Tough loss to opening the season, but giving Florida a run for their money is promising, and in The Swamp no less. Do we smell a QB controversy? Good luck this season.

Can't see a QB controversy quite yet, but with another bad game by Chalich I could see something like that happening. He gives us a completely different dimension with his wheels. I was reading in Phil Steele that IRL the other kid is super athletic but in this game he's 66 spd, and not that great of an arm either. We'll see what happens, yeah I felt the team played great D, need to carry that into some games against teams closer in quality to ours and might end up with some unexpected dubyas. For awhile I have been thinking that for season openers and after bye weeks I will allow myself to play extra tough. I gave them everything I had but all it took was one wrong move.

Moscow, ID – The Idaho defense was gashed time and time again at home yesterday but the offense simply overpowered South Alabama for a 62-37 victory.

Idaho led 10-7 after a first quarter that saw the Jaguars establish the read option and Idaho establish the power run, along with four punts. Those turned out to be the only four punts in the game, which morphed into a barnburner.

Idaho extended its lead to 17-7 when Chad Chalich floated a touchdown pass to TE Jacob Podrabsky in the back corner of the end zone. South Alabama started to heat up, continuing to establish the run game as QB Brandon Bridge made good reads in the option game, burning Idaho with the give time and time again while keeping them honest with keepers. Kendall Houston scored on gains of 19 and 18 yards in the second quarter.

Sandwiched between those two touchdowns was the play of the game for the Vandals. Chalich made a somewhat questionable decision throwing it over the middle to Deon Watson, but Watson somehow came up with the ball in a crowd then started catching blocks up the sideline, and was able to get into the end zone from 49 yards out. One of the key plays in the game came with 18 seconds in the first half when Chalich made a decision to scramble with no timeouts left, and navigated his way into the end zone through traffic from 7 yards out. The score at halftime was 31-21, Vandals.

USA drew closer still in the third quarter, outscoring the home team 10-0 on a 30-yard run by Bridge and a field goal, while Chalich connected with Dezmon Epps for a short touchdown pass.

Middle backer Dan Wilcox had a hand in how the game was decided in the all-important fourth quarterr. Following a Delency Parham interception that led to the second touchdown of the quarter Wilcox sacked Bridge on a screen pass attempt then two plays later intercepted him on a pass over the middle to put the game away. The Jaguars followed up with a 56-yard touchdown pass but the Vandals were able to come up with an onside kick and wind down most of the clock.

Moscow, ID – After BYU pulled a 14-point lead early in the fourth quarter on a 73-yard touchdown dash by Taysom Hill, it was only natural to think that BYU’s superior depth was finally taking its toll and the Cougars would hammer their way to victory henceforth. In contrary, Idaho, led by Sophomore QB Chad Chalich immediately made a big play on the next drive and led the Vandals back to tie the game with 12 seconds in regulation on a Kristoffer Olugbode run. Chalich then threw a touchdown pass to the back of the end zone to Dezmon Epps in overtime who finished with 178 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Impressing onlookers even more, the Vandals held Hill and the Cougars on downs in the first overtime to win the game.

The Vandals were surprised to find that Jamaal Williams, a legitimate NFL caliber running back if he stays in college another year, was not able to go for the Cougars in this game with a sore shoulder. Williams is far and away the best skill position player for the Cougars aside from Hill, and his absence meant the Vandals could – sort of – focus on Hill in the read option game. For most of the game it didn’t matter as Hill romped through the defense, but in the very late going and into overtime, the Vandals gradually got a handle on Hill, containing him with the help of a robber safety and linebacker spy while keying on the backup running backs at the snap.

According to Coach J.D. Clark, the key to the win was the senior Epps, who earned the game ball.

“He gives Chad somebody to go to with the ball,” said Clark. “The other guys he looks to see if they’re open. With Epps he just knows he will break open when it’s necessary. He’s always in the right spot and has the ability to break into the open against pretty much anybody. That’s a key difference and it’s why we’re able to stay competitive in a game like this.”

In addition to the injury to Williams, the Cougars made a key series of blunders in the game that cost them dearly.

Both teams punted on their first drive before the Vandals got close enough to kick a field goal to open the scoring. BYU then worked its way into Vandal territory before Hill made a gruesome decision with the ball, pitching to Lasike who was laying on the ground. Running back Paul Lasike had been tackled by Tomy Williams before Hill ever attempted a pitch, and no penalty was called, but the ball bounced around on the ground for a couple seconds before Williams corralled it. MLB Dan Wilcox was credited with the forced fumble but didn’t touch Hill. Although the play didn’t create any points for Idaho, who punted immediately thereafter, it was emblematic of periodic struggles by BYU throughout the game.

In overtime, they tried three consecutive halfback screens to start their possession rather than running it with Hill. That gave Hill exactly one chance to make the play his team needed, and he threw into coverage where it was knocked away by Bradley Njoku to end the game.

                  Dynasty Notes

-Finding it way too easy to pass and slightly too easy to run. Upping defensive pass coverage significantly and rush defense slightly. See how that works.

-BYU qualifies as a game I absolutely shouldn't have won. A random game will be simulated and played by the CPU while I watch as a result.

-I have reconfigured the classes and will count certain 3-star players as 2-star players because the pool of 2-star guys is just too limited for it to be any fun to screw around with. Anything below the top 900 (903 to be exact) players was considered a 2-star to add to that pool. So for instance anything rated lower than this is a 2-star in my system:

                  ATH 65
                  QB 40
                  HB 81
                  FB 4
                  TE 46
                  WR 142
                  T 50
                  G 54
                  C 38
                  DE 88
                  DT 65
                  OLB 69
                  MLB 37
                  CB 66
                  FS 29
                  SS 31
                  K 8
                  P 4

This will change annually based on the makeup of the class but will be generally in the 900 range.

Laramie, WY – Due to the scheduling quirk involved with joining the Mountain West Conference this season, the Idaho Vandals have had to play in Laramie, Wyoming each of the past two years. Last year they were able to keep the game close and the offense was surprisingly effective, making Brett Smith and company earn every yard in a 42-49 loss.

Unfortunately, history did not repeat itself and the Vandals will have to look forward to facing Wyoming at home some time in the future for revenge as they were brutalized 41-10 by the Cowboys, who dominated up front on both sides of the ball.

Idaho scored first and was down just 10-14 at the end of the first quarter, but that was all the points they would score as they were simply outclassed in this game. The Wyoming offense used a dominant offensive line and excellent play by QB Smith and HB Shaun Wick to post 508 yards of offense, including 358 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.

“Give Smith and especially that offensive line all the credit,” said a clearly frustrated Coach Clark. “They put the pedal to the metal, and he made all the right decisions. It was easy for them today and that’s tough as an opposing coach.”

The Vandals are especially raw in the middle of their defensive line and are giving up gaping holes in every direction on the read option. It’s something they will have to clean up if they want to be competitive against teams that have an athletic quarterback.

First off, loving the dynasty with all the details and the layout, very impressive and easy to follow.

I wasn't sure if I should PM this or not, but figured I'd ask. I made some of my own Excel box scores/graphics, but whenever I try to paste them to a picture, it seems like they aren't nearly as sharp or clear as yours. I've tried messing around with sizes, fonts, resolutions, pasting as image, etc but have been unsuccessful making it as clear as I'd like. Can you give a little more detail on your process? Thank you very much and hopefully you get some more time to play in the near future!

I think the key is to try and never change the size. For instance in an excel spreadsheet I take pains to make sure that the width of a graphic(when pasted into the image program I typically use which is photofiltre) is 770 pixels. That's the image size width of my preference and what I think looks good. others might want a much narrower one. It's pretty easy to do this, for instance you can start off with a spreadsheet that has 77 columns at 10 Pixels apiece.... Or let's say you wanna go with 600 pixel width, 60 at 10 apiece... It'll give you a lot of flexibility in setting up various types of charts by merging cells etc.

So I have whatever image already 770 Pixels wide when I paste it in there, I save it as a bmp. When I upload it to imgur it changes it to a PNG but so far that hasn't been a problem. I might start saving them a .PNG just to see if it improves it at all.

So same idea when it comes to the stories which are done in word. The actual copied and pasted section is wider than 770 Pixels but I use the "canvas size" option instead of re-sizing I effectively crop the edges to 770 Pixels rather than resizing anything within that middle 770 pixels. Also to be clear the process for the word thing is that I print screen 2 or 3 sections of the story at a time and then paste the entire thing into photofiltre... and then crop (keeping the entire width of my computer screen) each vertical section of the story, paste in the next one, and so forth until the whole thing is there, then crop to the size that is larger than 770, and then canvas size crop to 770.

So in closing, you wanna just never ever have any program you're using ever change the image size and have it cut/paste the exact size of your choosing the first time Thanks a lot for checking in, if that doesn't help then let me know more about your process and I may be able to find an issue.
