Damn laying down the law all over the country. Deacs certainly aren't having any trouble putting points up with Jenkins at the helm, he seems like a great fit for your offense. And with the defense much improved you've definitely got a lot of potential this year to go far.

This has been a VERY busy week in the polls as a lot of teams are starting to tumble. The #1 headline of the week has to be Duke's 56-7 road destruction of Stanford. The undefeated #16 Blue Devils are riding outstanding quarterback play to share a three-way lead in the ACC with undefeated UNC and #25 Wake Forest.
Other top teams to stumble include Boise State (loss to #3 Auburn 36-3), Oklahoma (Loss to ISU 36-29), Virginia Tech (Loss to Maryland 34-21), and Florida (Loss to Mississippi 34-29). There are still plenty of undefeated teams with title hopes live, but every week is a playoff game. But if multiple teams make it through the season undefeated, expect even more controversy.

I lost to Duke in the 2nd year of my NCAA 11 dynasty 36-28, so I know they got some spunkyness to them, but damn, #16???

Oh, and I'll warn you now, Duke's QB is a nightmare to stop -- especially in the no huddle.

Re: Wake Forest NCAA 12 Dynasty: Competitive Football Would be Nice!
Week 7
vs
Cakewalk Victory Costs Frosh QB & WR
The final score line will look good for those checking the box score Sunday or Monday, but fans at BB&T Field have to be worried about the Demon Deacon's second half performance in their 49-0 victory over the San Jose State Spartans. What started out as a potent offensive game despite the rain turned sour when Wake Forest lost two players to injury. The first was Freshman Wide Receiver Matt Woods. He made his first reception of the season only to be carted off the field after the tackler rolled over his knee. Initial reports say there was no break, but additional information will not be available until later in the week.
Matt Woods makes his first catch of the season for a long gain.
However, the far more pressing concern for Wake Forest was the loss of Curtis Jenkins near the end of the first half. After slicing up the Spartan defense all game with long passes, short passes, and everything in between, Jenkins was in his groove. He had guided the Deacs to 35 first half points and was well on his way to making it 42 when he was driven to the ground while attempting a pass to John Hale. Jenkins sustained an unspecified abdominal injury and had to leave the stadium for further tests. According to Coach Shapiro, the extent of Jenkins' injury should be known early in the week. However, he also admitted it could affect Jenkins' availability for next week's ACC game against Boston College.
If the first half was the Deacons on fire, the 2nd half was an entirely different story. After struggling in the running and passing game the past few weeks, Patrick Mitchell finally broke out of his funk for some big gains and big plays. Meanwhile, Freshman wide out John Hale had a breakout performance of his own. But the rub is that the entire offense morphed to 2011 form when Matt White came under center for the 2nd half. Last year's starter picked up right where he left off and struggled with his decision making. After capping off a drive Jenkins started, the Deacons would only find the end zone one more time for the game -- on a defensive touchdown.
Eventually Coach Shapiro gave the 2nd string plenty of playing time and they were able to show their stuff. The defense did not allow SJSU's first string to score any points and completed the shut out. Meanwhile, Travis Lewis was able to get some good runs in limited action to help eat up the clock and finish off the 49-0 victory.

Coach's Take: I'm glad we were able to get our second string some game time, and I'm glad that we were able to come out and execute. You don't want to see injuries -- but that's football. So far we've been pretty lucky with the injury bug, so it was bound to bite sometime. We can only hope that none of the injuries are too serious.
What's Next: Wake Forest (6-0) stays home to face off against Boston College. Unfortunately for winless San Jose State University (0-5), they travel back west to face their 2nd undefeated opponent in two weeks when they play the Nevada Wolf Pack.

Re: Wake Forest NCAA 12 Dynasty: Competitive Football Would be Nice!
Another week of football is in the books, and it has been another week of tough losses for top teams. Meanwhile, there are also some big shifts for teams that were flying well under the radar to start the season.
But to kick things off: the defending National Champions have fallen!

Ohio State loses a close game to Penn State to fall a few pegs in the rankings. The Nittany Lions show that this might be their year, traveling to Columbus and eeking out the close 34-31 victory on a last minute field goal. LSU and Oregon also dropped their first games of the season, while Iowa rises significantly up the polls on the back of a rather pedestrian 28-13 win over Indiana, while Duke shoots up the polls on its bye.
And oh how mighty Stanford has fallen. Two weeks removed from being in the top three, the Cardinal have dropped two straight to barely cling to a spot in the Top 25. As for risers? Wake Forest, Nevada, and poll newcomer Baylor probably all think they should be ranked higher with their undefeated records. Maybe next week.

The Atlantic Division has been run away with by an out-of-nowhere Wake Forest squad. And because a scheduling error gave them an extra conference game, it looks like the Demon Deacons can look forward to getting a Win Percentage tiebreaker barring some late season collapse. Meanwhile, Florida State losing 5 straight is unacceptable in Tallahassee. Someone is going to be getting run out of town -- maybe even before the season ends. Fans can understand a rebuilding year, but this was not supposed to be a rebuilding year at all. Very disappointing.

Is it basketball season already? Duke and UNC are fighting for the top spot in the division, but so far both teams have hardly started their in conference schedule. Miami seems to be getting things back on track after losing their first two games, so if either team on Tobacco Road falters they could swoop in for the Coastal crown. And finally, Virginia Tech's promising start to the season has been rattled by two straight conference losses. With the way the Coastal division is shaking out, the Hokies might have already played their way out of a shot at the ACC crown.

dude, I am going to crap my pants if Duke plays Wake Forrest for the ACC Champ. That would be an insane match-up, but very cool to see the different results. I like seeing different teams rise up. Solid win over San Jose, but it sucks you lost Jenkins and Woods. How long will these two guys be out? You at least need Jenkins back asap if you expect to keep winning. Nice to see you received a little more respect with a #20 ranking as well. Keep the momentum goin!!Virginia Tech Hokies NCAA 2011 Dynasty Thread :

ProbableGame Notes ACC Conference foes clash this week as the #5 Passing defense in the nation, Boston College, attempts to slow down the #20 Wake Forest juggernaut. So far teams have attempted to beat the Deacons by stopping their ground attack or by passing over their defense all to no avail. The opportunistic Deacons force more turnovers than anyone in the country, and they're looking to feast on the Eagles today at BB&T Field.
Although HB Patrick Mitchell had a strong game last week, he has struggled to produce against quality competition. This week could be a chance to turn it around -- but so is every week. QB Curtis Jenkins can't be expected to carry the team by himself all season. Jenkins, who is listed as probable after suffering an abdominal tear last week, is going to need some help on offense. A similar story can be said of QB Brett Morris of the Eagles. After starting off the year strong, he has struggled of late and Boston College has had to lean on HB Sebastian Bell to earn yards on the ground. That's not going to cut it against the Deacs -- at least not the 2012 edition.
The Eagles come in having won three of their past four, but don't expect success today. The Demon Deacons, who enter the game with a nearly clean injury report after last week's scares, should cruise to victory 37-14.Comment

Re: Wake Forest NCAA 12 Dynasty: Competitive Football Would be Nice!
Week 8
vs #20
Outgunned, Outclassed, but not Outscored
Last year Wake Forest traveled to Massachusetts only to be sent packing with its tail between its legs. This season? The Eagles traveled to North Carolina and delivered a similar throttling to the Demon Deacons. Their vaunted pass defense held Jenkins and co to a season low in passing. Their pass rush even caused Jenkins to re-injure his abdomen, but he stayed in the game. The Eagles were the more physical team and certainly the more aggressive team. They were effective moving the ball up and down the field, and were poised to put a bunch of points on the porous Wake defense.
All of that is well and good, but the difference in today's game was that Coach Shapiro's squad was mentally prepared. Today's ACC match-up came down to miscues and who took better advantage of them.
A Boston College defender passes off WR Brown to a non-existent safety.
The ranked Wake Forest team came in heavy favorites to today's game, but they have shown a tendency to struggle on offense when the rain stars pouring. This game was no exception, especially when Patrick Mitchell, who was having a good game on the ground, went down for the game with an injury late in the 2nd quarter. The Deacons were able to jump out to a quick lead thanks to drives that were sustained by Mitchell and capped off by two short TD passes to Senior Wide Receiver Justin Brown. But after he left the game, both offenses could either only make gains on big chunks of yards of through punting for field position.
And that's where the miscues start. Travis Lewis, Mitchell's backup, has done a decent job spelling Mitchell in the past. Lewis is more of a power back, but he also has good lateral quickness and a knack for hitting the hole hard. Unfortunately, he has also shown a tendency to not hold onto the ball. That problem was highlighted today by Lewis fumbling twice. Both were in Deacon territory, and none was more damaging than what happened on his very first carry of the 4th quarter.
Lewis had a huge hole to run through in order to help move Wake out from deep within their territory. Unfortunately, freshman TE Peters blew his blocking assignment and failed to pick up the blitzing outside linebacker. The result was that Lewis was hit hard by someone who came out of his peripheral vision. And as he was falling, the ball was slung from him and bounced right to the waiting feet of an Eagle defender. The Deacons had gone from hoping to chew up clock in the 4th quarter to only leading the Eagles by 10.
Fortunately for Lewis and the Deacon offense, Tom Huggins bailed out the entire team on the next play from scrimmage. After receiving a kickoff and seeing that there was no good blocks to follow, Huggins did what he normally does and went straight into the scrum himself. "It's what I do, sometimes you break through," said Huggins after the game, "You can't just take a knee on the 3. I went in and got hit pretty good by a guy -- but he did a Sports Center hit. The kind that looks good but doesn't do a lot. So I got spun around a little bit, but next thing you know it's just me, the kicker, and lots of green field. I've gotta look at the tape to see who kept those guys off me in the pile, but my teammates deserve just as much credit."
Coach Shapiro challenged this catch, replay clearly showed he was in bounds. "Maybe the best sideline grab I've ever seen," remarked Shaprio.
Of course, the fireworks were not finished. Boston College would continue to move the ball down the field and would not be kept down. Between a bomb to Marvin Green, a play where Green spent around 10 yards staying in bounds by millimeters, and a second fumble by Lewis that was almost returned for a score, Boston College seemed to have Wake's number in the 4th quarter.
Fortunately for Wake, their opportunistic defense came through again.
Maurice Evans and Brian Graham always find themselves near loose balls.
After the ball was punched out of a BC receiver's hands while he was trying to make his way from across the middle to the sideline, Maurice Evans was there and waiting to scoop the ball up and take it back to the house. Although Evans is not known as the fastest burner, he was faster than anyone else on the field for that play, running the ball 87 yards back to put Wake Forest ahead. Add a short Lewis TD after Boston College turned the ball over on downs, and Wake Forest can be satisfied that they avenged last year's beat down in Chestnut Hill.

Coach's Take: You can be a hard team to stop when you get a full head of steam. You don't come out of nowhere being 6 and 0. No, everyone sees you coming, and the best you can do is just charge on through and make plays. Boston College knew this team was not the same from last year, but getting up two scores on them so quick was big. It gave us the momentum we needed to win the game. Sometimes you get lucky bounces and the ball comes your way. But today, I think we made a little bit of our own luck.
What's Next: Wake Forest (7-0) travels to Clemson to take on an improved Tiger squad. As for Boston College (3-3), they will be returning home to host Virginia Tech.
