    Week 4

    #18 (3-0) @ (0-1)

    GAME PREVIEW

Cal started the year ranked #28 in the nation. Afte Week 1/2 Byes, the Bears moved into the Top-25 at #24, but a Week 3 loss to Nevada caused them to fall back out of the Top-25 before their matchup with WSU.

Cal hasn't had alot of success over the past 3 years against WSU or even the nation in that matter, as Coach Dodge has a perfect 3-0 record against them, however that hasn't stopped Coach Jeff Tedford from bring in talent.

WSU is off to their best start in school history at 3-0 with a huge win over #4 Oregon last week. RB Donte Williams however will miss his 3rd straight game, leaving us to believe that the Cougars will go to the air and go often, as they have the #1 Total Offense and #1 Passing Offense in the nation behing the play of QB C. Halliday and WR M. Wilson.

    GAME RECAP

JR Paul Smith would get the start at Tailback this week, but it was RS FR Ian Jefferson who would start things going rushing 28 yds to score the opening TD (his 4th of the year) to put WSU up 7-0.

Both teams would fail to move the ball until late in the 2nd Quarter, but again it was WSU who would get on the scoreboard 1st as C. Halliday hit's B. Ratliff on a 38 yd score (14-0), Cal would answer back though scoring on a 25 yd pass from D. Brown to T. Smith (14-7). WSU would get the ball back with 1:41 to play and with 18 seconds to play RB P. Smith would run in from 2yds out to give WSU the 21-7 lead going into the half.

The 3rd Quarter would belong to Cal and their star WR/KR T. Carter. Carter would score from 14 yds out and then after a C. Halliday INT, score on a 80 yd bomb to tie the game (21-21) WSU however would stick to the ground game as P. Smith dives in from 1 yd out to score his 2nd TD of the game making it (28-21) going into the 4th.

Turnovers would plague the Bears in the 4th, as they fumbled the ball 3 times (recovered 1 though) and Brown would throw his 2nd INT of the game, as the Cougars "D" would dominate. Halliday would find TE C. Jackson on a 16 yd TD score and R. Parrish would connect on a 33 yd FG as the Cougars picked up their 4th straight win!!!.

    FINAL SCORE WSU-38 CAL-21

    KEY PLAYERS

    WR/KR T. Carter-5 rec 185 yds 2 TD, 4 returns 88 yds
    WR T. Smith-3 rec 53 yds 1 TD

POST GAME COMMENTS BY COACH DODGE

"I am very happy with how we played today. Obviously it's hard to replace a RB like Donte Williams, but the combo of Smith/Jefferson played well enough to get us 100+ yds on the ground, which kept the ball out of Cal's hands. Halliday and Wilson continue to show they are a dynamic duo and the Defense is showing signs of huge growth."

        GAME PREVIEW

With a Bye next week, Coach Dodge decided to sit RB Donte Williams for a 4th straight game, announcing RS FR Ian Jefferson would start at Tailback.

Coach Dodge "Williams shoulder is still not 100%, and I feel that it would be best to give him 2 more weeks of rest so he will be 100% against USC in Week 7"

The Utah Utes started the year ranked #29 and moved into the Top-25 after a Week 2 win, but back to back loses including a OT loss to Navy has the Utes wondering just what kind of team they will be this year.

        GAME RECAP

Utah would open the game recieving the ball and on their 1st play, they did a WR reverse that Mo Lee took 52 yds causing the home crowd to go wild, but those roars were dulled quickly as CB A. Carpenter pick's off the next play in the endzone to stop the scoring drive. The 1st half turnovers wouldn't stop there as WSU's C. Halliday is picked off on the next play. However DE M. Owens comes up big deflecting a 3rd and 10 pass to force Utah to punt. This time Halliday would find his own WR as B. Ratliff catches pass's of 48 yds and 14 yds to score the 1st TD of the game (7-0) Utah looking to have lighting strike twice would try another WR sweep by Mo Lee, but this time the ball was fumbled as WSU gets their 2nd T.O. of the game. After a 3rd and 10 drop by Marquess Wilson, the Cougars were forced to kick the 45 yd FG to go up (10-0)

Utah would open the 2nd Quarter with 3 straight runs by RB C. Copp (47 yds) before QB J. Moore would hit T. Jenkins on a 19 yd TD strike (10-7)
Again WSU would look to go to the air, looking for a big play, but WR R. Jiles would have a 80 yd TD pass bounce out of his hands. After 3 straight completions RB Ian Jefferson would score his 5th TD of the year going 27 yds for the score to make it (17-7) with 2:21 to play. After forcing a 3 and out, C. Halliday would find his #1 WR M. Wilson on a 27 yd TD strike (24-7) Utah however wasn't ready to give up and would get in FG range with 31 seconds to play kicking a 39 yd to make it (24-10) at the half.

The Cougars "D" would continue to dominate the Utes in the 2nd half giving up only a 29 yd FG, well Halliday would hit R. Jiles on a 13 yd TD pass and R. Parrish would hit a 42 yd FG to give WSU the 34-13 vicotry.

POST GAME COMMENTS BY COACH DODGE

I don't think I again say it enough, I am very proud of this team. We are playing very well in all aspects of the game. I believe our Defense is probably 1 of the most underated in the nation. We don't have alot of big time players but they play well as a unit and have great Overall team speed. Halliday has struggled the past few games with INT's, but I believe that once we get Donte back opposing Defense's will have to respect the run more and they won't be playing as much Nickle and Dime packages against us.

Coach Dodge- Well I was very surprised to see both Wisconsin and Penn State lose back to back games. Obviously the Florida vs LSU game was huge. USC is playing very well of late, I am not going to lie though our entire team was cheering for Stanford in OT.

Ryne Dezaron- Coach congrats on your #7/#10 Ranking. It must be pretty exciting to be ranked in the Top-10. This is the highest of school history and with a matchup coming up against #4/#6 USC, you have a chance to make a huge statement in your quest for a National Title.

Coach Dodge- I am very excited. Thank you. Our team isn't thinking National Title. We are just taking it 1 game at a time. We all know that as soon as we think we are unbeatable, we will lose and those dreams will be gone.

Ryne Dezaron-Coach again congrats on your start. You and USC are tied for 1st Place in the Pac-10. You play them next week on the road, then have 4 straight at home against Oregon State,Stanford,Colorado and UCLA before finishing up on the road against Washington. With you win over Oregon, some say if you can beat USC you will be guarenteeed at least a Rose Bowl bid!!

Coach Dodge- Again Ryne, we are taking this just 1 game at a time if you start looking ahead, it will come back to bite you in the butt.

Ryne Dezaron-Last year we spotlight 14 different players across the nation in our Recruiting Spotlight. Tonight we are focusing on 5 Players Including #1 HB/#2 Overall Jake West, #3 HB/#5 Overall Jose "Speedy Gonzales, #2 QB/#12 Overall Bryan Leaf, #3 QB/#16 Overall Tyler Drake and #2 CB/#33 Overall Michael James.

          #1 HB/#2 Overall 5'11 230 lbs Jake West-Pikeville KY
Top 3 Schools #1 Ohio State,#2 Michigan #3 Virginia Tech.
          (All 3 are offering)

"West is the brother of current Ohio State QB Adam West. Well in high school the West brothers combined for 2 State titles (Jake's SO and JR) together and current Jake is leading the nation in rushing with 2000 yds well leading his team to a perfect 10-0 record well searching for a 4th straight State Championship.

RD-Coach Dodge what do you think of West?

CD-West is your protypical power back. The kid is a beast. Every coach in the nation would love to have a RB like him to hand the ball off too.
Obviously Ohio State has the inside track as Jake has expressed his desire to play with his brother Adam, but don't expect Coach Rodriguez to give up so easily at Michigan.

          #3 HB/#12 Overall 5'5 180 lbs Jose "Speedy Gonzales-Odessa TX
          Committed to Texas.

RD-Coach last year Texas landed the #1 HB in the nation in Deion White out of Bryan Texas, this year they go after Gonzales. How do you think these 2 players will coexist in Austin?

Coach Dodge-Well I think "Speedy" says it all. At 5'5, Jose won't be a every down back. I expect him and White to play well together giving the Longhorns one of the best RB combos in the nation.

          #2 QB/#12 Overall 6'3 196 lbs Bryan Leaf-Spokane WA
Top Schools-#1 Oregon, #2 Texas, #3 Ohio State, #4 LSU
(All 4 are offering as well as WSU)

RD-Coach I understand that Bryan is the nephew of former Cougar Ryan Leaf. He obviously had a very good career in Pullman. I assume you are going after him?

Coach Dodge-We are, so I can't really comment other to say right now we are struggling to even get in his Top-10.

          #3 QB/#16 6'5 227 lbs Tyler Drake-Tifton GA
          Top Schools-Florida,Alabama,Georgia,Auburn
          (Florida and Alabama are offering)

RD-Coach what can you tell us about Drake?

Coach Dodge-Tyler is a dual threat QB, who can make plays with both his feet and his arm. I think he would be a great fit in Florida. Think Tim Tebow, but with a better arm.

          #2 CB/#33 Overall 5'11 180 lbs Michael James-San Diego CA
          Top Schools-Oregon,LSU,WSU,Texas
          (All 4 are offering)

RD-Again Coach, I know you can't say much, with James on your target list but what can you tell us.

Coach Dodge-We are very excited that James has us in his Top-3. Obviously we still have a long way to go to pass Oregon and LSU plus hold off Texas, but if we can get James, he will be our 1st 5* player to come to WSU and the best CB we have seen since current Seattle Seahawk Marcus Trufant.

Last year we spotlight several Top-Prospects across the nation. Now it's our chance to see how they have faired so far in their Freshman year so far through Week 6.

              QB Kesley Charles-14/26 152 yds 1 TD 1 INT 26 carries-22 yds

WR Aaron Wheeler-16 rec 190 yds 2 TD

              WR C. Haas-6 rec 99 yds 1 TD

              QB J. Ross- 17/34 346 yds 1 TD 2 INT 10 carries 21 yds

              QB A. West-Hasn't played

              MLB L. Kyle-30 Tackles (8 solo) 7 TFL 1.5 Sacks

              QB D. McLaughlin-40/70 638 yds 5 TD 1 INT 23 carries 40 yds

              WR J. McLaughlin-34 rec 493 yds 4 TD's

              RB D. White-7 carries 38 yds (5.4 Avg)
              3 Kick Returns-59 yds, 3 Punt Returns-21 yds

TE AJ Hart-14 rec 286 yds 1 TD

              RB S. Mengal-4 carries 25 yds (6.2 Avg)
              4 Punt Returns-37 yds

              WR J. Green-28 rec 480 yds 1 TD

              TE TJ Deuce-47 rec 737 yds 11 TD's

RT Ian McLaughlin-12 Pancakes 2 Sack Given up

              SS J. Matthews-2 Tackles, .5 Sack 1 INT

Obviously. TJ Deuce is making the most impact so far, in fact he is currently #1 in the Race for the Heisman, but QB D. McLaughlin is playing well in reserve for PSU and looks to be a future star teaming up with his brother Jack, well their brother Ian is playing well at RT with 12 Pancakes already.

Green and McLaughlin are currently outplaying Wheeler and Haas, but neither are starters,so I expect a big jump in #'s next year when they move into the starting lineup. Ross and Charles are playing well in reserves as are both RB's White and Mengal. I can't wait to see what kind of #'s these guys put up their JR and SR years if they stick around.

Nice, my character's name mentioned with Tim Tebow. I can't wait to see what school he attends and what kind of numbers he puts up.

Good luck in the upcoming games.

                    GAME PREVIEW

With a Rose Bowl bid on the line and maybe even a outside chance at a National Title. The Stadium was packed for this National Televised game.

USC is lead by QB C. Woods, RB D. Morgan and WR K. Kelly.

WSU has QB C. Halliday, RB Donte Williams (Back from the past 4 games off), WR M. Wilson and DE M. Owens.

                    GAME RECAP

WSU would open the game kicking off to USC, forcing a punt before beig forced to kick a 38 yd FG, but the kick would sail wide left, giving the ball back to the Trojans. However once again the Cougar "D" would step up huge as ROLB C. Mizzell picks off Woods to take it 77 yds for the "Pick 6" to take a 7-0 lead.

USC would answer back in the 2nd Quarter with a 47 yd TD pass from Woods to WR K. Kelly (7-7) Afte carrying the ball 8 times for 32 yds Donte Williams ran out of gas at the 5yd line, and 2 plays later RS FR I. Jefferson scored his 6th TD of the season from 1yd out to make it (14-7) USC answered back as FB A. Beck plows in from 2 yds out (14-14)

However it was the final 3 minutes of the half, that would leave fans wondering just what happened. C. Halliday fires a TD pass to B. Ratliff, then L. Burton picks off C. Woods returning the ball 44 yds down to the 8yd line where D. Williams takes it in to make it 28-14 with 13 seconds to play. On the kickoff, USC would fumble, with CB M. Jones recovering to help set up a Holliday to M. Wilson TD as WSU takes the 35-14 lead into the half.

USC would shut down the Cougars in the 3rd forcing back to back punts and then it was C. Woods hitting FB A. Beck 22 yd for the score (his 2nd TD of the game) to make it 35-21 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.

WSU would open the 4th Quarter with a 11 yd TD pass from Holliday to M. Wilson to make it 42-21, but USC would answer back with a Woods-Kelly 30 yd TD pass to make it 42-28 with 5 minutes to play. On a 3rd and 12, C. Halliday would throw his 1st INT of the game, 10 seconds later USC would score on a 70 yd TD run by D. Morgan (42-35) Again WSU would look to run out the clock, but again the Trojans "D" was ready forcing a pass on 3rd and 8 and again Halliday was picked off with 1:56 to play USC would get the ball with a chance to tie the game. However M. Owens was ready recording 2 sacks forcing the 4th Down turnover, as WSU gets the ball back with 55 seconds to play. Again USC would step up stopping the Cougars cold and using their timeouts force a punt with 35 seconds to play. With no timeouts left USC would go to the air, but with 3 seconds to play M. Owens would record his 3rd Sack of the game sealing the victory as the Cougar faithfull went wild!!!!

                    POST GAME COMMENTS

"Obviously when you control the ball for 2/3 of the game you expect to win. Especially when you create 3 Take aways including a TD, however USC played a great game and had some huge plays putting up over 500 yds of Total Offense. So for that all I can say is I am so happy to get out of here with a win"

WSU IS NOW RANKED #7 IN THE COACHES POLL WITH THE WIN AND #3 IN THE MEDIA!!!! WITH OUR NEXT 4 GAMES AT HOME.

You are more than welcome. I hope it works for you, if not... I will gladly put something else together for you.

I thought having something neutral that isn't team specific gives you the flexibility to use it if Coach Dodge gets another offer.

To all who follow/read, I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy your day of stuffing your faces and watching Football.

I will be on the road tonight for 6 hours to go eat with my family and get to drive 6 hours home on Thursday so I can go back to work Friday, over mountain passes and frozen/snow covered roads. So for anyone out there like me, I will be praying for safe travels to all those on the roadways.

Because I work Friday-Monday, I won't have many updates up if any until next Tues/Wed which are my days off.

I am really enjoying this dynasty so far, so much in fact I have struggled to start up my basketball dynasty and yes Hogs I am smelling a Pac-10 Championship as well, if I can win out, or if USC loses another game. I am somewhat scared of UCLA. They have owned me in the past, and Stanford is always dangerous even though I have beaten them all 3 times so far.
