      Midway season recap
Here we are, this is the 6th week of the college football season and already it's gotten crazy. Alabama which started the season ranked #6 and a top contender for the SEC West title is 0-3, and there are only 24 undefeated teams left.

South Carolina, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Auburn, Illinois, Notre Dame, and Oregon State are the teams that control their destiny.
If South Carolina or Auburn go undefeated, and only one can as they meet this week in South Carolina, they will go to the title game, Auburn has 6 ranked teams left on their schedule.

Wisconsin/Illinois are also a lock for the BCS title game if they go undefeated most likely based on the schedule ahead. OSU has 3 ranked teams left, A&M has 4.

Oregon State has 4 ranked opponents left, #4 Stanford, #8 Oregon, #25 Utah, and #21 Arizona State. However, due to everyone else's higher ranking the Beavers won't likely make the title game unless the higher BCS programs lose a game.

#3 Boise State must hope Missouri goes 11-1 and makes themselves into a legit title contender so BSU can use that as a platform to make the title game. Or that everyone finishes with at least one loss, otherwise the Broncos will be on the outside once again

        Miami (OH) RedHawks
        (2-2, 2-0 Home)

        #19 Missouri Tigers
        (2-1, 1-1 Away)
        Game Notes
Miami (OH) lost to both big name opponents they played this year (Tennessee and Illinois), and #19 Missouri only lost to #3 Boise State in a shootout. This game should be over by halftime, as Missouri's new 3-3-5 defense looks to shut down the Redhawks balanced offense that ranks #35 in rushing and #36 in passing. Missouri counters with the #1 rush defense in the nation, and the #42 passing defense.

            Missouri Tigers destroy Redhawks

With last year's near upset on the mind, the #19 Missouri Tigers held nothing back for all but 2 seconds. The offense started slow, scoring a 47-yard field goal with 0:35 left in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead.

James Franklin marched the Tigers 97 yards at the start of the second quarter, and Missouri took a 10-0 lead when Franklin connected with W. Kemp on a 5 yard slant.

Missouri's defense was relentless, and when Z. Dysert was sacked on 3rd and long by his own goal line, it was the 4th sack of the day.

            Dysert was harassed all day

Missouri kept going, taking a 20-0 lead at the half. The third quarter started bad for the Redhawks, as they started from their own 6 yard line, and ended up fumbling the ball at their 1 yard line, only for M. Wilson to scoop it up and rumble the lone yard for the defensive TD, giving Missouri a 27-0 lead.

            M. Wilson scoring a TD off a fumble recovery

Missouri subbed in their 2nd string defense, and kept going, sacking Dysert another 2 times, having a total of 7 sacks on the day for the Tigers defense.

The game ended when Z. Dysert connected on a short route to N. Harwell who sprinted 80 yards for the TD as time expired, and the Missouri Tigers routed the Redhawks 44-7.

Missouri only gave up 77 yards passing and 61 yards rushing and 7 first downs.

            Missouri POTG: J. Franklin 24/29, 311 yards, 3 TD
            M. Wilson: 8 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 FF, 1 defensive TD

              "Showdown" weekend results
In a weekend filled with great games, there were several suprises.
              #12 Illinois flattened Northwestern 27-3
              #23 Georgia destroyed Syracuse 41-17
#25 Utah defeated USC 27-24 in OT
#13 Notre Dame ended Purdue's perfect season 55-17
#20 Michigan beat West Virginia 33-30 in 2 OT

              Games Of The Week:
              #18 Arkansas defeated #6 Texas A&M 42-35 behind a 21 point 3rd quarter
              #9 Auburn upended #1 South Carolina 21-20
              #10 Michigan State ended #2 Wisconsin's perfect season 24-20

When the polls come out most people expect Boise State to leap to #1, as no team besides Auburn had a marquee victory that could justify a leap to #1, and Auburn was #9 so that leap is a stretch.

This marks the first weekend since Championship week in 2007 that #1 and #2 have both lost on the same weekend.

Polls disagree over the top teams
Polls not agreeing is nothing new to college football. Even in the BCS era sometimes teams are ranked highly by one poll but not by another. Nothing could be truer this week, as the AP and Coaches poll look very different at the top.

They key to this game is which Arizona State shows up. If it is the team that defeated #1 Oregon 39-20 then it will be a great game, but if it is the team that lose to UCLA 45-36 then Missouri should easily handle the Sun Devils.

Missouri's new 3-3-5 defense has yet to be tested, and while ASU is a solid team, most likely that test will have to wait until they travel to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in 2 weeks.

Conference races take shape as October starts

After last week's awesome amount of must-see games, there is not a lot of must see top 25 action, but there are several games to see, and one must see.

                    GOTW: #13 Arkansas (6-0) takes their #8 offense to #2 Auburn (4-0)
Minnesota (3-1) looks to try and knock off the #7 Michigan State Spartans (4-2)
                    #9 Oregon (4-1) plays at USC (4-1)
Louisville (3-0) goes to #25 Ole Miss (4-1)
#5 Illinois (5-0) goes to the big House to play #21 Michigan (4-1)
#14 Virginia Tech (4-1) plays Boston College (5-0)

So my entire file just corrupted, apparently VT was supposed to play NC State & Boston College the same week.
I have another copy I saved from the beginning of the season, I am going to replay the games (big & little, not just mine) and get the right results (maybe not score/stat wise but at least winner right).

I should be able to play the ASU game this Thursday.
Thank you for reading, I was discouraged that nobody posted until I saw 1300+ views and only like 100 are mine!

                        Playing the ASU game now.

                          #19 Missouri blanks ASU
The #19 Missouri Tigers hosted the Arizona State Sun Devils and played a very mean host as they held the Sun Devils to under 50 offensive yards and put up 3 defensive TD's enroute to a 52-0 victory.

Missouri's offense started slow, but finally got on the board thanks to a 10 yard pass by James Franklin. The Tiger defense however started quickly, sacking B. Osweiler on the first offensive play for ASU, and harassed him all day, getting 7 hurries and 6 sacks, not to mention shutting down ASU's option attempts with the longest option play going for -2 yards for ASU.

                          M. White nails a pick 6, for an NCAA record 85 yard td return

Missouri intercepted Osweiler 3 times, forced 4 fumbles, and recovered 3 of the fumbles.

                          D. Washington collects a 3rd INT for Missouri

With the victory the Tigers improve to 4-1 (2-0), and are in prime form going into their bye week and then facing #1 Oklahoma State at Stillwater, OK.

More turmoil at the top of the polls

This is easily the most turbulent season to be at the top of the rankings since 2007. #2 Auburn hosted #13 Arkansas in an SEC West game most thought Arkansas had no chance of winning, and Auburn lost 31-14.

Despite #2 Auburn losing, #3 Boise State stayed put, as they were leap frogged by Illinois thanks to Illinois's impressive 38-29 victory over #21 Michigan.

Michigan State, despite winning again, fell 2 spots to #9. Needless to say about halfway through the season there is no clear favorite.
Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Illinois, Notre Dame, Utah, and Oregon State are the teams that will have the best shots at playing for national championship if they win out. Oklahoma State and Arkansas are the two that most definitely control their destiny, nobody is going to rank a undefeated SEC champion lower than #2 in the nation, and the Cowboys have the schedule to hold onto #1. The Cowboys biggest tests left are #18 Missouri and #7 Oklahoma.
Arkansas only plays two more teams in the top 25, #24 Mississippi State and #21 LSU but no SEC schedule is a cake-walk.

                            #13 Arkansas (6-0) takes their #8 offense to #2 Auburn (4-0)
#7 Michigan State defeated Minnesota 34-3
                            #9 Oregon (4-1) thrashed USC 34-10
#25 Ole Miss represented the SEC West with a 40-17 victory over Louisville
                            #5 Illinois (5-0) beat #21 Michigan 38-29
                            #14 Virginia Tech (4-1) defeated NCSU 25-23

                                Games to watch week 8
                                Alabama (1-4) at #24 Ole Miss (5-1)
                                Idaho (4-0) at #4 Notre Dame (6-0)
                                Michigan (4-2) at #9 Michigan State (5-2)
                                #7 Oklahoma (4-1) at Kansas (4-1)
                                #1 Oklahoma State (4-0) at #23 Texas A&M (2-2)

The games to watch at both Big XII games.
Kansas's spread offense is #4 in the nation in total yards, and #2 in points. Oklahoma's defense is #16 in the nation, but can their #76 offense take advantage of the weak Kansas defense (#87). Kansas lost to Connecticut, an unproven Big East team, while Oklahoma lost to the fierce Missouri Tigers.

Oklahoma State vs Texas A&M is a top contest, because A&M is 0-1 in the big XII, but could still easily win it if they win out and Kansas finishes worse than 8-1 in Big XII play. Oklahoma State has a difficult stretch ahead, A&M this week, Missouri next week, and Kansas the next week. If they survive undefeated then it should be clean sailing until Bedlam.
