A great ending to the season and the the careers of Filoteo and Chalich. It is going to be see so many faces departing, especially Filoteo. Five touchdowns....what an encore. As a power run man myself, he was near and dear to me. I am excited though to see what you do in the coming offseason to reload. That was a sweet picture of Deon Watson by the way.

Sorry to see my Hokies get massacred in their bowl game.

Geez...I stop checking in for 4 days and you've already crushed through the season.

Tough loss versus Fresno, but it was one of those "good losses" in terms of reporting. I don't know about you, but I like getting blown out from time to time. That 62-39 loss reminds me of the 62-27 loss I had versus Arkansas in my Tulane dynasty a season ago. For this one game, the CPU was big brother and there was just nothing you could do about it.

Likewise blowouts are fun, so are walk-off field goals. Amazing final minute versus San Jose St. Filoteo is just a man amongst boys out there.

I liked the move to Chalich. You guys needed that spark and he delivered a solid performance in his first game versus Hawai'i. Really love the close games. It's a shame you guys missed out on the conference title, but that's what keeps us coming back.

Not a whole lot to say about the bowl game. You guys handled your business against a bad opponent and Filoteo capped off his career in style. You're losing a ton of firepower to graduation; quite honestly I didn't even realize you had so many highly rated good players on your roster.

Looking forward to the off-season brother!

Great picture of the Bully carrying and being chased by defenders there in the bowl game and a fantastic way to end his career with the 5 TDs in an easy win.

I know it was only because you didn't play in the MWC Championship, but you improved your winning percentage yet again and after two straight 10 win seasons, I'm sure you'll have a few more recruits interested in coming to Moscow.

Gotta ask - what do you think is going to happen this offseason? Is Coach Clark going to continue building at Idaho or see what happens in the coaching carousel? I'm sure you'll get a few offers.

Another strong season Helli. Of course your guys slipped a little toward the end, but even though a few key guys are gone next year in Bully, Chalich and Watson, I think you can contend for the MWC crown with most of the defense back.

I really enjoyed the two years with Filoteo running. I respect the hell out of NCAA 14 that you can have success with an 81 speed RB. He was quick in and around the hole and although the speed wasn't great, he had some really good power. Here's a couple of runs from that Temple game, gotta skip to like 20 sec. I have no idea what happened.

Yeah I have been pushing to get to the end of this season, it's taken quite awhile.

I felt like it was right with Lawson having a bad game plus it truly helped the run game by having him in there picking up 50 instead of Lawson's -20. That's a net 70 lol. I kept thinking Fresno would blow it, but they didn't. They had a WR with something like 1800 yards and 26 touchdowns, not get a sniff at the Heisman.

In regards to the highly rated players, as you probably know I do a custom improvement. I like that some of the players can actually go down, I think that Rehkow was around an 87 or 89 and graduated an 88. Chalich did improve like 3.6 OVR per cycle which is about average.

Deon Watson is an example of what I love about the system, I had no idea he would be that good, I think he was around 65 to 68 OVR when he started.

Church was a beast mode 3-star JUCO and had a solid one eyar of improvement. Parrish was a transfer so had like 5 improvement cycles.

              Thanks man

I'm really not sure. Coach Clark has a wandering eye but a loyal heart. kind of like his grandson, LMAO. There are certain teams that would be really hard to turn down. I don't have any set plans as to when and where I might try to make a move, I'll just go through and play it one offer at a time.

Thanks Guru.... Yeah we need some good improvement and some of the newcomers are definite upgrades. We have an OLB who is an instastarter, and a CB who likely will be as well. Assuming some of the existing guys have a good offseason I foresee some improvement as the linebackers HOPEFULLY are not as gawdawful.

Re: The Coaching Career of J.D. Clark (NCAA 14)

2016/2017: the 2016 Idaho Vandals won 10 games for the second year in a row. Kent State visited Moscow to start the season and were beaten handily, 40-21 on the same week a randy announcer's comments made Sarah Pellier an overnight sensation in the Palouse. The team had a bye week before traveling to Albuquerque, New Mexico and taking down New Mexico, 42-14 with Eric Lawson throwing for 353 yards and 2 TD, including 101 yards to walk-on wide receiver Terrance Carstens who would have a great first season with the team. Then it was back to the Kibbie Dome, where in a game that was much closer than the score would indicate, the team took down UNLV by the score of 42-21 when Youmani Jones had a 90-yard kickoff return near the end of the third quarter, which spurred the team to 21 fourth quarter points. The team traveled to Fort Worth where they were supposed to be fodder for the TCU machine, but stunned 0-3 Horned Frogs with a fourth loss. In week 6 "The Squad" dominated Utah State 43-8, but things took a turn for the worse for the defense when John Fenner injured his leg and missed the next couple of games. After their second bye week, the team traveled to Pasadena and lost in triple overtime to the UCLA Bruins 52-60 while allowing Jerry Neuheisel to pitch a near perfect game and allowing 580 yards of total offense. Boise State traveled to the Kibbie dome and backup QB Nick Patti were too much for the Vandals, handing the team a 27-31 loss. The team bounced back from the consecutive losses with wins against San Diego State and Nevada, but were hammered by Fresno State on the road by the final score of 39-62. Zack Greenlee won the Mountain West conference offensive player of the game award for the third week in a row. During the three-week streak that helped Fresno to the West division championship, Greenlee completed 64% of his passes for 1,274 yards and 17 TD against 0 INT. The Vandals got back on the winning side the next week on the road against San Jose State as Austin Rehkow nailed a game-winning field goal as time expired in a 41-38 win. Hawaii was also up to the challenge of providing the Vandals with a difficult game - the Vandals held the Warriors scoreless in the final two and a half minutes to win by three points, 34-31. The Vandals missed out on the Mountain West Conference championship game thanks to the Fresno State loss, and dismantled Temple in the Poinsettia Bowl to win their tenth game of the season. Senior HB Bully Filoteo was named the team's MVP after finishing second in the nation in rushing yards (1,837) and first in touchdown runs (27). Utah State transfer Travis Parrish was named the defensive MVP. Deon Watson was runner up for the offensive MVP but deserves mention as he tied for the NCAA lead in receptions and provided steady leadership and great run blocking all season, coming in second in pancakes on the team. Watson was named the most inspirational player.

                  Coaching Carousel Coverage

Coach Status: As has been noted before, Coach Clark wants to compete for National Championships someday, and that isn't likely to be a possibility at Idaho. He has become one of the hot names for many jobs. However, he has fallen in love with the Palouse and its residents. Wide open spaces are definitely not a detriment in the mind of J.D. Clark - he was raised in Oklahoma and appreciates this type of country. His 5-year contract is almost up, therefore he is free to explore any possibilities that are out there. Sources close to the coach say that he is not averse to making a move if he feels everything sets up perfectly for him with the job. It has to be the ideal job.

                  Let the Carousel Begin

Alabama Crimson Tide: (4 star, 3-9 last year) Nick Saban retired age 65
Coach Clark thoughts: It's possible his face goes on a college football coaching version of Mount Rushmore. Bear Bryant, Knute Rockne, Woody Hayes, Nick Saban? I personally don't like the guy that much but you can't argue with his success.
New Hire: Nick Howell, HC West Virginia (8-5) - BYU Air Raid / 3-4 defense, alma mater NIU - Howell was the DC at BYU when they won the national championship, giving him a huge boost to his reputation. He had one successful season at WVU before jumping to higher ground at Alabama, a decision nobody is likely to fault.

USC Trojans: (4 star, 3-9 last year) Lane Kiffin (C+) was fired
Coach Clark thoughts: Kiffin knows offense but isn't a head coach type. Never was.
New Hire: Chris Petersen, HC Boise State (12-2) - Boise State (Multiple) /4-2-5 defense, alma mater California.
Coach Clark comment: The NCAA 14 version of the USC Trojans is head and shoulders smarter than the real life one. Nuff said.

Texas A&M Aggies: (3 star, 3-9 last year) Kevin Sumlin (C) was fired
Coach Clark received calls about this job but in the end wasn't offered the position outright. It may have been a tough job to turn down. Coach Clark: "They didn't offer me the job. I try to never get my hopes up and I was successful. I have absolutely no idea if I would have taken the job if it was offered to me. I'm from the Oklahoma area and view this as one of the Top 10 jobs in the nation."
New Hire: Luke Fickell, DC Ohio State, - Ohio State (Spread) /4-3 defense, alma mater San Jose State.
Coach Clark comment: Looks like a great hire for Texas A&M, a university and fan base that is very impressive.

Boise State Broncos: (3 star, 12-2 last year) Chris Petersen (A+) left to take the job at USC
Coach Clark received calls about this job but has no interest in BSU and was not offered the job.
New Hire: Bryan Harsin (B), HC Arkansas State (9-4), - Ole Miss (Spread) /4-3 defense, alma mater Boise State
Coach Clark comment: This is a move that makes a lot of sense. He is not a guy that will likely jump ship on Boise.

Those were the main jobs that were up for grabs this offseason. Coach Clark was offered several jobs, including head coach and offensive as well as defensive coordinator roles. All were declined in the end. The two toughest jobs for Clark to turn down were Kansas (love the idea of their uniforms, their stadium, etc.) and Northern Illinois which has always been a favorite. However, with Idaho turning into an attractive job and continuing to recruit new talent, Coach Clark cannot bring himself to make a move right now.

Coach Clark has determined to return to Idaho, entering into a new 7-year contract with the Idaho Vandals.

Texas A&M would have been tough but in the end I am very happy to see you staying at Idaho and continuing to build on the pieces you have put in place here. Looking forward to the rest of the offseason!

                      Players Leaving Early: 0
                      Players Transferring: 1

DT Stephen Williams - Transfers to NC State - Knowing that it is almost impossible to lure players back when they want to transfer, Coach Clark told him he would play in at least 9 games. However, Williams was clearly homesick and after his redshirt season he will transfer back to his home state, where he'll have to sit out another year. It's disappointing, but we want players who want to be here.

DEON WATSON PROJECTED TO BE A 2ND ROUND DRAFT PICK

Coach Clark was excited to deliver the news to Deon Watson: Teams are digging him. He is projected to be drafted in the second round. His combination of toughness, hands, route running and willingness to block are reportedly catching the eye of many teams.

Now, on to the graduates, and the one idiot who got his *** kicked out of school!

MOSCOW - What happens when you're short on players so you add a bunch of players to the board in the final weeks, go to the offseason expecting few to sign, and then all but one do sign?

"There's a bit of panic that set in, to be honest," said Coach J.D. Clark. "We were getting mixed signals on a lot of players and based on past experience, we thought it was going to be tough. We thought we would lose most of them."

There were 8 players that were still up in the air on their commitments going down to the wire. Astoundingly, Idaho signed seven. Only Eric Key, a cornerback from the state of Oregon, went elsewhere as he committed to UCLA.

DT Jon Golden and David McDaniel, JUCO SS Aaron Mills, C Robby Holt, WR Jannik Barstow, WR Dylan Jackson, and FS Caleb Carscallen agreed to play for the Vandals.

"It's definitely a good problem to have," said Clark of having more players scheduled to show up at camp than he has roster spots for. "Ideally, we will get better at getting commitments early so we feel more comfortable."

Fantastic offseason write ups. The amount of time and depth you put into the player leaving profiles is incredible. I can honestly say I read every word and loved it. It adds such a level of immersion.

Great signings during the offseason. How many are you anticipating having to cut? Archie looks like something special at tailback. Are you anticipating he will see the field a lot as true freshman?

Great recruiting class...Roach and Archie look like the next star 1-2 punch at RB.

Big boost to the secondary with Aaron Mills. Really like what you're doing here and very happy to learn we'll get to see Coach Clark in Idago black and gold for at least another season.

Glad you decided to keep building Idaho. With that kind of recruiting haul, I imagine it would have been hard to leave. Looks like several guys will be contributing from day one in Moscow. I think Kennedy could potentially have a big impact on your linebackers.

Great signings during the offseason. How many are you anticipating having to cut? Archie looks like something special at tailback. Are you anticipating he will see the field a lot as true freshman?
Thanks bro. I always liked those little bios they had about a player's career on a college football website. I do put time into the offseason reports, but it's because I can't stop screwing around with the format. I think i'm finally just gonna stick with exactly what I have. After every game, I spend about 3-5 minutes going through and adding the standout performances (or average performances for star players) to the bio sheet that I keep in Excel. So i don't have to put time into that in the offseason.

There will be 7 cuts, only 3 due to my fault. About 4 kids added to the class as usual, they will be the first to go, then three guys based on their work ethic and/or citizenship rankings and OVR ranking.

Big boost to the secondary with Aaron Mills. Really like what you're doing here and very happy to learn we'll get to see Coach Clark in Idago black and gold for at least another season.
Mills looks like he'll be a godsend, at least on paper. With his size and movement skills along with being as tough as a linebacker in contact, we look for big things. Thanks man. Archie, I'm worried about. His speed may make things too easy. lol (97) What I like is that doesn't mean he will be a 99 with my improvement system, I don't think kids get faster in college generally so I work that into the improvement model. Only rarely will players improve on speed and they are usually slow ones.

Pretty good haul for lil' old Idaho You nailed it with Kennedy, unless he is a flop he will be a really solid player. Happy to have him in the mix. Tempted to move him to middle, but that will only happen if the ratings appear to back it up. Thank you sir.
