As for DeLorenzo having bad stamina I don't know what to tell you about that, specially if you don't have faith in your 2nd string back. Depending on the offensive sets you run maybe try and throw in some FB dives and WR sweeps? When I'm playing the AI and I want my #1 back to get a break without actually letting my #2 touch the ball I'll spell my HB and then run a WR sweep, or a FB dive. Something along those lines, so that my lead back gets a break but my #2 back doesn't actually get an opportunity to f#ck something up
    Heart stat is fake haha.

But when you rally your team from an 0-3 start and finish 6-6, there is some serious heart shown by the leader there.

I don't like running WR sweeps, we don't have any electric receivers (unless I put Newsome in as a formation sub). Besides, on this game I can't get any positive yards on those types of plays.

      UConn lands two more commits

UConn has received commitments from two targets after their loss to Tulsa on Saturday.

The first commit is 3* Linebacker Tim Duchane, the 4th linebacker to commit to UConn this season.

Duchane appears to be a little disappointing based on early scouting reports, but is a welcome presence nonetheless. The speed/acceleration are there, tackling looks good and he is right on the border of having the size and skill to rotate into a 4-3 defense as an end if necessary, similar to Brian Orakpo of the Washington Redskins.

Duchane likely won't start immediately, but could play early and develop into a star with time.

The second commit is 3* athlete Jeff McNeal. He has been playing wide receiver most of his high school career, but will definitely be better suited for a scat back spot, as he has shown stone hands at times.

McNeal is a freak athlete, as he brings top-end speed/acceleration, and may finally be that guy who has the size to be an every down back or compliment a Ron Johnson-type back, and excel on sweeps and out of the wildcat in the rare instances Coach Diaco runs it.

McNeal could even play some corner or safety, judging by reports from our scouts who have seen him play there when secondary depth was thin on his H.S. team.

Whatever the staff decides to do with McNeal, he is definitely going to be special.

McNeal sounds like the perfect guy to compliment Ron Johnson next season, specially since you don't have real faith in Marriner. With McNeal's top end speed I'm sure he'll be a heck of a return specialist too

I know some people who live in Bethesda. Loving that signing. You need more guys from CT. If it weren't for UConn, all of our HS football stars would be stuck with UMass if they wanted an FBS scholarship.

              Thanks for dropping in.

If you're familiar with MrHurriicane's Minnesota dynasty on Youtube, he has a guy (David McClelland) who plays WR and CB. McNeal could be exactly that, except he isn't a JUCO like McClelland. His future definitely looks bright.

Yeah, again, I just don't know why I have no faith in Marriner. He gets the job done, but is not really great. I don't know, maybe I'm looking for a big play in a bottle or something. McNeal's speed rated out at a 94 (scouted him after he committed). He'll be up higher in no time, especially if I redshirt him (No idea if I will at this stage).

              I wholeheartedly agree.

With a few other targets (including that 4* guard Parrish) from in-state close to committing, I'm really banking on these guys to cement the core for the future.

                    Road Warriors

Husky D, run game stifle ECU late, move to 3-1 away from The Rent

Max DeLorenzo had possibly the greatest game of his career today.

                    Well that feels better.

UConn, after a phenomenal performance out of the run game and defense in the second half, topped ECU on the road, and picked up win #3 of 2015.

But, can UConn keep winning against better AAC teams?

After today, I'm not so sure this could be the case.

The first half went back and forth, as the two teams traded TD's most of the way.

Kamal Abrams kicked off the scoring, grabbing a slant route, spinning around the ECU defender and dragging another into the end zone.

ECU responded, as Blake Kemp strung together runs of 14 and 16, as well as a pair of passes to Isaiah Jones and tailback Chris Hairston to knot the game at 7.

After a punt from UConn, Hairston broke off a 72 yard TD run to put the Pirates up 14-7.

Bryant Shirreffs moved UConn downfield very quickly, and after 5 straight completions, hit Sean McQuillan for a 22 yard gain, went no huddle and threw a dime to Brian Lemelle, also for 22 yards, that would tie the game back up at 14.

On an ECU punt deep in their own territory, Arkeel Newsome had a great chance to give the Huskies good field position. Instead, he muffed it.

                    So much for that.

ECU scored on the next drive.

Josh Marriner capped off a great next drive with a 1 yard TD dive.

ECU looked to try and score again quickly, but Kemp was picked off by rising star John Green and Noel Thomas caught the go-ahead TD from Shirreffs with 15 seconds left in the half.

That would prove huge, as the scoring really slowed down in the second half.

Well, after ECU's 4th TD of the game on the first drive after the half, that is.

Shirreffs threw 2 INT's (both tipped into defenders' hands), and ECU punted. However, they took the lead back, 35-28, on a Hairston 6 yard TD.

The ensuing kickoff return was brought back by Newsome to the ECU 35, and it took 3 plays before Max DeLorenzo took a toss 17 yards to the house, spinning past defenders and getting an excellent block at the 5 by center Kyle Bockeloh.

With the game once again tied, the offense virtually stopped until the start of the 4th quarter.

With Shirreffs out of the game temporarily with a bone bruise, Tim Boyle came in and Bob Diaco hit a revelation.

The ECU punt was downed at the UConn 3, and essentially needed to run their way out until Shirreffs came back on the next drive. DeLorenzo got the first 4 touches of the drive, 7, 2, 5 and 3 respectively. Boyle went for 9 on a QB draw and Marriner would get the next two. After a 14 yard run, Marriner took a stretch and beat most of the ECU defense down the right sideline for a 42 yard pickup.

DeLorenzo ran for 15 yards, and Marriner capped off the all-rush drive with a 2 yard TD, which gave the Huskies the 42-35 lead.

A lead they would not relinquish.

Jamar Summers, another rising star in the UConn secondary, swatted away two Kemp passes, forced a 3 and out, UConn punted again, and Summers picked off Kemp. UConn got a first down, sat on the ball and locked up their first AAC win of the year.

With UConn's record back at 3-3, the Huskies travel back home to face Cincinnati, who has been slightly underwhelming this year.

Will the run game work against Cincy next week, considering how poor the ECU line was?

Congrats on the first conference win of the year. It's nice to see your run game actually come through for once, specially Marriner who made a big impact with limited carries. Looks like maybe he's trying to gain some trust from the coaches and work his way into getting some more carries? It'll be interesting to see what Coach Diaco does next week

Yeah, who knows. Hopefully this will carry over going forward (not necessarily Cincy next week, they have the most talent in the conference), but we'll see.

I'm not sure what to expect next week on offense, Cincy has a lot of good defenders. We may need to pick and choose who and where to attack.

                            The Curse of the Rent

UConn pounded by Cincy D, lose 4th out of 5

This is getting tough to watch.

I understand Cincy has likely the most talent of any team in the AAC this year, but we should not ever be held in a straight jacket on offense like that.

Bryant Shirreffs had a day to forget, throwing 5 picks and being benched briefly in the second half. He was sacked 9 times, 3 by Silverberry Mouhon, and had a ton of trouble getting anything going.

So much so in fact, that UConn only mustered 8 yards of total offense in the first quarter while Cincy ran all over the defense and took advantage of key mistakes (Jhavon Williams dropping an INT in the end zone, Rod Moore scored a play later; Mekale McKay wide open 43 yards downfield, Tion Green ran in a TD the next play.)

Tion Green (#7) had a monster day for the Bearcats.

Luckily, UConn went into the break only down 21-14, with the game still well in reach.

Well, it was within reach until Matthew Walsh, the little used fullback who finally got a catch, had the ball ripped out and recovered by Kevin Brown.

Luckily, Gunner Kiel was sacked and Cincy punted, and set off a string of punts from each side.

Green would run in a 3 yard score a few drives later and give the Bearcats a 28-14 lead, and nearly broke the game open after a Mike Tyson INT.

With Cincy driving, Graham Stewart destroyed Green and the ball popped free. Marquise Vann scooped it up and ran it back 70 yards for the TD, getting UConn right back into the game and finally giving the home crowd some momentum.

While Cincy tacked on a field goal at the end of the 3rd and again midway through the 4th, a comeback was still possible.

But it only fell apart, sadly.

Arkeel Newsome had a great kickoff return, to the UConn 41, but the Huskies only gained 3 yards and punted.

The defense forced another 3 and out, but Shirreffs couldn't muster any positive yardage and the Huskies punted.

In a last ditch effort, Grant Coleman picked off a Shirreffs pass with a buck 30 on the clock.

Though the Huskies scored at the end of the game, it wasn't enough and the Curse of the Rent continues in 2015. The Huskies fall to 3-4 (1-3), with a 0-3 record at home, with an ever fluctuating situation on offense.

Max DeLorenzo, who had a breakout game last week, only got 33 yards on 14 carries, and tailback Josh Marriner couldn't get on the field either.

Shirreffs had his rough day, and he will need to recover to give UConn a chance next week in Houston.

And he'll need it, as UConn would absolutely love a win here to stay away from the brink of missing a bowl game.

Can they get it? Tune in next time to find out...

Yeah, this is going to hurt especially because Cincy is underachieving a lot this year, and we got them in their place last year. Green was a load to bring down, that's for sure.

Schedule only gets tougher from here, Houston next week, winless Tulane after but East-leading UCF in 3 weeks.

With the 6 picks, I felt I forced a lot in the second half, a product of being down and having no chance of running the ball (Mouhon controlled the left side of the line and the linebackers clogged right all day.) Being under pressure ( the O-Line has been a little weak this year) doesn't exactly help, either.
