Rivers "Ready to Go," Prepares for Second Half of Season
The Los Angeles Chargers are preparing for the New York Giants after a much needed bye week. The entire team has dealt with injuries that have kept out multiple starters. It's made the start of the season difficult, as the team has limped to a 1-6 record.
One of the worst starts in franchise history; it hasn't been the start that many expected with the move to Los Angeles. Although, no one expected the team to be without Philip Rivers and Melvin Gordon.
Philip Rivers was a full participant in practice this week. A welcome sign after dealing with a ruptured disk in his lower back. Rivers is expected to start this week, while the team announced that Melvin Gordon will likely miss "one more game."
Rivers' return has also brought changes to the offense. Head Coach Harold Goodwin, often under criticism due to the team's early season play, has announced the offense will be less conservative.
Beyond the offensive style, first round pick Cam Robinson will get his first start of the season against the Giants. Left tackle King Dunlap has struggled in pass protection, allowing 9 sacks in just 7 games.
Robinson, out of Alabama, was drafted to start at one of the tackle positions. After a tough camp battle, the coaching staff decided to start the two veterans. The difficult start to the season had the rookie Robinson seeing snaps as a sixth blocker. Now, he will get his chance to protect Philip Rivers.
The Chargers will host the Giants on Sunday, their third straight home game. The franchise is still looking for their first win in Los Angeles.
