Then stick with Pryor until you can build the offense better.

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

That's what I'll probably do, or keep looking for decently mobile guys who might have more AWR (that's the main reason I want Giles - his AWR is 79 vs Pryor's 64) in the draft.

Besides, RG3 has just 2 years left - and he might walk.

I hope Suh walks. I'd be all over him with my supposed $80 M free in cap space.

If I can get Caulder and Grant going...that would help a LOT. We would have the mother of all run games with Caulder + Grant + Reece being a FB who's a 2-way threat.

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

        Run Game Give Raiders Win
Offense thrives thanks to Grant and Caulder,
as duo scores 4 TDs combined in 43-28 Win.

The Raiders were determined to go into the game getting the run game going, and they did. Initially, it was Grant doing most of the damage, working both inside and outside and mixing it up with an initially sharp Pryor to move the ball. Grant picked up the first TD on a screen pass where he outran the defensive linemen to the corner of the end zone. He would then add a rushing TD later in the game.

Caulder's work was most effective later in the game. He had the most carries but many were the short 2-4 yard carries that still delivered some punishment. Eventually, the Chargers front seven couldn't keep up for the most part and Caulder broke a long run in the 4th quarter for the second of his two rushing TDs.

The defense was better this time. They gave up some scores, but picked up seven sacks on Rivers and held him to around a 50% completion percentage.

Robert Meachem was the biggest threat for much of the game, picking up over 100 yards receiving. Then Antonio Gates started getting going when the game started getting strange.

A lot of it had to do with the Chargers recovering two onside kicks in the 4th quarter. The ball just bounced of the chest of Raiders return team members right to the Chargers both times. The first recovery led to a TD. The next led to an interception by FS Archie Bracey.

Rivers ended up over 300 yards, second week in a row the secondary has let up that much yardage, to go with 3 TDs. Pryor threw an interception, but had 2 TDs to go with 218 yards.

Caulder and Grant combined for 246 yards on the ground and 3 rushing TDs. Both backs ran for 6 yards per carry.

Moore, McCants and Ware all contributed in the passing game, though not for a lot of yards given the focus on the run game. McCants picked up his first career TD. It was a good sign, though, that each receiver found a way to get open and help the offense.

The hybrid defense got pressure from several angles with Worilds picking up 3 sacks and Burris grabbing 2 more. Fred Marshall got his first sack of his career.

"Some wild games, these first two, " Carillon smiled, "I don't know if I can take much more of these crazy swinging games like this!"

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

Raiders took care of some contracts before this week's game.

          -WR Denarius Moore: 5 yrs, $35.5 M
          -C Stefen Wisniewski: 4 yrs, $23.0 M
          -P Shane Lechler: 1 yr, $3.84 M

Reports indicate that Rolando McClain was also given an offer, but no word back from the player or his agent on if the contract was accepted.

In scouting news, some prospects are starting to rise up the team's draft board.

CB Correy Fanning, currently a 2nd round projection, is the team's top interest on the board so far. He looks to combine excellent speed with a good burst and reasonable flexibility and change of direction skills. His coverage technique is solid in man coverage, a bit weaker in zone. He has good eyes for the football for a college kid.

SS Spencer Hood, also a 2nd round projection, has excellent speed and is more of a coverage type safety. He is comfortable in zone and is able to read what's happening in front of him. He keeps his mind in the game on most plays. Not much of a powerful tackler, though, looking average on game tape.

QB Keon Wilson is flying under the radar at a 7th round projection. Team scouts think he has enough mobility to get out of trouble and has the mechanics to make him an accurate passer in the future, given his good base now. Not much time has been spent going over his tape just yet, but the early look has the team intrigued.

Another QB, Reshard Watson, is getting a little more attention as he's considered a 2nd/3rd round projection at this point. Like Wilson, he's got enough legs to get out of harm's way and pick up some yards on the scramble, especially if left alone, but the knock so far is his accuracy. His delivery is a little slow, causing him to be a step late on throws in coverage and his motion is inconsistent. He needs to develop a more repeatable motion so that his balls can come from the same launch point, helping his receivers pick it up quickly.

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

              Raiders Romp
              Defense Sets Tone, Harass Skelton
              All Day, Win 33-0

The Broncos came out trying to attack the Raiders deep, and the secondary rose up to the challenge. They grabbed 3 INTs in the first half. Branch and Bracey grabbed INTs and Paris Cooper picked up the 3rd one (all three were on throws to Heyward-Bey...hmm...).

Other than that, the pass rush got after Skelton, picking up 5 sacks. Worilds may have found his niche while Houston came up with a sacks as well.

The fourth turnover came after a Sergio Kindle hit on special teams knocked the ball loose and rookie Fred Marshall jumped on it for the recovery. Marshall fumbled it once himself, and the Broncos recovered. That was the only time they reached anything resembling scoring range, and they missed the 59-yard field goal.

Steven Grant ran well and nearly had 2 rushing TDs, but he got hurt on a hit just as he was about to cross the goal line and that caused him to fumble. Broncos recovered. Caulder also fumbled, but the ball did go far and he was able to grab it while still on the ground. Caulder had a rough day, picking up just 3.4 yards per carry.

Denarius Moore left the game with an injury, but the rookie WR, along with TE Moeaki, stepped up in this one. McCants in particular is showing himself to be a very reliable WR, showing no fear and secure hands. He picked up 89 yards on the day. Moeaki picked up a TD pass and 65 yards while Jacoby Ford caught one ball, a 51-yd catch and run for a score.

The offense, with the aid of the turnovers and a patient running attack, held the ball for 45 minutes, giving the defense little to do. It also let them attack all game long at nearly full strength, and it showed in the results.

Some real interesting stuff going on with the contract negotiations around the league. Could be in store for a heck of a free agent class.

                    Pathetic Showing by Offense Wastes
                    Tremendous Defensive Effort, Lose 12-9

"I don't know what that was out there today. I've seen this team struggle offensively, but I don't have an words for that **** we put out there. It was atrocious, inexcusable, and I am embarrassed for this football team right now, " coach Lyle spoke.

The defense did its thing. They were flying around, hitting ball carries, clamping down on the Bills offense, forcing Fitzpatrick to be content with short throws that had little room after the completion. McClain lead the way, as usual, with 15 tackles, a sack and two forced fumbles. Archie Bracey showed his big hitting with a forced fumble on a Ryan Fitzpatrick designed run.

Unfortunately, Pryor threw 4 INTs, a couple of which were just terrible passes, but he was also betrayed by his receivers. Had those drops been completions, he would have been 21 for 32 on the day. Instead, he went 5 for 32, a measly 13% completion rate.

Pryor didn't have an comments when asked why he felt his team let him down. Reece, trying to defuse the situation, commented, "They are rookies. Rookies make mistakes, they get shell-shocked sometimes."

McCants' play was especially disappointing. After looking like the team finally got at least one more good wide out, McCants drops 8 passes.

"He kept coming back to me and kept counting me to make some plays, but...I don't know. I don't know what happened," McCants spoke.

The loss puts the Raiders at .500 in what has been a strange up-and-down start for the team. They have to face the Broncos next week.

                    Notes:
The Raiders cleared a spot on the roster by releasing MLB Mike Stupar...but have not filled it..***mors are that a trade might be brewing to bring QB Tim Maggitt from KC as they are content with Matt Cassell and are interested in moving the rookie QB...A curious comment from Rolando McClain was overheard, "They better be glad I signed that contract BEFORE this game."...Tanner Bailey was given the start at outside linebacker this week. Worilds comes in during pass rush situations and special teams...Bailey was also removed from the team's trading block...

                        Midweek News

Raiders signed Randal Cobb off the waiver wire today, giving the young receiver a 1-year, $750 K contract. Cobb is expected to be the #3 WR, working from the slot. Ford is #4. Bonus for the team is that he came with nearly 11,000 XP.

The move confounded the pundits that were quick to blame Pryor for the drops last week.

The team also released RT Pat McQuistan to make room for HB Steven Ridley. Uncertain what exactly the team will do with Ridley, but if nothing else, he's excellent depth should something happen to Caulder or Grant.

                        Contracts

Get your debate caps on because it's time for Terrelle Pryor's contract negotiation. Right now, the former Ohio State phenom is not making his case very well. It is unlikely that he'll be a hot commodity come the offseason as well.

Taiwan Jones is another polarizing figure. Some think he's been given the shaft by the team, while others think he's dug his own grave with his excessive fumbling.

Tommy Kelly brings up something interesting as well, considering the team is running a lot of 3-man fronts, is there a place for Kelly? Wilfork's surprise availability didn't help Kelly any either. What does help, however, is the seeming rarity of true 3-4 defensive ends. While Kelly is a tackle himself, he is going to get a shot a DE in this week's game to see if he can do a better job than Shaughnessy. If he does, the team could very well extend the veteran.

                        Scouting

LT Wade Gaspar is grabbing all the press and is current projected as 1st overall pick, but the Raiders are looking to lesser-known LT Ciante Price from Virginia Tech. Price is a strong kid and has solid blocking technique. While projected as a late second rounder, the Raiders could grab him in the 1st round.

RT Doron Sanders is also an unknown-by-many prospect from Northwood College. He is somewhat undersized, just 291 pounds, but he gets good leverage that lets him play bigger than his size.

Both Sanders and Price are noted by their respective coaches for having football minds.

The team has started evaluating QB Eric Rancour, but the highly touted Washington QB is in the discussion for being in the top 3 picks of the draft. Unless the Raiders are able (and willing) to trade up to get him, he might be out of reach. QB Reshard Watson (Cincinnati) has good field awareness and decent mobility, but his accuracy is a bit of a question mark.

Grambling State QB Keon Wilson is considered a project at best, and now the team sees why. His awareness is considered to be really poor in most facets. That lack of mental focus undermines what could be a solid skill set. The team wouldn't mind taking him if he's still around late in the draft, but that might be as far as they'd consider him.

The only corner on the board that intrigues the team thus far is Correy Fanning from Ole Miss. Fanning has excellent speed and quickness, and he features some pretty decent skills at man coverage. He has a pretty good nose for the football, especially in a young defender, and can interpret what's happening around him.

"Just keep playing. That's what I was telling the guys. They were starting to get down, I was starting to get down, we were wounded from injuries. But I just told them. I'm fighting until they cart me off this field or the refs say 'Game Over'. Fight with me, " Pryor spoke after the game.

A lot of things can be said about what Pryor can't do, but, yet again, he shows why he gets so much rope from the coaching staff. Down by 14 and looking like they had no momentum at all as the pass rush was unrelenting from Dumervil and his mates, Pryor found some plays on the field and starting making his team believe.

It got started with Moeaki starting something down the field, beating the Broncos on a blitz. That seemed to give the team confidence. Stevan Ridley, coming in for the injured Julio Caulder, starting finding some room now that the pass was a threat. Steven Grant also starting getting into a bit of a groove.

Then Moeaki found an opening matched up against Von Miller. He beat the linebacker handily and Pryor hit him in stride to get the Raiders to within a score. The two point conversion failed, however.

The Raiders attempted an onside kick, but could not come up with it. Lyle implored his defense to not give up. The Broncos were doing what they could to keep McClain from being a force all second half long, but they forgot about "Mr. Turnover" Tyvon Branch. Moreno sprinted to the outside, looking to pick up the first down, but Branch popped him with a hit and Tommy Kelly, hustling his veteran butt down the field, pounced on the football. The Raiders got the chance they needed.

" 'A chip and a chair' as they say in poker. That's what we got thanks to Tyvon, " Steven Grant commented.

The Raiders would have to go 'all-in' on Pryor and the deep pass. A dangerous proposition for several reasons. However, a new face stepped up: Randall Cobb.

The waiver wire pick up started slashing across the defense, grabbing passes and moving the ball deep down field. Tony Moeaki joined in and McCants picked up a catch as well. Lyle used his timeouts deftly and was not scared to attack the middle of the field.

Pryor worked the offense into the red zone, and looked for room. With 2 timeouts in his pocket, Pryor took a shorter throw to Moeaki to make it 1st and goal. On 1st and goal, Von Miller rushed the passer, forcing a hurried throw, but it flew out of the back of the end zone as Pryor didn't want to force it.

On 2nd and goal, Pryor found Randal Cobb along the back of the end zone and a perfect pass hit him for the go-ahead score. The play was confirmed by the booth and the Raiders again tried for two. This attempt also failed, but the Raiders accomplished what they wanted, grabbing the lead - and, as a bonus, used up most of the time on the clock, putting Skelton in a horrible position.

The kick coverage team helped by stopping the Broncos inside the 20 yard line. Three incomplete passes later, the Raiders celebrated their win.

"It was murder not being able to go out there, seeing my quarterback struggle like that, but nice to see the guys keep on working and pulling it out, " Denarius Moore spoke.

The excitement over the great win was tempered by thoughts of the injured players and what their statuses would be. Still, though, the Raiders swept a divisional rival and pulled even with them at 3-2.
