Re: The Career of Bryan Dodge (NCAA11)

    RILEY DODGE NAMED STARTING QB
After a week of practice, neither Dodge or Thompson showed that 1 deserved the starting job over the other, so after a team meeting, the players voted and Riley Dodge was named the starting QB.

    L. Dunbar "I just really feel like Riley deserves this after what happened to his dad. He can be a great QB. It's our job to help him play at that level"

Jamal Jackson "Personally I don't care who is throwing the ball, as long as they are throwing it to me"

Riley Dodge "I am glad the guy's view me as their leader and I am going to promise to step up and show them I can be that guy"

Derick Thompson "I am okay with it. I understand that is how it is. I knew that Riley was projected to be the #1 when I signed here, and it's my job to be ready to step up and play when I am needed. I didn't do it against BSU, but I will be ready next time"

(With the decision Thompson will move to the #2 role, well SR N. Tune will serve as the #3)

      WEEK'S 10-13 RECAP

      -42 @ -13

Riley would start out the game 10/13 for 89 yds and a TD before leaving the game with a ankle injury. D. Thompson would deliver stepping in completing 14/31 for 158 yds and 3 TD's. L. Dunbar would have 133 combined yards and 3 TD's well J. Jackson had 6 rec for 109 yds.

      R. Lindley was 22/39 296 yds 1 TD 2 INT's in the loss. R. Hillman had 23 carries for 100 yds and WR V. Brown finished with 9 rec 96 yds

      -48 vs -45
Riley would play through the pain of a spained ankle completing 24/47 for 470 yds with 2 TD's and 2 INT's. Lance Dunbar would rush 26 times for 142 yds and 4 TD's and WR Jamal Jackson would catch 15 balls for 318 yds (breaking his previous school record) and 1 TD. North Texas would win the game on a 34 yd FG with 34 seconds to play

Colin Kaepernick was 23/42 324 yds 4 TD's and 1 Int in the loss. The threw 2 of those TD's and the INT in the 4th Quarter attempting to help his team win the game.

      -26 @ -21

It was 21-20 at the half, but a 6 yd TD run by L. Dunbar in the 3rd Q and a failed 2pt conversion would give North Texas the lead. Both teams finished 3-18 (16%) on 3rd downs and Fresno was 1-3 on 4th down in the 4th Q.

Fresno's R. Colburn would start the game going 7/9 for 82 yds and 2 TD's but was forced to leave the game, leaving the game into the hands of Derek Carr (David's little brother). The younger Carr would go 7/22 for 123 yds 1 TD and 2 INT's (both in the 4th Q)

Again R. Dodge would start the game but not finish. Dodge was 9/15 for 146 yds 1 TD before leaving the game with the same ankle injury that plagued him the past 2 weeks. Thompson would play well in relief 13/23 106 yds but a 4th Q INT would still haunt him.

      L. Dunbar would carry the ball 20 times for 76 yds and a TD well also catching 5 balls for 66 yds.

      J. Jackson caught 6 balls for 90 yds

          WEEK 10-15 RECAP

Lots of big changes when on in the Top-25 over the last 5 weeks of the season except for the #1 spot. Ohio State held on to the #1 ranking after finishing the year with a perfect 12-0 record including a Week 15 over #5 Michigan 41-17.

Virginia Tech made it all the way to #2 in the nation going undefeated being Top-25 opponents (Georgia Tech,UNC, and Miami FL), however they must face off against #7 Florida State in the ACC Championship game leaving their National Title hopes riding on a win.

Oklahoma also finished the year 12-0 and #3 in the polls as they cruised through their new North Division. However they too have a big challenge ahead as they face off against #9 TCU in the Big 12 Championship game.

(TCU beat undefeated Baylor in Week 10 but lost to Texas in Week 11 32-12 losing their chance at a undefeated season)

After beating North Texas. Boise State went on to win 5 straight including a tough battle with Nevada (14-7) to remain undefeated team in the nation, but the Broncos could climb no high then #4 in all 3 polls (Media,Coaches,BCS) going into Championship Week. There only hopes for a BCS National Championship game would be a loss by #2 VT and #3 Oklahoma

Thanks. That's all was hoping for. It woudl've been nice to beat BSU at home, but my QB was so inconsistant this year that made it hard to do..

              BOISE STATE GETS THE SHAFT

With the loss of #2 Virginia Tech and #3 Oklahoma, that left only 2 undefeated teams in the nation. #1 Ohio State and #4 Boise State. Most assumed that we would finally see a National Championship game featuring David and Goliath. Instead the BCS Committee picks #7 Florida State who moves up to #2 in the Media Poll and #3 in the Coaches Poll to play the #1 Buckeyes.

Boise State finishes the year #2 in the Coaches and #3 in the Media even though they got 17 1st place votes compared to FSU zero votes and both had the same .992 point totals in the BCS Poll. Boise State will be left to play in the Rose Bowl vs #10 Oregon, in a rematch of their Week 1 game which saw the Broncos win 42-23.

The Hokies dropped from #2 to #7 after the ACC Championship game loss, well TCU moves up from #9 to #5 after the win over Oklahoma in the Big 12 Title game. Oklahoma dropped to #8 after the loss.
Michigan #4, Wisconsin #6, Nebraska #9, and Oregon #10 Round out the Top-10

MEAN GREEN TO PLAY IN THE POINSETTIA BOWL

The Poinsettia Bowl is guarenteed the 2nd place team from the MWC. With Boise State's #3 finish and a Rose Bowl berth, the Las Vegas Bowl who is normally gets the MWC Champ, instead was left to take Arizona to play against Washington, leaving the #3 team North Texas the berth. With no conference ties to the opponent, the Poinsettia Bowl committee was left to offer at large bids to eligible teams. After being turned down by several teams, the committee was forced to select (6-6) Temple who finished in 8th place in the MAC.

Coach Dodge "Of course I am disappointed that we are not taking on a bigger named opponent. Rumors over the last several weeks had us going to Las Vegas to play USC. A win over the Trojans would've have been huge in terms of recruiting. All we can hope for now is that we can win this game and finish the season on a high note. It's been alot of years since North Texas has had a bowl win."

JAMAL JACKSON BREAKS ANOTHER SCHOOL RECORD

Jackson broke the single game yards record in Week 1, but then set a new high in Week 11 with 318 yds in the win over Nevada. Also in that game Jackson broke the season yards record as he finished the regular season with 1817 yds. Jackson also has a outside chance at 2 more school records 13 TD's in a season (he has 11) and 113 rec in a season (he has 109).

(Jackson finished 3rd in the Biletnikoff voting. L. Hankerson (Miami) won, well D. Sanzenbacker finished 2nd)
LANCE DUNBAR NEEDS 23 AND 30
Lance Dunbar needs 23 yds rushing and 30 yds recieving to finish the season with 1000 yds rushing and 500 recieving. The JR also had a combined 18 TD's (13 Rush/5 Rec)

(Dunbar finished 5th in the Walker Award. R. Williams (VT) won with 2000 total yds of offense and 25 TD's.)

UNT GETS 3 MWC 1ST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN BIDS

Joining Jackson and Dunbar on the MWC All-American 1st team ballot was SR DT S. Anderson. Anderson had 25 Tackles (12 TFL) 2 sacks and 3 Forced Fumbles.

(JR DE B Akpunku, SR ROLB C Robertson and SR SS I. Smith were named to the 2nd team)

                  (8-4) vs (6-6)

                  GAME PREVIEW

Don't let the (6-6) record fool you. The Temple Owls are a good football team. After a 9-4 record last year and a loss in the EagleBank Bowl to UCLA (31-20), the Owls are ready to claim their first Bowl win.

The man who everyone will be watching is RB B. Pierce who as a Freshman was named MAC FOY rushing for 1361 yds and school record 16 TD's. Injuires have plagued Pierce this year as he has carried the ball only 80 times for 405 yds, but he is ready to show the nation what they have been missing.

North Texas is just happy to be back in a bowl and are a looking to end their season on a high note having won 3 straight, however they would face a challenge as it was announced that Riley Dodge their starting QB would miss his 5th game of the year this time with a broken hand. SO D. Thompson will start in his place.

Coach Dodge "I don't know what to say. Riley is injury prone. This marks his 6th injury in just 3 years. I have talked to him and his mom, and we are going to evaluate moving him back to WR in order to keep him upright and out of the doctors office"

                  GAME RECAP

Both teams would struggle to score in the 1st Quarter, as North Texas is dealt another huge blow when QB D. Thompson is forced from the game (leg injury). Thompson would leave after completing 5/6 passes for 37 yds. Enter SR N. Tune.

Tune would start the 2nd Quarter by throwing a "Pick 6" as Temple gets on the scoreboard (7-0) Tune would redeem himself throwing a 20 yd TD pass to A. Lott with 54 seconds in the half to tie the game (7-7)

In the 2nd half it was the N. Tune show. Tune would throw 3 more TD's (23 yds-J. Jackson, 8 yds-A. Fitzgerald, 8 yds-L. Dunbar) and D. Cook would return his own "Pick 6" 42 yds for a TD as the Mean Green rolled over on the Temple Owls on their way to their 9th win of the season and their first Bowl win since 2002.

                  FINAL SCORE UNT-35 TEMPLE-10

                  KEY PLAYERS

                  QB N. Tune 18/32 227 yds 4 TD's 1 INT
                  RB L. Dunbar 19 carries 72 yds, 3 rec 24 yds 1 TD
                  WR J. Jackson 6 rec 117 yds 1 TD

                  RB B. Pierce 28 carries 125 yds

                  POST GAME INTERVIEW

Coach Dodge "I am excited for my players, the fans, the University and mostly for my brother. This team was his players, the offense was for the most part his offense and I was just here to facilitate it to make sure that they did what they were suppose to do. This win is for you Bro!!!"

                    #1 -34 #2 -31

"Ohio State would score with 1:33 left to pull ahead. Just like in the ACC Championship and Big 12 Championship. It was the backup QB winning the game for their team. T. K. Moore "I am proud to expect this award, however I rather be standing up here holding a National Championship trophey. I believe our team could beat Ohio State and it disappoints me that we didn't get a chance."

Thanks for all those who submitted recruits. I will create them and in the offseason and give updates on what schools are targetting them and where they are looking to sign.

Also I am going back and rewriting my story on how Coach Bryan Dodge got the job at North Texas. Instead of having his brother Todd Dodge die, he is just going to be in a accident that keeps him from coaching the 2010 season. I felt bad for killing off a real person and it now plays into where I want to take Bryan Dodge into his future role better.

COACH BRYAN DODGE TO LEAVE DENTON?

                                Reported by Ryne Dezaron....

"It is learned that after leading the North Texas Mean Green to a 9-4 record including the schools 1st Bowl win in 8 years that Coach Bryan Dodge has recieved several offers to leave UNT for a permenent Head Coaching job, with the return of his brother to the helm at North Texas"

Using a Spread/Pro passing attack, established a offense that finished 9th in the Nation in Total yards and finished 12th in the Nation in scoring at 34.4 PPG.

We have learned that there are 2 schools currently on Coach Dodge's radar. Both happen to have the Cougars as their mascot. The University of Houston is looking for a new Head Coach after Kevin Sumlin to the University of Minnesota. Houston started the year ranked in the Top-25 but after losing Heisman canidate QB Case Kennum and backup QB Cotton Turner to season ending injuries, Coach Sumlin was forced to play FR Terrence Broadway and the Cougars struggled finishing 3-9 avg just 17 points per game. One of those losses came in Week 4 against Coach Dodge and the Mean Green.

The Other school vying for Coach Dodge's services is Washington State University. Once a Pac-10 Powerhouse, the WSU Cougars havn't seen success since 2003 when they beat Texas in the Holiday Bowl just 1 year after losing to Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl. Since the departure of Coach Mike Price to Alabama (short lived now at UTEP), the Cougars have gone 35-62 including a 5-32 record with Coach Paul Wulff.

Last season WSU finished just 2-10 and a disappointing 0-9 in the Pac-10. The Cougars struggled to score points as they finished with just 189 points with 69 of them coming off the leg of SR PK N. Grosa 23/26 FG's.

Here are some comments given from Coach Bryan Dodge.

"Obviously it's going to be hard to leave Denton, but this is what I have dreamed of my entire life. It's a hard choice. I have loved my time in Texas so coaching at Houston would give me the opportunity to stay, however I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, and coaching at WSU has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid, but lets be realistic taking over at Houston even though they are in the Big 12, I still feel they give me the best chance to win now and win often. As much as I love WSU, the school is at least 3-4 years away from really making a huge move in the new Pac-10 and lets be honest it's pretty tough to get high profile kids to come to Pullman."

Only time will tell which Cougar Coach Dodge will lead out onto the field next year.
