      Week 1 Recap

      Titans Squeak By Steelers 20-19

It wasn't pretty, but the Titans got the 2015 season off with a much needed win, as a last minute 29 yard field goal propelled them to a 20-19 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger led the Steelers into Titans territory over and over again, but Pittsburgh was forced to settle for only 1 TD and five field goal attempts.

Zach Mettenberger played a mistake free game, and Kendall Wright led the receiving corps with 6 catches for 122 yards, including a third quarter, 42 yard TD scamper that put the Titans up for the first time in the game, 17-16. Big Ben and company would regain the lead midway through the fourth when David Akers converted his fourth field goal of the game to make it 19-17. Mettenberger and co. methodically came back down the field and kicked the go ahead score with 29 seconds left.

Roethlisberger was able to hit Lance Moore and Heath Miller on back to back passes in the final seconds, setting up David Akers for a potential game winning 57 yard kick. His efforts were wide left, and possibly short as well, as the Titans escaped with the victory.

For the Steelers: With Le'Veon Bell out with an injury, Roethlisberger relied on the short passing game, but was only 22 of 46 for 223 yards and 1 TD. Lance Moore led the way with 10 catches for 115 yards. On the ground, Dri Archer added 51 yards on 14 carries.

For the Titans: Mettenberger looked efficient, going 21 of 34 for 302 yards with 1 TD and 0 INT. Kendall Wright (6-122-1) was his favorite target, along with Delanie Walker who caught 5 passes for 65 yards. Justin Hunter and Nate Washington were held to two catches each, and 15 yards total.

On the ground, a balanced attack of Bishop Sankey (10 rush, 47 yards) and Shonn Greene (11 rush, 38 yards) kept the Steelers' D honest. Dexter McCluster added 28 yards on the ground and 23 receiving.

The Titans travel to Houston next week to battle the 1-0 Texans.

Good looking dynasty here, man. Following. Though I doubt the Titans take Mariota in real life this April, it's an interesting idea to think about.

Divisional matchup in the AFC South... Titans will face their second consecutive team missing there starting running back... A win for Tennessee would match their win total from 2014.

Titans Squeak By in Overtime 27-24

The Tennessee Titans jumped out to an early 14-0 lead on the road against the Houston Texans, almost reverted back to their old selves in giving the game away, then finally mustered up a huge play in overtime to down the Texans, 27-24.

An early Ryan Fitzpatrick INT put the Titans in prime position early in the first quarter, and Zach Mettenberger hit Delanie Walker from 10 yards out for an early 7-0 lead. On the Texan's next possession, reserve running back Alfred Blue - filling in for the injured Arian Foster - fumbled the ball away, and the Titans capitalized again. Bishop Sankey plunged in from one yard out, giving Tennessee a 14-0 lead not even half-way through the first quarter.

Because of the early lead, the Titans featured a conservative offensive approach for most of the first quarter, feeding Sankey and Shonn Greene early and often. Fitzpatrick and Houston could not muster much of an offense, until a scoring toss late in the second quarter to Deandre Hopkins cut the lead to 14-7 at half.

The Titans expanded their lead to 21-7 early in the third on a Mettenberger strike to Kendall Wright, one of his three catches in the game. A field position battle ensued for most of the third quarter, with Houston punter Shane Lechler becoming the star. He pinned the Titans inside their three yard line on three consecutive punts, the third one resulting in a safety on the Titans' first offensive play. After the free kick, and excellent field position, Houston put together their best offensive drive of the game, and cut the lead to 21-16 early in the fourth quarter on an Alfred Blue six yard scamper.

After trading punts, Tennessee took the ball with a little over five minutes left in the game. Again featuring the running game and milking the clock, Ryan Succop kicked a 36 yard field goal to give the Titans an 8 point lead with just a minute left, and a Ryan Fitzpatrick-led offense would need to travel 80 yards for a score and convert a two point conversion to send it to overtime.

Shockingly, Fitpatrick mustered up a brilliant drive, and hit Andre Johnson with fourteen seconds left to cut the score to 24-22. A successful 2 point conversion capped off the dramatic comeback, and the Texans held all the momentum heading into OT.

Good thing for the Titans, though, that Ryan Fitzpatrick reverted to his normal self, throwing an INT to Bernard Pollard his first attempt in the extra period. A few runs up the middle lined up Tennesee, and Ryan Succup nailed a game winning 34 yard field goal to seal the victory, 27-24.

Zach Mettenberger finished the game 16 of 26 for 176 yards, 2 TD and 1 INT (on a Hail Mary to end regulation).

Bishop Sankey totaled 67 yards and a score on 20 carries, and Shonn Greene added 67 yards as well on 14 carries. Kendall Wright led the Titans with 3 catches for 46 yards and a score. Justin Hunter added 33 yards on 4 receptions.

The Titans host the Chargers in Week 3.
