    Instant Debate
    • Chargers start at #5 despite only just managing an ugly two score victory over a Carr-less Raiders team.
    • Jets come in at #6 based on the strength of their defense, but that same defense allowed 29 points against Buffalo.
    • Rookie QB; Nunley, boosts the Bowns to never before seen heights - #15!
    • Despite no longer having Tom Brady behind center, their's still confidence in New England at #17.
    • Not so much for Denver, who fall to #20 despite their defense being largely intact from last year's squad.
    • Despite a close battle with #2 Carolina, the 49ers fall all the way to #29.
    • The lowest scoring team, with the least amount of offensive yards; St. Louis comes in at #30.
    • Tough call putting the Bears in between the Rams and Dolphins, feel like #31 is very harsh.
    • Probably a fiar spot for Miami at #32, Suh out for awhile and Landry just coming back to Tannehill, who has done very little. Could be a long season in the sunshine state.

      Post-Game Debrief

      Present:
      Rickey Jackson (GM/Owner)
      Jim Glidewell (HC)
      Harper Blake (GM's PA)
      Rod Woodall (Head of Scouting)
      Nick Garrett (Head Trainer)

"Sorry to confirm it Coach, but Spiller popped his elbow out during the game on Sunday. Good news is that there's no fracture or ligament damage, so we're probably looking at 4 weeks recovery. He can be back out training non-contact in 2 or 3." - NG

      "This puts us in a really tough spot, we have to get another running back, which means we have to make space on the 53-man roster. These are our options as I see them;
#1 - we get Coleman back in a week, so we'll have plenty of receivers, so we could let Seth Roberts or Bennie Fowler walk.
#2 - Both Evans and Hansen could move into center spot if Jones goes down and we still have Lelito as a swing man, so Fernando Velasco could be cut to make room.
#3 - Humber or Kikaha could be cut from the LBer group, probably Humber as Kikaha has the pass rushing capability to bak up the DE spot.
#4 - With Barron playing more of the backup Safety role, Baccari Rambo isn't seeing a lot of time.
So what do you think people?"
      - RJ

"I never want to diminish my number with the receivers, because like we saw on Sunday, every one of the found some time on the field, plus both Fowler and Roberts are great locker room guys. Both Humber and Rambo shined when given time in the pre-season and I don't think it would be too different if they had to step in now either. Guess that leaves Velasco as my recommendation." - JG

"The only other thing that I'd add from my end is that I know Colston will require some time off this season, not necessarily whole games, but series, which puts a bit more emphasis on the need for other guys being there to pick up the slack. Also Cooks burns himself out returning kicks and punts too, so the receiver group needs to be pretty extensive." - NG

"Sounds like I need to have a meeting with Fernando then. I guess the next thing is to look over the list of FA running backs and give me some feedback. Anyone feel that either Jonas Gray or Storm Johnson should be brought back?" - RJ

      Glidewell simply shakes his head.

"They were that annoying huh? Well this is what we have to go with then." - RJ

      Potential FA HBs
      • Ronnie Hillman - great speed and agility, but some concern over his durability, several injuries over the past two seasons.
      • Orleans Darkwa - slightly bigger back, bit of a 'tweener speed/power back. Local guy from Tulane.
      • Daniel Thomas - true power back, not the shiftiest feet hitting the hole but gets to top speed quickly. Won't outrun too many defenders.
      • Damien Williams - another big back, faster and shiftier than Thomas, more elusive too.
      • Bishop Sankey - smaller back, but plays more like a big back.

"I'm intrigued by Damien Williams, but lets bring the local guy in. Darkwa is a great guy by all accounts and he brings something a little different than what we have right now." - JG

Potentially the last showdown between Matty 'Ice' and Drew Brees - Brees has the lead in the series 9-6.
The Falcons are hoping that the combination that some called the best running back duo in the league, C.J. Anderson and Devonta Freeman, can actually garner more yards than the paltry 36 that they had last week.
The Saint's DB's have some work cut out for them, the four starting receivers for Atlanta are 6'3 or taller.
Desmond Trufant will look to limit Cooks impact this week after he had 140 yards against the Rams.
Time to see if the Saint's defense is actually any good or the Ram's offense was just really bad.

Final Team Meeting - Week 2 @ Atlanta Falcons

            Offensive Room

"We've got some clear opportunities this week. Vic Beasley is their best pass rusher coming off the left edge, but he's not the biggest guy, so lets keep pounding the ball in his direction and try to tire him out. Conversely, Adrian Clayborn isn't the quickest man on their front, but he's got size and strength, so if we run any HB toss or sweeps then take them his way. With Hageman out, we just need to coral Grady Jarrett up the middle and we'll be fine. There's not a single one-on-one battle in the trenches that I'm worried about. Durant on the second level can both chase down the runner and he's also dangerous in coverage, so keep an eye on him. Also know where Brooks Reed is lining up because he quick and can get off a block well too. There's two DB's we've got to be wary of; Desmond Trufant and Kemal Ishmael. Trufant is already calling Cooks out in interviews, so we can possibly use that as a diversion because the rest of his squad won't be able to stick with our guys. Ishmael is a dangerous guy in run support and can knock a ball loose pretty easy too, but he struggles when matched up one-on-one, so look to exploit that. Let's keep this good thing rolling, cause the whole nation is going to be watching Gentlemen." - Jim Glidewell

            Defensive Room

"A lot of you guys are familiar with Matt Ryan and if we try to pull the same stunt of stacking the box like we did against McCarron and the Rams then he's going to sling it in our faces. So we need to make sure that we bring pressure in the right places.Their O-line is solid at most spots except for Center and their Right Guard, so we'll be looking to bring the inside blitz or a DB blitz from the weakside. While they didn't do much last week, both Freeman and Anderson are dangerous backs, so make sure you contain the edge and wrap them up before they get going. Don't look for a knockout his to get the ball loose, let's just tie them up and bring them down. Everyone's expecting us to have trouble with the tall guys outside, but Julio remains the only true threat, so we'll look to have Jenkins on him with either Byrd or Vaccaro playing him over the top. Everyone else will be on their own mostly. They've got height, but they're neither the fastest nor do they have the surest hands, we'll be alright. If you want people to start taking Defense in New Orleans seriously, then it begins tonight Gentlemen, because everyone will be watching, so do your jobs and play hard." - Jim Glidewell

              Key Games & Predictions - Week 2

Houston Texans @ Green Bay Packers
: Both teams kicked the season of with a win, but one of the eviscerated their opponents in prime time and the other relied on an opportunistic defense to help get the 'W'. If Watt can get the Texan's D to rattle Rodgers, then we have a game, otherwise Houston might be in trouble.

New York Giants@ Cincinnati Bengals: The Ryan Nassib era had a nice start last week and has been happy in the Big Apple, but the Bengals are a different kettle of fish to the bumbling Bears. Dalton & Green destroyed the Eagles secondary and the Giants will need to shut that combo down right away if they want to keep these good feeling alive.

New England Patriots@New York Jets: David Fales will need to keep going to Amendola and Edelman or Lewis and Powell are going to have to get through that monster fontline of the Jets, because they're are still people in Foxborough who believe in the power of the 'Hoodie', despite the loss of Brady.

Jacksonville Jaguars@ Indianapolis Colts: In a battle between Bortles and Luck for an early AFC South lead, the advantage goes slightly to Bortles because of his better O-line. This should be a high flying game however, as the Jags are missing the guys who could slow Luck down, namely Fowler Jr., and both promising young QBs have a range of quality receivers to throw to. First one to make a mistake will probably lose this one.

Arizona Cardinals@ Buffalo Bills:These two teams combined to generate 1,000 yards of offense in Week 1 (630 through the air and 370 on the ground). That offensive output should not be sustainable, especially because both of these teams have dynamic defenses. Rex Ryan needs to show that he has the defensive acumen to shut down the Arians powerhouse, while Arizona is trying to prove to the league that it on't stop piling on the yards and points.

Week 2 Game Review @ Atlanta Falcons

The first quarter did not go as the Saint's would have liked. Brees through an uncharacteristic interception, with no pressure in his face and a clearly better option available, which the Falcons promptly set about punishing them for. Exactly as many of the experts predicted in the off-season, Ryan threw the ball up and let his big-bodies receivers go to work.

                Round 1 goes to Julio

A sight like this had the hearts of Saint's fans racing as Ryan threw a quick score to put the Falcons up 7-0. Unfortunately for Matty 'Ice' the rest of the rest of the half did not go as smoothly. Cameron Jordan roused the defense as he set up shop in the backfield with Stephone Anthony, combining for 2 sacks each, during crucial drives.

Despite solid blocking, Jordan made his way into the backfield when it mattered.

Brees shrugged off his early mistake and quickly went to work with the combined efforts of Ingram rushing and his trustiest target; Colston getting open for some big gains. Before halftime he had found both Colston and Seth Roberts in the endzone, Roberts for only his second TD in the NFL and his first as a Saints. For Colston it was the 69th TD reception of his 10 year career, all coming from the arm of Brees. Ryan and the Falcons tried to rally before the half, but unwisely tried to go to Julio in double coverage. Saints go into the half up 17-7.

Round 2 goes to the Saint's DBs

The 3rd quarter started off beautifully for the Saints, they controlled the clock using short passes and punishing rushes, eventually Ingram found pay dirt to extend the lead to 24-7. Again the Falcons had minimal success before giving the ball back. This was where things went pear shaped. Firstly Cooks got winded on the return and would be unable to play the series, then Colston injured his wrist and would miss the rest of the game. As if they were omens, Vic Beasley bust through the line on a first down play-action and nearly cut Drew Brees in half. After a tense ad break and surrounded by trainers, Brees eventually left the field under his own power and on came Garrett Grayson. Glidewell would call several rushes until they bogged down at the 20 with 8 yards needed to convert. Grayson calmly stepped under center, dropped back, surveyed the field and threw a delicate touch pass over the middle into the waiting arms of Mark Ingram who strolled in for another TD untouched. 31-7. Before New Orleans could finish congratulating the second year QB, Ryan had thrown a quick out route to Jacob Tamme who broke Jenkins attempt to bring him down and stutter-stepped Vaccaro to go 55 yards for a score. 31-14.

The 4th quarter saw Brees re-emerge from the locker and take the field. It was obvious, however, that there would be no risking the health of the 37-year old QB as the Saints tried to milk the clock. The Falcons quickly snuffed this out and Ryan once again drove the length of the field for his 3rd TD strike, this one to Riley Cooper, who held on despite taking a hit from Vaccaro that broke his hand and put him out for 6 weeks. 31-21. Similar turn of events again with the Saints trying to milk the clock and getting shut down, saw the Falcons drive down but were held to a field goal, 31-24. All of a sudden it was a one score game and Brees came out firing. He got the ball over halfway but Josh Gordon was unable to hang on to the 3rd down catch as he was hit. Down to 0:54 left, with no timeouts and Matty 'Ice' had the ball at his own 18 yard line. Having scored on his last two possessions, the Saint's defenders were trying to keep everything in front of them, which Ryan quickly exploited and two spiked balls later, they were on the Saint's 40 yard line with 0:10 remaining. Two incompletions, with Julio Jones on the sideline, saw the clock drop all the way down to 0:01 and #11 stepped back out. Ryan snaps the ball as the clocks ticks off the last second, he give Jones time to get deep and lobs it straight to him.

Julio goes up amongst some serious Saint's traffic, gets his hand to the ball, but is unable to hang on to it.

                          Instant Debate
                          • Packers stay solid at #1 and are unlikely to move as they host the winless Bears this week.
                          • Another potential blowout could be the #3 Seahawks, who head down to Miami to face the hapless #32 Dolphins.
                          • San Diego sits pretty at 5 even after another ugly win, allowing both the Steelers and the Seahawks to leapfrog them.
                          • Jacksonville makes the biggest jump (+9) from #16 to #7, after a shootout victory over the Colts leaves them in the ranks of the undefeated.
                          • The Falcons (-7) and the Browns (-8) take the biggest tumbles this week, Falcons as they stay winless and the Browns after they lose their rookie QB for the season.
                          • The Raiders could be poised to make a jump next week as they finally have Derek Carr back under center.
                          • Minnesota could keep falling after Teddy Bridgewater was diagnosed broken collarbone and will miss around 5 games.

Riley Jumps the Pond Hoping to Make a Splash in the NFL

Gabe Riley spent his time in high school dreaming of the day he would run out into a full stadium wearing the white and red. Instead of a Cardinal, Cougar, Pine Tree or 'N', as a badge, he dreamt of the rose, which is the emblem of the English rugby team. As a junior he excelled on the rugby fields of England and earned representative honors to play in rugby's version of 7-on-7 at an international schoolboys tournament. It was at this tournament that Riley first came face-to-face with American footballers and to the surprise of the American coaches, he more than held his own. Particularly when defending, none of the usual jukes, spins or even old-fashioned trucking seemed to be enough to get away from the tenacious Brit. Luckily enough for Jimbo Fisher and the Florida State faithful, one of their assistant coaches caught this film on YouTube and sought permission to speak to Riley. The rest is history down in Tallahassee as Gabe decided to take the plunge and spent his first year redshirted in order to first figure out which position to play and then delve into the intricacies of the playbook. The next year he started as a RS Freshman and has been a stalwart at Safety ever since. At 6'1 and 219lbs, Riley is known to scouts and fans for his hard tackles and playmaking ability, but it's his leadership and maturity that have impressed his teammates. "Gabe's never been anything other than a gentleman, he comes accross a little stuffy at first with the accent and weird saying and stuff, but he's always a guy you can get some good advice from or help with either the playbook now or school stuff as well. He'll leave a huge void in the locker room if he declares at the end of this season, I know I wouldn't be the player I am today if he hadn't been here to help me." This praise comes from his defensive teammate and potential first-round pick (he's a RS Sophomore so no guarantee he'll declare) Garrett Scott (LOLB). Looks like the Brit has already made waves down in Florida, but he'll need to prove that he can do it in a much larger pond if he wants to make the jump to the NFL.

                              Mid-Week Personnel Meeting

                              Present:
                              Rickey Jackson (GM/Owner)
                              Jim Glidewell (HC)
                              Harper Blake (GMs PA)
                              Rod Woodall (Head of Scouting)
                              Nick Garrett (Head Trainer)

"We need to start thinking about how serious we want to start making some of these re-signing talks, cause we have some doosies."-RJ

"Let's attack the biggest one first then; do we offer Drew another contract?"-HB

"He's 37, but still playing very well and doing everything right to keep himself out there. We had a little scare last week, but he shook it off and only missed a series. I think it will some down to whether we are prepared to offer him enough to show our respect and appreciation, or should we be looking to make the CAP space in order to bring a younger QB in? Also we need enough room to lock Armstead down and possibly Vaccaro." - RJ

"Right now, he's still in the top 10 of the league and even for next year I'm not sure we can get an upgrade. Are we going to go all in for this season, get ready to tank next year and hope one of those young-gun college QB's are good enough to take the reigns as a rookie? That's a bloody risky move if you ask me. Do what we can to keep Drew for another year or two, but make Terron the priority, that's my take."-JG

"He's a tough old dog, but he's still 37 and will be 38 next season. From my point of view, he'll need some serious rest and TLC if we keep him around, but if anyone can play until they're 40, I think it could be Drew."-NG

"Alright we'll go with that then, lock down Terron for the long term and then see what we can do with Drew."-RJ

                              The Next Day

                              Present:
                              Rickey Jackson (GM/Owner)
                              Harper Blake (GMs PA)
                              Terron Armstead (LT)

"Thanks for sticking around after training Terron."-RJ

"Not a problem Mr Jackson, I still need to get a lift and massage in anyway."-TA

"Well I'll try to keep it short then. You've been fantastic for the organization since we drafted you, your contract is up at the end of the season and we would really like to get something done to keep you in New Orleans for the duration of your career. What are you and your agent thinking?"-RJ

"We both knew this was coming, so we've already got what we think is my market value mapped out. Long term security is important to me, but I need to maximize my value while I can Mr Jackson. I'm asking for a 6 year contract for about $92M."-TA

"Here's what we can do, we'll stick to the max of 6 years. We'll put $3M a year in bonus, which give you an immediate $18M paycheck right now and look to pad the rest out to an even $90M over the course of the contract. So we'll rework your current contract, so that you are now on 7 years for $90.9M. This will make you on of the top-5 highest paid LT's in the game, right up there with Ryan Clady, Tyron Smith, Trent Williams and Joe Thomas."-RJ

"I'm not looking to reset the bar or anything, and I love New Orleans and think what you guys have been doing is working and I want to be around for that. I'll talk to my agent and make this work. I appreciate that you kept if fair and didn't try to lowball me, Mr Jackson. Well I guess it's time to get back to work and earn this new contract."-TA
