Cool with me. That Coach's Interview answered it all. Hope it works out for you. Chalich looks like he'll be a solid fit in the offense.

FYI, FB's can be absolute gold in this game. I seem to find a good one every year.

Note: Idaho forced 3 fumbles in the game, and none were recovered. Points were scored on each of those drives.
Laramie, WY – Wyoming overcame some mistakes and bad game planning and also had some bounces go their way as they outlasted Idaho 49-42 in Laramie. Ground game dominance was the big gun that overcame those issues for the Cowboys in week 2.

Idaho got off to a horrible sgtart as they had a pass broken up on third down on the opening drive, then gave up a 58-yard touchdown run on the first play of Wyoming’s drive in what amounted to a jailbreak.

“We looked a little nervous there, a little tentative like we weren’t quite ready to get going and just got punched in the face,” said Coach Clark.

The Vandals put together a 10 play, 52 yard drive to earn a field goal but Brett Smith and company quickly took a 14-3 lead on a 7 play, 71-yard drive of their own as Bradley Njoku simply had too much territory to cover by himself and gave up an easy long bomb in the back of the end zone after biting on a route underneath. The play had to be chalked up to a horrible pass rush, as Smith stood in the pocket forever and the play just broke down.

The Vandals were stopped on the next two drives, but managed to force one punt in return as Smith was tackled for no gain trying to run the ball. After the second Idaho punt, Wyoming exploded for an easy touchdown drive as they made several big plays that led to a 9-yard touchdown run.

It looked like it couldn’t get much worse when Austin Rehkow missed a long field goal. Down 21-3, the game had the makings of a blowout and Wyoming had the ball again with plenty of time remaining in the half. Stupid decisions conspired at this point to make the game close. Wyoming drove into the red zone and then on 4th down they went for it instead of settling for a field goal. Broc Westlake tackled Smith in the backfield as he tried to run the ball. Idaho countered with an 8 play, 77 yard drive that took 1:51 as Chad Chalich made a beautiful read and throw to Dezmon Epps in the back of the end zone and suddenly the Vandals were right back in the game. That wouldn’t be the last stupid decision Wyoming made, as they duplicated the move on the first drive of the second half. This time Smith was sacked and Idaho suddenly had some huge momentum. They scored 6 plays later on a 19-yard pass from Chalich to Roman Runner.

Smith countered with a 44-yard touchdown run that was a thing of beauty for Cowboy fans as he got great blocking and had a convoy of 6 blockers leading him to the end zone. Idaho was down 17-28, but was effectively battering Wyoming’s biggest weakness, which were their corners.

“Chad threw the ball a lot more today because we thought they had a weakness in the secondary, specifically those corners,” said Derek Frazier after the game.

A Rehkow field goal of 47 yards was answered by Smith once again with a 12 play, 71-yard drive with some big conversions that resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run.

A Rehkow field goal of 47 yards was answered by Smith once again with a 12 play, 71-yard drive with some big conversions that resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run and the Vandals trailed 20-35 early in the 4th quarter. Chalich had the team in the end zone on the next possession but zoned in on Dezmon Epps, who was covered. The pass was intercepted by Tyran Finley. Given Wyoming’s powerful offense, the game looked over up until the point Idaho inexplicably started getting stops.

The Vandals forced a punt, and Jerrel Brown wrapped up a 68-yard drive with a 5-yard run in which he broke multiple tackles and looked every bit the more famous #24 from Seattle. Idaho then forced a three and out. Needing a touchdown and two-point conversion, they got just that as Brown plowed in for another touchdown before Chalich made a good read to find Epps all alone in the back of the end zone, and incredibly the game was tied 35-35.

Chalich found Najee Lovett for a tough catch in the front corner of the end zone in the first overtime as he took a serious lick and came down with the ball. Smith was sacked on the second play of the following drive but found D. Rufran all alone on 3rd down for a great conversion that ended up leading to a win. Shaun Wick scored a touchdown on a play that signaled Wyoming was back in control, and Smith then took the game over with an 11-yard touchdown run to start the second Overtime period. On fourth down, Roman Runner dropped a contested pass to end the game.

Moscow, ID – Idaho kept it competitive in a 43-27 loss to Northern Illinois in the Kibbie Dome, but were ultimately manhandled for 387 rushing yards and outscored 26-7 in the second half.

The score could have been a lot worse, but NIU was sloppy on third down, converting just 5 of 11 attempts. Also playing good defense on third down – give them credit - Idaho was thereby able to force four punts on the day.

In the end, the Vandals could not stop the ground attack of the Huskies. Akeem Daniels carried 23 times for 224 yards and amazingly did not get into the end zone. Jordan Lynch took care of that part, hogging the ball in the red zone area with 5 touchdowns. His 127 yards on 19 atttempts included a long of 38, but his touchdowns were all from 12 yards or closer.

The game was close with Idaho leading by a score of 20-17 at halftime, but was effectively over at the end of the third quarter as NIU scored two touchdowns on Lynch keepers, and then forced a safety on a blocked punt attempt at the 5 yard line. They capitalized on the first drive of the 4th quarter for a 40-20 lead,

Once again, freshman QB Chad Chalich put forth a good effort as he completed 65% of his pass attempts for 306 yards and 2 TD, with no INT. He wasn’t able to get anything going on the ground in this one, as the Idaho front just wasn’t able to contain the NIU rushers.

Running back James Baker missed a portion of this game with an undetermined injury to his leg, but came back strong in the second half with a 44-yard gain for a touchdown.

Defensive Line depleted further after two injuries

Two starters on the defensive line were hurt in the second half and an already bad defense will likely be much worse for the wear in the coming weeks.

Jr DE Maxx Forde had 10 tackles in the game including 3 TFL, but suffered a badly pulled hamstring in the 4th quarter and will miss approximately 5 weeks. Forde is easily the best player on the already weak front seven. Jr Marius Burgsmueller will fill in.

So DT Ryan Edwards was hurt early in the game, suffering a torn groin. It is thought that he will miss the rest of the season

Moscow, ID - In his first year as head coach of a college football team, J.D. Clark is learning the ropes and applying old fashioned values to the recruiting game. Clark wants to recruit as many freshmen as possible, and keep JUCO prospects to a minimum.

"We have some JUCO prospects on our board that we really like, and they are necessary for a program such as ours. However, they also usually have some reason that they are a JUCO prospect which fits into our overall evaluation. Some don't have a great work ethic, or just struggled in college. Some have legitimately turned it around and would be a great asset," said Clark.

Pullman, WA – Junior QB Connor Halliday threw for 450 yards and four touchdowns as the Mike Leach-led Washington State Cougars threw it 51 tmies in a 34-23 victory over the Vandals. Idaho continued to do well on third down, and for the second week in a row kept the score close for most of the game despite looking pathetic at times on defense.

Idaho had the ball first – they’ve lost every coin toss this season – and Chad Chalich had one of his first really bad moments of the season when he just threw a ball up for grabs and it was intercepted in Vandal territory. The Cougars quickly turned it into points with a three play, 32-yard drive as Teondray Caldwell caught the first of his school-record 14 passes for a 13-yard touchdown.

“I have to give Mike and his staff a lot of credit with how they worked Caldwell into the game plan. We just never were able to figure out how to cover the wide guys and stop Caldwell from getting the ball. Whether it was screens, wheel routes, or just tossing him the ball on a hitch to move the chains, he was awesome today and it was a great game plan,” said Coach Clark.

Of course, short passes weren’t the only thing going for Halladay as he racked up nearly 300 yards in the first half alone. Following an Idaho Field Goal, a busted coverage led to a 72-yard touchdown pass to Gabe Marks, who caught the ball right in stride after a safety bit on an underneath route.

Chalich went from bad to worse, directing the team all the way down the field before throwing an interception in the end zone. Following a WSU field goal that made it 17-3, the teams combined for four consecutive punts as Washington State was continually unsuccessful on third down. They ended up going 3-10 on the day. Idaho had some momentary glory late in the second quarter as Chalich went over the top to hit Roman Runner on a perfectly thrown pass, and Runner ran away from the defense for 63 yards and six points. WSU completed another couple of big plays but this time were forced to kick a field goal and led

Lovett may miss a week with concussion

Wide receiver Najee Lovett took a serious hit courtesy two Cougars during a third quarter catch and missed the rest of the game with a concussion. He is unlikely to play next week but will be a game time decision, said Coach Clark.

Man, what a game that was - 14 catches, geez. Glad I saw a drop on there - but that was definitely unexpected.

This Temple game is the one you must win - pretty even throughout except for your linebackers should help you out - I hope. Good luck, and just an incredible job with this - love reading it everytime.

Thanks man... For me the O-line is a permapriority, but ultimately the real priority is just getting some defensive players that can react to the play and have the speed to get there and shut it down. I don't really care what position. Teams are throwing these short passes and we just can't shut them down, they turn it up field and start breaking tackles or whatever.... ugh.

Thanks man As you know when it comes to these you have to be doing it for yourself in the end (to be able to look back on as a record and enjoy) but if somebody is enjoying it that's great. I agree about the Temple game and it turned out to be a doozy... ? ?
