

              San Francisco 49ers (11-5) @ Atlanta Falcons (12-4)

              Forecast: 61°

              Sunday, January 22, 2012 4:15PM
              Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA

              Injury Report
              San Francisco 49ers:
[Doubtful] C Eric Heitmann - Dislocated Hip
[OUT] WR Lakieth Mark - Torn Bicep - Out for season

              Atlanta Falcons:
[OUT] FS Thomas Decoud - Torn Hamstring - 2 weeks

              Players to Watch

              Vernon Davis
              Tight End

              Forecast
Davis may seem like an obvious choice for player to watch, but with how the Atlanta defense shut down Green Bay's number 1 receiver (Jennings), things don't look promising for Michael Crabtree. Vernon could very well see a bulk of the throws from Alex Smith in this one.

              Sean Weatherspoon
              Linebacker

              Forecast
When discussing Atlanta's linebackers, most of the attention is devoted to Mike Peterson and Curtis Lofton. Witherspoon's production often flies under the radar in comparison, but he tallied 91 tackles this season and tied for the team lead in sacks. Expect him to play a key role in stopping Frank Gore.

              Matchup of the Game

              Michael Turner vs Patrick Willis
One of the best halfbacks in the league squares off against one of the best linebackers in what is sure to be an entertaining battle.

              Coverage:

              Analyst Picks:

              Terry Bradshaw

Matt Ryan is on the verge of becoming an elite NFL quarterback, Alex Smith still has a ways to go. I think Ryan comes out and makes a strong case for himself and leads the Falcons to the Super Bowl.

              Howie Long

Both of these teams are just so talented, but I think what it comes down to is the ability of certain individuals to just take control of the ballgame. If Turner, Ryan, and White get going for Atlanta, San Francisco's in for a long day.

              Jimmy Johnson

No team in the playoffs seems to be gelling as well as these Falcons right now. Everybody is stepping up and contributing, Earl Bennett even had a big performance last week. This is going to be a great game, but I see Atlanta coming out on top in the end.

              Michael Strahan

I like this San Francisco defense, Patrick Willis is one of the best players in the league and Taylor Mays is looking like a bright young star. I think the Atlanta offense just has too many weapons though, and a talented defense of their own.

              Curt Menefee

I have to agree with you guys. Looks like the Falcons are the unanimous favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, at least in the Fox studios.

                    One for the Ages
New York defeats Buffalo in overtime to earn a trip to Indianapolis

Leigh Tiffin knocks a 38-yard field goal through the uprights in overtime to send the Jets to the Super Bowl

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -- It had all the makings of an AFC title game that would be replayed on ESPN Classic for years to come. Divisional rivals who split the season series squared off in a battle between the NFL's Cinderella story and the AFC Goliath in the heavy snow to determine who was destined to play in Super Bowl XLVI and who would be watching it from the comfort of their own living room. Did the game live up to these lofty expectations? Absolutely.

The entire game was a perfect display of smash-mouth defensive football, as each team only scored one touchdown and struggled to manifest much more than a 3-and-out with each possession. The Buffalo defense got out to a strong start, holding the Jets offense to a measly 1 yard in the first quarter.

Shonn Greene had a productive day on the ground, rushing for 144 yards.
Late in the second quarter, however, the Jets got on the board on the heels of a LaDanian Tomlinson touchdown to take a 7-3 lead. Inside the two-minute warning, a promising drive by the Bills stalled out at the 14-yard line, and resulted in a 31-yard Mason Crosby field goal to set up a halftime score of 7-6.

The third quarter saw little more than stingy defense and a handful of field goals to bring the score to 13-9 at the start of the fourth quarter. Early in the fourth, the Buffalo offense finally got a spark and was able to develop a scoring drive. A screen pass to Lee Evans, with flawless blocking on behalf of Khamari Dansby and Brandon Keith, resulted in an 18-yard touchdown and a 16-13 Buffalo lead, their first advantage of the game.

The stalwart defensive play would continue, 8 minutes of the quarter were scoreless until a Leigh Tiffin field goal attempt from 40 yards out split the uprights with just under four minutes remaining in regulation.

Mason Crosby misses a field goal wide left at the end of regulation.
With the score tied at 16, the Bills found themselves able to drive down the field after a big gain by Jordunn Williams, and set themselves up for a potentially game-winning field goal attempt for Crosby at 0:03. Unfortunately, the 47-yard boot would miss just to the left of the uprights, sending the game into overtime.

Buffalo started out with the ball, but partially due to an untimely holding penalty called on Vondray Neal, they failed to materialize a drive. The Jets experienced the same woes, and the Bills regained possession at their own 14 after a Williams fair catch. In another disappointing twist of fate, a pressured Matt Leinart attempted to hit an open Lee Evans, but the threw missed the target by a wide margin and instead sailed into the open arms of Jets safety Jim Leonhard, who was then brought down at the Buffalo 25-yard line. After a 3-yard Greene run was able to center the placement of the football, the young Tiffin was called on to attempt another clutch field goal, this one for 38 yards. The Bills called a timeout in an attempt to ice the kicker, but it was in vain as the kick traveled through the uprights, granting the Jets a trip to Super Bowl XLVI. The win didn't come without collateral damage for New York however, as Braylon Edwards left the game in the third quarter with a fractured toe. He will not be able to play in the Super Bowl in three weeks.

                    Telford's Take:
This is such a tough way to end this fantastic season. To get this far after one off-season of building the team though indicates that we are on the right track and should be contenders for a while, since we have found a good young core of players. Congratulations to the Jets and good luck in the Super Bowl. We'll be back next year.

I think it's a conspiracy! The NFL just didn't want the low TV ratings from a Super Bowl featuring Atlanta and Buffalo... they totally jobbed you to get a New York team in the game!
