"The Alabama Crimson Tide are your National Champions!!! They just defeated the Fighting Irish 42 to 14. Coach Nick Saban can breathe a sigh of relief as he has capped off an amazing season for his program."
I sat there with my football team watching in awe as Alabama hoisted the BCS Championship above their heads. I looked around at the team as they were all excited to have witnessed the game. Something they wish they could of done this past season themselves. My name is Jeremy Moore, I am currently the head coach of the Lincoln Wolves. You may have heard of Lincoln, its the small town that Ryan Mallett grew up in before moving down south. Yeah it's a nice small town here, passionate community. I had been coach here for a couple years now, one of the youngest in Arkansas High School Athletics, and we just came off a heartbreaking loss in the semi-finals of the state playoffs to our highway rival.
I wanted the team to feel the excitement of winning a championship, the tears in my Seniors eyes when they lost its hard to see that. I had contemplated trying to pursue a job on the collegiate level, but after the loss in the playoffs, I just couldn't do that to the kids. I got up and went in to the kitchen to grab some more food and drinks for everyone, just then my cell phone rang.
Jeremy: Hello?
Voice: Can I speak with Coach Moore please.
Jeremy: This is him.
Voice: Hello Coach Moore, this is Jeff Long the Athletic Director at the University of Arkansas. How are you doing this evening?
Jeremy: Great! I just finished watching the championship game with my team.
Jeff: That's great! Listen, I don't want to hang on to you for too long. I just finished speaking with Coach Bielema and he wanted to extend an offer to you to join our coaching staff as an Offensive Coordinator. If that is something you're interested in then let me know, the offer will be on the table for atleast a week before we pursue somebody else.
Jeremy: Wow I don't know what to say. You will have an answer from me before the week is up trust me. I just need to talk to my kids and school and see if its a right move right now.
Jeff: No problem, I respect that. I can't wait to hear from you soon, take care!
I couldn't believe it, I had a job offer to coach on the collegiate level, but a huge part of me still didn't want to leave the kids, but I knew another chance like this wouldn't knock on my door again so I decided to take it. I walked back into the living room and stood in front of the team. I thought they deserved to know before anyone else did.
Jeremy: Listen up guys! I just wanted to let you know how proud I am of you guys for what you have been through and accomplished this past season. At the beginning of the season, you guys told me if you was to bring home a championship that you wanted me to pursue a job on the collegiate level. Unfortunately we didn't get to do that this season, but that doesn't mean I still don't have an opportunity to move up in my career. Just a few minutes ago, I was extended an offer to coach the offense of the Arkansas Razorbacks this upcoming season. I have decided that I will be accepting the offer and will be joining their staff within the next week.
The kids started jumping up and down for joy and started to congratulate me. They didn't care I was leaving them, they wanted me to move up and become successful. They took this decision in stride and gave me words of encouragement. This was an amazing turn of events for me, and I couldn't wait to see what the future held for me.
