    GURU'S THOUGHTS

BC has been up and down throughout the dynasty, finishing #2 and winning the Orange Bowl in 2019 but having also had their share of losing seasons as well. This series has turned into a nice rivalry, and I'm excited to finally get to play in Chestnut Hill (2018/2020 were in Foxborough, 2021/2022 were in Hartford).

Second year head coach Dino Babers is doing a great job setting up the program for long-term success, as headlined by a strong recruiting class this past year. BC went to a bowl game last year, and are in contention for another this year behind a veteran offensive unit. Some familiar faces have returned to Chestnut Hill, notably tailback Greg Jones and tight end Courtney Bradshaw, both of whom might be playing in the NFL next fall. Third-year sophomore Cody Blake is in his first year as the starter at quarterback and has played solidly to this point, completing almost 68% of his throws with a 3:1 TD-INT ratio. Their defense has left a little to be desired at times, but junior corner Brad Royal is a future NFL star, and he anchors the unit unquestionably.

I would expect Royal to shut down at least one of our star wideouts, while Nick Taylor is capable of at least taming another. Nickelback Kendrick Sharper may play a large role in the game, as he or either of the safeties will be tasked with challenging Devin Brown, Marcus Rodgers and tight end Alex Paige. Those three receivers may be the main targets with all eyes on Royal.

Mike Molden could be effective against BC’s weakness on the defensive edge. With a handful of decent linebackers, I would not be surprised if BC tried some blitz packages, so our O-Line should be put to the test again. Despite a strong performance from our offense last week, Jordan Brown was still sacked five times.

Our defense struggled to slow down Jones in particular last year, so our D-Line against their rushing attack may be the key to this game. We should be able to win, but after the upset last year, anything is possible.

    RIVALRY HISTORY

2022 (PREVIOUS MEETING): BC invaded the loudest house in the East and came out with an upset victory over a UConn team still trying to defend their national championship. Jason Drizianni completes a spectacular 39 of his 45 pass attempts for 345 yards and two touchdowns en route to victory, while BC's defense held UConn to just 23 points. The victory was the first for the Eagles since the rivalry restarted in 2018; BC had won every prior meeting

2018 (THROWBACK SPECIAL!): James Atkins recorded five sacks to highlight a largely defensive minded game, a fixture of the old-school Diaco era. The defending national champs won 21-12 in a game played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA. Marcus Bradford recorded a pick six as well to help lead the charge. Offenses struggled mightily - BC's Marcus Outlow ran for 100 yards including a fourth quarter touchdown. Ron Johnson was held to under 50 yards rushing while David Hamilton completed just 10 of his 18 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown.

    SONG OF THE WEEK:

Alumni Stadium gets rowdy when The Killers' "Mr. Brightside" comes on over the loudspeakers. One of the school's newest traditions involves singing along, continuing when the music cuts out around the chorus. I'm not quite sure why this song is the one, but I'll expect to be hearing this at least a few times during the game, even if it's all in my head!

Here's a great clip from the 2017 Red Bandana Game blowout of FSU (credit to the uploader, I wish I had been at this game but I'll remember it for a long time anyway):

Got to utilize Jordan’s talents while we have him, I could easily see him being the #1 pick in the NFL Draft at season’s end. He’s really improved his accuracy and it looks as if his decision making has improved as well (just one interception in four games so far). The biggest question remains how will he fare in pressure situations, down late or when we need a touchdown to put a game away. Guys like Isaac Jackson were awesome in that area, making up for not so great arm strength or pocket presence. Jordan has all the tools that Ice-Jax, Tanner Dean-Lowry, David Hamilton and others never had, so it should be interesting to see what happens. There's no way we'll curb stomp everyone, so he'll need to continue to play well.

We lost a heartbreaker to BC last year in our place, I would imagine our guys will want to return the favor this time. I would expect a motivated squad, but we are still young and streaky and the game should be competitive. Looking forward to getting it up, thanks moose!

        (2) 76 --- 5-0, 2-0

        30 --- 2-4, 0-3

        “We’re Having FUN”

UConn obliterates rival Boston College in Chestnut Hill with modern-era school record 76 point outburst; Jordan Brown accounts for eight total touchdowns while defense remains a bit shaky despite career day from Kion East

Chamarkelle Byrom dives to reach a touchdown pass from Jordan Brown, one of ten total touchdowns for UConn on the night.

I’m not sure UConn has seen an offense quite like this. I’m not sure anyone in college football history has seen an offense quite like this.

A year after a heartbreaking loss last year in East Hartford, UConn was able to return the favor this year by handing the Eagles a blowout of historic proportions, a 76-30 drubbing unlike any other final score in team history. The 76 points UConn rang up is tied for the second most in school history, and the most since a 63-point showing against Kent State in 2002. While 76 is still well short of the 125 the Huskies scored against Newport Naval Training Station in 1949, 76 certainly remains a record for our dynasty that might stand until the very end.

What is even more fascinating, and perhaps unprecedented, about the scoring splurges seem to be how quickly they come for UConn. We have highlighted the absurd 40+ point runs the Huskies have gone on against UCF and Clemson, and they did it again today.

The Huskies’ previous high score in the first ten seasons of the dynasty was 58 against UMass in 2021. Today, UConn put up an eye-popping 56 points in the first half alone, including a 49-0 run starting late in the first quarter on a Jordan Brown quarterback sneak. Jordan officially threw his hat into the Heisman race by accounting for a school record eight total touchdowns, five through the air and three on the ground. Jordan also completed a sizzling 31 of his 40 passes for 425 yards, coupled with only one interception, just his second in five games so far this season.

UConn broke a tie game late in the first quarter with an interception return for a touchdown by inside linebacker Kion East, the other major star of the day. That interception would prove to be the first of three in the contest for the 6-foot-6 senior, a first-year starter and former safety. East, who has proven himself to be a leader for UConn’s young defense, also recorded eleven total tackles and a forced fumble in the second half in what was by far his best career game to date.

Kion East recorded his best career game to date: Eleven tackles, three interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), and a forced fumble.

UConn began to pour it on from that point. Jordan recorded his first two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter, and Chamarkelle Byrom caught a touchdown in the first quarter as well, diving in the end zone to get it. Alex Paige and Devin Brown added touchdown grabs in the second quarter to cap off quick, efficient scoring drives. Devin Brown continues to prove his value and his skill as a receiver, tallying a handful of athletic diving grabs and, on his touchdown, ducking below the grasp of a few Eagles defender before lowering his shoulder to get in the end zone.

BC's offense began to struggle to finish drives, giving away three first half turnovers, while several others simply stalled out and ended with punts. With UConn's offense operating at top speed, BC simply couldn't keep up.

Devin Brown often provides highlight reel material. He dove for one catch (LEFT), and ducks under a defender to fight for the end zone (RIGHT).

Already up 42-14 with the first half winding down, Marcus Rodgers added salt into the wound as he turned to the left, zigged around defenders and housed an 81 yard punt return with just 52 seconds remaining. After another BC three and out on the ensuing drive, UConn got the ball back at their own 42 yard line with time to at least get into field goal range.

UConn went for the jugular instead. Brown tossed up a heave-ho to Lonte’ Speier on a vertical route to the right sideline. Gaining a step on star corner Brad Royal, Speier broke free and sprinted into the end zone for a 58-yard strike, making the halftime tally an absurd 56-14.

UConn added two more touchdowns in the third quarter on Jordan’s third touchdown run and finally his eighth total touchdown a few minutes later, a 25-yard pitch and catch to Byrom. With the score at 70-23, Coach Stephen Belichick pulled all of UConn’s starters after just three quarters of action.

Speier raced past Brad Royal and scored UConn's eighth touchdown of the first half.

When all was said and done, all of UConn’s top three targets recorded 100+ yards: Speier (eight catches, 160 yards and a touchdown), Devin Brown (seven for 108 and a score), and Byrom (seven for 107 and two scores). Paige and Rodgers added ten receptions and a hundred yards between the two of them as well, while Mike Molden chipped in an easily overlooked 103 yards rushing on just nineteen carries.

“Everything we tried worked”, commented Jordan. “We’re really special when we play like this”. Offensive coordinator Dan Orlovsky agreed. “When we keep our guys focused, no one in the country can beat them”.

Keyword? When we keep them focused. For all of the deserved praise for the final score, there were still several points where the young Huskies looked sloppy and made mistakes that could hurt them later on. Molden lost a fumble, as did backup tailback Jon Shaffer. The offensive line allowed a safety in the third quarter.

The defense should receive some scrutiny too, as BC did manage to score 30 points and gain 424 yards of total offense. It looked early as if the Eagles were going to at least keep pace with UConn as they scored 14 points in the first five minutes of the game. The Eagles took the opening kickoff and quickly pieced together a 75-yard touchdown drive ending in a Shelton Herman 34-yard touchdown catch where he beat both of UConn’s safeties in deep zone coverage.

The Eagles caught another break when Marcus Rodgers coughed up a rare fumble, Kendrick Sharper recovering to give BC great field position. As was the case last year, Greg Jones continued to give the UConn defense problems, rushing into the end zone after five straight touches on that drive.

Cody Blake’s pick six to Kion East permanently shifted momentum away from the Eagles, but though they struggled to score, they had little issue moving the ball. Their drives simply stalled out or were ended by mistakes from the young quarterback. Jones gained 100 yards in total and added two rushing touchdowns, while Blake completed over half of his passes for 338 yards. Herman tallied eight catches for 145 yards and the touchdown.

Greg Jones (LEFT) and Shelton Herman (RIGHT) provided some of the offensive highlights for BC; Jones bullrushing Hughes and Herman shaking off the UConn defense for the game's first touchdown.

“We’ll do some review and make some adjustments if needed”, commented Coach Belichick.

While it was no concern today, UConn will certainly need to play a sharper game moving forward. Syracuse and Notre Dame lurk on UConn’s schedule in the next month, and a solid Pitt squad comes to Hartford next week.

But if you can score as well as UConn can, a lot of wonderful things can happen.

“Obviously we work hard and try to stay focused, but we’re having fun”, noted Jordan Brown after the game. “We’re playing really well right now and enjoying ourselves. I think that’s the most important part of the college game”.

As the season goes on and players sign with other teams, I try to keep up and edit their names/appearances as well to save me work down the line.

Keep in mind that I also used edited versions of mattrd39's two recruiting classes in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, which came with a diversified name pool. All freshmen, sophomores and juniors have edited names on all teams at this point, so all I need to do for other teams right now is edit the names/skin colors of any opposing upperclassmen I deem necessary.
Guru, I'll get to commenting on your game in a bit here (side note: WOW ), but I did want to ask about what you mentioned here with recruit editing. So I know you mentioned editing names in the editor so that you could get recruiting pictures from directly in-game. My question then becomes, what editor configs do you use and what things do you have to edit so that I can go about something similar! Like for instance, I use the Generic TB Editor which is based off of the NCAA Generic Editor. I then have been using Xan's Dynasty Config to load in and edit the file. Which editor combo do you use, and then which fields do you have to edit?

In Xan's Dynasty Config, I can see that really the only fields related to changing the recruits name is on the "Recruit Info" tab there is a first name field and a last name field. I'm hoping that's all I would need to modify without buggering up the file, because I don't see any other spots where those items are configured. Sorry to jam you up with these questions! I'm just very curious and wanted to start getting some of these edits in place for next season, and I'm nearing the end of my current season! Plus, learning from others who do something similar is great because it's much easier than trial and error of me breaking the file hahaha. Thanks man!

              76 points?!

Jordan Brown is having a season for the ages thus far. That TD to INT ratio is looking very sharp thus far.

Thanks man!
No worries moose, you’re on the right track. I use Xan’s Dynasty Config with Skulletor’s semi-modified editor. What you’ll need to do is edit the first and last names in those tabs, then type out the new name again in the Recruit ID tab to the left; all of this is done in the “Recruit Info” section. So if a name is Calvin Hall, change the first and last name columns to Shaquan Dillard and then replace Calvin Hall in the ID tab with Shaquan Dillard. If you’re a fast typer it will not take long.

That’s really all you need to know, any other edits are pretty self-explanatory (though I will state that faces run from roughly 1-99 for light skin, 105-160 for medium skin tones, 161-246ish for dark skin; a couple are kept off limits as designated faces for the Heisman challenge - to this day those faces scare the daylights out of me).

The GIF game remains sharp! I certainly wasn’t expecting 76 points, but when the opportunity came to pour it on, I couldn’t resist. Our offense is really special when we’re on.

Jordan has really turned his performance up a notch the past three weeks or so. I’ve stated before that Jordan has #1 overall pick talent, and I’m glad he’s finally playing at that level. We criticized his decision-making at times last year, but the 8:1 TD-INT ratio plus five rushing TD's for a statue quarterback is very strong. Hopefully he can keep playing well and deliver us our first Heisman winner and lead us back to the New Year's Six, most importantly.

                Thanks as always everyone!

UConn Recruiting: 4-star wideout Jones commits; other news

For an offense that needs some new faces due to forthcoming graduation and NFL Draft declaration, this is welcome news.

Four-star Louisiana wide receiver prospect Rymone Jones Jr. has become the second prospect to commit to UConn this season, following corner Syvelle Wade. Jones, from River Ridge, Louisiana, has become friends with UConn reserve running back Jon Shaffer in recent weeks, a fellow Louisiana native.

Jones Jr. looks to be a burner, checking in at just 5-foot-10 but with a 92 SPD rating. Jones projects to have a high ceiling; with only a 78 CTH rating and similar SPC and CIT ratings, the coaching staff can work with him to better develop his athleticism into a specialized position. He may see some playing time early, but if UConn's wide receiving core comes out of this season with a few returnees, Jones may take a redshirt next year.

Five Visitors to Hartford this Weekend

UConn will welcome five undecided prospects to campus for this weekend's conference matchup against Pitt.

Perhaps the most important prospects in this bunch are five-star tight end E.J. Skalnick from Iowa and wide receiver Shomar Webster from Florida. Webster is an advanced receiving prospect who could (and likely will) assuming a starting role from day one. Webster reminds the staff of Lonte' Speier, just not as athletic (85 CTH, 87 RTE, 82 SPC, 87 SPD).

Skalnick is the top tight end prospect in the country (25th overall), and definitely appears a tailor-made replacement for Alex Paige in a few years. Skalnick is an elite pass-catcher (84 SPD, 88 CTH, 85 SPC), who could use a redshirt year to develop his blocking attributes for UConn's run patterns. The Huskies are in a tight race for his services, competing with local power Oklahoma, as well as Michigan State and nearby Iowa State and Iowa.

Four-star center Stephon Ecker, also a Louisiana native, will be on campus this weekend. Ecker could jump into a starting center role immediately (80 PBK, 79 RBK, 81 IBK), and UConn appears to be in a tight race with Oklahoma at present.

The final two visitors are D.C. quarterback Cooper Steutel and Pennsylvania tailback De'Ante Stanley. Stanley, a fringe four-star prospect, and Steutel, a three-star prospect, are likely developmental players who could provide depth immediately but contribute in the long run.

                      Notable Misses

While not necessarily a bad thing, UConn has had trouble hauling in five-star, top-flight prospects over the years. They will lose out on at least a few more this year. Oklahoma has officially beaten UConn in races for five-star linebacker Chad Black and four-star corner/track star Khalil May. Coach Belichick had visions of May and Wade running around the secondary for years to come, and UConn could have easily landed both Black and May as they hail from nearby Maine and New York, respectively. Ultimately, UConn did not have the long football tradition that both sought out.

Oklahoma is on track to land the top class in the country, having also received a commitment from the nation's top prospect, athlete Kameryn Bentley from Keller, Texas.

UConn has also lost four-star athlete Damyen Decoven to Virginia Tech, and another important offensive line prospect to Western Kentucky in Shaq Thayer.

A full recap of this post can be found in one image down below. We'll continue to bring more UConn recruiting news as it becomes available.

It's my pleasure, CAC remains a personal favorite part of the dynasty and I'm glad it continues to keep some of you actively following the dynasty. I continue to root more for some CAC teams than UConn! I just wish CMU would have a little more success, but nothing is wrong with six-seven wins and a bowl every year.

                          GURU'S THOUGHTS

Kurt Roper has done a great job getting Pitt back to respectability, regularly having Pitt in the Top 25 in his six years with the program. The Panthers have struggled a bit this year though, having just fallen out of the national rankings following an ugly loss to a surprising Virginia team. Nevertheless, Pitt still possesses some talent and we should be taking this game seriously. The Panthers have a veteran quarterback in Jake Daughtry, two very good scatbacks in Robert Spurlock and Jontre Welles as well as a talented young wide receiver in Quennell Bell.

The Panthers also boast an unspectacular but solid defensive unit. Junior linebacker Kyle Hamlett and corner Bryan Smith are the stars of the unit; both should be NFL players very soon. Linebacker Joe Dyer may be the best player on that side of the ball right now, as he leads the team in sacks and tackles.

Despite all of the good, however, Pitt is 2-3 for a reason. Their team statistics are not great; they have struggled to score at times. Daughtry is more of a game manager, he's only thrown five touchdown passes this season. Bell is their only legitimate threat at wide receiver. So how can they win? UConn's run defense has shown weakness at times this season, so they will need to rely on Spurlock and Welles to keep things moving on the ground and through short pass plays.

If we can shut those running backs down and score on their decent secondary, we should win this game without issue. I don't think they have any game breaking defensive players that a team needs to slow down our passing attack.

                          MATCHUP HISTORY

                          2022 (LAST MATCHUP):

After a loss against UCF and a narrow win over Virginia Tech in recent weeks, UConn helped their fans breathe a sigh of relief with a solid 38-17 victory last year against the eleventh-ranked Panthers. UConn raced out to a 31-3 halftime lead and held on from there. Jordan Brown threw for two touchdowns, J.P. Byers chipped in 100 yards on the ground while Kent Newton, Aaron Brook and Tory Greening each recorded interceptions to help the cause.

Indeed - New England is not usually a hotbed for recruiting talent but I suppose outliers are always possible. He could have moved from Oklahoma for all we know! Coach Shea's USC squad has an All-American defensive tackle from Vermont, which never produces D-I talent. May not be realistic, but as someone from New England these outliers at least give me some folks to cheer for.

This article helps put things in perspective in real-life at least.

Huge to get up to the #1 rating again! It's obviously not the end of the campaign yet but it's nice to be at the summit of the football world if only just for a week. I know Jordan is looking to continue to stack up his Heisman numbers, so even if I'm rooting for you haha, I'm hoping that my Panthers put up a respectable showing! That said it's not looking good for Pitt.

Some big prospects on the board, I know you have a lot of talent at receiver that may be leaving so that is definitely the biggest potential get of all of those guys visiting. Maine is funny, I've found some good talent there, even if they don't have a ton of prospects. I have 2 different defensive ends from Maine now that both came in a 4 stars, oddly enough.
