Thanks Connor, it's always great to know people are reading!

I did not take the SEC route, it was not announced when I made some other conference changes and I didn't figure we would jump to the SEC, so it's not fully realistic anymore but I enjoy it still.

I am St Joseph, MO area myself, try to make 1 or 2 Tiger games every year, always the Border Showdown (still War imo).

Missouri rolls up some more style points by destroying Iowa State

With November 29th and the Border War next week some people expected Iowa State to have the perfect chance to upset #1 Missouri. Iowa State stopped Missouri's first drive, and moved the ball a few yards after the kickoff. On their second play M. Wilson forced a fumble and L. Harris scooped it up and rumbled 14 yards to make it 7-0 Missouri.

Missouri didn't let go either, Iowa State returned the kickoff and then on their first play M. Wilson nailed a picture perfect interception, and returned it to make it 14-0 on two defensive plays by Missouri.

The game continued to get out of hand. D. Steele was unstoppable for Missouri as he rolled for 5 total touchdowns and over 230 yards total.

Missouri made short work of Iowa State, with Iowa State's only score coming with 42 seconds left in the first quarter when S. Richardson scrambled 8 yards to make it 21-6. Unfortunately after that they had no chance, only gaining 100 total yards in the next three quarters as Missouri rolled 72-6.

Weekend results, Kansas vs Missouri is locked in

For the next 7 days everyone will be focused on one place, Lawrence Kansas.
It's a small town, and known mainly for it's basketball. Once in 2007 it was the home of the 11-0 Kansas Jayhawks who were #2 in the major polls and they played a highly ranked Missouri squad (#4), and lost. Then again in 2013 those same Jayhawks were 11-0 and #3 in the major polls, and played a highly ranked Missouri team (#2) and won the national title.

This year the Jayhawks are also 11-0, and #2. And they are facing their own highly ranked (#1) Missouri team.

This is the latest Game of the Century matchup, and there will be a rematch in two weeks. Still doesn't keep the buzz down though.

The polls haven't been announced yet and won't for awhile, but everyone knows Missouri and Kansas are still #1/#2.

Coaches and BCS Polls released

There were no surprises in the latest Coaches and BCS polls.
The Big 10 has 4 teams ranked in the top 10 of both polls, and 5 in the top 13.

USF, Middle Tennessee State, Ohio, and Navy are all having a hard time getting respect despite being 1 loss teams.

TCU and Ohio State are the front runners for the 1 loss teams, with Arkansas a distant third, and Rutgers fourth. No other one shot team currently has a shot at coming close to the BCS National Championship, and for Arkansas alone it would require massive upsets.

Middle Tennessee State is still sitting at #17, they need to move into the top 16 and be ahead of an AQ conference champion to be guaranteed an at large BCS Berth, or move into the top 12 period.

Middle Tennessee State's best hope appears to be Virginia Tech losing to Virginia, which would put the ACC Championship game between two teams ranked below Mid Tenn State, and allow Virginia Tech to fall from the top 16.

Kansas/Missouri loser not necessarily out of National Championship

This Saturday the #1 Missouri Tigers and the #2 Kansas Jayhawks face off in the latest Game of the Century. Missouri and Kansas have never played a #1 vs #2 matchup before although they have come close, last year was #2 vs #3 and 2007 was #2 vs #4.

Kansas and Missouri are two of three remaining undefeated teams in the Bowl Division of Division 1 College Football. Obviously the winner will be ranked #1 heading into their rematch in 2 weeks for the Big XII Championship. Here is the question though, what about the loser?

If Missouri loses they do have wins over top 10 teams Arkansas and Michigan to keep themselves securely in the top 6, probably even top 5 regardless of the score. If it's an overtime game look for Missouri to stay top 4.
Kansas doesn't have the same resume, but they will probably stay top 5 if it is a close game, top 8 if it's a blowout.

Worst case scenario for the loser of the MU/KU game is for all the favorites to win, which puts them at #4-#6 if it is a close game. If Missouri loses this weekend, but wins the Big XII title game, they might just leap back to #2 in time to play for the BCS National Championship. You know TCU and Ohio State would love for opportunities to redeem themselves for their losses, but Missouri/Kansas will get that chance. That right there might be enough to ensure the Big XII has someone in the national championship.


Whoever wins, look for the rematch to be even more heated in 2 weeks.

2014 Border War: The "Game of the Century" lives up the hype and more

The 2014 Border War was one of the most anticipated games of the week. News of #7 Michigan upsetting #5 Ohio State spread to the players and fans as kickoff approached, meaning that whoever lost the game would probably still be ranked in the top 4.


Missouri took the opening kickoff, and in regular fashion marched the ball the field with a mix of passing and running plays and scored first with an opening 12 play 81 yard drive capped off by E. Torres 6 yard pass to J. Thomas to make it 7-0 after O'Connor's PAT.

Kansas came onto the field and went with their bread and butter passing attack, and marched 83 yards in 11 plays capped off at the end by their running back A. Pierson getting a critical 1st and goal at the three yard line on 3rd and 4 from the 7 yard line, and then plunging through the line the very next play making it a 7-7 tie.

After the opening drives one thing was clear, both offenses can move the ball, and it was going to be up to the defenses to step up and stop someone. In fact one stop might be enough to win this game.

D. Steele started drive #2 for Missouri with a 32 yard kickoff return. Kansas broke up the option play by Torres twice, and had Missouri in 3rd and 16 when a false start was called on a defensive lineman. Missouri took advantage with an 11 yard run by Torres for a first down, but their drive didn't go much further before Kansas forced Missouri to punt.

Kansas's second drive was unique as they started targeting Missouri's run defense. It certainly took Missouri back, as they allowed A. Pierson to thrash them for 27 yards on two plays before they locked him down, which opened up M. Cummings to air it out in the passing game before handing it off to Pierson for a 26 yard touchdown run to cap off a 10 play 76 yard drive. Kansas's scouting of Missouri was paying off as the Jayhawks took a 14-7 lead with 30 seconds left in the first quarter.

Missouri started a drive at the end of one quarter, and started marching down the field on the back of ol' reliable D. Steele. Once the Jayhawks started focusing on Steele, E. Torres threw a bullet to J. Ross for 22 yards and to cross midfield. Torres hit Steele with an pitch on an option play for 3 yards and a touchdown to cap their 11 play 80 yard drive, and tie it at 14-apiece.

Kansas opened their next drive with a long 21 yard completion to E. Anderson, but the Tigers locked down and kept the Jayhawks from a first down by forcing 4th and inches. Kansas punted the ball away for a touchdown, giving Missouri the ball at the 20 yard line with 5:41 left to play.

Kansas replied by forcing a three and out and a punt, and then exploiting Missouri with a perfect play action pass for 30 yards and moving the ball to the 38 yard line. Ben Moore, the junior safety, sacked Cummings for an 8 yard loss and then C. Jones intercepted a deep Cummins pass in the endzone and returned it 12 yards, giving Missouri the ball back on their own 8 yard line with 4:14 left in the first half, tied 14-14.

C. Jones perfectly times his jump to grab an interception to keep Kansas from taking a 21-14 lead.

Missouri marched down the field, 92 yards, in 13 plays, capped off by yet another D. Steele run, this time from 4 yards out, to make it 20-14. O'Connor hit yet another PAT, and Missouri took a 21-14 lead with 2:14 left in the first half.

Kansas tried to hurry down the field but couldn't get close enough and missed a 57 yard desperation field goal they had no right to attempt. Missouri took over in Jayhawk territory, 60 yards for the endzone with 57 seconds to work with. Missouri's own attempts at scoring failed, with 3 incomplete passes by Torres. Kansas fumbled the ball on the punt return, and E. Torres hit J. Ross with a 31 yard pass to put them into field goal range. As time ran out O'Connor put a 27 yard field goal through the uprights.

Halftime Analysis
Missouri and Kansas traded scores early, but Kansas is not getting the running plays they need now to keep Missouri honest, so the Tigers are starting to sit back and wait for the pass, knowing their up front guys will keep the running game honest.


Kansas got the ball first to start the second half, and immediately went 3 and out. The Tiger pass rush hurried Cummings, but didn't sack him until 3rd and 10, when L. Harris drilled Cummings for an 8 yard loss after Harris and Lawrence managed to get to Cummings with no blockers around.

Missouri's first drive of the second half was amazing quick and smooth, as the Tigers ran a 5 play 42 yard drive in 1:08 for a touchdown capped off by you guessed it, D. Steele, this time a little 9 yard give and go. O'Connor's kick made it 31-14, and people were starting to get restless, as the Jayhawks were not looking like the team people were projecting to win this game.

Kansas came alive the next drive as M. Cummings dumped a screen pass off to J. Smith, who then broke two tackles and outran M. Wilson in a footrace to make it 31-21 after the kick, and a 10 point ball game.

Missouri responded with their ace in the hole, D. Steele, who after Missouri went 21 yards in 7 plays ripped off a 68 yard run for a touchdown, making it 37-21 with 5:11 left in the third quarter.


Kansas refused to die though, and M. Cummings crossed 300 yards passing on the drive that ended with a nice 17 yard toss to a wide open J. Lopez for a touchdown that was reviewed. The play was picture perfect as Lopez drug his feet, and Kansas had another touchdown, and after the 12 play 80 yard drive was done Kansas had whittled the lead to 38-28.

The Jayhawks defense came up big, sacking Torres twice, and Missouri had to punt. M. Cummings was on fire, crossing 400 yards passing with a short and sweet 1 yard slant to J. Jones for his 4th touchdown pass of the game, making it 38-35 with 1:37 left in the third period.

Missouri started driving down the field, and in the middle of their drive the third quarter ended.

At the end of three quarters: #1 Missouri (10-0) 38
#2 Kansas (11-0) 35

Missouri forced their way down the field to the 20 yard line before stalling out on fourth and inches, and C O'Connor did his job with a 37 yard right on the money kick and a 41-35 lead.

Kansas forced their way down the field with an 8 play 79 yard drive capped off by A. Pierson's 12 yard run to make it 41-41. A. Mueller kicked the academic but high pressure PAT to give Kansas a 42-41 lead with 5:12 left in the game.

Missouri tried to take the lead, but Kansas's defense rose to the occasion and forced a fumble, picked it up, and had the ball on the 37 yard line. Kansas pushed hard, running a non-huddle hurry up offense trying to keep the momentum going and to take a bigger lead. Missouri's defense came up big time, with Roach nailed J. Lopez on the four yard line, stopping Lopez 2 yards short of the first down and forcing 4th and 2. A. Mueller nailed the academic straight down the middle 21 yard field goal and Kansas took a 45-41 lead, meaning Missouri needed a touchdown.

E. Torres got hit really hard on an incomplete pass, and Nick Bailey took the field to try and drive the Tigers down the field. Bailey marched the Tigers down the field, and handed it off to J. Ross for a 59 yard rumbling bumbling running touchdown that was capped by C O'Connor's PAT for a 48-45 lead with 2:37 left in the game. The drive was very short though, only 30 seconds long, allowing Kansas a shot to go for the win themselves!

Kansas hurried down the field, and stalled out at the 36 yard line. They elected to take the shot with their kicker, and A. Mueller stepped up big time with a 53 yard line drive that barely clearly the upright, forcing a 48-48 tie!

Missouri got the ball back with just over a minute left and decided to go for the win, and it was costly. Bailey was drilled, and R. Mitchell scooped up the fumble with nobody between him and the endzone for an 18 yard return for a touchdown and after the PAT a 55-48 lead.

Bailey, although rattled, came through like a true professional. The redshirt junior drove the Tigers down to a 6 yard line where on fourth and goal with 0:02 left Bailey's pass was batted down. M. Cummings kneeled down, and Kansas sent #1 Missouri home with a loss, 55-48! With the win Kansas no doubt secures the #1 position in all major polls before their bye week.

The 2014 Border War was a classic: Player and coach feelings from around the nation

Ohio State Head Coach Johnny Rock: "That game was a classic no doubt. Having coached in the last three Border Wars I can attest to the hatred in that rivalry. I hate to see Kansas win again, that was a rough was for the Tigers to lose, they were looking at overtime and the defense doesn't even get a chance to prevent that final touchdown for the Jayhawks. Luckily they get the chance we didn't last year, they can get revenge with a win in the Big XII Title game."

Texas Christian Head Coach Gary Patterson "Wow, I can't believe that game. Another classic from those two teams. I would love to get a shot at that passing attack of Kansas's though, I think our 4-2-5 would match up really well. Conference championship weekend will definitely be interesting."

Missouri Defensive Coordinator Joey Davis: "Well we definitely didn't do our job in the second half and they made us pay for it. We didn't get a chance to stop their touchdown, and that hurts, but we allowed them to score 48 points on us. Our offense only had one turnover all game, that is very impressive. We get another shot in two weeks, and we have a lot of tape to watch and planning to do."

Missouri backup QB Nick Bailey "I can't believe I fumbled the ball, I really thought my knee was down. However after looking at the video I agree the refs made the correct call. It's rough, we took the lead, I was feeling great, and then wham, we are down 55-48 because of me. Torres is a great guy, losing him for 4 weeks to a broken ankle is brutal. But it means I get a chance to redeem myself in two weeks, and you better believe I will be ready!"

Kansas QB M. Cummings "That was a great game, better than any I have ever had before. The Tigers always bring out the best in our coaching staff and players. It stinks we have to play them again in two weeks, but at least the rivalry won't be tied 57-57-9 all year, right? I think if you look at the second half you can see it won't be nearly as close in the conference championship game."

Coaches and BCS Polls and Bowl Projections

With #7 Michigan beating #5 Ohio State and #2 Kansas beating #1 Missouri there was bound to be some poll movement.

Michigan, at 10-2, with a loss to then #1 Missouri, comes in at 4th, while Missouri drops to 5th.

Kansas and Boise State are 1 and 2 respectively in the coaches poll.

BCS Bowl Projections

BCS National Championship: Kansas vs Boise State
With Kansas figuring out Missouri's defense this past weekend, and Missouri losing 4 play-makers, it's hard to see Kansas losing in two weeks. Boise State dominated Fresno State earlier this year, it's hard to see them losing either.

Orange Bowl Virginia vs Arkansas
It looks like the Orange Bowl wants Arkansas to bring their high powered offense and rabid fanbase to town. Virginia can cinch their berth with a win in the ACC Championship game.

Sugar Bowl LSU vs Middle Tennessee State
Middle Tennessee State finally broke the top 16 in the BCS, and is ahead of projected ACC Champion Virginia. LSU should easily win the SEC Title.

Rose Bowl Michigan is on a roll winning 10 straight games before facing Rutgers, and TCU gets to play California when they are reeling. Expect this to be #3 vs #4.

Fiesta Bowl Ohio State vs USF
USF looks to take the Big East Title, and Ohio State will probably be chosen from the at large pool due to their great travel and respectable 10-2 record.
