Should be a good game here against the Irish as long as you can keep yourself from looking ahead. Their line is pretty banged up which should help you on the defensive side of the ball and I am expecting Jean to just toast those cornerbacks. Looking forward to seeing how you do!

I was going to comment on the SPD rating of Chip McRae (97), but, then I saw your CBs and their SPD ratings. I'm thinking some press zone might in the gameplan??? Or at least some coverage audibles to it.

I really like the matchup of Jean versus their corners. I'm hoping to get him singled up somehow against their CB Alex Barr and FS Greg Johnson. I will be targeting those two a ton.

My main concern is their passing game. We have struggled mightily against the pass.

I will play mostly man with a little cover 2 mixed in. I will have to keep my eye on McRae at all times. I am also concerned about their RB; he looks like a stud. We need to get an early lead in this one. If they hang around, things could get scary.

Thanks for the advice fellas...Time to fire it up for some early Saturday A.M. action!

Ohmagawd... I was on the first page and saw the first code: section pop up and wow that brought back some good memories. Glad to see you're posting here and I totally relate to the snails pace you're talking about. Or sometimes a months-long hiatus when life is just too busy. I start school against next Tuesday. I need that degree after I dropped out of college the first time, for the sake of my career so I feel another hiatus coming myself.

God you got some freaks in that 2019 recruiting class. I think I remember this version of NCAA, there were some beasts every single year. I STILL remember an 84 speed defensive tackle with 90+ strenth in one of my leagues. Top candidate to play above his rating would be Ishmael Allen. I think you have one of the fastest teams I can recall seeing in a long time.
            Have to catch up later

              My boy Hellisan...another MaddenMania original.

Glad you liked the code throwback...To tell you the truth, thinking back on it, I think I learned that from you back in the day.

I totally feel you on the time thing. It is just so hard these days. I get about 30 minutes of free time to myself every weekday morning before getting ready to work, and that gives me a little time to get my reporting stuff done and recruiting. I only have the necessary 90 minute window to play an actual game on weekends though, and even then, it is somewhat of a balancing act. That kid in me still enjoys the games, but a lot of times the adult in me would rather be in the living room hanging with the wifey.

I specifically recruited I. Allen for special teams play. I always try to target 1 to 2 star LBs and CBs with insane speed just so they can play on my kickoff and punt coverage teams. He has a chance to win a job down the line as a situational pass rusher though. I have to get that speed onto the field at some point and see what he can do.

Thanks for checking in man...very glad to hear from one of the O.G.'s that got me hooked on this whole reporting thing.

                Game 5, Year 10 (2019 season): #19 Notre Dame at #1 Tulane

                #19 21 -- 3-2
                #1. 40 -- 5-0

Tulane junior TE Roger Battle beats overwhelmed Irish freshman FS Greg Johnson to the seam, catching a wide open pass and racing 77 yards for an early third quarter touchdown that helped extend the Wave's lead to 23-14. Johnson was a frequent target of head coach D. Geezy's offensive play-calling.

MONSTER DAY FROM TE BATTLE HELPS TULANE OVERCOME EARLY MISTAKES, PULL AWAY IN THE SECOND HALF TO DEFEAT NOTRE DAME 40-21

Former blue chip recruit has career day, hauls in 8 receptions for 164 yards and 4 touchdowns | Late first half momentum swing helps catapult top-ranked Green Wave to 5-0 on the season | QB Fields continues his tear, throws for 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions for a third consecutive game | Green Wave looks to avenge 2017 BCS Title game loss next Saturday night at #5 USC

New Orleans, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave found themselves in unfamiliar territory, down 14-9 to visiting Notre Dame with under two minutes remaining in the half. However a costly gamble by the Irish in the final moments before halftime resulted in a Tulane touchdown which gave the Wave the lead for good, and the home team would eventually pull away for a 40-21 victory Saturday afternoon at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Notre Dame (3-2) took an early lead on the very first play from scrimmage when RB Joel Brown broke two tackles on his way to an 80-yard touchdown that gave the Irish a 7-0 lead just seconds into the game.

Following a pair of Tulane field goals that made the score 7-6, the Irish would extend their lead early in the second quarter when Green Wave WR Chris Kane took a jet sweep handoff and was nailed behind the line of scrimmage and fumbled the football. Irish LB Nick McKenzie would scoop up the loose ball out of the scrum and return it 39 yards for a touchdown, giving his team a 14-6 lead.

Later, with 1:10 remaining before the halftime break while holding onto a 14-9 lead, the Irish faced a 4th and inches from the Tulane 48-yard line and lined up to punt. However they decided to snap the ball to their personal protector upback, RB Carl Wheatley, who would be stuffed behind the line of scrimmage for a 1-yard loss, turning the ball over on downs to the Green Wave.

Since taking over for injured starter Jimmy Williams, redshirt senior QB Preston Fields has kept the Wave offense rolling, throwing for 12 touchdowns and 0 interceptions through three games.

On the ensuing Tulane possession, facing a third and long with under a minute remaining in the half following a sack on the previous play, redshirt senior QB Preston Fields found freshman WR Ryan Jean on a streak pattern for a 52-yard gain which put the Green Wave deep in Irish territory at the 8-yard line with 0:22 remaining. Two plays later, Fields would find junior TE Roger Battle for an 8-yard score, giving the Green Wave its first lead of the game at 16-14 with :08 to go in the half.

"Needless to say, that was a critical juncture in the game," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"I felt like prior to the fake punt, our opponent had the momentum squarely in their hands and the sequence that occurred really swung the tide of the game into our favor and really changed the entire complexion of the contest."

The Tulane offense, despite being without emerging RB B.J. Johnson, who left the game in the first quarter with back spasms following an early 28-yard run, would continue to roll in the second half. Fields connected with Battle again on the first drive of the third quarter for a long 77-yard touchdown which extended Tulane's lead to 23-14.

"There were a couple of matchups that we felt gave us an advantage versus their secondary, particularly at safety," said Geezy.

"They have a couple of freshman players starting at their safety spots and we wanted to attack them pretty heavily. We thought we'd have more opportunities over the top outside with our receivers, but by halftime we realized that the seam would be a better attack area, especially in regards to the tight end position."

The Irish would pull to within two when WR Andy Hawkins took a goal line carry into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown that made the score 23-21 with 4:08 remaining in the third quarter. However that would be the final time Notre Dame would dent the scoreboard.

Fields and Battle hooked up for two more touchdowns, one near the end of the third quarter and another in the fourth quarter, as Tulane would go on to score 17 unanswered points to close out the game. Fields finished the game 21 of 40 for 347 yards and 4 touchdowns with no interceptions. It was his third straight game throwing for 4 scores and no picks.

The star of the game however was Battle. The former blue chip prospect from Destrehan, Louisiana, finished with 8 receptions for 164 yards and 4 touchdowns, all career-highs. Battle had only caught a total of 4 touchdown passes in each of his first two seasons.

"Roger is a player that we recruited very heavily a couple of years back and as a matter of fact, my family and I currently resides in Destrehan, so I got to see a lot of his games and he and his family are good friends of ours," said Geezy.

"Thinking back on his time in high school, we knew we were getting a very smart and athletic player with uncanny speed (90 spd rating) for the tight end position. His film at the high school level was outstanding and the way he has performed here in 2+ seasons has been tremendous. Today was really a coming out party for him and we'll continue to try to expand his role in this offense. We think he has superstar potential and quite frankly has been underutilized until now."

Tulane (5-0) will travel to Los Angeles next week to take on #5 USC (4-0). The game will mark the first meeting between the two schools since the 2017 BCS National Championship Game, a game the Trojans won 20-13. In that game, Green Wave senior Heisman trophy winning RB Reggie Moore caught a pass on the final play of regulation and was tackled just one yard shy of tying the score as time expired, giving the 2017 Sears National Championship Trophy to USC. The Green Wave has not lost a game since, and are currently on a 19-game winning streak.

Notes: Tulane junior starting DT Thomas Freeman (83 overall) suffered a broken tailbone early in the second quarter and, according to team sources, is expected to miss 8 to 10 weeks, which effectively puts him out for the remainder of the regular season. More-than-capable sophomore DT Aaron Jacobs (84 overall) will take Freeman's place in the lineup, however the team is now dangerously thin on DT depth, with redshirt senior DT Jesse Sanders (76 overall) remaining as the only back-up defensive tackle on the roster...Tulane's win marked its 35th consecutive victory at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, moving them just one win shy of tying the 2001-2003 USC Trojans' 36-game home winning streak for the 13th longest home winning streak in college football history.

Nice win against the Irish. For a minute there, it looked like they might catch you looking ahead to your matchup with USC. Fields continues to impress and has really come into his own. I am hoping Johnson will not miss any extended time with those back spasms.

A huge game coming up for you against USC. I remember the bitter agony of that NC game and I am hoping you can pay them back in kind this time around. I cannot wait to see how this one turns out.

                    Thanks Cheese...

Johnson will be back for this one. It is amazing just how effective he is compared to our higher rated "starter," Bernie Davis. Davis is playing like TRASH meanwhile Johnson is breaking runs left and right.

I'm really looking forward to this game, and hearing the Trojan march song. This is one of those historical venues in college football and I am sure it will be surreal watching/playing with Tulane in such a meaningful game in that building, similar to our Florida State game in the last season prior to this new story line.

2017: Moore gets tackled one yard short of the goal line on final play versus USC in 2017 BCS title game
Last Meeting: This game will mark the first rematch of the 2017 BCS National Championship Game, a 20-13 USC victory in Pasadena, California. After catching a pass from the slot receiver position, Green Wave Heisman Trophy winning RB Reggie Moore was tackled one yard shy of the goal line on the game's final play, and in effect, the final play of his career.

Last Meeting at Venue: The last times these two teams played in Los Angeles was in 1942, a game which saw Tulane defeat USC 27-13, the Green Wave's only victory in school history over the Trojans. Including 2017's BCS National Championship Game, Tulane is 1-3 all-time versus USC.

I'm seriously considering scheduling a home-and-home with USC in my Tulane 'chise. I think the Coliseum would be a great place to play a game at. I'll probably make it part of my "Honor Roll Series". You know, USC's good academics and all.

While Battle had a huge day against the Irish, once again, it was Ryan Jean who set-up the pivotal swing in momentum before half with that 52-yard reception! This kid is amazing!

On that fumbled jet sweep, where on the field did you run it? I tend to run my gadgets between the 40's. Sorry if I missed it, but, I was just curious when/where you like to take your shots with some "trickery."

Looking forward to a MONSTER game with USC!

That's exactly what I am doing, a home and home. I will likely open next season with USC at the dome. In fact, I had planned to open the season with them this year, but when I saw that LSU was auto-generated in week 2 for me, I decided I'd rather open the season/dynasty rebirth with a home game against our top rival.

I can't remember exactly what yard line it was but I do remember being hit about a yard behind the LOS and the defender returned it 39 yards for a touchdown. So if I had to guess it was probably at about the 40-42 yard line. I honestly don't really consider a Jet Sweep to be a form of trickery. I'd run that play almost anywhere on the field outside of my own 5-yard line.

Appreciate the kind words my friend. It adds a lot for me as well, being able to refer to so much history in this fantasy world I created, especially since it is true, real time history, with most of this stuff occurring 5 "real time" years ago.

I never got over this dynasty and I am still pumped about finding that memory card.

Thanks for the encouraging words Cheese. I won't pretend the game hasn't already happened though. You had good reason to be worried about Latimer, all I am going to say is that kid is a beast! I will get the game recap posted sometime this afternoon I believe.

                                Editor's Note:

On a sad note, something I have feared happening once I got this thing started has happened, and that is it appears Part I of this dynasty has vanished from the net. For the past several days, when I click on my old Part I links from my table of contents page on page 1 of this thread, I get the dreaded "Database Error" message. So pretty much all my links are dead. I am hoping this is temporary but I have a strong feeling this may be permanent. I will continue to post links in my stories in the hopes the old DigitalSportsLounge database returns. Fortunately, I got most of what I need already from the old Part I thread in order to get this Part II thing rolling and to at least have a bullet-pointed summary of past events that got us to this point.
