Re: Miami on the move: 2015 Dolphins (M16 CFM, 360)

Week 1 in Washington saw a very well-played game between the Dolphins and Redskins. Both teams ran and passed fairly efficiently throughout. Miami won on the strength of a productive day from Lamar Miller and a huge, and very rare, 76-yard punt return TD by new PR Lucky Whitehead, who was signed after being cut by the Cowboys last week.

Miami's offense held the time of possession edge due to a 30-19 rushing playcall edge. But RGIII ended up with very nice stats due to two long TD passes, one to Andre Roberts in the 2nd quarter, a play on which the pass split two defenders to reach Roberts for a TD. The other nice pass was due to some luck, as a close-defending Brent Grimes tried to knock the pass down. But his arm went under the ball and DeSean Jackson had a walk-in TD. That TD closed the gap to 3 points but a 43-yard run by Lamar Miller sealed a Miami win and a 1-0 start to their season.

    GAMEPLAY NOTES:
What I like to do when I am trying to see how realistic the stats are is to take away the biggest play for each team in both the passing and rushing games. In this game's case, my passing and Washington's rushing game was more small chunks and no big plays. But in RGIII's case, his stats were buoyed by the two long pass plays. DeSean's should never have happened due to perfect coverage, so take that away and RGIII is 14-23 which about 200 yards which is about what I can expect. Lamar Miller had that 43-yard run, so he was closer to about 3.5-4 ypc, which is perfect. All in all, I was happy with the game, a close win. Before in Madden, no matter what happened I would usually win. I am hoping with these sliders that I can go maybe 10-6 with this team, which would be good. The big test will be in a few weeks when I have to play the Patriots, my Cowboys, and the toughest team I have played so far in exhibition games, those Philadelphia Eagles.

First off, good luck and welcome to the boards!

Obviously I loved Jonas Gray when we had him, but I hope he works out for you. Same goes with Mostert, he was a sprinter last I knew (or had sprinter speed, can't remember which) so I hope you can find a way to use his quickness.

For your question about pictures, it depends on the game. In NCAA 14, in the past I had problems with the instant replay lagging out the game when I resumed, so I wait until the end and use those highlights in my report. (I have since figured out what caused that problem, but the end game highlights look a lot better with what I use).

For Madden, I never experienced that problem, and I prefer to take pictures as they happen. Just keep in mind the most recent Madden I played was 25.

Thanks for that guru, I am just about caught up on your UConn dynasty. I really like Gray because he is a Power Run guy, so I expect him to be a good backup for a couple years. I need to play around with auto subs to get him a few carries, don't like Miller enough to get 30 carries a game. Mostert is a nice KR, and maybe he can elevate to a 3rd back status.

          Minnesota 35, SAN FRANCISCO 31

A few interesting scores in Week 1, including a complete reversal in Tampa Bay, where Jameis Winston and the Bucs shut out Marcus Mariota and the Titans 23-0. Elsewhere, the Jaguars get a very nice win over NFC South champ Carolina to start the season. Blake Bortles threw for 3 TD in that game, and I hope he has a down week when I face him in Week 2. All of the other game results are pretty reasonable and feasible.

          110 Odell Beckham Jr, NYG (L 24-31 @ DAL)
          106 Martavis Bryant, PIT (W 37-31 @ NE)

          DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS
Justin Durant, ATL: 4 sacks (W vs. PHI 33-27)
          Robert Ayers, NYG: 3 sacks (L @ DAL 24-31)
Jabaal Sheard, NE: 3 sacks (L vs. PIT 31-37)
          Keenan Lewis, NO: 2 INT (W @ ARI 35-21)

          SPECIAL TEAMS
          Patrick Murray, TB: 3-3 FG
          Nick Folk, NYJ: 3-3 FG
          Justin Tucker, BAL: 3-3 FG
          Dan Bailey, DAL: 3-4 FG
Lucky Whitehead, MIA: 76-yard punt return TD (ONLY PR over 9 yards in the entire league)

The Steelers had a passing party in New England, but Antonio Brown wasn't the guest of honor in that game, as his two less heralded teammates had 100-yard receiving days and his favorite QB was the lone one to throw for 400+ yards on opening weekend.

With Denard Robinson's 100 yards and Bortles' 3 TD passes, are the Jaguars a team to be reckoned with this year?

Justin Durant led 13 players who had 2 or more sacks in Week 1 from his middle linebacker spot as he racked up FOUR against the desolate Eagles offensive line. Also, there were a whole bunch of field goals this week. Teams are still adjusting and feeling each other out. All in all, not a huge fantasy-type day in the league.

            TRANSACTION NOTES

--No one who got released was picked up, that is a bit interesting.
--Vonta Leach is a nice lead blocker for the Cardinals running attack, and a nice pickup for the 'Skins with Dockett, who has a high rating.
--Kicker roulette also continues as it goes in real life.
--Interestingly, no offensive lineman of note were cut and a lot of good safeties were released.
--As far as trades go, the Cowboys replace Morris Claiborne with Josh Robinson. The Titans get a nice return for Mettenberger, who I guess will be groomed to take over for Eli. If real life is any indication, the Colts desperately need some O-line help.
--Also, being a University of Delaware graduate, I will keep tabs on UD NFL players and hopefully draft or pick up some to in the future.

                Game Notes
Jacksonville's defense played really well against Carolina in Week 1, with a ferocious pass rush with 6 sacks. Two rookies led the way with 2 sacks each: RE Dante Fowler and DT Michael Bennett. But the key is: can they slow down Lamar Miller?

Re: Miami on the move: 2015 Dolphins (M16 CFM, 360)

                  WEEK 2

Week 2 saw a battle of Florida with the Miami Dolphins taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars in EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The first quarter was scoreless and largely uneventful except for an opening Dolphins drive that was squelched at the one when, Ryan Tannehill, on an 8-yard scrambled at the quarter-inch line trying to get in the end zone. Tannehill was injured on the play and missed the remainder of the game and the Jags recovered, but were held to a 3 and out.

In the 2nd quarter there were 20 combined points, 10 for each team. The Dolphins got a nice Lucky Whitehead punt return and FB Will Ta'ufo'ou punched it in from a yard out for the game's first score. The Jags then took the lead with 10 straight points, led by Denard Robinson scooting outside on several occasions, breaking contain for big games. Early this season, the Dolphins have struggled in yards per carry defense. Miami also turned it over three times in the first half, leading directly to the 10 Jacksonville points.

The second half was all Dolphins. Lamar Miller controlled the clock and Matt Moore filled in nicely after a rough 0-3 start with 2 INT, going 15-22 with 196 yards and a TD the rest of the way. The Jaguars struggled with drops as they officially had 6 of them, many on wide open routes, even though it seemed like it was in the double digits. The Dolphins did force their first 2 INT of the year, one on a terribly off-target throw from Blake Bortles, the other on good man-to-man coverage from Sanders Commings, a guy I chose specifically because of that skill.

PLAY OF THE GAME: The play of the game was with Miami leading 24-10 in the 4th. The game kept calling pass plays for some reason, so I just was gonna go short, make sure not to stop the clock. I dumped one off to TE Jordan Cameron. He turned upfield, squirmed between 2 defenders untouched, juked a third, and out-maneuvered 2 more defenders chasing him for an exciting 66-yard TD to salt the game away and put him over 100 yards for the day.

In the end, the Jaguars's receivers drops were the difference in the game to me, and something I will look to remedy before the next game, when the Dolphins host the Bills. Ryan Tannehill will be back at the helm for Miami.

                      NOTES
--I do not get the Melvin Ingram trade at all, who the heck is Jayron Elliott?
--Jermichael Finley goes back to the Packers after a 2-year hiatus, Ray McDonald's legal issues are ignored by the desperate Colts, and Chris Cook is a nice pickup for the defense-minded Bills.
--A quadruplet of running backs leads the injury list (Gore, Bell, Gurley and Forsett) and the first big significant superstar in pain is Richard Sherman who will miss 5 games with an ailing hip.

                        WEEK 3 SCOUTING UPDATE
--Week 3 is the start of the scouting process. On the first page, I dialogued the type of players I want and that I wanted to transfer to a 3-4 defense next season.
--That being said, I have a plan in place for my defense. Like in real life with the Bronco moving former Cowboy Demarcus Ware to DE when moving him from a 3-4 to a 4-3, I am going to do the opposite with current defensive ends Cameron Wake and Dion Jordan in the offseason. With the way defensive ends rush in Madden, I want my linebackers and secondary to be the focal point.
--I am not sure if it’s possible to move Ndamukong Suh to DE and get a more space-eating DT in the middle. Has anyone ever tried moving a Suh-type player from DT to DE, and has it worked? Any feedback is appreciated.

Here are the needs for my team for next season (based on current team grades and types of players that I need for my new schemes):

                        1. prototype WR (HT, SPC, CIT)
--SCOUTED: 1-17 Jemeryn Tull (6-4, 230, Alabama, Red Zone Threat, West Coast, B CTH, B REL, A JMP)
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 2-13 Shakim Matthews
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 3-20 Tyler Peters
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 4-18 Olajuwaun Reid

                        2. offensive line help, all spots (RBK, IMP, AGI)
--SCOUTED: 1-18 Lamarcus Hunter (6-7, 332, Wisconsin, Big Mauler, Power Run, B RBK, B IMP, C AGI, D AWR)
--SCOUTED: 2-1 LT Marcus Hopkins (6-5, 312, Pittsburgh, Run Blocker, Power Run, B RBK, B IMP, C AGI, D AWR)
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 2-6 RT Darion Phillip
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 2-19 LG Mack Patrick
                        --LEFT TO SCOUT: 3-5 C Deon'tae Avery
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 5-8 RT Patrick Jordan
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 6-9 LT Joey Franklin
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 6-15 C Blake McNeil
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 7-14 LT Nathan Shepherd
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 7-24 RG Shawn Hunter (great name from Boy Meets World)

                        3. 2nd middle linebacker (ACC, TKL, PRC)
--NOTE: there are not many MLB in this draft, so I may look for a cheap 2nd option in free agency to go with recent signee Brandon Spikes.
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 1-20 Rodnell Gilgore
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 2-11 Raymond Scott

                        4. defensive ends (preferrably run stuffers, BKS, AGI, PRC)
                        --SCOUTED: 1-23 LE LeTevin Ball (6-3, 302, Michigan St, 3-4 Run Stopper, Attacking 3-4, C ACC, B BKS, C PRC, D AWR)
                        --SCOUTED: 2-3 RE Edmund Reynolds (6-7, 293, Texas, 3-4 Run Stopper, Base 3-4, B BKS, B TKL, C PRC, C AWR)
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 2-15 RE Jorge Dennard
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 4-13 RE Patrick Thomas
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 5-16 RE Deaudrick Graham
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 5-26 RE Demontray Locke
--LEFT TO SCOUT: UDFA LE Dangelo Doolittle

                        4. #1 or #2 cornerback (MCV, PRS, ACC)
--NOTE: Also no high-up man corners in the draft this year, so I will scout some late and see if one stands out.
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 3-28 Jaquante McClaim (great name)
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 4-10 Keilan Dawson

--LEFT TO SCOUT: UDFA Marcell Hill

                        5. starting DT (if move Suh to DE) (BKS, AWR, TKL)
--LEFT TO SCOUT: 3-9 Paul Peterson (at the moment, not anyone else that caught my eye long enough to make my list)

                        5. kicker (KPW)
--LEFT TO SCOUT: UDFA Cody Pickett

                              Bills team leaders
                              E. J. Manuel: 20-46, 213 yards, INT, 48.5 QB rating
Boobie Dixon: 18 carries, 59 yards

I am a big uniform buff, so I will be trying to stay true to some patterns in uniforms I have seen, but do like to go throwback a lot. That being said,

Bills: blue pants with the 90's uniform, including the red helmet
Dolphins: all white 1990's recent Dan Marino jerseys

The Bills are really bad. They have one TD and have given up 61 points so far, albeit to much better teams in the Madden universe in the Colts and Patriots. But starting 3-0 is something that should happen with no Shady McCoy and a makeshift offensive line, but that's why they play the games.

                                Buffaloed in Miami

In what may be the most ridiculous game of Madden I have ever played, in the rain, I am so pissed off I can't even write a full recap and full sentences for this game. So here is what happened:

--Shady who? E.J. Manuel rushed for a 76-yard gain in the 4th quarter, I gave up a 19-yard TD to FULLBACK Jerome Felton, and the Bills rushed for 202 yards total in the game.
--What are cornerbacks? The Dolphins gave up a 80-yard pass to a WIDE OPEN Robert Woods in the 4th quarter after a nice comeback to cut the lead to three. They also gave up a 76-yard pass to a WIDE OPEN Percy Harvin in the 2nd quarter.
--Ball security? I fumbled 3 times, none of which were my fault. One was on a scramble with Tannehill where I said to slide and he did not. The second was down 10 in the 3rd quarter on a nice 7-yard first down gain from Lamar Miller. The third was the biggest BS, after a GREAT double comeback by my offense, Lucky Whitehead returned a punt 28 yards with 45 seconds left to the Bills 35, in FG range, and lost the ball to end the game. I am going to hope that was the rain and not the sliders.

                                GAME NOTES
--Either my defense is TERRIBLE or the sliders are too hard.
--That was the worst offense in the league I allowed over 400 yards (76, 80 and 84 on three separate plays).
--Ndamukong Suh is AWFUL, or the offensive line blocking is too good, because I have not seen him shed ONE block in 3 games, and I have tried every possible technique.
--One turnover WAS completely my fault, a mega-costly goal line INT trying to force a pass into Jordan Cameron, didn't realize the computer catches all bad throws now. The other INT was a 3-yard pass to Greg Jennings that was thrown right to the CB. Tannehill missed AT LEAST 5 5-yard throws in the game to WIDE OPEN receivers.
--I do like my Special Teams a lot. Mostert had 2 good KR and Whitehead is a very nice PR, but he has to avoid costly turnovers.
