Thomas gets early X-Mas gift, new 5 year contract

LANDOVER, M.D-- Looks like Snyder Claus had something special in his bag for Devin Thomas this year. In the form of a new contract.

The 'Skins starting wideout just signed a 5 year, $22.94 million contract today. "I'm proud to know that this organization is willin to give to those who put in that work to make this team special." Thomas said to the press after practice at Redskins Park.

Thomas leads the league in reciving yards & is second in touchdown catches. He's also in the top ten in receptions, & is close to breaking the Redskins franchise single season recpetion yards record owned by former starting wideout Santana Moss.

      2011 Season Week 13

'SKINS OUTRUN SEAHAWKS FOR 4TH STRAIGHT WIN

The Redskins quest for their first playoff appearance in four seasons continues with winning becoming less of a trend & more of the norm. Despite a sub par performance from Cam Newton Washington prevailed as they defeat the Seahawks 26-14. The Redskins running game was the vocal point this time as Jerious Norwood delivered his third 100 yard game of the season. Larry Johnson also came through with 41 yards rushing in 9 attempts & a touchdown.

Washington was off to a brilliant start as Justin Tryon picked off Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck & ran 57 yards for his first ever pick-six. Cam Newton as well was off to a good start with his 2nd quarter TD pass to Chris Cooley as well as leading the ’Skins downfield for a 43 yard Graham Gano kick to put them up 17-0. After that like some of the other games of the season, the Redskins habit of inconsistency started to catch up with them. Newton started getting banged up & threw an interception late in the 2nd. Matt Hasselbeck led his team downfield & scored a late TD pass to Deion Branch.

The 3rd quarter showed the high power passing game of the Redskins grind to a holt. Drops & overthrows became frequent & it allowed Seattle to come within a touchdown coming into the 4th quarter. The game then belonged to Jerious Norwood & Larry Johnson. They combined for a total of 94 yards rushing in the 4th quarter including the 3 yard punch-in TD by Johnson to keep the game out of reach. A big hit from Leto Sheppard to force a Seahawk fumble as well as his recovery put win number 8 in the books. Washington goes home next Sunday as they take on their dreaded rivals the Cowboys.

HALLS 2 PICKS HELPS 'SKINS TO 5 IN A ROW

Fans of the burgundy & gold rejoiced today in FedEx Field as the Redskins swept the Cowboys in the regular season for the first time since 2005. Dallas got into an early lead but from the 2nd quarter on it was all ‘Skins in this 28-14 victory. Washington improved to 9-4 & have guarantied their first winning season since 2007. Of course this may of came with a price, that being running back Jerious Norwood’s MCL injury suffered during the 3rd quarter.

It looked like more of the same play from last week was gonna continue for Cam Newton. Early in the 1st quarter he threw an interception to Terence Newman which resulted in a long Cowboys drive. That drive ended with a Tony Romo TD pass to Roy Williams. Then on the next ‘Skins procession Jerious Norwood gets rocked for a huge fumble that’s picked up & returned for a touchdown by Anthony Spencer. The Redskins took back control in the 2nd quarter however. First with Romo throwing his first of two picks to DeAngelo Hall, then Jerious Norwood making up for his fumble with a 5 yard TD. A Newton pass to Ryan Broyles tied the game up at 14 heading into halftime.

The Washington defense took control of the game for here on. The secondary played the Cowboys receiving corps extremely well with batted passes & double teams which prevented big plays. A major setback for Washington however was Jerious Norwood leaving the game in the 3rd with an injury which is now being reported as related to his MCL. Despite this The ’Skins continued to roll with the final TD pass from Cam Newton to rookie running back Bilal Powel (the first catch in his career). Tony Romo & the Cowboys offense franticly tried to make a comeback but DeAngelo Hall put a stop to it in the final seconds with his second pick of the game. Right now Washington is right where they wanna be. Next week they have a chance to clinch their first NFC East title since 1999. If they defeat Miami & the Eagles loose next week they win the division.

Norwood has torn MCL, out the rest of the season.

LANDOVER, M.D-- Looks like the 'Skins will have to press on without thier starting runningback.

Jerious Norwood suffered a torn MCL last Sunday against the Cowboys. Team doctors have said that Norwood will require surgery & is expected to be out at least 2 to 3 months. This pretty much ends Norwoods season. Norwood is the Redskins leading rusher this year & has only seen the endzone 4 times in 10 games started this season. Norwood was out earlier in the year with a torn shoulder labrum.

"Its a big loss & I hope Jerious the best on his rehab. For now we gotta keep goin & pull behind Larry." That was head coach Mike Shanahan confirming that vet Larry Johnson will start for the rest on the season.

                        2011 Season Week 15

4 QUARTER COMEBACK WASTED AS 'FINS SHOCK THE REDSKINS IN OT

(NOTE: Man, I was so pissed off after this loss I forgot to take the pic for this game. Sorry bout that, but once you read the recap you'll understand.)

“Gut wrenching” “Improbable” “Unnecessary”. That’s what many of the Redskins players, coaching staff, & fans described the loss they just suffered in Miami Saturday night on NFL Network. Washington was down by two scores late in the 4th quarter & Cam Newton willed this team to a tie. However, luck finally ran out thanks to a botched field goal & a surprising score that put Miami on top 27-21 in overtime.

For the first three quarters the Redskins #2 rated passing attack was reduced to check downs & field goals. Cam Newton would end the game with 60 pass attempts, a career high. The Dolphins defensive line was all over Newton, as he was sacked a season high 5 times. The deep ball was nonexistent, which made Miami QB Chad Henne look like Tom Brady during this time. His 44 yard TD pass to Brandon Marshall was followed later by a interception by Newton to defensive end Kendall Langford that was ran back 35 yards for a pick-six. By the early stages of the 4th quarter Henne had connected for a 16 yard strike to tight end Tom Santi to put the Dolphins up 21-6.

Then came the miracles. After another failed ‘Skins procession, Chad Henne made a game changing mistake. He overthrew wideout Brain Hartline & ‘Skins corner Justin Tyron picked it off. After that Cam Newton drove his team downfield & even resorted to his scrambling ability to fend of the pass rush. This led to a 12 yard pass to Malcolm Kelly for the first TD for Washington. Newton then used his power to run into the end zone for the 2 point conversion to put them within a touchdown. After a Dolphins 3 & out, & on the first play from scrimmage, Cam Newton threw a 57 yard bomb to his playmaker Devin Thomas for the game tying touchdown. The Dolphins got the ball back with plenty of time to drive downfield for a field goal, but a huge sack on 3rd & long by of all people Albert Haynesworth forced Miami to punt & hope their defense would save them.

On the next drive Cam Newton & Larry Johnson milked the clock for all it was worth. Quick passes to the sidelines as well as Johnson pounding it in the middle burned time past the 2 minute warning into the final seconds. After an incomplete pass on 3rd down Washington was in Dolphin territory. Graham Gano attempted a 44 yard field goal to win it, & it sailed wide left. In overtime the ‘Skins won the toss & elected to receive. On the kickoff Ryan Broyles, who hasn’t fumbled all year, is leveled & coughs the ball up. Linebacker Channing Crowder recovers the fumble & runs it back for the winning score. As heartbreaking as it was the Redskins have no time to dwell on this loss. Next Sunday the NFC East title is on the line for them. The Eagles are 8-6 & a win over Washington will give them life in the NFC East race. Washington wins this game they clinch the division. Eagles vs. Redskins, Luck vs. Newton Part II, next Sunday.

                                LANDOVER, M.D--

A major contributor in the Redskins defense is out for the most important game of the year.

Outside linebacker Rocky McIntosh suffered at abdominal tear during last Saturdays loss to the Dolphins. He left the game early in the 2nd quarter. Team doctors have announced that he will only sit out this Sundays game against the Eagles & should be ready in time for the season finalie against Carolina.
