              Spartans fall short, lost 21-14

San Jose, Ca - Thursday night was an emotional night for the Spartans. Just a few days ago the team received notice that the offensive coordinator would be stepping down, so the team had to rush to find one. Team officials settled on Collin Suby to be that man, and he was under a lot of pressure never coaching a college football game before. There were a lot of questions going into the game, and many of those questions are still unanswered. You don't have to look far to see what style of play Suby runs. He loves to air the ball out, throwing 42 times Thursday. The 2 touchdowns David Fales threw would not be enough however as they lost 21-14. With 4 minutes left in the game the Spartans were driving, but were held short on a 3rd and 6. Coach Suby had to make a decision, kick or go for it. He chose to go for it, running a shotgun run up the middle, but was held short by the opposing Nose Tackle. The Spartans went on to score a garbage touchdown late. The Spartans travel to #3 Stanford next week, for a huge test on the road.

              Post Game interview

Q - You guys had a lot of great drives in this game, but never seemed to finish. Is that on you, or your players?

It's a little of both. There was some times in the game that I thought I was making a great call, but it didn't pan out. The biggest example is the 4th and inches late in the game. I thought with our offensive line we would be able to power through up the middle, but we didn't. That is on me, because we have a great passing game. I should have thrown the ball, but I didn't. I'll learn though.
Q - You threw the ball 42 times tonight. Do you think you will become to 1 dimensional and teams will begin to catch on to your play?

No I don't. Teams know were going to throw the ball, it is no secret. We have one of the best Quarterbacks in David Fales, and he will be able to get the job done. Our offensive line didn't play good tonight. If they pick it up that will help our passing and running game.
Q - You head to Stanford next week, what is the plan going into that game?

They have a loud crowd, and they are a very good team. We are going to have to stay composed, and put up a lot of points. They have one of the best defenses in the country, so it is going to be tough but I think we can do it. We are going to have to run the ball better than we did tonight to have a shot however. I'll see you next week. Thanks for your time.
