A Change of Direction: A Rams Franchis

Okay, so I have started a Rams franchise as a Financial Mogul Owner. The title Change of Direction implicates that I will be transforming this team into a team of my taste and style. I will look to transform the team on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, I will be using Gunner's "Scattergun" playbook. It has a great variety of running plays which represents the direction I want to go. I will build around Tre Mason, Tavon Austin, and Greg Robinson.

Defensively, I would love to be a strong man defensive team with a line that can rush the passer. I will build around Chris Long, Robert Quinn, and Janoris Jenkins.
    • Offensive Playbook: Scattergun (custom/Gunner)
    • Defensive Playbook: :: St. Louis - J.Fisher (4-3)

My first order of business will be to trade Sam Bradford and also relocate the team to a larger and hopefully more successful market. I'm starting from square one, and departing from Bradford is the 1st step.

There are various positions in which we are currently weak at. Some of the most notable positions that we need to upgrade will be (QB, WR, TE, C, MLB, ROLB, CB, FS, and SS).

    Pre-Season

This pre-season, I concentrated on upgrading our foundation. I put time into Tavon Austin, Janoris Jenkins, Tre Mason, Austin Davis, and Greg Robinson.

    Position Battles
QB: With the plan to depart ways with Sam Bradford, the Rams have an interesting situation at QB.
    • Shaun Hill is the veteran of the bunch and would be considered an early favorite for the job.
    • Austin Davis is a young kid out of Southern Miss where he broke every single record that Brett Favre held. Davis has a style similar to Drew Brees

RB: Even though Zac Stacy emerged last season as the Rams starting back, he now found rookie Tre Mason right on his heels.
    • Stacy would seem to be a shoe in for the starting job but with a lack of off-season growth, he may have pushed himself back on the depth chart if not out of the door.
    • Mason is fresh out of Auburn where he had a stellar season in which he carried his team to a National Championship run that was eventually lost to Florida State. He has done nothing but impress this Rams coaching staff since he arrived.

    Pre-Season Moves

As stated before, we were definitely looking at moving Sam Bradford. Once the news hit the market, we had a flood of offers. Our final decision was to send Bradford to the Texans as they are a win now team with a sold QB.

I'm liking this. Maybe you should trade Stacy so you can build the O from your view. Give Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham time to shine.

Austin Davis will be our starting quarterback for week 1. We realize that this season might not provide the initial expectation the fans had. We feel though we have to take this organization in a new direction. In order to compete with the Seahawks and 49ers year in and year out, we have to rebuild our foundation. Tre Mason wil also lead the charge in the backfield to start the season.

        Draft Stories and Scouting
        • Everett Doyle: QB | SPD-B | ACC-B | TAS-B
        • Derek Stallworth: QB | SPD-B | ACC-A | TAS-B
        • Boris Mincy: QB | SPD-C | ACC-B | TAS-C

Depending on the progress of Austin Davis this season will determine our direction for this years draft. We are going to start evaluating QB talent early to see if we can find a QB with decent speed and the ability to complete short passes.

        Key Injuries: None

The Rams took on the Vikings to open up their 2014 season. In a game where the Rams turned the ball over 4 times, the Rams lost 27-17. Austin Davis certainly had some mistakes in todays game as he threw 3 interceptions. He was able to finish the game completing 20 out of 29 passes and did get a TD on the day.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of todays game was De'Anthony Thomas who led the Rams receiving corps today. Thomas finished the game 106 yards on 7 receptions. The Rams had him lined up all over the place today and plan to keep that in tact in the future.

The running game was non existent today. Tre Mason was only able to muster up 45 yards on 18 carries. Defensively the Rams had trouble stopping the run. Adrian Peterson was able to compile 115 yards on 20 carries. [B]Matt Cassel only had to throw the ball 9 times today and completed 8 of them for 146 yards and 2 TD's. A majority of that went Jarius Wright who had 96 yards on 3 receptios and a TD.

The news became official today that this will be the Rams last season in St.Louis. Starting in the 2015 season, the Rams will officially move to Chicago. Along with a new city, the Rams will officially become the Blues.

We had another terrible game offensively. It was a weird day in which we had 4 turnovers again with 2 of them being fumbles.

Austin Davis struggled again throwing for 2 interceptions and only 126 yards. Although he did complete 62% of his passes, there were some positive things to take away.

We struggled on the ground again but mainly with ball security. Tre Mason, Zac Stacy, and Austin Davis had fumbles in which we lost two of them. Mason was only able to put up 38 yards on 12 carries.

Defensively the team looked pretty good. Doug Martin was able to break a couple of good runs but overall we kept him under 100 yards. We were able to get pressure with just our front 4 so we want have to rely on the blitz very much in the future allowing more guys for coverage.

            Pre-Game Notes

We have got to get things going better on the offensive side of the ball this week. We have got to start with eliminating turnovers and putting ourselves in better 3rd down situations.

We need to do a better job of using Tavon Austin. His skillset is to valuable, and we need to do a better job of getting the ball in his hands. Look for more 3 WR sets this week to get him on the field. We also want to get Jeff Janis some plays this week. His size should be a mismatch and give us an advantage.

This was a tough loss to swallow. The offense showed great improvements but a couple of turnovers hurt in our loss to the Cowboys who were able to convert a last second field goal to win the game.

Offensively, Austin Davis looked like a new quarterback under center. He threw for 247 yards but threw an interception in the redzone that Brandon Carr took back for 6 the other way.

The running game looked a little better as Tre Mason put up 49 yards on 14 carries and got his first career touchdown. Jared Cook led the team with 4 catches on the afternoon. Jeff Janis was able to get 2 catches for 28 yards. The Rams staff really love the skillset Janis provides and he will certainly see more work in the future.

Defensively, the Rams were in bend, don't break mode all day. The Rams held the Cowboys offense to 4 FG's today. A blown assignment on Dez Bryant though eventually led to a last second field goal from Dan Bailey.

                      Pre-Game Notes

We have a tough matchup awaiting us this week. We have to head to Philadelphia to play the Eagles and their stout offense. Lesean McCoy is currently 2nd in the NFL in rushing so our gameplan is going to be to stuff the box and make Nick Foles beat us through the air.

We are going to make a strong effort this week to get the ground game moving in order to keep McCoy and that potent Eagles offense on the sideline.
