Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)
Yeah but well worth it in the end I hope. I already took them from a 1* to a 2* with my 7 wins and bowl trip to the Holiday Bowl. Granted I got my butt kicked by Texas, but it was just good to get the Cougs back in a bowl game.
So far this year it's been injury filled and a roller coaster again, but I just got down playing the Utah game and things are looking up I think.
Week 8 against UCLA is huge. It's only my 2nd home game of the season and I have like 12 players visiting. I am currently sitting at #1 on 14-3* caliber players and 2nd on 6-3* caliber players. (I have a recruiting rule where I can only recruit 1* better then my school unless it is a created recruit by someone on the boards) If I can land 15-20 3* Caliber players my depth will be much better going into Year 3 and my 3 stud transfer players including RB D. Williams (Oregon) will be a huge lift for my Overall talent.Comment

Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)
WEEK 7
(2-2)VS (3-2)
GAME PREVIEW
Last year when these 2 teams met WSU was 5-5 looking for win #6 to get bowl elgible. Utah was 7-2 and ranked #24 in the Nation. The Cougars however had the "MO" on their side and pulled off the upset win at home 31-28 in the final 2 minutes.
Utah started out strong this year going 3-0, but lost Heisman QB J. Wynn in the lost to Washington (49-42) and fell 45-17 to UCLA, but the the return trip home, they will look to revenge last year's final minute loss. However they will have to do it without QB J. Wynn.
Wynn is gone for the season with a dislocated hip. He had completed 117/159 for 1715 yds 20 TD's and only 4 INT.
WSU gets SR QB Jeff Tuell back after missing the past 5 weeks since breaking 3 ribs in the win over Norte Dame. Tuell had completed 9/14 passes for 120 yds and 2 TD's before going down.
GAME RECAP
Utah would win the toss and elect to recieve?? The Utes would run 3 straight run plays and where forced to punt. WSU would get on the scoreboard 1st with a 17 yd TD pass from Tuell to Barton. Then a rare sighting as WSU Linebacker A. Burns picks off G. Robles and returns it 29 yds to help set up a 2 yd TD run by R. Mayfield as WSU takes a 14-0 lead after the 1st Quarter.
The Cougars would own the 2nd Quarter as well. Mayfield would run in his 2nd TD of the game (1yd out) and with less then a minute to play SS J. Mathews would go 90 yds on a fumble recovery scoring a TD to make it 28-0. Again the Cougar "D" would hold and Utah was forced to punt with 14 seconds to play in the half. Jeff Tuell would convience Coach Dodge to give him a chance to put the ball in the endzone and it almost worked as Gino Simone caught a 48 yd bomb but was tackled at the 2yd as time had expired.
Utah would finally show some life in the 3rd Quarter scoring 3 TD's including a 93 yd bomb from Robles to L. Mathews. Tuell would drive his team down the field under a minute though as he set up to throw his 2nd TD of the game, instead the ball was picked off in the endzone but a huge hit by TE S. Stormo forced the fumble and Stormo fell on the ball for the Defensive TD, to make it 35-21
The Cougar "D" would step up in the 4th forcing turnovers on 4th down 3 times and Coach Dodge would look to run out the clock not wanting to take any chances. With 40 seconds to play R. Parrish would add a 40 yd FG.
FINAL SCORE WSU-38 UTAH-21
KEY PLAYERS
QB J. Tuell 26/40 364 yds 1 TD 1 INT
RB R. Mayfield 17 carries 30 yds 2 TD

QB J. Robles-19/31 312 yds 2 TD 1 INT
RB B. Burton 10 carries 43 yds
WR L. Matthews-9 rec 189 yds 1 TD
POST GAME COMMENTS BY COACH DODGE
"This game was a huge win for us. I really thought the "D" played pretty well tonight. Creating 3 turnovers is a 1st for me in any game I have coached. Yeah we gave up 1 big play but Overall they did great holding them to just 93 yds on the ground. I thought Tuell played well in his 1st game back getting 300 yds. Mayfield is still struggling to be the #1 back and we will continue this week at practice looking at getting other players involved. WR I Barton continues to show he is a true playmaker, watching him take the WR sweep 43 yds was a play of beautiful. I am sure that once Tuell and him form a connection they could be unstoppable."

Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)
Yeah it was about time I finally created some turnovers. That INT was my 1st in like 9 games and the 2 fumbles=14 points. So that was huge as well.
I played the UCLA game last night. It was crazy. It now ranks as my #1 greatest game of all time with a score of 1880.Comment

Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)
WEEK 8
(3-2)VS (4-1)
GAME PREVIEW
Play just their 2nd home game of the season, this was a huge game for the Washington State Cougars, as they had 12 players on campus in attendance for today's game.
(Game note, I made a playbook change trying out Baylor's playbook and installed FR James Roland in the Pistol formation, with J. Tuell playing QB in all other formations.)
GAME RECAP
UCLA would jump out early taking a 10-0 lead in the 1st Quarter on a J. Franklin TD run.
WSU would answer back with a 34 yd TD pass from Tuell to Barton, and then later add a 33 yd FG by R. Parrish to tie the game (10-10) However the game wasn't tied for long as J. Franklin runs in his 2nd TD of the game (17-10) With 1:13 to play WSU would get the ball and open the drive with FR J. Roland lined up in the Pistol Formation. Roland would complete his 1st pass attempt, then scramble for a 12 yd gain, before throwing a INT. The Cougar "D" would step up though knocking down the Bruins pass attempt as time expired.
The 2nd half would be one for the record books as both team's showed big play ability. WSU would open the half with another Parrish FG to make it 17-13 Then it was the J. Franklin and I. Barton show. Franklin would score his 3rd TD (12 yd run) to make it 24-13, WSU answer back as Tuell hit I. Barton on a 89 yd TD Bomb to make it 24-20 at the end of the 3rd.
The 4th Quarter continued to give us explosives plays as Franklin breaks through the Cougar "D" for a 83 yd TD run (his 4th) (31-20), WSU would answer back as Tuell hits I. Barton on a 83 yd catch and run (his 3rd) to make it (31-27). With Franklin on the sideline getting a breather it was former Oregon Duck Kajon Barner scoring from 2 yds out to make it (38-27). Less then a minute later it was Tuell to I. Barton again this time on a 80 yd connection (his 4th) to make it 38-34. After a huge Defensive stop, J. Tuell and Barton made school history as Tuell hit the SR WR on a 62 yd TD pass with 37 seconds to play putting WSU up 41-38. UCLA however wasn't done showing they to can score through the air, QB R. Brehaut hit R. Marvery on a 52 yd TD Bomb that took just 10 seconds off the clock to make it (45-41) with 27 seconds to play. With I. Barton drawing triple coverage, Tuell would find G. Simone down the sideline for a 49 yd gain, but 8 seconds to play, a FG would be no use, Tuell would take the snap and drop back and looking for some Barton "Magic" instead the ball would find the hands of a Bruin defender as UCLA pulled off the road win.
FINAL SCORE WSU-41 UCLA-45
KEY PLAYERS
QB J. Tuell 25/48 636 yds (New school record) 5 TD's 2 INT
WR I. Barton-13 rec 437 yds (New school recored) 5 TD's (tied school record)
WR. R. Jiles 5 rec 93 yds

RB J. Franklin 29 carries 211 yds 4 TD
RB K. Barner 14 carries 69 yds 1 TD
WR R. Marvey 5 rec 129 yds 1 TD
(This game now ranks as my #1 All-time with a score of 1880!!)
POST GAME COMMENTS BY COACH DODGE
"Even though I am very disappointed with the outcome of the game, I felt like we did some things very well, Obviously passing the ball especially big plays from Tuell to Barton. That was huge. I have never had a WR get 400+ yds in a game. For some reason no matter how many defenders he had on him he found ways to get open. I am really disappointed with the Run "D". You can't give up almost 300 yds on the ground and expect to win a game. UCLA got very luck when Barner decided to transfer. They now have 2 very talented backs and Brehaut played great not forcing bad passes
Even though we lost, I had several of the recruits come up to me after the game and tell me how much they enjoyed their visit and how they can't wait to be apart of the Cougar rebuilding. They can see we are heading in the right direction"

Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)
It's crazy I don't know why but for some reason he always seems to get seperation. I move him around alot. Sometimes I line up up on the outside and hit him on a fly route, other times I will run him on slants over the middle and he turns 10 yd catches into 80 yd TD's other times. He does things my other WR can't seem to do yet isn't as fast as some of the others.Comment

WEEK 9
(3-3)VS #15
(5-2)
GAME PREVIEW
Coming off the disappoint loss to UCLA, Coach Dodge knew this was a must win not only for his team's morale but also for the fans and the incoming visit of 8 more recruits.
With their 28-21 loss to WSU last year fresh on their minds, Stanford is looking to get payback.
Noteable stats
PPG WSU-32.6 vs Stanford-27.0
WSU Rushing-435 yds Ranked #111, Stanford Rush Defense 586 yds Ranked #18
Tunover Ratio WSU-18 Ranked #118, Stanford +3 Ranked #38
GAME RECAP
With A. Luck gone to the NFL, Josh Nunes takes over at QB and gets the Cardinals on the scoreboard early with a 7 yd TD pass, however Tuell and Barton continued their hot connection as they hook up for another TD (9 yds) to make it 7-7
The Cougar "D" would hold the Cardinals to a FG, but then on the 1st possission, QB J. Tuell would get hit hard and be forced from the game. RS SO C. Halliday would come in to replace him, and continue to get I. Barton the ball including a 4yd TD pass to make it 14-10 at the half.
With Tuell still sitting out the 3rd Quarter, WSU would try and work their ground game as R. Mayfield scores on a 12 yd run. Stanford answers back with 10 points as well, as S. Taylor scores (12 yds) out and they hit a 34 yd FG to make it 28-20
Stanford would score another unanswered TD as S. Taylor continues to exploit the WSU run "D" running over defenders 42 yds for the score. The Cardinals would go for 2pt to try and tie the game, but L. Bland hits Nunes in the backfield before he can get off the pass (28-26) with 4 minutes to play. Jeff Tuell would renter the game looking to give his team a spark, but instead the drive would stall and WSU was forced to kick a 46 yd FG (31-26) Stanford again would stick to the ground and with 2:31 to play T. Gaffney would run in from 2yd out to give Stanford the lead. this time the 2pt was good putting the Cardinals up by a FG (34-31) Tuell still trying to shake off the cobwebs of sitting most of the game, throws a INT, but the Cougar "D" steps up forcing a punt with 1:13 to play. With I. Barton drawing triple coverage, J. Tuell finds SR G. Simone wide open down the sideline for a 87 bomb to put the Cougs up 38-34 with 54 seconds to play. Needing to score a TD, Stanford would go to the air and exploit the pass prevent D with short slants over the middle working the ball down field getting the ball to the 6 yd line with 1 timeout to play. The Cardinals would hand off to S. Taylor who was stopped after a 2 yd gain. The timeout was called. Again Stanford lined up in what looked like a run formation as they looked for play action. L. Bland however was ready and got past the lineman to make the sack, preventing the score as WSU pulls out the win getting their 2nd victory over a Top-25 opponent. (This game is now my #2 All-time greatest with a score of 1681. I thought I had some better games with BSU, but that's what it says)

POST GAME COMMENTS BY COACH DODGE
"I am very proud of how the team rallied and game together for the win. Jeff was battling through some back spasms, and Gino made a huge play there at the end. I was happy to see some other guy's step up on take some pressure off of Barton (TE S. Stormo 3 rec 51 yds, and RS FR AJ Brooks recorded his 1st catch as a Coug with a 63 yd catch and run). I can't say enough of L. Bland. He stepped up and made 2 huge plays when we need them, and the D-line came up with 3 more sacks as well, but Overall, our Run "D" is pitaful and we need to stop giving up 4th Down Conversions. Also this was the 2nd time we got burnt on a fake punt play, so we are going to need to do a better job on Special Teams as well. After the game I talked with several of the recruiting prospects and the excitement is really building here in Pullman. I think we have a chance to have a very good incoming class"Last edited by Deuce2223; 11-02-2010, 11:22 AM.Comment
