Re: The Career of J.D. Clark (NCAA 14)

    .... NOPE

I'm truly amazed that some of the game modders have figured out a way to work in the playoffs. They are awesome, as they help people to draw out more realism from the game than they otherwise might have.

But it's not for me. It seems a bit time consuming for one, especially since I'm already pretty busy and generally am pretty dense when it comes to things like this. I learn things very thoroughly but it takes me awhile to do so. so the first 3-4 times I would be staring at the screen doing a back and forth quadruple check for each change and it would take me two hours to set the crap up, I just know it. On the other hand, the real issue here is I just don't care about it that much.

I never had that much of a problem with the old system; never minded all the discussion about who got screwed. It's what made college football great, and the fact that the regular season matters so much is another thing that makes the game great... Even with the 4-team playoff. This 4-team thing is the ideal setup, but instead it will undoubtedly lead to bracket creep, then an 8-team playoff and so on and so forth. It's ridiculous that this year, Oregon and Ohio State will each play 15 games. Another round and you're talking about professional football schedules. That's just plain dumb, any playoff should have resulted in 1 fewer season game for all teams, but we all know that greed rules the day.

I don't care enough to work the playoff in. I've always viewed dynasty mode as a complete escape from reality once that first sim to second week button is pressed, so I'm going to stick with the BCS.

Other quick note: I cannot hack reporting my MLB as a multiple award winner every year unless he really had the best year that year. So my reporting will essentially be my selection of award winner, although I obviously cannot avoid the perks that might go with winning it. This will often times apply to safeties that make a lot of tackles, although this year that didn't happen.

Good luck in the bowl game, ratings wise it looks like Ohio has the upper hand but if the offense comes to play and the defense gets a couple stops there's a 8-win season in the books!

well in the end, just keeping the game close and letting the cpu do its mistake thang ended up working for us, but it was very close. If it was on the road instead of neutral ground I think we would have lost.

Thanks man, the difference between 7-6 and 8-5 is probably a prestige point. Maybe, maybe not but I didn't want to take any chances as I gained nothing after year 1. We were still a 1-star this year.

2014/2015:The Vandals were a resounding success by most accounts in their first season in the Mountain West. Although the defense rated 3rd worst in the country, it was still significantly better than it was the previous season, when they finished dead last. The season began in Gainesville, FL as the Vandals were surprisingly competitive in a 22-32 loss to SEC powerhouse Florida. Blessed with a strong home-oriented early season portion of the schedule, the Vandals went on to win six of their next seven games and seven of their next nine as they built a 6-1 home record on the season. They hammered South Alabama 62-37 and upset co-newcomers BYU 49-42 at home before going on the road and getting torn up to the tune of 358 rushing yards by Brett Smith and the Wyoming Cowboys, 41-10. The next three games were played at home and included a 42-13 win against Idaho State for Homecoming before the Vandals ambushed Boise State 35-28 on Ag Days week behind a nearly perfect game from Chad Chalich. The Vandals followed that game up with a 27-24 win, also at home, against UNLV before winning their only road game of the season against San Jose State, 34-30. Four wins in a row was unprecedented in recent Idaho football memory but the fun wouldn't last as they had a rude awakening in Moscow in a 17-38 loss to Nevada and eventual Heisman Trophy winner Cody Fajardo, who threw for 322 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions, and tacked on 51 ground yards and another score. After winning their final home game of the season on Dad's Weekend against San Diego State thanks to a big game by Dezmon Epps, the team hit a major speed bump in getting blown out in their final two games of the season at Hawai'i (31-37) and at Fresno State (31-58) as the defense collapsed. After a 7-5 regular season the team was invited to play in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl, which was won in comeback fashion against Ohio. 24-20 in one of the most exciting games of the season. The win gave Coach Clark an 8-5 record in year two and a winning record overall as the Idaho Coach, which is not easy to accomplish. JUCO transfer Dan Wilcox was named team MVP on the strength of 109 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks as well as a pair of interceptions and a pair of forced fumbles. Epps was named Offensive MVP with 69 receptions, 1,073 yards, 11 TD, and Kristoffer Olugbode was named most inspirational player after his hard work in the offseason resulted in being named the most improved player on offense and the starter at running back. Olugbode fought through a litany of injuries and led the team with 793 yards rushing and 8 touchdowns.

Thanks a lot for checking it out, djp. W/ my schedule it's pretty spotty when I can get in and a lot of it is done in pieces like maybe a half hour to type up a box score, half hour to put a report together, and games usually take all night... If it doesn't seem as disjointed as it sometimes feels that makes me happy. Glad I could help with the NCAA itch lol.

Thank you kindly, I spied on a bit of your MLB dynasty today and I like it... How does basic dynasty reporting compare to video reporting? more time to edit than create posts? Or less? Just curious. I always wanted a PS3 to play the 2k games, maybe now that i've decided I'm probably gonna pass on the "next gen" systems, now is the time to get one because the game looks great.

Re: The Career of J.D. Clark (NCAA 14)

Idaho signed 19 players, and is listed with the #83 class in the nation. As indicated previously within the dynasty, there were times that I couldn't find any 2-star players at a position to put on my board so i decided to open up a certain percentage at the lower end of the 3-star group. This was because on its face the 2-star group was just too small. Take the 2015 class for example: 36 5-star guys or 1.3% ; 271 4-stars or 10.0% ; 1,195 3-stars or 44.1% ; 309 2-star guys or 11.4% ; 899 1-star or 33.2%. hold up, that really sucks for a guy that wants his team to be built around 2-star guys. I noticed that the lower end of the 3-star group was generally about as talented as the 2-stars, or maybe only slightly more, so I decided to expand the "2-star" group that I was allowed to recruit. I still reported them as 3-stars in the recent class but I just expanded what I was allowed to go after.

The way I went about doing this last year was to lump the 3-star and 2-star together and see how many there were. For 2015, this is 1,504. In the actual class size, the 309 2-star guys are 21% of that lump. so I looked at figures ranging from 40-50% of the lump and settled on 40% last year. This year I'm going with 35%. The cut mark is player 978. He's a 3-star in my world, whereas 979 is a 2-star. For my own reference later, the following positional starting points are players I can go after without a listed exemption in my recruiting rules:

                                QB #45 / HB#82 / TE#53 / WR#168 / T#59 / G#54 / C#35
                                DE#105 / DT#69 / OLB#62 / MLB#62 / CB#79 / FS#28 / SS#17 (kickers/punters and fullbacks for now are ineligible)

Another thing I'm doing is once per year I can take an existing player, change his position, and re-roll his awareness randomly from 40 to 79. To simulate that sometimes players take to a new position, it doesn't always kill their intelligence moving. I don't like how most every player on the roster comes on with 40-50 range AWR. And with my custom improvement limiting my team's development more than cpu teams, it will be a nice boost to occasionally move a guy and see him improve. This year that player will be OLB Joshua James... He is somewhat named after a good friend who made and sent me this artwork that reminds me of home. Looks small here but is pretty big.

Sorry for the tangents. On to the signings.

                                Notable Signings

QB Eric Lawson - Any discussion of our class begins with Lawson. The 6'4, 224 lb freshman signal caller from Anacortes has an upper echelon arm. (93/87). He doesn't have much if any athleticism. Chad Chalich must improve significantly (was rated 80 last year) in order to hold Lawson off. Practice time will also be a big determining factor, we will get reps for both and determine who is best suited to run the team. With talented freshmen, Coach Clark belives in putting them out there unless you're talking upper tier program that just keeps reloading. A team like Idaho should rarely take a chance that a player of Lawson's caliber gets pissed and transfers.

JUCO HB Keolu "Bully" Filoteo - 6-0, 238 - Much like "Ha Ha" Clinton Dix, he goes by his childhood nickname, although in his case his nickname was given to him because it was the antithesis of his personality. Kind of like Skyrim and Grelod the Kind. Off the field, this kid is as nice as they come. He scouted as a mid-60's overall because scouts thought he would play outside linebacker and knew he coudldn't get off blocks. Despite his awesome tackling and hitting ability, he was never viewed as a defender by Idaho coaches who saw his incredible toughness running the ball and willingness to block. He will play a lot for us. Would have been a 76 HB or 72 FB. He isn't fast at all, but has solid speed for a fullback and is simply brutal to tackle. He can run you over, stiff arm you to the next county, or spin around you. Can also catch out of the backfield. He will spend time at fullback alongside tailback Richard Montgomery, and will see his share of time at halfback as well. Will be nice to have a back who can pick up blocks when we have to throw it.

JUCO TE Vincent Church - 6'7, 260 - A gigantic tight end with adequate speed and hands who will be head and shoulders better than our next best option at tight end. JC transfers like this kid are what can fuel a program like ours until we're capable of recruiting the freshmen we need. Although we try and limit them to 3 or (max) 4 a year, they're essential.

CB John Fenner - 6-1, 186 - Very solid coverage corner who will be easily the best athlete at that position if he doesn't redshirt this year. It seems unlikely that he would given that he looks like a solid option on a team that has so few athletes in the secondary. He is equally proficient at man and zone coverage. Second best vert on the team and one of the top three fastest players on the team along with Youmani Jones (freshman in this class) and Junior WR Beau Warren.

ATH (Free Safety) Duane Howe - 6-2, 193 - Howe is an athlete with a lot of possibilities. He was considered at cornerback, free safety, and quarterback where his arm is pretty comparable to other QB's on the team other than Lawson, except he has excellent speed. In the end we just needed him at free safety too bad. He's the one talented youngster that is likely to redshirt, as long as seniro Jordan Grabski doesn't get hurt or Howe doesn't just outplay Grabski in camp.
