    Court ruling fall out

The Big East did just enough to scrape by with their BCS status and will be adding two teams for the upcoming football season. These moves bump them up to ten just two shy of what the BCS has decided they wanted their Automatic qualifiers to have. The Big East as expected has brought Texas Christian to their ranks. Texas Christian is coming off a great year including a #5 spot in the current polls. The jump to an automatic qualifying conference is a big leap for them. The shocker though is Notre Dame leaving the independency to join the Big East. Common homes for the school that have been suggested would be the Big East or Big Ten and with increasing pressure from the BCS with their inability of proving in the court case that Notre Dame is not getting preferential treatment, has been moved into an Automatic Qualifier conference making them look suddenly a lot more scary than last year.

The Big East has a lot more talent now, and there are rumors of them planning to offer the SEC's Kentucky and another unnamed school to bring them up to the twelve slots they hope to have. Kentucky is a long shot but their struggles in the SEC might be enough to make them make the leap. Notre Dame still retains its rights with CBS regardless of Big East favored channels, but will ensnare the same benefits that any other member would have.

The last of the pre-determined moves occured with a movement away from the Western Athletic Conference as conference winner, Hawai'i, has now joined the Mountain West, followed by two middle of the pack finishers in Fresno State and Nevada, the loss of Brigham Young a year ago keeps them at two shy of a conference championship game. The influx of talent is big though, if they can maintain a high level of play they may be elevated to Automatic Qualifier status.

The Conference USA announced a slight restructuring as two teams from the Sunbelt will be shifted up and two down. The ones making the cut? The Troy Trojans will be joining the West division alongside Rice, SMU, Tulsa, UTEP and now Southern Miss. In the East division, the Florida International Panthers were added, giving the Central Florida Knights an instate rival to compete with yearly. On the relegation list is both the Memphis Tigers and the Tulane Green Wave. Both have struggled heavily in the conference USA, the C-USA has been trying to battle with the Mountain West to be that conference that climbs to automatic qualifier status.

Coach Tyler Starks of Tulane was "shocked and extremely disappointed" that the Conference USA had decided to cut ties with the school and send them down to the Sunbelt but promises that "We will continue to have a successful season and will not let this news get us backtracked." The NCAA had offered to give the relegated teams players an opportunity to transfer without losing a year of eligibility but most stood by the rest of their squad and stayed put.

The Atlantic Coast Conference has warned Virginia that another poor performance this season may warrant them reaching out to a new member, similar threats have been placed upon Minnesota and Indiana out of the Big Ten, and Vanderbilt in the Southeastern conference. However for this year, the changes are set in stone. The Automatic qualifying conferences remain the same for another year, the Big East and Atlantic Coast have saved their bids, but the Mountain West or Conference USA with a solid performance can gain the right to the exclusive club.

Interesting move from Wake to Tulane. Seems like a step down but should be interesting to see what you can do there

I was just happy to get a head coaching offer. They have solid pipelines, I had them planned to relegate before I signed and it kind of hurt to do it but I did it to make the C-USA slightly stronger.

Tulane should be pretty strong after a few years or worst comes to worst its a stepping stone to a decent midmajor school.

Lost power and lost my update. Didn't check on my laptop when I went to play the games and now two games in I can't recover some of it. (Preseason Top 25, preseason heisman, preseason all Americans and the like). I will get the schedule up and punch out a renewed season preview.

Thanks for the positive feedback, any suggestions are welcome. (If you don't want to post them, mail me.)

Just a heads up, I won't be doing weekly highlights or anything that involves using youtube too much. It burns me out on a dynasty too fast, I try to show what I can.

Might have no updates tomorrow, I'm pretty busy.

Tulane struggles to hold on give up to late Bronco rally

(Boise, Idaho) - The familiar blue turf that has sent home over sixty straight opponents with a loss in college footballs longest home winning streak currently active. The Broncos have won sixty-nine straight after todays late victory pushed them over the top. Improving to an insane 91-14 record at home that undoubtably makes Bronco Stadium one of the hardest to play at in all of Division One.

"We didn't stay strong. We took a lead and got soft. It says a lot about both teams. We need to work on finishing and they have the ability to outlast anything. We had them beat and they managed to slip one out on us.. it hurts but we need to learn and move on from this." Spoke Tyler Starks in a post game interview.

The Broncos picked up over three hundred yards through the air with Hedrick picking up the majority of those yards with 277 and threw a trio of touchdowns. Lambert who would leave the game with an ACL tear finished over a hundred yards (106). Hedrick connected with Burroughs for a twenty eight yard score that would be made with only four seconds left in the game . Burroghs had five catchs surpassing 100 yards as well (143) but none bigger than the game winning catch that ensured the Blue Turf in Boise extended the winning streak.

In a losing performance, Robert Griffin completed 19 passes for 285 yards and a pair of touchdowns, the clear leader of the offense that had some issues developing a running presence against an off and on Boise defense. Orleans Darkwa would finish above the century mark in large part to a sixty one yard run that led to a Tulane touchdown later in the drive. The ball was spread out well but the team couldn't hold on. The defense notched two interceptions that led to the early struggles of the offense. Both sides will be feeling this game for a while, several fumbles occured throughout the game thanks in large to the hard hits that both teams responded with.

The Broncos start the season at 1-0 and the Tulane Green Wave fall to 0-1 and will face the Cincinnati Bearcats in their season opener next week.

Coach Starks finally overcomes OT woes and knocks off Cincinnati

(Cincinnati, Ohio) - Cincinnati has become plagued with poor athletic showingsHow good in recent years from the collegiate to professional level and that would not change today. The offense played fairly well enough to keep them in this game, yet the defense left a lot of concern. Mainly with how they could allow 44 points to a Sunbelt team.

The Greem Wave had to battle back in this one, especially after losing Robert Griffin to an injury (out for the majority of the season) bringing in Ponder who was not expected to get much playing time this season. Yet under Ponder, they would manage to battle back into this one. The Green Wave found themselves down 10-14 at the end of the first thanks inlarge to a late touchdown pass from Cincinnati.

The second quarter just inceased the separation between the two teams as the Bearcats extended it to a 10-21 game on a long drive early in the quarter that ended with a bubble screen brought in for the score. The Bearcats would add a field goal in the third quarter making it a 10-24 game heading into the final quarter. The Green Wave came a live driving down field and behind Ponder scored a touchdown after a three minute drive. JoJo Dobbs came up with the touchdown making it a one possession game.

The Bearcats would be helpless, stopped in three downs out came the Green Wave who came out and absolutely burned down field yet with a minute to go had still not scored despite being in the red zone. That would change on a Barnett run up the middle that he would punch in from seven yards out tying the game. The Wave wouldn't yield and the game would goto overtime.

Both teams would keep it knotted up after the first overtime. The Wave won the toss and opted for defense and Cincinnati made quick work, scoring in two plays, the second on a Kay touchdown pass for the 18 yard score. Leaving Tulane to come out, and they too would score on two plays. After being sacks, Ponder on the following play hookedup with JoJo Dobbs on a slant and he would outrun his defenders getting tripped up into the end zone on a shoe string tackle.

The second overtime period and Tulane came out of the gates firing, Ponder once again tossing up a scoring pass, this one to the backup half back, Barnett. The Bearcats would score on their first play when Winn managed to split the defense on the run for the twenty-five yard score. The third overtimecame with both teams spliting field goals leading to the fourth overtime.

Finally the Bearcats will suffered and they yielded to the Green Wave. The defense would stop them after recovering a fumble on a sack leading to the Green Wave offense going out on the field. Only needing the field goal, the Green Wave ran the ball soundly and on third and one, they hit the game winning twenty eight yard field goal upsetting the Bearcats.

Tulane knocks off rival Southern Miss, cant hold onto shut out

(New Orleans, Louisiana) - Coach Starks and his defensive coordinator Steve Stanard had a great game plan that left the Golden Eagles confused and shell shocked. Chris Campbell quarterback for the Eagles couldn't keep things together and was commonly scrambling erratically in sutations that sometimes didn't even warrant it. The Green Wave pitched a nearly perfect game and will need to continue to do so, but sitting at 2-1 is a great start for this team, especially since it includes an upset and a victory over a rival.

How good was the Green Wave defense? Southern Miss was held to only 110 yards, including a negative total for rushing yards (thanks in large to the erratic scrambles of Campbell, star running back Hardy only have eight rushing yards off of twelve attempts and the offense only picked up one first down. The Wave pitched a perfect defensive game and until ten seconds left in the game were holding onto a shut out. Yet backup quarterback Aaron Favor came in and ruined the upset, hitting Mason on a slant for the score.

The Green Wave offense wasn't terrific, Ponder threw for only seventy nine yards against a staunt Golden Eagle defense, and the offense was carried by Orleans Darkwa who had 194 rushing yards on 22 carries, and backup Barnett added 61 yards on ten yards. The rushing attack is quickly becoming the deadly part of this offense especially after the injury to Griffin. The Green Wave scored twice in the first quarter and would be shut out untill the fourth quarter. Orleans Darkwa made the first score on a twelve yard run, and as time expired in the quarter Sean Barnett added a twelve yard touchdown rush of his own.

In the fourth, Ponder would get a touchdown pass to increase the separation on a third and long (and goal) hitting Ryan Grant for a eight yard score. The following drive, the Eagles managed to drive downfield scoring a pity score from eleven yards out with their back up quarterback. "This was a great game, it was disappointing we didn't get the shut out, but we can't deny the great game we played. I am extremely proud of our guys. In a rivalry game none the less." Spoke an estatic Tyler Starks in the post game interview. His record as a head coach improving to 2-1. His offense ranks in the top twenty of the NCAA and his rush defense sits towards the top of the NCAA as well, his secondary is lacking however. The secondary issues were not showcased in this game however. A solid effort all around.

Turnovers kill Memphis cause game to be blowout

It's hard to believe that the Tigers were leading at the half by 4 points. Yet it was a tale of two halves, the Tigers absolutely fell flat in the second half. The Green Wave hopped out quickly with a pair of touchdowns spread only by thirty seconds. The rout was on and as the turnovers piled on it only grew worse.

The Tigers found themslves up early in the game on a deep pass to Byrd who dragged his feet in the corner of the end zone getting the touchdown call giving them a 0-7 lead. Late in the quarter, the Green Wave hit a field goal still losing 3-7. On the following kick off the Tigers fumbled the ball in the end zone and Robertson of Tulane flew downfield diving on the ball in the end zone. The first turnover and the start of the Tigers collapse.

The Tigers would manage to take the lead again in the second quarter on a fumble by quarterback Dan Ponder giving Memphis the lead into the half. The momentum was with Memphis but they would get careless.

The defense broke down on a long Tulane drive that ended with JoJo Dobbs catching a slant and outrunning the defenders for a forty four yard score. Than a fumble on a sack later it would be Tulane ball yet again, and once again JoJo Dobbs would be the target for a 13 yard score. 24-14. The Green Wave struck hard.

The fourth quarter wasn't better for Mempphis. After a touchdown rush by Orleans Darkwas, out came the offensive unit who threw a interceptionto Travis who would return the ball forty nine yards for yet another quick score. A fast Memphis drive would return the ball yet again to the Green Wave who would strike again, a 19 yard field goal.

Another failed Memphis drive that ended with a fumble in the red zone that was brought back deep into Memphis territory would end with another Orleans Darkwas score. This game was ugly and the only thing salvaging it was the following kick return which Memphis brought back 96 yards for the score, but it did little to put aside the feeling of the beatdown they received and all the mistakes they had made. 48-21.

Green Wave outlast North Texas surviving at the Superdome

(New Orleans, Louisiana) - Tulane was almost unable to hold off the upstart Mean Green squad, a team that has been more of a joke than anything lately and although their record isn't anything to be proud of, they are more than capable of competing as they have shown against Tulane.

The game was back and forth with the Mean Green holding off the Tulane offensive attack in the first quarter while Jared Dodson turned in a touchdown pass on a twenty two yard pass to put them up by a single score. The big play offense of Tulane came out in the second quarter as the Green Wave scored on an Evan Nelson bomb to Ryan Grant to tie the game heading into the half.

In the closing minute of the third quarter, Jared Dodson showed his true abilities taking snaps at the Wideout position turning a slant into a fourty three yard touchdown on the Green Wave defense, his second of the day (one passing one receiving). Orleans Darkwa would respond with a strong run off tackle that turned into a huge seventy-six yard run tying the game yet again, but North Texas answered fast.

A good kick return and a strong offensive showing put seven more points on the board for North texas on a three yard run from Jimmerson to go ahead midway in the fourth. Tulane was helpless until the two minute warning, Eddie Nelson found Saunders on a slant and after knocking over a safety would turn it into a sixty-three yard touchdown score tying the game. Dodson would throw an interception giving the Wave a chance to win it before overtime.

They would captalize with Evan Nelson finding speedster JoJo Dobbs on a deep slant that quickly turned ugly for the Mean Green turning into a eighty three yard score as time expired with Tulane defending their home field where they are undefeated thus far.

Just a heads up I'm having major internet issues right now. It goes down for hours at a time and only comes up for a few minutes, not long enough for me to properly get tables down and the such. This isn't abandoned and I have about seven games worth of write ups on my laptop, just waiting to get tables done and such. I have the day off tommorrow from work (in between jobs actually, start at a 'new' one thursday.) So I'll be making a trip to best buy to buy some new internet gear and if that doesn't work I'll be having to wait longer for Comcast to send a tech guy out here. I do have updates but I don't have a lot of NCAA updates for around the league. Sorry about that, hopefully I'll be able to get this back up to a solid quality again soon.

                                Thanks,
                                CP
