    Matchup Preview | August 24, 2013
    @
    #1 Missouri Tigers
    (0-0, Away)
    #5 Georgia Bulldogs
    (0-0, Home)
    Game Notes
The Missouri Tigers have been one of the most consistently over-looked football teams the last five years.
The Georgia Bulldogs are ranked #5 in the nation, and are one solid win away from being #1 in the nation. If the Bulldogs go undefeated they will play for the national title, an undefeated SEC Champion still carries a lot of weight in college football.

The Tigers are in a year of change defensively and offensive. James Franklin's last season could be his best, but the Tigers defense has lost some key players. the depth chart has yet to be published.

With the depth chart announced all anyone can notice is all the youth playing key positions. If the Tigers are halfway decent on defense this year they will truly be unstoppable in 2014/2015..

The #5 Georgia Bulldogs are waiting with open arms!

Start the national title hype: The Tigers are for real
The best thing about two top 5 teams meeting early in the year is you get a sense of how good a team truly is. After August 24th we can say the Missouri Tigers are for real.

The first quarter was a wash as the Tigers got to J. Butler early and rattled him but despite two sacks early in the first quarter could not produce any turnovers and it was only James Franklin's 9 yard toss to L. Washington that broke the tie.

Early and often the Tigers got to Butler

In the second quarter all the offense anyone could muster was C. O'Connor's nailed a nail of field goals, one a 36 yarder, the other a 50 yarder as the second quarter expired.

Up 13-0 with it anyone's ballgame the Tigers pulled away when B. Moore intercepted Butler and returned the pass 33 yards for a TD and a 20-0 lead.

Moore returns a 33 yard INT for a diving TD

With the 20-0 lead the Tigers started subbing in D-Linemen and other position players. The Bulldogs took advantage and surged back, getting close to staging a comeback before ultimately running out of juice. The Tigers offense never yielded, and they took home to 37-14 victory.

          Missouri Tigers stay #1

The Missouri Tigers stayed #1 after a great season opening victory for #5 Georgia.

#6 Notre Dame stumbled against Michigan State as the Spartans won the Rivalry game 43-21 behind a 302 yard passing and 267 yard rushing attack.

#24 USC stumbled against unranked Hawaii as the Warriors pulled off the 24-16 upset. The Warriors only had 267 yards of total offense, but pulled off the victory despite the Trojans amassing 413 yards of offense, 249 of them through the air.

            Game Notes
The #1 Missouri Tigers welcome the unranked (26th) Arkansas Razorbacks into the Big XII. The Razorbacks opened Big XII play last week against former SWC opponent Baylor where they were victorious 35-30, but the game exposed that Arkansas has a soft secondary and their blocking is suspect.

The Tigers look to take advantage of the fact Arkansas has a weak secondary with short to mid-range crossing routes, and the Tiger defense will be throwing everything they have at Arkansas QB Brandon Mitchell who will likely be running for his life all day. It's a good thing he is quick.

History is on the Hogs side though, as the entire series between these two teams is 3-2, with no teaming winning two in a row. Missouri won the last meeting 38-7 in the Cotton Bowl in 2008.

Early predictions are Missouri by 10 1/2

              Games to watch this weekend
#15 Notre Dame (0-1) tries to redeem themselves from their Big 1G opening loss that really hurt their national title hopes. They play #2 Michigan at Ann Arbor. Despite the loss to the Spartans the Fighting Irish are still favored due to the fact they are much larger up front.

#11 Georgia (0-1) hosts their second consecutive top 5 opponent with a game against conference opponent #4 LSU (0-0). After the opening loss to the other Tigers, the Bulldogs must fight to re-earn respect as the LSU Tigers are 8 point favorites.

Re: When the Defense Roars: Missouri Tigers Dynasty

                Razorbacks/Tigers an instant classic
From the moment the ball was snapped until the moment the final horn sounded, the #1 Missouri Tigers were on their heels.
The Razorback secondary picked off James Franklin 2x in the first quarter and sacked him three more, picking up critical field position for their offense who went up 14-0 after one quarter and 17-0 at the half.

After the break C. Browning decided he would save the day for Tigers, intercepting Brandon Mitchell and returning it 61 yards to allow Henry Josey to pound it in, making it 17-7.
The Razorbacks responded with a 31 yard field goal, making it 20-7. The Tigers finished the third quarter with James Franklin hooking up with Jimmy Thomas for 17 yards and a TD to make it 20-14 going into the fourth quarter.

The Razorbacks scored again, another field goal, this time a 41 yarder to take a 23-14 lead. The Tigers responded with James Franklin to L. Washington for a 37 yard pass and PAT to make it 23-21 with 1:11 left. The onside kick failed, but with three timeouts the Tigers had a chance. They had to hold the Razorbacks though.

The first down ended when Larry Harris broke through the line for a 4 yard sack. The Tigers called timeout, then relied on A. Wilson to tackle the ballcarrier for a 2 yard gain, making it 3rd and 12 with 0:57 left. The Tigers held, and took over with 0:29 left in the game on their own 21 with no timeouts.

Franklin connected with Josey for a 11 yard gain, and L. Washington for another key first down to get it within field goal range. With 0:03 left Chris O'Connors took the field and nailed a 43 yard field goal to lift the #1 Missouri Tigers past the unranked Arkansas Razorbacks 24-23.

                C. Browning finished as POTG with 2 int, 9 tackles, and 1 ff.
James Franklin finished 17/35 with 3 int, 2 TD, 197 yards, and was sacked 5 times

I simply use the operation sports tables, I don't really modify the output code after I preview so that I can make sure it looks right.

I've tried that, but it seems like something doesn't come out right. So I just quit using them.

Tigers remain #1, Big XII has 5 ranked
The Missouri Tigers remained the concensus #1 with a 24-23 come from behind win over Arkansas.
                          #2 Michigan defeated #15 Notre Dame 44-21

With their almost win over #1 Missouri, Arkansas moved to #25 in the Coaches poll despite the loss; giving the Big XII 5 ranked teams.

                            Game Notes
Twice the Missouri Tigers and Boise State Broncos have met in the last two years.
Both games have been shootouts, and both have been highlights in seasons filled with amazing games.

There is no real hate, but the Tigers do wish to end this series with a win and a 2-1 overall record vs the Broncos. #1 vs #9, college gameday in town, this should be one for the ages.

Odds are on Missouri in a 45-35 shootout

Other games to watch in the second weekend of CFB

                              #25 Arkansas (1-1) hosts #13 Kansas (1-0)
                              #3 Illinois (1-0) hosts #20 Notre Dame (0-2)
                              #12 LSU (0-1) hosts #14 TCU (0-0)

It's still early in the year, but the top 3 teams in the polls control their own destinies at this point.

                                Conference Alignment: Again!?
When the Big XII added Arkansas from the SEC last year it seemed conference realignment was over. Apparently not now, as the ACC and Big East seem back at war with each other. Apparently the ACC wants Syrcause and Pittsburg, and the Big East is responding by trying to raid the Big XII and C-USA again.

Meanwhile the giants seem to be sleeping. The SEC is apparently not eager to battle with the Big XII again, trading A&M for Arkansas was pretty lateral if not a slight advantage due to Texas recruiting grounds, but Arkansas did leave the SEC, something that has not happened in 50 years.

The Big 10 is searching for a 14th member, and Missouri is on their lists, but so is Rutgers.

The PAC-12 has remained pact at 12 and said they will not make any changes before 2015.

The Big XII is reportedly looking at expanding to 12, but would like specific teams such as TCU, BYU, and possibly West Virginia. Short of those teams they will most likely not expand, and not soon to be sure.
