Nice defensive effort against Western Michigan. Hopefully you can get the last win to become bowl eligible, does the game have you in any bowl projections?

Thanks! And yes we are projected to compete in the Heart of Dallas Bowl against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Was kinda hoping for a bowl game in which I didn't have to play a Big Ten team, but oh well I'll take what I can get.

          Game Notes
-Northwestern has seemed to find its game all of a sudden. Despite starting the year with a 1-5 record and really looking lost in each of those games. They have pulled within one win of bowl eligibility by winning 4 of their last 5 games. The Wildcats have put back to back wins together here to really make the final push here late in the season. Big wins against ranked opponents in Wisconsin and Nebraska seems to have breathed new life into this Wildcat roster. They will end their regular season play with a visit from the Fighting Illini of Illinois.

-Illinois has had a season to forget that's for sure. They sit at 3-8 on the year and it has been a rough go for the Illini. They have lost 3 straight games against Cincy, Iowa, and Purdue. The Illini season really seemed like a lost cause when they welcomed Michigan to town and the Wolverines dominated the game and took away a 52-0 victory. This team also lost game 1 of this season against the Eastern Illinois Panthers, an FCS team. Illinois is purely playing for pride in this game whereas the Wildcats will look to sneak to a bowl game.

Wildcats Can't Overcome First Half from Hell

Week 14 vs Illinois Recap Video

The Wildcats come into their final game of the regular season needing a win to qualify for a bowl game. Safe to say by the headline that they did not bring their best effort in this game. Illinois could have slept on the bus and still of had a lead on this Wildcat effort. Northwestern somehow kept this game close despite turning the ball over 6 times in the first half. Illinois jumped out to an early 24-0 lead halfway through the 2nd quarter. The Wildcats were able to cut into that lead by half-time. The score at the half was 31-14. The Wildcats needed a huge 2nd half to even get this game close.

The first turnover is an Interception thrown by Oliver

The Wildcats came out in the 2nd half with a purpose and the defense was rested after spending most of the first attempting to save this game. The 3rd quarter was rather tame in relation to the mistake-filled first half. After 3 quarters the Illini held a 17 point lead, 38-21. Illinois quarterback, Wes Lunt, had a field day picking apart the Wildcat defense. He would end the day with 455 yards and 4 TDs. Northwestern scored 10 straight points to start the 4th to bring the lead down to 10, 38-31. That is as close as the Wildcats would get, though. 10 more points would end up burying the Wildcat's bowl dreams. Illinois takes this rivalry game 48-38.

This is looking great my friend....

Sorry to see you guys not reach bowl eligibility but I am pumped to see the career of Rick Casey play out.

Good luck in the off-season. You guys are right on the cusp!

I hate to see you lose the rivalry game at the end of the year. I wish your team nothing but the best next season and you have them headed in the right direction

Thanks guys!! I am generally very excited about next season with some of the recruits I'm bringing in and the strong run that I finished the season on before the Illinois game.
