Well, while it won't be a Beef-O-Brady's Bowl, we have a great shot at the New Year's Six, and we'll see what happens after Temple. I think Diaco called a press conference, said it was something about smelling roses?

Haha. I wish Po1soNNN were here to see this. He'd be elated.

Good to hear from you harlee, thanks for the comment!

Marshall (led by yours truly as offensive coordinator, haha) is having a season to remember. Kevin Olsen (Miami-FL transfer) is, as you saw 2 posts up, leading the Heisman race and smashing records like crazy. The offense also features a stable group of running backs and is about 7 or 8 deep at receiver, all could start at major programs. Very interesting renaissance as they went 7-5 last season.

With that said, here is the Create-A-Coach Sign up form for new followers (like you, Harlee). If you wish to be a little more interactive with me in this 'chise, fill out a coach submission form and I'll insert you into the game as a coordinator at a mid-major school in hopes that you can carve out your road to coaching glory with Coach Diaco. You can PM this to me or post it right in here, either way works. I need submissions by the end of the weekend, if at all possible, otherwise, depending on how things go, I may keep it open until the middle of the week.

REMEMBER: Folks already with a coach in the 'chise are NOT allowed to submit another at this juncture.

Completely optional, as always, but it's a lot of fun, I do updates in with the Around the NCAA post and it will be really neat having 10-15 different followers with coaches in 2-3 seasons, hopefully all at head coaching jobs.

CAC Entry Form (Bold Fields = Required)

          Name:
          Age:
          Skin Color: (Light, Medium, Dark)

          Body Size: (Small, Medium, Large)
          Head:
          Apparel:
          Hat/Glasses (Optional)
          Alma Mater:
Offensive Philosophy/Playbook: (You can describe your style or give a playbook)
          Defensive Philosophy/Playbook: (Same as above)
          Sub Frequency (Offense, Defense)
          Specialty: (Offense or Defense)
Coaching Style: (Example: Laid Back or High Energy?)

Any other information to consider for selecting initial job?

            Walk this Way!

Puyol sends UConn home winners...again, return to Rent for AAC Title Game

What would we do without Bobby Puyol kicking field goals? Sadly, following the next 2 games we will find out. But that's not important. Puyol kicked his (if I'm counting right) 5th career walk-off field goal in a road win to escape a dangerous Temple team 31-28, and preserve a potential New Year's Six bowl game opportunity.

It was a game in which, once again, the UConn defense caved, as All-American candidate Jahad Thomas ran wild over the front 7 and racked up over 200 yards of O. Yet, the Huskies were able to find a way to keep themselves in the game and take advantage late, much like most every other game this season.

UConn fell behind after Temple's first drive as Thomas bulled for runs of 17 and 15, and Nate Hairston's 15 yard catch set up P.J. Walker's 1 yard dive.

UConn's next drive collapsed midway through, and a trio of 3 and outs ensued. Temple had a great chance to push the lead to double digits at the half, but on a 3rd and long, Walker was destroyed by Luke Carrezola while he was well on his way to a first down, and had to settle for a long 58 yard field goal, which they missed.

UConn took over with a minute to go, and Josh Marriner broke off runs of 10, 6, 6, 4 and 2, and Tommy Myers cut off 2 catches to pull within 3 yards of the end zone. Bryant Shirreffs' slant pass to Dhameer Bradley connected for a 3 yard TD. After a very sloppy first half, we were tied at 7. Serves the offense right.

Thomas opened up the second half's scoring following a UConn 3 and out with a 34 yard TD scamper, breaking tackles and leaving a trail of whiffing UConn defenders behind him.

UConn was able to pound the rock in the end zone on the next drive, however, as Ron Johnson's 1 yard TD run tied the game again at 14.

Temple got a pair of 10+ yard plays to start the following drive, but Jamar Summers victimized Walker, and UConn was able to get a 31 yard catch from Damon Mitchell, which led to a 1 yard Marriner tap-in for birdie..er...touchdown.

Walker was able to respond at the start of the 4th for Temple, though, as he broke off a 64 yard read option, which was originally blown up by Junior Joseph in the backfield before Walker somehow shook the tackle. No one else was left on the right side of the field, and Walker dashed to the house.

Bradley's 23 yard gain and Marriner's 20 yard dash for UConn set up a Marriner 4 yard TD, which Matthew Walsh set up with a beautiful block out to the left, UConn had the lead 28-21.

Thomas was able to tie the game once again, the enviable one-play drive for Temple, but this set up UConn with lots of time (5 minutes), and no hurry to perhaps win the game.

Myers' 17 yard grab got the drive rolling, and UConn coasted downfield, reeling off runs and passes of 10, 6, 8, 6 and 5 to pull within 7 yards of a victory, and time within 30 seconds.

Marriner centered the ball, and UConn called a timeout with a second remaining. Puyol came on, and, like the boss he is, drilled the 26 yarder for another Husky win!

Much unlike last year, Temple definitely gave UConn a scare, but once again, it was UConn being able to stick in the game and getting a key defensive stop (Summers' INT that led to a score) that contributed to the win.

On to the AAC Title Game against Houston, the only team that will go bowling from the AAC West this year. Obviously we beat them earlier in the year in the Rent, and Houston returns. Will the result be the same? Stay tuned.

*******Sorry folks, can't find my box score. I know I wrote it down, but can't find it in my notes. Too late now, as I've gone ahead into the offseason, I'm just trying to catch up. *******

I just wanted you to see this. One win away from (maybe) the CFP, if not a New Year's Six Game. You should be proud of our work here.

Just may be the biggest game in the history of the Rent, beating out the Michigan game in 2013 that I was at.

It was definitely a fun game to be at though. UConn was up for the first 3 quarters, but Michigan, who was ranked, came back to score 14 in the 4th and win 24-14. You could hear the deflation of the crowd when that happened. But the atmosphere was great. About 5,000 seats were added in for the game, for Michigan fans/alumni, many from NYC, and the Wolverines made the UConn band play Hail to the Victors before the game started. Even Derek Jeter was there, a childhood fan of the team, growing up in Kalamazoo.

I remember turning that game off at one point because I was so disgusted with how Michigan was playing. We should've beaten you guys like 42-14 IMO... I didn't know all that other stuff though, that's pretty cool.

Real Talk with J.D.: What are UConn's chances at the College Football Playoff?

Welcome to the first (and hopefully not last) installment of Real Talk, I am J.D.

Today, we examine the prospects of UConn going to the College Football Playoff. Unless you've lived under a rock in the last week, you've known that UConn has shot up to #6 in the latest polls, putting them in the College Football Playoff discussion.

To start, let's look at the Conference Championship Games this week.

                                American: Houston (8-4) vs. #6 UConn (11-1)
                                C-USA: #4 North Texas (11-1) vs. #1 Marshall (12-0)
SEC: Ole Miss (8-4) vs. #7 South Carolina (9-3)
MWC: Fresno St. (7-5) vs. Boise St. (9-3)
                                Pac-12: #23 Oregon (9-3) vs. #3 UCLA (10-1)
                                ACC: #10 Clemson (10-2) vs. #8 Virginia (8-3)
                                Big 10: #12 Minnesota (9-3) vs. #2 Michigan (10-2)
MAC: Western Michigan (6-6) vs. Kent St. (7-5)

Lots of heavy hitters playing this week, including 4 of the top 5 in the CFP polls, and 8 of the top 10.

The biggest game this weekend is clearly the C-USA game, featuring two cinderellas in #1 Marshall and #4 North Texas. This outcome is the most important one this weekend, as it can produce two completely different outcomes in the CFP.

If Marshall wins, they lock up the #1 seed unanimously, and invite a team like #5 Wisconsin, or our UConn Huskies, into the 4 seed.

But should North Texas win, they will be locked in. Marshall would likely be kept in due to their 12-1 record, and depending upon how things go in the other games, the top 4 may not change at all.

Michigan and UCLA are in if they win. Both face rather formidable opponents, in a Minnesota team the made the CFP last year, and Oregon, champions in 2014.

So where does UConn fit in? Should any of the top 4 fall out, Wisconsin is likely the first to move up, even though they probably do not deserve it with their 9-3 record, and only 6 wins in conference. From there, UConn and South Carolina (provided they win) would be next in the pecking order, but I'd still imagine UConn would want South Carolina to lose to feel safe in being the 2nd team out.

After them, the winner of the ACC Title Game (Clemson or Virginia) would be next.

Basically, UConn needs a bit of help to get to the CFP. But, you just never know.

                                Oh no worries.

I remember that game too. I think I fell asleep after half but definitely recall that (and the Akron game the week prior) being the game that brought the temporary demise of Michigan, and nationally exposed Brady Hoke as nothing more than an average coach.

I love talking about this stuff.
