Rebuilding the Raiders, Restoring Glory to the Black Hole v2.0 - M15 (All-Madden)

**The Reason I began Version 2.0 is because I found that the sliders were starting to get a little easy, and I wanted to start from the get-go with the sliders that I ended my last franchise with. I was getting extremely realistic games and I want that to continue**

Here I am as the new Team Builder-style Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders. A team I grew up watching and loving, a life-long fan through the good times and the bad. I come into this organization after a terrible past decade in which the teams best record was breaking an even 8-8 (2010, 2011).

I bring the Raiders a new approach on both sides of the ball. Dennis Allen's old playbook is nothing special, and I bring in my own 'Scattergun' playbook, which is a West-Coast offense at it's core, with a few extra Spread offenses sprinkled in. Mainly I will be utilizing the running game along with the Short to Medium passes.
    • Offensive Playbook: Scattergun (custom)
    • Defensive Playbook: Pittsburgh - Mike Tomlin (3-4)

I need to work with GM Reggie McKenzie to bring in some fresh talent and upgrade some of our stale positions (most notable positions: RB, WR, RG, RT, CB, FS). We did a great job in the off-season of this season in Free Agency and the Draft signing future superstar Khalil Mack and drafting a potential gold mine in Derek Carr.

    Shared Files!

Just so you all know, I have uploaded my 'Scattergun' playbook to the Community Files. Also, I have uploaded my Sliders as well (both are entitled 'GP16ALLMADDENREALISTIC')

If you would like to download them, simply search for my gamertag: GutterPhenom16.

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders, Restoring Glory to the Black Hole v2.0 - M15 (All-Madden)

    Pre-Season
    • D. Allen's Out In Oakland: Raiders will have a new head coach as they cut ties with Dennis Allen
      • "BREAKING NEWS: Raiders have fired D. Allen" - Chris Mortenson

    Notes

One of the major things I need to do this pre-season is I need to use the Game Prep on improving the Confidence and gaining EXP for top rookies Khalil Mack and Derek Carr.

    Position Battles
QB: This is an interesting matchup for the pre-season as every QB have an equal shot at starting the first game of the year.
    • Schaub: comes in after a dismal season in Houston having been dwindling the last few seasons, but hopefully the change in scenery can reinvigorate this QB and bring him back to where he was 4 years ago

    • McGloin: was the rookie QB to take over for the ill-fated Terrelle Pryor experiment last year and had a decent season. He is unproven (only having played 7 of 16 games last year) but is a good pocket presence and could possibly bloom into a solid QB.

    • Carr: was our 2nd round pick in the last draft and was highly touted after being relatively unknown throughout his college career. He showed great poise in the pocket, an ability to run and put out an amazing combine to show he belonged in the NFL. I like him in my offensive system and will give him a good shot to prove himself in the pre-season.

RB:The battle of the broken Running Backs. Both of these RBs used to be amazing but thanks to constant injury (DMC) and wear-and-tear on a terrible team (MJD.. well.. both, but mostly MJD) these RBs are on a downward spiral.
    • MJD is the starter for now, posing as a better 'bruising' type runner but has been more consistent throughout his career than DMC. Consider him to be more of the Fred Jackson-type of the Raiders.

    • DMC was the Raiders cornerstone when we drafted him in 2008 but has vastly underwhelmed mainly due to his constant being on the injury report. He is definitely the shiftier and faster of the two backs (the C.J. Spiller to our offense) but mainly will be used as a change-of-pace back unless he shows he is a considerable advantage over MJD.

    Pre-Season Games

I simulate every pre-season game, they just aren't worth it to play. I simulate through the weeks with Injuries turned OFF so there aren't any ridiculous injuries that I cannot help with. I will see the stats at the end of the 4th game and make decisions under the Week 1 post, once again under the Coach's Corner.

    Pre-Season Notes

Right off the bat I saw that I had offers for RE Benson Mayowa and both of the offers are for mid-level Running Backs. I think I will hold onto Mayowa only because I have 2 older veterans on the ends of my D-Line and they could go down with injury at any time.

Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew finished with the exact same stats through the pre-season - however I need to make a move as to who I want to keep and who I want to get rid of. Maurice Jones-Drew ended up having the better pre-season thanks to a big receiving TD but his contract is 5 times bigger than that of DMC. I have been looking around the Trade Block and found quite a few appealing names; maybe will make a trade.

The QB Position Battle wasn't even close. The CPU decided that Matt McGloin wasn't even worth using the entire pre-season, and it came down to Matt Schaub vs Derek Carr and Carr won hands down. They both had decent numbers, but Carr's 3 TDs to Schaub's 1 proves him to be the victor. With this settled, I would like to get rid of one of the 2 backup QBs and try and snag a few draft picks for them.

    Trade Block
I have decided to put up a few people onto the Trading Block, see what comes through..
    • Matt Schaub (QB)
    • Matt McGloin (QB)
    • Maurice Jones-Drew (WR)

I have received offers for RE Benson Mayowa, but the two offers I got weren't very appealing - Cowboys offered Lance Dunbar (HB / 76 Ovr) and the Falcons offered Antoine Smith (HB / 77 Ovr) - So I will pass and keep Mayowa on board to back up the veterans on the ends.

I have decided to keep both MJD and DMC and let them head the two-headed rushing attack - hopefully one of them breaks off and becomes a bonafide starter, but for now I will be initiating a 50/50 split between both RBs.

Following. Was really enjoying the other one.

Quick question/comment on your RBs: Not going for Ellington in this franchise? Seems like you gave up a lot for Miller.

Also, as I said last time start the Carr! Lol.. idk why just really like Derek Carr as a player and Madden QB.

I edited the post.. I went back, No More Miller! But Carr is my starter for QB for sure.

However, for the trades I do not go for players unless they are on the Trading Block.. That way I feel like the team actually is actively trying to get rid of that player, rather than me prying them off their team with the crap Trade system that is in this game.. Unfortunately Ellington isn't on the Trading Block this time (I think the roster updates have boosted him up quite a bit since I started that last Franchise)

**In this v2 I am going to include a better post-game wrap and include screenshots from the game and make it more realistic looking. Also I will include some more Around the League news and Major Injuries stories, so people can see what's going on in the NFL and not just my team**

          Major News Stories
          • Freshman Orientation: Darren Sutton will have insanely high expectations with no coaching background.

          Coach's Corner
(this is where I will talk about different things about the team like Draft Classes, who I am looking at for the draft, Trading Block issues, Team Re-signings, and some of my own personal notes about things happening with the team)

          Notes

Derek Carr will be leading this offense and hopefully the two-headed attack of Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden can prove to effective. Since MJD has the Rating advantage he will be the starter, with DMC taking 3rd Down duties; however, I am going to attempt to give them even carries until one of them establishes themselves.

I am going to try and trade off Matt Schaub or Matt McGloin (preferably Schaub due to his contract) and try and get a few draft picks.

This is where I will be posting the draft stories that come throughout the season, and I will also post players who I am scouting and where they rank on my big board. I definitely need to look into a Corner Back as my top priority, and then I need to start looking at a big WR prospect as well.

This is the first game of my coaching tenure and the first time we will see the Scattergun playbook be unleashed. I am very excited heading into MetLife to take on the Jets; lets see how it goes!

A tough loss for the Raiders today, but it was a well-fought game. Going against the tough Jets Rush D we couldn't establish a run game, and Derek Carr could not connect with his receivers when they went beyond 10 yards, which was a major drive-killer throughout the game.

The Offense was mediocre at best today. Derek Carr's first game in the NFL was sub-par at best, completing 50% of his passes for 210 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs; his TD coming in the closing seconds of the game with the game out of reach, after throwing a pick-six to Calvin Pryor put the game out of reach. The rushing attack couldn't get going today facing the stout Jets Defense; I tried to split carries between Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden and I wanted to see who did better, and it looks as though MJD did the better of the two today - rushing for 61 yards on 17 carries, and DMC only mustered 38 yards on 10 carries. I will continue to split carries between the two until I see one clear-cut winner, or if I get a good enough trade offer for one I will take it.

The Defense today was actually quite good until the final frame and then things got messy. We were great against the Pass, as Geno Smith was only able to throw 10 of 17 completions for 137 yards, but failed to find the end zone and threw 1 INT. We were absolutely stuffing the run as well, but that was until the 4th Quarter when the Jets started to take over. Chris Ivory began busting off big runs of 10+ yards (I believe he had 4 in the final quarter alone) and finished the day with a great 107 yards on 22 carries and backup Chris Johnson finished with 37 yards on 9 carries and found the end zone.

Derek Carr had a rough day last week, I'm looking to shake off the cobwebs and get the passing game to be a little more reliable this time around. Also, MJD had the better game last week against the Jets and actually put up some decent yardage, but I am still looking to split carries between him and DMC and I will wait a few more weeks or until one proves that they can be the feature back.

An awesome win for us today. First win of my career as an NFL Head Coach and it was an awesome game for us.

The Offense was pretty good today and we finally got some decent yardage on the ground too. Derek Carr had a little better of a game today throwing for 215 yards but failed to find the end zone and did have an INT - but looked much more comfortable in the pocket. The focal point of this offense is runs and short passes and he looked great throwing it over the middle to James Jones (6/52/0) and Rod Streater (5/44/0). I wanted to split the carries between the two running backs, and gave Maurice Jones-Drew the first half carries and DMC the second half, and DMC was far-and-away the better back today. Jones-Drew was only able to get 27 yards on 16 carries, and Darren McFadden was able to bust open for 71 yards on 19 carries and had 2 scores on the day. McFadden was also the main reason we came back and won this game, rushing for 30 yards on the final game-winning drive, including 2 3rd Down conversions.

The Defense today was actually amazing. Ryan Fitzpatrick had an absolutely terrible day today and couldn't get anything going in the passing game (he threw 6 of 11 completions for 76 yards with 1 INT) before exiting the game with an injury - he did not return - and backup Ryan Mallett had a much better day, throwing 11 of 16 for 93 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Tyvon Branch had another INT today, bringing his season total to 2 and he is looking like his former self, being one of the premier Safeties in the NFL. Arian Foster had a pretty good game on the ground, busting off 96 yards on 14 carries, including a long of 29 - he was the only bright spot on an otherwise gloomy offensive output by the Texans.

The one thing we need to improve on is our Rush Defense - but these numbers are really looking like the real deal and it's awesome.

I am not impressed with either of my Running Backs at this point. Darren McFadden was very impressive in the clutch against the Texans, but other than that final drive he really looked average. Maurice Jones-Drew had a decent first game but was absolutely stuffed against the Texans. I just couldn't have a clear-cut winner. But I am going to try and make a move and get rid of Jones-Drew and his contract for another RB. Let's see how things work out...

              Notes
I need to upgrade the Rushing Attack. I absolutely LOVE Andre Ellington of the Arizona Cardinals; he is a young, quick back with IMMENSE upside. I need to get him before he starts overwhelming the NFL.

              Trade
              • Raiders Give: Maurice Jones-Drew + 2015 3rd Round Pick
              • Cardinals Give: Andre Ellington

"Cardinals making moves, acquiring M. Jones-Drew today from the Raiders." - Adam Schefter

This is the trade I wanted to make since the pre-season. This is how I start rebuilding this franchise. Ellington is a young, dynamic running back to helm the already-impressive running game that we boast right now. Maurice Jones-Drew was a solid player a few years ago, but he is well passed his prime now and I need someone who is going to be here for a while and is going to produce every game.

A tough loss for the Raiders, and things really were close until the 4th Quarter. Tom Brady was knocked out of the game in the 1st Quarter and backup Jimmy Garoppolo was actually astounding in relief, but didn't really start to heat up until the 4th Quarter.

The Offense today was pretty awful throwing, and pretty great on the ground. Derek Carr threw for 151 yards on 19 of 36 completions with 0 TDs and 1 INT - he really isn't looking great and I may start to look toward the Draft for a replacement if he can't turn it around. Once again, Rod Streater was the saving grace for Carr as he caught all of his 8 targets for 69 yards. Andre Ellington had an above average day in his first game in Silver & Black, rushing for 68 yards on 20 carries and he found the end zone. However, Darren McFadden busted off an impressive 62 yards on just 10 carries including a big gain of 29 yards. Going forward I will continue to get him the ball, especially while Carr can't throw.

The Defense was great until the final frame. Justin Tuck had a crazy day today, leading the team with 7 tackles, but absolutely shredded his blocker for 4 sacks. Tom Brady only was able to throw 2 passes before exiting the game with an injury but was able to hit Brandon LaFell for an 80-yard score. score on a play-action pass, however on his first sack taken he was out for the game. Jimmy Garoppolo was amazing in relief completing 19 of 24 passes for 244 yards, including his own 85-yard bomb to LaFell who just shredded the defense on play-action plays and made the defense look absolutely ridiculous. However, while we did give up big yards through the air, we did hold Shane Vereen to an average day, as he totaled 70 yards on 16 carries and failed to find the end zone, even from within 2 yards.

We have to do a better job at stopping the big play, and I have to do a better job at recognizing the play before it happens, and I need to get better zone coverage calls to protect myself, however this is going to be difficult as red-hot Strong Safety Tyvon Branch left the game with an injury and should be missing a couple weeks.

**I am going to start separating posts.. First post will be all of my preparations for the week; trades, game prep, free agent pickups, and all the other tidbits of information I give on the weekly basis, and then the second post will be the box score to the game with the Post-Game wrap**

                Year 2, Week 4
An absolutely terrible week against the Patriots last week has sent this team reeling. Tyvon Branch is gone for 6 weeks and I am without my best defender on a defense that was absolutely beasted for 329 yards passing. Andre Ellington had a solid debut for the Raiders, but Darren McFadden keeps on shining in his relief role, so I will continue to give him the ball a few times.

The biggest takeaway from the first 3 games is that Derek Carr is not who I thought he was. I thought he was going to come into the league and be able to be precise and hit receivers for short to medium gains, but that is not the case as he has been very inconsistent - completing maybe 50% of his passes - and has 1 TD to 4 INTs. While he isn't going anywhere, nor will I start Schaub or McGloin but I will start looking at the Draft Board for a new QB.

                Pre-Game Notes
This is a big game for the Raiders today, but it is going to be a tough one for Derek Carr to really break out in as the Dolphins rank #7 in the NFL against the Pass. However, aside from Brent Grimes I should be able to hit my targets within 10 yards and keep drives moving with those short throws, and the Ellington / McFadden combo should really take advantage of their #23 rush defense.

A rainy game in London was the stage for a tough game for the Raiders today. The Dolphins capitalized on our soft defense and blew us up for it. This was also the tale of two halves, as the Raiders absolutely disappeared in the 2nd half.

The Offense today was actually pretty good, but failed to make plays in the 2nd half and we went 3-and-out on more drives than I care to mention. Derek Carr led the offense and finally snapped out of his turnover-happy funk and went 17 of 30 completions but only threw for 167 yards and 1 score. All of his passes were inside 10 yards and only one went for more than that. His big receiver of the day was James Jones who caught 7 passes for 80 yards, including the long ball of the day which went for 26 - and Andre Holmes was the end zone target today as he went across the middle from 2 yards out and beat out his coverage to snag the touchdown. Andre Ellington once again had only an average day, running for 59 yards and 1 TD, with McFadden finally slowing down and getting 33 yards on 11 carries.

The Defense was pretty abysmal today, and I don't see the same team out there with Tyvon Branch on the sidelines nursing an injury. Ryan Tannehill had a huge game, throwing 20 of 23 completions for 256 yards and 1 TD, also adding a rushing TD from 13 yards out. Charles Clay was his big target today as he nabbed 86 yards on just 4 catches with his 30 yard TD, and Mike Wallace had a huge day as well, catching 4 balls for 87 yards - but should have had another catch that went for an 80 yard score, but dropped the pass. Knowshon Moreno killed it on the ground, rushing for 96 yards on 23 carries, and backup Daniel Thomas busted off a HUGE 59 yard run, breaking 2 tackles and juking Kevin Maiava right out of his cleats en route to a 4 carry, 63 yard day.

Again, in the 2nd Half of the game the Raiders couldn't get a drive put together and that absolutely stunted us - in the 4th Quarter we finally got across the yellow line but it was under 4 minutes when we did start heating up. On the scoring drive in the 4th Andre Holmes was wide open in the end zone from 2 yards out and Derek Carr finally put up a score without turning the ball over. And I finally got my first ever onsides kick in Madden! However, the resulting drive was a 3-and-out.. It was just a miserable day all around.

Another miserable performance by this offense. We really need a spark, and I need to turn to Andre Ellington and James Jones for the answers. On the bye week I need to Improve the Confidence of my main positions, and I need to hope it carries over to the next week.

I have been shopping around and found that there were quite a few teams that needed QBs but nobody was really willing to deal with me. The main thing I was looking for was a team that considered Matt Schaub a Medium-interest (yellow on the color scale) player; however, no team wants him. I did offer up Matt McGloin to those teams as well and had no luck until I reached the Tennessee Titans who considered McGloin a yellow-level player.

Gunning for their 1st Round Pick I got this offer through and they accepted, amazingly.

AN AWESOME GAME FOR THE RAIDERS! Every facet of the team came alive in this rivalry game and we put that whiny brat Rivers into the dirt today. What a game!

The Offense was astounding today, and we finally started clicking on the rushing attack and the passing attack. Derek Carr had a phenomenal game finally and definitely showed why he earned the starting job this season; throwing for 235 yards and 2 scores with 0 picks, and adding an 11 yard rushing score late in the game. He also had quite a few passes over 10 yards finally, hitting Rod Streater for a season-long 47 yard reception, and he finished with a team-high 6 nabs for 85 yards. Carr was able to find Mychal Rivera in the end zone for a 3 yard score, but Rivera left the game with Broken Ribs on the play. He was also able to find Andre Ellington for a 3 yard score, and he had a great day on the ground as well, adding 89 yards on 18 carries and also found the end zone running too - so a phenomenal day for the new Raiders RB.

The Defense were the real stars of this one. While Philip Rivers had a great day on paper, he had 2 extremely costly turnovers that led to the downfall of the Chargers for this game. Rivers passing day was 14 of 16 for 225 yards including his 73 yard bomb to Da'Rick Rogers - Rivers was also able to hit Keenan Allen for a team-high 6 catches for 93 yards. Danny Woodhead quietly had a great day on the ground, as did the rest of the Chargers backfield options, earning 110 yards on 19 carries, with Ryan Mathews following suit with 30 yards on 7 carries, and Branden Oliver even added 37 yards on just 2 carries including one long run of 25 yards. Clearly the rushing defense was a little rough, but the fact that on two straight drives we were able to get through the line, sack Philip Rivers and force fumbles which both were returned for TDs - it was a great day defensively.

Wow.. Last week was an absolutely AMAZING week for the Raiders. I am proud of my team, and I really hope we start to hit our stride and find ourselves in this league because losing all these games the way we were was just heartbreaking.

We moved up to 3rd in the AFC West with the win over the Chargers, but I am thinking that they are off to their normal slow-start but they should start to heat up, but hopefully we continue the scorching hot game that we played into this week against the Cardinals.

                          Draft Stories & Scouting
Team Needs (# is draft priority): QB, WR (3), LG, RG, RT, LE, RE, MLB (2), CB (1), FS, K
                          Scouting Points: 630

                          • One Sack After Another: RE Stecolian Berry has been a force to be reckoned with for Penn State so far this season, picking up a sack in each of the last five games.
                            • "One defensive lineman quickly picking up steam in draft circles is RE Berry. Keep an eye on him." - Todd McShay

I should really start investing my Scouting Points into some prospects, however, there aren't any stories that are catching my eye, but I will just have to go in and find some prospects myself. Derek Carr did not have the best of starts this season but he is coming into his own, so if I do look at QBs it won't be until the late-draft. My top priorities are Cornerback and Middle Linebacker for sure, and on the offensive side of the ball I would like a Tight End and a Wide Receiver and I also need to fix up the right side of my line with a new Right Tackle.

However the last two stories that have popped up on the News Page are of 2 Very Talented RE's that I may want to look at if I cant find a no-doubt 1st Round CB or MLB.

                          Players Scouted
                          • Ontarius Coker - WR, Red Zone Threat in a Vertical Offense - Projected: 1st, #2
                            • A: Speed, Agility, Acceleration, Jumping (96), Spec Catch, Release
                            • B: Catching, Cth In Traffic
                            • C: Rte Running, Elusiveness
                            • D: Awareness

Honestly one of the greatest prospects I have ever scouted. He is bar-none, one of the best receivers to come out of the draft since Calvin Johnson and he is who I am gunning for first, unless there is someone else out there that ourdoes him, but this kid is 6'6" and has A's across the board in the Speed areas, and B's in the catching - I really am intrigued with this guy, just wish I didn't double-scout the Jumping stat to completely drain my Scouting Points down to 35 from 635
                          • Javien Fisher - CB, Balanced in a Zone Blitz 3-4 Defense - Projected: 2nd, #6
                            • A: none yet
                            • B: Man Coverage, Zone Coverage
                            • C: Press, Play Recognition
                            • D: none yet

Fisher is definitely looking like a great pickup in the 2nd round of the draft but there is just not enough to go on.

Give me another 5 weeks and I will build up enough points, and get enough Draft Stories together to find my blue-chip players.

This was another amazing win for us today, putting us at an even .500 on the season this win will hurt us in the long run as some of our best players went down - all eerily with the same injury, a Broken Collarbone. We will be missing the services of Andre Ellington, Khalil Mack, and linebacker Jamar Chaney for the next 6+ weeks - and even our 3rd String RB Latavius Murray went down with Broken Ribs and will miss 4 weeks. This is a serious problem, and I need to take to the Free Agency pool to help patch up my team.

The Offense was great today - Derek Carr continued his strong QB play with 183 yards passing with 2 scores and 0 INTs, he is finally settling in to the pocket, although I did force a few throws that should have been intercepted but were dropped thankfully. No real stand out performances receiving-wise but James Jones once again led the team with 6 grabs for 50 yards. Before Ellington went down with his injury, he was only able to put up 21 yards on the ground but did manage to find the end zone before exiting. Darren McFadden ended up posting 64 yards on 20 carries in a solid effort against one of the best run defenses in the league.

The Defense today were once again the shining stars of the game. While the Cardinals were able to put up big numbers against us, we forced 5 Turnovers.. 5!!!! That's amazing! We intercepted Carson Palmer 2 times, but he also was able to throw for 373 yards and 2 TDs - and his main targets were Malcolm Floyd (7/76/2) and former Raider Maurice Jones-Drew had an amazing night with the few touches he had, putting up 64 rushing yards on 2 carries and adding 51 receiving yards on 3 catches - he just made the most of his plays and really put our defense to shame.

However, the game winning play was inside 2-minutes, as we were able to blow up Josh Brown after he made a catch and he coughed up the ball in which we took it back to the house. However, the Cardinals really made this a game by completing a circus-like drive (Palmer escaped 2 sacks and bombed it 50 yards for a completion, and then hit Floyd for his 2nd TD) and then they recovered the onsides kick, but luckily we stopped them on the next drive and were able to kneel the clock away for the victory.

Another HUGE win for us but this one comes at the expense of losing 3 of our top players on both sides of the ball.. Now we have a major problem in all of the holes I need to plug while our stars recover from their injuries.. We are sorely going to miss Khalil Mack and Andre Ellington..
