The Monsters Of Midway (Madden 10)
I'm going to start with real write-ups and such next post, just explaining the legistics of it all and exactly what I am doing. I did a fantasy draft, but simulated the entire thing, so in essence I randomized the NFL, with myself being the Bears. I play on my own sliders (closest to All Madden) and 10 minutes quarters with 20 second run-off. When I first saw the team I had, right away I knew no starting spot was secure so I am going to play and post all 4 preseason games.

Re: The Monsters Of Midway (Madden 10)
The Chicago Bears. The name takes on a lot of pride, and a ton of league respect. With the league shuffling, what else would it entail? The Bears made themselves clear that their values hadn't changed at all, by taking Patrick Willis as their star player and their starting middle linebacker. The rest of the draft headed the franchise with this team:
QB: Matthew Stafford (79), Jamarcus Russel (65), Tyler Thigpen (64)
Analysis: Well, although it looks like Stafford is the clear starter, I'm going to give Russel a chance in preseason, because realistically is not that talented of a quarterback. I don't like ratings all that much, so in my book every rookie quarterback needs to earn his role
RB: Felix Jones (82), Darren McFadden (77), Jason Wright (69)
Analysis: Another position battle here, but odds are neither back will win much more than the title of starter. The Bears are going to try to throw different looks at their opponents, to suprise, trick, and keep them on their toes.
FB: Ovie Mughelli (88)
WR: Jerricho Cotchery (85), Percy Harvin (82), Anthony Gonzalez (75), Jason Hill (69), Brad Smith (69)
Analysis: This is a very talented receiving core, and with good young talents with Gonzalez and Harvin. The Bears are expecting Percy to be their big play guy, and Jerricho to grab a lot of catches in short yardage situations. Brad Smith also has huge play potential if he can hold on to the ball.
TE: Ton Scheffler (78), Sean Ryan (74), Joel Dressen (70)
Analysis: This could be considered a position battle, but Scheffler really fits what the Bears need out of their tight end, a speedy receiving option. Ryan would really need to impress the coaches to earn himself signifigant playing time over Scheffler.
LT: William Beatty (75)
LG: Shawn Murphy (75)
C: Shaun O'Hara (91)
RG: Leonard Davis (90)
RT: Michael Oher (87)
Analysis: We didn't get any left offensive lineman in the draft, so it took some shuffling to get this offensive line to where they ended up. A strong right side is nice, but the left is really lacking and the Bears may look to improve it.
LE: Aaron Smith (91)
RE: Lawrence Jackson (79), Josh Thomas (71)
DT: Tony Brown (81), Chris Hoke (74), Rob Meier (69)
Analysis: Stopping the run could be an issue if we're not bringing the linebackers. Lacking a real hole filler at defensive tackle hurts, but hopefully this crew, who is not all that bad, is able to pull it together and get some run stopping and pressure on the quarterback.
LOLB: Tully Banta-Cain (79)
MLB: Patrick Willis (99)
ROLB: Terrell Sugs (90)
Analysis: Definitely the staple of our team. This group has the speed to cover anybody they would be covering, while also having the speed to get to the QB, and the strength to hit hard and break up runs. This line is going to reak havoc for the Bears this year.
CB: Cortland Finnegan (93), Ken Lucas (77), Brent Grimes (75)
Analysis: Their is another competition for a position, and this time its the weak side cornerback. Lucas and Grimes are both relatively unknowns, so past experience is a non-factor. Lucas is faster and a lot stronger, but Grimes plays the position with more ability of coverage.
FS: Dashon Goldson (74), Dwight Smith (73)
SS: Chinedum Ndukwe (79)
Analysis: Definitely a weakness for the Bears. Dashon and Dwight will battle it out this preseason for a starting spot, but they are relatively the same player, so its going to be a very good contest.
K: Shane Lechler (80)
P: Shane Lechler (98)
Analysis: He is better at both, so Shane will be the all-purpose kicker/punter. The very least of the Bears concerns, as they trust Lechler tobe able to put the ball in the twenty often, and through the goal posts just as often. -
Position Battles.
Well I did the entire preseason in the last three days, and I am just going to post the entire stats with an analysis for each, because I don't need to write up each game. We went 1-3, the teams are irrelevant because I haven't posted info about the teams yet.
JaMarcus Russell: 21/55, 441 yards, 4 TD's, 2 Interceptions
Matthew Stafford: 31/70, 392 yards, 2 TD's, 5 interceptions
Result: Wow. Matthew Stafford really struggled the first two games, and then I placed him second string so Russell would see time against the first string defenses and then he struggled, but less. Still, Russell has a very obvious accuracy problem that is going to come out at a bad point, and I know it, while Stafford just doesn't make throws perfectly very often. I really think I am going to regret this, but JaMarcus Russell won this.
Felix Jones: 153 yards, 41 attempt, TD (3.7 YPC)
Darren McFadden: 82 yards, 36 carries (2.2 YPC)
Result: This one wasn't hard at all. Felix Jones was able to always get the extra yard, has breakaway ability, and he didn't have a stellar preseason, but he won the job easily.
Dwight Smith: 11 tackles
Dashon Goldston: 10 tackles, 1 TFL
Result: Neither Free Safety showed me anything, so Dashon Goldston wins the battle based on the one TFL and his overall.
Brent Grimes: 5 tackles, 1 pass deflection
Cortland Finnegan: 5 tackles, 7 pass deflections
Ken Lucas: 5 tackles, 2 pass deflections
Result: Two winners need to be picked and the obvious one is Cortland Finnegan who was lockdown for the extent of the preseason. Ken Lucas and Brent Grimes each were decent at best, but Ken Lucas positioned himself for more interception opportunities, and dropped them both.
The rest of the depth chart remains.Last edited by ch2k8; 09-19-2010, 03:51 PM.Comment

Re: The Monsters Of Midway (Madden 10)
Game One Preview
Packers @ Bears, Week 1
Key Matchups:
Antonio Gates vs. Patrick Willis: Willis has been told he will be covering Gates for the majority of this game, a far from easy task. Both have great speed for their position, and are considered the best of the best. Willis looks to use his quick feet and hard hitting ways to stop Gates from pulling out too many catches.
Advantage: Patrick Willis, Bears
Brandon Jacobs vs. Tacklers: Jacobs is all of a 6'4 264 pound monster that can unleashing his bruising power on almost any tackler in the NFL. That being said, its going to be a hard task for the Chicago tacklers to prevent him from getting the extra yard on every tackle. With Willis busy with Gates, I don't see Jacobs having a hard time pushing the pile often,
Advantage: Brandon Jacobs, Packers
Vince Wilfork vs. Steve Hutchinson: Both are two of the best players at their positions, and they face off for the first of two meetings this year. Not too many guys can match the strength of these two super humans, and based on size alone, Hutchinson has it in the bag. But don't discount Wilfork's athleticism. I am thinking this is going to be a deadlock but if I had to choose...
Advantage: Steve Hutchinson
Prediction: Quarterback tryouts during the regular season are dangerous, and the Bears will find that out the hard way, as Jacobs and Palmer teach them their lesson. 24-7 Packers.Comment

Re: The Monsters Of Midway (Madden 10)
Packers @ Bears, Week 1
1st Quarter: The Packers started out with the ball, and Brandon Jacobs ran twice for two first downs, scaring the Bears fans immediately. However, Palmer threw a pick on the next play, giving the Bears great field position to start their first drive. Chicago failed to get a first down however and kicked a field goal from 28 yards. (3-0). When the Packers got the ball back, they remembered what worked as Jacobs pounded through defenders for 60 yards on the drive in four carries, including a 30 yard touchdown. (3-7). The Bears punted away, leaving the Packers trapped on the 8 yard line. The Packers begin to drive, and the quarter ends.
2nd Quarter: Two hits to start the quarter on Carson Palmer end the Packers drive, as they punt it right back to Chicago. Jamarcus Russell sees a cutting Percy Harvin, but Harvin miss plays the ball, allowing Shawn Springs to step in front and pick it off. After a short drive, Palmer finds M. Rucker for a 16 yard TD connection. (3-14). Harvin returns the kick to 42 in an impressive return, and JaMarcus Russell feeds off the moment with a quick 30 yard pass to Scheffler, than another 27 to Harvin to put them at 1st and goal. A connection with Cotchery puts them on the goal line and Felix Jones pounds it in. (10-14). After a Green Bay punt, JaMarcus Russell's endzone try is picked off. Brandon Jacobs continues to break out as he breaks an 80 yard TD run on his first play. (21-10). Matt Stafford would enter the game. His first career throw is a pick as he gets hit on the throw. Once again, the Packers are able to score on the first play, a 40 yard TD throw to Mario Manningham (28-10). Bears run the half out.
3rd Quarter: Felix Jones finally breaks out, and finds a hole for a 42 yard rush after a five play drive, and gets the TD. (28-17). Calvin Johnson makes a one handed drive saving catch on third down, but the Bears recover to force a punt. Felix Jones gets a toss play for a monsterous gain, but a late clipping brings it back 25 yards. A delay of game brings them back 5 more, and they go from redzone to brink of field goal range, a rookie mistake by Stafford. Receiver Hill drops a pass in the endzone, then Stafford misses an open man, leaving a 3rd & 15. An 8 yard throw makes it a 41 yard field goal, which Lechler legs out. (20-28). The quarter ends with the Packers setting up to punt after Jacobs is shut down, as he was throughout the quarter.
4th quarter: Back to back penalities for the Bears leaves them with 1st and 24 after driving their way to the 30. On 3 & 10, Stafford's pass to Jones is called out of bounds and they settle for the field goal, from 47 yards, which Lechler falls short on. After a redzone stop, the Packers 5 minutes drive ends in a 20 yard field goal. (20-31). Suprisingly Stafford converts a 4th and 13, but it was too little too late. Vince Wilfork scoops a pick after Stafford is clobbered, and the game ends with a kneel.
Final Result: Packers 31, Bears 20
