Time for Change...A New Team in Florida (Madden 11)

A New Team in Florida Football

    Jacksonville-
Since their inaugural season in 1995, the Jacksonville Jaguars have been a roller coaster of a team marked by their inconsistency. While the have at times been great, such as 1999 season in which they finish 14-2, recently they have struggled to win games and sell tickets. After intense blackouts of Jaguar's games by the NFL due to lack of fan support, it has been announced that Wayne Weaver will sell his rights to the 29th NFL franchise to the Walt Disney Company. The company already has a large sports entertainment division including the ultimate sports media company, ESPN. It has also been decided that due to the "lack of star power" of the Jaguars, the players contracts will be bought out under terms that they will not set foot in the NFL again. Overall this move seems to be good for both the NFL and Florida football as a whole, however, there are huge questions surrounding the move and potential players.

    Disney Unveils Plans for "Project"

    Disney Unveils Plans for "Project"

Orlando- After last week's exciting news regarding the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, more information has been announced. Disney board members have chosen a location close to home for the new team, Orlando, FL. After much deliberation, the company decided the booming tourist city of the southeast would be a prime location due to it's growing population, great media market, and the area's love for football. Orlando has been starving for a real football franchise for years and it appears the have gotten their wish.
As for a stadium, the team will being playing it's 2010 games at newly renovated Citrus Bowl. Vacated by UCF in 2007, the stadium has served as a facility for smaller football leagues such as the UFL and AFL for the past few years. Although it has been criticized for being out-of-date and small, there are hopes that with success, a new stadium may be build in a few years.
The nickname for the new Orlando team has also been decided and once again the team will go back to classic times. Say hello to your Orlando Citroknights. The name appeals to the deep industrial routes of citrus production throughout the area. Originally, a similar namesake was used by Florida Tech University, which is now UCF, however, a new fiercer look will be made. The Colors will be a bold dark orange and black.

      CitroKnights Release Preseason Roster

Orlando- The Citroknights have released a preseason roster for the upcoming season. After the move from Jacksonville, the team signed an agreement releasing all players from the NFL and leaving a "blank slate" at all positions. This move was widely ostracized through the media.

"I think this move is just ludicrous. Orlando can enjoy a winless season. I give this little "project" three years"
      -Jim Rome

        Coach Named?

        Coach Named?

Orlando- After last week's release of a near complete roster, many wondered who would be hired to coach this lovable band of castoffs. But the team has just announced an answer. Sticking with the local belief, Disney executives have hired local high school coach Thaddeus Brockway, leader of Olympia High School's Titan football team. Olympia is located just outside of Orlando and we sat down with the newly named coach to get the details on his hiring.

Q: So coach, How's it feel to go from high school to the NFL?

Well, honestly it feels like a big change. I mean I walked into the team gym the other day and was shocked at the size of the players. We got some big dudes running around. I'm really excited though. I love the Jags and I want to take this team further. it's all a process though.'

Q: So what do you think of your new personnel?
I sat down with this team and I really like the vibe I got. There all just great guys who haven't their chance at the pros. Right now, we're so young too. Our oldest guy is 25. We have a lot of room to grow.

Q: Do you think this team is ready to compete?

Oh god no. Ha. Like I said it's all a process. I love our guys but we still have a few moves to make.

Q: What direction are you looking to take this team?

Well, I've always been a fan of the heavy blitz teams so you can expect alot of that. And I want to tear teams apart of offense through both running and the air. We'll just have to see how things go. I think we need to add a few vets to go along with our team. We still have some spots to fill and I think we'll be great. Just gotta make it through preseason first. Thanks for having me, but I gotta go do some work.

It looks like the coach has an idea of what he wants to see. A full roster breakdown will be released for the upcoming season in the near future.

          CitroKnights Add Some Key Players

CitroKnights Add Some Key Players and Finalize Roster

Orlando- Coach Brockway claimed there would be additions to the team and it didn't take long. Yesterday, the CitroKnights picked up some key players for the upcoming season, filling the holes at several positions. Here's an in-depth look at the roster for the 2010 season:

          QB-
The quarterback position is an interesting spot on this roster. Local favorite Charlie Bowes looks to be the starter. Bowes played for the University of Central Florida for his college career but was mainly utilized as a backup. He has an average arm, great footwork, and loads of potential.
Perhaps the bigger name at this position is former #1 pick and ultimate bust Jamarcus Russell. He will be the team's number 2 after getting released by the Raiders following terrible performances throughout his young career.

HB-The good Ole' Canadian Nate Rucks looks to be a key in this backfield. After posting big numbers in his only year in the CFL, he looks to take on a tougher breed of football. He is a shifty runner who is a decent option. Anthony Aldridge will be the backup after having little success so far is his career. His speed will provide a constant threat of a big play. Even deeper on the chart will be Dwayne Richardson and Cris Bradley who both have potential to contribute.

FB-Tim Shade will be a decent option both blocking and receiving but don't look for too much from here.

WR-Perhaps the biggest weakness on this team is the lack of a big time receiving threat. Rookie Donald Moore posted big numbers in the air raid offense of E Tenn St, but critics question whether this will translate to NFL success. Logan Payne will be the weakside receiver and will look to establish himself as a 3rd down threat. Former Florida standout returner Brandon James will provide the team's only big play option working out of the slot.Louie Guidry, Marquez Ambles, and Lamar Figgins will serve minimal roles on passing downs.

TE-Nick Guillium is small for a tight-end, but is a big time blocker. Although he lacks the speed to do much after the catch, he has decent hands and will be used over the middle. Timmy Mullen and newly signed Joey Haynes are both over 6'6" and will be great in red-zone situations.

OL-The offense line has a few big bodies, but nothing super noteworthy. Each starting position will be based on practice from the week and we could see many combinations from this unit. Each player has decent potential. The key player will be LT Warren Kent who was solid for Michigan State, but needs to cut down on his penalties.

DL- There is a lot of youth on this line as is a common theme throughout this team. Both starting ends Torrance Hardman and David Owens are wrecking balls who could cause havoc for offensive lines. Owens finished his Air Force career with 19 sacks and loves to crush quarterbacks. The line will be anchored by 14 year vet Hollis Thomas. He will provide leadership for these young pass rushers as well as stability up the middle. David Humphrey also has potential as a run stuffer.

LB-This is a weak unit on this team. Former Pro Bowler Derrick Burgess will start on the weakside and will look to build upon his resume. He was a nasty hitter for much of his career but seems a little past his prime. Stanford Keglar will start on the other side and will look to become a big time pass rusher in this blitz heavy D. Captain Hawaii David Veikune will be the man in the middle and will hopefully be able to make up for the rest of the unit. The backups are on par with the starters and there could be room for a preseason position battle. Jermaine Terrell is a beast athletically, but needs work on some of the key mental aspects. He looks to be the X factor for this unit.

CB-The captain of this defense is clearly Dre Bly. Although he may be older, he is still a shut down player against most wide-outs. He is also a valuable teacher for this young D. On the other side will be another form UCF standout Joe Burnett. He was cut to make room on Pittsburgh's roster, but will be a contributor.Stephen Berger, Twan Hand, and Lake Stanton round out this unit. All three are inexperienced but have potential.

S-Glen Myers and Bryan Holt are both decent player with limited potential. This position could use and upgrade but both starters are serviceable.

          ST-
Daniel Basset is a kicker who could be replaced by the end of the season. And Bert Jackson is a strange breed. He prefers to punt barefoot and his favorite past time is "Listenin' to Skynard"

Brandon James and Anthony Aldridge will return kicks. Both have decent speed and potential to turn a short kick into a home-run.

            Eagles Destroy CitroKnights

            Eagles Destroy CitroKnights

            Philadelphia-
The first game didn't turn out quite the way Coach Brockway had hoped. The Citroknights started off the game with a 45 yard drive ended by a 38 yard field goal, but after that it was a beat down. The Eagles ended up winning 31-6 in large part due to five turnovers. All three quarterbacks threw interceptions and JarMarcus fumbled once. It wasn't pretty. The defense held well despite the turnovers and only allowed 285 yards of offense. The offense was ugly however, amassing only 67 rushing yards.

            Passing
Kolb- 6-10 for 83 yards and two touchdowns
Vick- 7-11 for 61 yards and a score

            Bowes-11-19 for 113 yards and 1 pick
Russell- 7-13 for 52 yards and 2 picks
Cotton- 1-4 for 8 yards and 1 pick

            Rushing
            Mccoy- 13 carries, 67 yards
            Bell- 8 carries, 39 yards
Vick- 6 carries, 35 yards and a score

            Rucks- 11 carries, 31 yards
            Aldridge-9 carries, 21 yards
            Bowes- 6 carries, 15 yards

            Receiving
Celek- 2 catches, 11 yards, two scores
            Maclin- 1 catch, 19 yards, 1 score

            Moore-3 catches 46 yards
            Aldridge- 2 catches 31 yards

It's like the spartan one. It actually looks pretty tight. And I tried to mimic my uniforms after all the sleek new college ones that are coming out from Nike.
