Vanderbilt Replaced - Replacement loses Coach!

Jackson, MS (AP) - In what was a shocking announcement to the Commodores of Vanderbilt, comes as bad news to the team on the other end of the bargain. Vanderbilt was informed last week that they was going down to the FCS and would be replaced in the SEC. However, the team that is replacing Vanderbilt has lost their coach just earlier this week. The Millsaps Majors are hunting for a new head coach before the 2010 season. Offensive Coordinator, Aaron Pelch, has been named the interim coach until a head coach can be found.

Athletic Director, Tim Wise released a Press release this morning:

"Coach DuBose didn't give this team enough time to prepare for what he had in store. He called my office and left a message saying that he was heading to the University of Southern California to be Coach Kiffin's assistant. When I went to his office after getting the message, it had been cleaned out and he was gone."

USC refused to comment and Coach DuBose was unavailable for commenting. The Majors are coming closer and closer to season start and without a head coach, could mean trouble early for the Majors.

    Millsaps Hires New Head Coach!

Jackson, MS (AP) - After much consideration the Millsaps Board of Directors in Athletics have decided to give Aaron Pelch the full head coaching job for the Majors. A new offensive coordinator has been found and has accepted the job. Gus Malzahn has left the Auburn Tigers to be Millsaps Majors offensive coordinator.

With Millsaps transfer to the FBS, NCAA has informed them that their overall record will only be referenced when talking about the Div II/III. They will start with a 0-0-0 overall record in the FBS. Coach Pelch has released the following statement:

"I'm very grateful that Millsaps University has allowed me to become the head coach of such a great program. With the addition of Gus Malzahn we hope to excel in our first year of FBS football. With both of our ideas combined we could make the best offensive package out there!"

Guz Malzahn also had a statement released about his hiring and the team:

"When I got the phone call from Mr. Wise, I didn't know what to expect. When I found out that I was being offered a job from a school that just entered FBS, I had to take it. I'm a Coach that is all about improving a team that needs improvement. Auburn was good before I got there, and now they're great. They'll be great without me, and it will be nice to play against them."

Millsaps starts their first FBS season off with a home game against Northwestern. This whole season will be a tough one as each team is bigger and better than a smaller Majors team.

        Millsaps Earns First Dynasty Victory

Jackson, MS: During a very emotional pre-season, Millsaps was preparing for the worst when they found out that Coach DuBose wouldn't be joining them in the move to the FBS. It seemed to let the kids down and it showed in their work ethic, but when Coach Aaron Pelch was awarded the job, the kids faith came back. They was happy that Pelch got the job because he was the Offensive Coordinator before DuBose left.

Then the season opener was their next concern. Northwestern was a much bigger team than Millsaps but Coach Pelch delivered an emotional pregame speech declaring that Millsaps isn't small anymore. The transcript of the speech is below.

"Majors!!! Today is the first step into the light. Everyone will be watching us to see how we perform in the FBS. Don't let anything get to you, we've been in situations where the spotlight was on us, however this spotlight is much larger than the one back in Division II and III. You're no longer boys, you're men. We're no longer small, we're big. It's time to go out and show how football is played no matter where you come from. MAJORS ON THREE!!!!! ONE...TWO...THREE...MAJORS!!!!!!!"

The speech would be a factor. In the first quarter, Millsaps would drive the ball down the field and kick a 29 yard field goal to take an early lead 3-0. The Wildcats of Northwestern would respond by driving the ball down the field and scoring on a QB sneak, taking the lead 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, we would see Northwestern kick a 20 yard field goal increasing their lead to 10-3. Millsaps was determined not to be whipped as they optioned the ball down the field and finally scored a touchdown on a Pinciotti 3 yard scamper, tying the game at 10-10. Then just before halftime, Northwestern pulled out a 28 yard field goal increasing their lead 13-10 at halftime.

The second half would bring a combined total of 49 points scored by both teams. Millsaps won the second half by scoring 14 points in the 3rd and then 21 points in the 4th quarter. Millsaps defeats Northwestern 45-27 to earn their first victory as a Collegiate Football Program in the FBS.

            First Time for Everything

Jackson, MS: Today was a day full of "firsts" for the Millsaps program. First Overtime game, first time getting a quarterback to throw for 400 yards, and first time defeating a top 25 ranked opponent. Many firsts tonight and what a game. Millsaps defeats #23 LSU 48-41 in double overtime.

In the final seconds of the game, Pinciotti gets intercepted in the endzone and the defender would run out of the endzone and tackled at the four yard line. The very next play, Richard Murphy would fumble on his carry and Millsaps would recover. Then two plays later with only 6 seconds to go, Pinciotti would throw at 15 yard dart to Olson to tie the game up. Russell would miss the PAT and it would go into overtime.

Millsaps won the coin toss and elected to go on defense first. LSU would strike with a four yard pass from Shepard to Randle. Then Millsaps strikes right back with Pinciotti hooking up with Gallagher for 28 yards and the touchdown. Going into the 2nd overtime, Millsaps would only have to run 4 plays and get the touchdown on a McLaurin three yard scamper. LSU's possession in the 2nd overtime and they have to score a touchdown to keep the game going. LSU would run four plays and all four would be shut down by Millsaps ending the game.

              Upset City!

ESPN: For the second straight week, College Football has been filled with upsets and surprises. Starting with the Majors of Millsaps, coming into an impossible match to win, they take LSU to the max. In fact, they take them to two overtimes and walk away with the 48-41 victory.

Then in Huntington, WV we had the Marshall Thundering Herd knock off their second straight ranked opponent by defeating #25 West Virginia 63-49.

Then going to Tuscaloosa, we saw the Nittany Lions upset the #1 team in the country. Actually if you look at the score, it doesn't look much like an upset, 56-28 Penn State knocks Alabama off their throne.

For a complete list of upsets, top 25, and the heisman watch then look below!

Re: A New Program: Millsaps Majors (NCAA 11)

                Heartbreaker

Oxford, MS: In what was the game of the week for the state of Mississippi, the Rebels of Ole Miss hosted in state opponent, Millsaps Majors. Houston Nutt told his team that they could not go easy on Millsaps as they had the Malzahn offense working for them. Good thing Nutt told his team this because the Majors played Ole Miss hard until the very last second.

Coach Pelch pumped his team up before the game telling them that of all the games they play this season, this is the biggest they will ever play. Millsaps showed the fire right off the bat as they drove the ball down the field and scored a field goal.

Millsaps would be in trouble though as they trailed 10-6 at the end of the first quarter. Then they would have a brief 23-20 lead at halftime. With the score of 36-34 in favor of the Majors, it seemed as though Ole Miss was going to lose it. On 4th and 13, Masoli connects with Grandy for the first down. There they would get a little more yardage and set up for the game winning field goal. It would go through and the Rebels escapes with the 37-36 victory over the Majors!!!
