Recreating a Legacy | Indianapolis Colts (Madden 12)

Recreating a Legacy: The Indianapolis Colts Franchise

    Game: Madden NFL 12
    System: Xbox 360
    Difficulty: All-Madden
    Quarter Length: 15 Minutes
Sliders:*Update*JD's Franchise Custom All-Madden Slider Set
    Roster: Week 14 Roster Update

Hey guys. I decided to just start from scratch with a new franchise in the Colts. I'm taking a break from the Jags franchise and going along with this one. For the first season I am going to skip the pre-season and go straight in to the season. After the first season though I will go through pre-season and do cuts and all that stuff. I plan to use the players I have to work with, other than Peyton Manning of course, and I'm going to do the full 15 minute quarter experience on All-Madden with a pretty bad team haha. I won't do any free agent signings or crazy trades or nothing like that during the season, only basic trades, if anything, which are pretty much for draft picks but nothing drastic. Follow along on my journey to rebuild this team and bring them to be a top contender not just in the AFC South but in the NFL.

              The Future of Indianapolis
Indianapolis, IN -- The owner and CEO of the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Irsay, held a press conference earlier today. Here is what he had to say,
"Everyone is worried about Peyton and what not. Here it is... Peyton Manning will not play for the 2011-2012 NFL Regular Season. Instead, he will be on the sidelines assisting the quarterback coach Frank Reich. It has also come to attention that the starting quarterback for the 2011-2012 NFL Regular Season for the Colts will be Dan Orlovsky. Now for the draft situation. Everyone of you knows that defense wins championships. Everyone also knows that our defense is probably one of the worst, although I believe in the group of guys I have now. I plan to start improving our defense through the draft and this next offseason free agency. I want everyone to fear the Colts D when they see us take the field. I want all those fantasy players to sit their running back when they have to face our defense during that week. I want the Colts D to be just as feared as the 49ers D, the Steel Curtain and the Ravens D. Peyton Manning will be back next year and most likely a few years after that, so I'm not seeking a quarterback for the future just yet. I trust in Orlovsky to pull through this year and whenever we need him in the future. The future of this Indianapolis Colts franchise is coming and once we have a prominent defense every NFL team will Fear the Stampede. Thank you and that's all the time I have."
Well there's some strong words from the owner. We'll see how his plan to create a stellar D plays out in the next few years, but for now it's safe to say that they won't have much of a good season. Orlovsky is going to take center stage for the Colts learning under Peyton Manning, so it shouldn't be completely bad. Knowing that the owner wants a better defensive team, what will come of head coach Jim Caldwell? He was the former quarterbacks coach and could be fired for a more defensive minded head coach. We'll see what happens with him as well. It should be an exciting NFL season.

Brackett Gone, Angerer the Trusted Starter
Indianapolis, IN -- In a surprising turn of events, the former starting Middle Linebacker Gary Brackett has been traded to the Denver Broncos for Outside Linebacker Wesley Woodyard and a 2012 First Round Draft Pick. It looks like the owner wasn't kidding and looks to add as much as he can for a big defensive team. Woodyard will be second string to Outside Linebacker Philip Wheeler. Irsay had this to say,
"Gary was an excellent athlete and performer and he will be missed by this organization. I trust in what I have seen in Pat and he has some major upside for the future. Wesley will come in behind Wheeler and I look to see him involved in some plays this year. I'm glad I got that first round pick along with it as I will use that to my advantage. I bid farewell to Gary and hope he has a great career as a Denver Bronco."
Along with the trade, they had to release their third string Center Aram Caldwell and signed Middle Linebacker Mark Herzlich to fill in Angerer's former 2nd string spot.

                  Week 1
                  Indianapolis Colts (0-0) @ Houston Texans (0-0)

Houston, TX -- It's a beautiful day in Houston today as the sun is shining and week one of football is about to start. Orlovsky and Schaub are warming up on the field getting ready to try and take control of the AFC South early. The favorites to win it for this matchup are the Houston Texans. The Texans are now considered a Superbowl contending team to represent the AFC along with the Steelers, Ravens and Patriots. Arian Foster looks to have another spectacular season. Not only is Arian Foster a serious threat, but they have arguably the best receiver in the NFL in Andre Johnson. Also, this high powered offense can be backed up by a stellar defense. The addition of Johnathan Joseph should really boost this secondary.
Orlovsky is having his first start for the Colts today and he has some threats in his offense as well. Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, and the return of receiver Austin Collie and tight end Dallas Clark will help utilize this offense to become a high scoring offense, even without Peyton Manning. The defense, on the other hand, isn't so stellar. They do have one of the best, if not the best, defensive end unit with Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney. Other notable defensive players are cornerback Jerraud Powers and safety Antoine Bethea. Don't be surprised if there is an upset today as the Colts can pull it off.

                    Week 1 Review
Clark Shines in Colts Loss; Orlovsky, Collie Hurt
Indianapolis, IN -- It was a shootout in Houston this Sunday. Orlovsky was throwing safe until late in the second quarter he suffered a broken collarbone. Curtis Painter took over and had a good game for the most part. He threw two picks in a row after throwing a touchdown but finished with two more touchdowns to have a positive touchdown to interception ratio (3/2). Dallas Clark had a spectacular game with 9 receptions, 211 yards and 3 touchdowns. Painter and Orlovsky just kept finding him open deep over and over again. It seemed as if the Houston secondary completely ignored him and covered everyone else. Austin Collie was having a good day as well until he suffered an upper arm fracture.
Matt Schaub had an amazing day as he threw 4 touchdowns and only one pick. He also threw for over 300 yards and was 25-35 on the day. Arian Foster was close to 100 yards rushing but couldn't find the endzone. Andre Johnson was the receiving leader for them with 6 receptions, 126 yards and a touchdown.
We had a talk with Colts owner Irsay about Orlovsky and what's going to happen, he said, "Broken collarbones usually take time to heal so for the meantime Painter is our starter. He looked good out there today and if I had known he would have thrown like that he would have been today's starter. Dallas looked spectacular out there today and this organization is glad to see him back on the field. Angerer also played well and I think he will be the future of this defense. I honestly believe he's going to be the defensive captain of this team in a few years. He's really something special that no one understands yet, but they will."
Next week Indy comes back home to face the Cleveland Browns who came off a 20-15 loss to the Bengals. It will be interesting to see how Painter does against the young and talented Joe Haden. Also, for all you followers out there, how do you think Dallas Clark will do for the season? Will he keep up this momentum into the next game?

                      More Moves for the Colts
Indianapolis, IN -- It seems Irsay isn't done with collecting draft picks as this week he has traded tight end Jacob Tamme to the Kansas City Chiefs for tight end Anthony Becht and a 2012 Third Round Draft Pick. Becht was the second string behind Leonard Pope after Tony Moaeki suffered a season ending injury. Becht will now serve as the backup to tight end Dallas Clark who had a phenomenal game last week against the Texans. They also released rookie running back Darren Evans and signed quarterback Troy Smith to a one year deal. Smith will be backup behind Painter since Orlovsky is injured for the next 10 weeks. Anthony Gonzalez will take place for Austin Collie for the next 2 weeks as Austin Collie is also going to be sitting out due to an upper arm fracture.

                        Week 2

Indianapolis Colts (0-1) vs. Cleveland Browns (0-1)
Indianapolis, IN -- It's a hot one here in Indianapolis today as the Cleveland Browns come to visit. Of course Colt McCoy, Peyton Hillis and Joe Haden are the leaders of this team and soon enough they will be a threat to their division as well as both rebuilding teams face each other. Curtis Painter is getting the start as Orlovsky is injured. Troy Smith could also take over that position if Painter gets injured or has a few bad games. The Colts have gotten some nice trades in receiving a first round pick from the Denver Broncos and third round pick from the Kansas City Chiefs. Hopefully both of them end up on the bad end of the standings so Indy can get some good picks.
The Colts are coming off a loss to the Texans which ended up being a high scoring game. The Browns were opposite as they only scored 15 points in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Two teams with losses from their own division both looking to rebuild and become a feared threat to their division and to the NFL. This should be a good one.

                          Week 2 Review
Indianapolis, IN -- What a showing by the Colts today. Curtis Painter proved he's going to be this year's starter even when Orlovsky gets back because he had a great game. Dallas Clark did it again and had another spectacular game. Now I get why Irsay traded away Tamme for a free pick. Painter threw 2 touchdowns and only one pick that looked almost impossible to pick off, but somehow D'Qwell Jackson picked Painter off in the endzone with a one handed catch that was bulleted right over him. The Browns put up a fight in the first half but lost it in the second as the Colts took control from the start. Addai had over 100 yards rushing for the day, but no touchdown. On the flip side, both Painter and Donald Brown each had a rushing touchdown. Painter is becoming a better quarterback under Manning as he is able to move around a little bit to create more room for himself and his receivers.
The Browns tried everything they could and despite Hillis rushing for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns, the Browns just could not hold it together. Colt McCoy wasn't able to throw a touchdown the entire game, then again he didn't throw a pick either. The Colts defense just looked like it was shutting down the passing game.
It was a great win for the Colts. This might have just been an easy test though, as the Steelers are coming into town to prove that they are the real Superbowl contending team. It should be a good one as this will be Curtis Painter's true test.

I am having some terrible luck making these franchises guys. I got a new xbox and it won't let me transfer my saves to the new one so I'm stuck with no saves. I would like to start another one but I'm afraid everyone that follows me just won't get into it because something might happen to my chise. I plan to use the Patriots for my next one if I do another one (I know it's a good team and all but I think it will be fun.) I got NBA 2K12 so I might start one up for that. Let me know who you guys think I should go with. I want to do a different team I haven't done yet and stick with it. Let me know for NBA 2K or Madden. I'll do one for each game. So don't say Colts, Jags, or Giants.
