    2012: Game 6

    42 @ 7

    Pick City!
Rutgers QB Nova throws 8 INT

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -- Holy cow. Wow. These were the words coming out of Connecticut head coach Paul Pasqualoni's mouth when asked about the play of his defense. The Huskies were able to intercept Rutgers' sophomore QB Gary Nova a whopping eight times -- yeah, you read that right. EIGHT TIMES!

In fact, the Connecticut record for most interceptions by a single player was broken by senior CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson, who was able to tally 4 interceptions. As Wreh-Wilson said, "it was like I was a magnet. Every time I looked up, the ball was coming my way."

After getting down by a handful of touchdowns early, the Scarlet Knights basically eliminated their running game. It didn't help that Rutgers' starting running back, Savon Huggins, slipped a disk in his back during the game (expected to miss rest of season), but to virtually eliminate one element was a shock. Rutgers finished the game by passing on 33 straight downs. 33 straight! Not likely to win a Big East football game like that...

Connecticut improves their storybook season to a 6-0 record. Rutgers falls to 2-3 on the season. Connecticut will head back home to prepare for a visit from the Temple Owls. It will be the first time the two teams have met when both have been a part of the Big East Conference.

Wreh-Wilson Named Big East, NCAA Defensive POTW

        Wreh-Wilson: BE, NCAA Defensive POTW

STORRS, ct -- What a great season the Connecticut Huskies have had so far. After Saturday night's 42-7 victory over Rutgers, senior CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson said that it looked like "everything is coming together". Well, Blidi has been rewarded for all his hard work over the past couple of weeks. With his 4 INT performance on Saturday, Blidi has been named not only the Big East Defensive Player of the Week, but also the NCAA Defensive Player of the Week. It is the third Big East Defensive POTW honor for the Huskies, but just the first NCAA honor.

          Pasqualoni Signs CB Gallagher

STORRS, ct -- The Huskies have signed their fourth commit of the Class of 2013, as 3-star prospect Jason Gallagher has committed. Gallagher, a native of Washington, DC, chose the Huskies over the Miami Hurricanes. Cited by Gallagher as one of the main reasons for his decision was the desire to make an instant impact on the field. It will figure as though Gallagher will get his fair share of the plays, as both starting cornerbacks -- Dwayne Gratz and Blidi Wreh-Wilson -- are scheduled to graduate in May.

Here's a look at the list of recruits signed for the Class of 2013:

              Hoot Hoot for CT
Win over Owls gives Connecticut best season start

EAST HARTFORD, ct -- Another game, another win for the mighty Connecticut Huskies. In their second Big East game of the season, the Huskies defeated the Temple Owls by a score of 21 to 7. The Huskies were able to use their running game to their advantage, as they controlled the clock much of the game.

Redshirt senior running back DJ Shoemate found the end zone twice in the game. However, the score wasn't as lopsided as it looks. The game was actually quite close. What killed Temple was untimely turnovers. It seemed like Temple would be able to drive the ball well on UConn, only to throw an interception or have a fumble in or near the red zone.

Coach Paul Pasqualoni noted that many things can be improved on, but when you get into the Big East schedule, "hey, a win's a win". Hopefully the Huskies can improve to 8-0 next week as they head to Syracuse to take on the rival Orange.

TE Harrison, T Williams Commit to Connecticut

STORRS, ct -- Add two more 3-star recruits to Paul Pasqualoni's Class of 2013! Tight end Lionel Harrison and tackle Charlie Williams each committed to the Connecticut program following their visit to Rentschler Field on Saturday.

Harrison, the 18th ranked tight end in the nation, figures to become a key force for the Huskies. He tends towards blocking, which will certainly be big for Connecticut's ground-first offense. He will certainly get a chance to start next season, as both John Delahunt and Ryan Griffin will be graduating this year.

Williams is the 96th ranked tackle in the nation. He will help to balance out the Connecticut offensive line with his pass blocking ability. Hopefully the increased pass protection will allow Connecticut quarterbacks to have more time in the pocket to find the open receiver down the field.

                    Heartbreak City
Connecticut's undefeated season comes to an end

SYRACUSE, ny -- Well, these are the games that were expected for the Connecticut Huskies coming into the season. As even coach Paul Pasqualoni stated, it looked like the Huskies were playing way above their potential through the first seven games, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Whelp, the Huskies have fallen back to earth with their game against the Syracuse Orange.

The Huskies and the Orange went neck and neck the entire game, with no one seemingly able to grab a distinct advantage. In the end, it was the Orange who came out on top, on the leg of kicker Ross Krautman. Krautman lined up a 50-yard field goal in the waning seconds of the 4th, and was able to split the uprights. Connecticut didn't give up though, as they were able to drive down the field to try a 44-yard field goal to tie the game. However, Connecticut kicker Chad Christen didn't have enough leg in it, as it fell just short of the crossbar, sealing the Huskies' first loss of the season.

Connecticut falls to 7-1 on the season, and will most surely drop out of the Top 25. The Huskies will have a bye week next week and will head to Tampa Bay to take on South Florida the week after.

                        Huskies Net 3 More Recruits

STORRS, ct -- Add three more recruits to Paul Pasqualoni's Class of 2013! All three players - Marcus Randle, Ike Carter, and Robert Rivers - play the same position: defensive end. The three new recruits join previously committed Spencer Adams as defensive ends signed.

While the Huskies needed at least 2 defensive ends to join the squad for next year, Pasqualoni commented that "it can't hurt" to sign more than 2. Randle even commented that the fact that there's more than one guy for the same position will help him "excel at a higher level" because "that's what it'll take to start". Pasqualoni and the rest of the Connecticut coaching staff hopes that the four recruits will be engaged in healthy competition for the span of their college careers.

STORRS, ct -- The Connecticut Huskies have signed their 10th recruit for the Class of 2013 - defensive tackle Anthony Thompson. The addition of Thompson gives Paul Pasqualoni his tenth 3-star recruit, good enough for a Top 25 recruiting class. Thompson, a 6'1", 294 pound defensive tackle, is the 5th defensive line player to be signed by Connecticut thus far. It is unsure whether Thompson will get a shot to win a starting spot for next fall.

Huskies drop second straight; Lose to 2-7 USF

TAMPA BAY, fl -- The Connecticut Huskies' 7-0 start seems miles away at the moment. With a 24-14 loss at the hands of lowly South Florida, the Huskies have fallen to 7-2 on the season. Head coach Paul Pasqualoni commented that he didn't think his team "had any heart" in the game. The Huskies came out flat, not scoring in the first three quarters.

The Huskies were able to make a game out of it in the 4th quarter, and multiple times pulled within 3 points of a tie. But in the end, South Florida's running game was too much to handle. Both South Florida's running back and quarterback were threats on the ground, each picking up over 80 yards each. The Huskies just had no idea what play was going to be run, let alone how to stop it.

Connecticut will try to rebound next week against the Pittsburgh Panthers. Pitt comes into the game with a record of 4-5, 1-3 in Big East action.
