The Coaching Career of Desean Dupree (NCAA 14)

    Introduction

This dynasty will follow the coaching career of my fictional coach Desean Dupree. I have never kept a dynasty going as long as I would like, and I am hoping this can change that problem. This dynasty might start off a little weak with images (I'm having a lot of problems inserting images here at the moment) and organization, but I hope to grow over time. I am also going to use a lot of Google Docs to store my information as it will be an easy link for others to follow and view without having to download anything.

I will start out at South Alabama and have plans to build the program to a point where I can join the SEC, which is a conference I would like to have a dynasty in but don't want to start in the conference as that would be too easy. If I get to a point where I feel it is best to move on, I will. This dynasty will also track the careers of Dupree's coaching tree (there will be a post later on how readers can become a part of this) as well as some of the connections Dupree has made in his career. Also, as conference realignment is more than just one sport, other South Alabama sports will be looked at. I look forward to the challenge ahead.

Joey Jones Fired at South Alabama

South Alabama AD announces mass changes

MOBILE -- The new South Alabama Athletic Director made a surprising announcement on Sunday when he fired the entire football coaching staff.

INDENTChris Nixon, who was hired in February, wasted no time in shaking things up in Mobile. Nixon fired head coach Joey Jones who had been with the program since its inception in 2009. Jones will take his entire coaching staff with him including offensive coordinator Robert Matthews and defensive coordinator Kevin Sherrer, who was hired early this year. Jones led the Jaguars to a 2-11 record in their first FBS season a year ago.

INDENTMany around Mobile, including Jones, were upset and spoke out after the firing. “This is a mistake from Chris Nixon, no one will want this job after seeing how he handled this,” said Jones on his exit of the program. “Expecting more than what I gave in the first year at the toughest level is ludicrous, knowing you won’t have the opportunity to build will scare everyone off,” added Jones later via social media. Many students convened around the athletic department building to protest the firing on Sunday afternoon.

INDENTJones was the first head coach hired at South Alabama after the school voted to add the program in 2007. The program went 17-0 in 2009 and 2010, outscoring opponents 734-171. Those 17 opponents included four from the FCS level, four D-II schools, one D-III school, one NAIA school, and six prep schools. The team went 6-4 in 2011 as an FCS Independent and has only one win over an FBS team, a 37-34 double-overtime win over Florida Atlantic last season.

INDENTNixon cited this when asked about the firing: “Coach Jones seemed to think this was a foolish firing because he had success on paper. In reality, this is an FBS program now and I don’t see his coaching style having success with this program.” Nixon said he did not have a successor in line yet, but wanted somebody unique.

INDENTBob Stitt, the head coach at Colorado School of Mines, is somebody to keep an eye on. Stitt is known for his explosive offense, especially his shovel fly sweep that West Virginia borrowed from to score 70 points against Clemson in the 2011 Orange Bowl.

South Alabama hires youngest college football coach in country

              Jake Shaw
              Student Journalist

MOBILE -- The South Alabama Jaguars announced the hiring of the youngest head coach in college football on Monday.

INDENTDeSean Dupree, 30, will be expected to lead the Jaguars into their FBS transition after accepting the head coaching vacancy. Dupree previously coached at Archbishop Shaw High School, his alma mater, which is located about ten miles from New Orleans. He led the Eagles to a third-place finish in the state playoffs last season.

INDENTDupree will take over the vacancy left after former Jaguars head coach Joey Jones was fired on March 17th. Jones was fired after a 2-11 season in the Jaguars first year in the FBS, despite posting a 23-4 record his first three years in building the program from the ground up. “This is a mistake from Chris Nixon, no one will want this job after seeing how he handled this,” said Jones after being fired, referencing the newly hired South Alabama AD.

INDENTJones may have been right when you consider Dupree’s youth and inexperience. 2012 was his first season as the head coach at Archbishop Shaw after being an offensive coordinator the previous four seasons at his alma mater. Dupree graduated from LSU in 2005, where he was a reserve wide receiver and quarterback. He got his first coaching job in 2007 as a graduate assistant at Miami (OH) where he coached current Washington Redskins tight end coach Sean McVay.

INDENTDupree will bring in his unique option attack which is influenced by Tommy Osborne’s Nebraska offense. Dupree picked up the offense from former Cornhusker QB Mickey Joseph, who coached Dupree as a freshman at Archbishop Shaw and quickly became a mentor. Joseph is now the head coach at Langston University, and his brother Vance coaches defensive backs for the Houston Texans.

INDENTDupree will go extremely young in his coaching staff as well. Former Alabama center William Vlachos, 25, will be the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator. Former Texas defensive back Jerren Wright, 30, will coach DBs and be the defensive coordinator. The rest of the coaching staff will be released at a later date but it appears Dupree and Nixon want to go for youth as well as a winning culture with both Wright and Vlachos winning National Championships in college.

INDENTDupree is one of the youngest head coaches in modern college football history, but he will be under a microscope from day one and needs to produce early.

South Alabama announces football coaching staff and scholarship roster

                Jake Shaw
                Student Journalist

MOBILE -- After much speculation on the remaining coaching staff, the official team website was updated Friday morning with five positional coaches.

INDENTWhen AD Chris Nixon announced Desean Dupree and his coordinators as the newest football coaches, he showed he wanted two things in his coaching staff. Youth and championship pedigree. He appears to have stuck with that as the coaching staff, which features exclusively former players with a history of winning, will be the youngest in the country with an average age of just over 29 years old.

INDENTThe five positional coaches announced on Friday--Brodie Croyle, QBs; Kevin Smith, RBs; Marvin Doucette, WRs; Chad Lavalais, DL; and Blake Maxwell, LBs--do not include a single coach over the age of 35, and most have zero coaching experience. Doucette and Lavalais join Desean Dupree as the only coaches on the staff to have spent any time coaching before this season, and Maxwell has spent two years as an analyst at SW Oklahoma State. Williams Vlachos, Jerren Wright, Croyle, and Smith are fresh off their playing careers and be stepping into a completely foreign territory.

INDENTWhat they may lack in coaching experience, they compensate for in playing experience. Dupree, Vlachos, Wright, and Lavalais all have at least one national championship ring from their playing days, and Kevin Smith had one of the best seasons for a running back in recent memory. Maxwell was also a part of the Kansas team that won the Orange Bowl in 2007, and Croyle has several years of NFL experience.

INDENTDoucette is a longtime friend of Dupree and was his offensive coordinator last season at Archbishop Shaw. He will also be the strength coach and holds the school record for touchdown receptions at Division III's Trinity University.

INDENTAt 34, Chad Lavalais is the oldest coach on the staff. He also has a strong connection to Dupree, as the two were teammates at LSU in 2003 when the team won the National Championship. The connection goes deeper as Lavalais was the defensive coordinator at Louisiana state champion Marksville High School, who knocked off Dupree's Archbishop Shaw in the semifinals.

INDENTIn addition to being the youngest staff in the country, South Alabama will also have one of the smallest staffs in the country. The eight coaches on the staff are all the program could afford, and graduate assistants and analysts weren't lining up to volunteer for the inexperienced staff. "Some feel it may put us at a disadvantage, but I see it as the opposite," said AD Chris Nixon in a statement released around noon, "our coaches will be able to focus on their specific units and show off their unique skillsets." Nixon also said in his statement that a press conference would not be held.

INDENTThe coaching staff and roster can be seen in full on the team website.

Note: It is now okay to post. Also, the spreadsheet I posted includes my play call sheet and recruiting database. These are not a part of the "team website" but you can feel free to view them and see what I am working with. I will update the sheet with stats throughout the season.

                  Desean Dupree Interview

                  Jake Shaw
                  Student Journalist

MOBILE -- After a very private spring ball, new Jaguars head football coach Desean Dupree sat down for his first interview after accepting the job.
Shaw: You will be stepping into a difficult situation--a brand new program, critics around the entire campus, and your first collegiate coaching job with a staff full of inexperience as well--how do you plan to handle this pressure?

Dupree: I think the way to handle this pressure is to succeed early on. People were not happy with the firing of Coach Jones, including many of our own players. If we come out and win out of the gate, people will start to buy into this program.

Shaw: How do you plan to succeed early on? Do you have a specific play style that you think can help compensate for some of the less talented players this program has compared to others?

Dupree: Well first I don't feel that we're less talented. Yes, we may not have five-star talent at every position, but these guys can play football. To answer your question, the answer is a great and efficient offense. Normally when people think of that, they want to imagine someone like Oregon or Ohio State who put up 40+ points and 500 yards a game. That's great and all, but when you do that you tire your defense out and they give up more points and you get more offensive possessions. How efficient are you really if you have 14 possessions but only score six times? My ideal game would be to win the coin toss and hold the ball for the entire first half, get the ball back in the second half and run out the clock. We're going to come out and control the game with a great but conservative offense. My goal and this may be unrealistic in year one, is to score a touchdown on every single offensive possession we have this season.

Shaw: So despite your relative inexperience, you have close relationships with two NFL positions coaches among others. How do you plan to use this to your advantage?

Dupree: My defensive style has been heavily influenced by what Vance has taught me. He's one of the smartest guys I've ever met and he's a reason I feel it's important to build around a strong secondary on defense. How Mickey and he have influenced my play style is well documented, but where they have helped me most is how to build a team and get them to buy in. You look around at guys like Saban and Belichick, and they might not be schematic masterminds but yet all they do is win. On the other hand, scheme is extremely important and that's where someone like Sean [McVay] thrives. When I was coaching him I felt like he could have been the head coach right then. He certainly has helped me a lot and caused me to look at the game from a different perspective.

Shaw: What are your goals for this young program?

Dupree: I want to come in and build this team in my blueprint. You look at schools like Utah, TCU and Boise State and they were able to build strong programs because they stuck with what worked for them. There are other schools that had success for a few years but quickly fell away from what worked. If we can build something that works and stick with it, then I see no reason this can't become a major program.

Shaw: You got a bit of a late start by taking over in March, with the season about three months away is there anything special you're doing to make up for the time you've lost?

Dupree: All we can do is recruit and coach up the guys we have now. I don't really feel like we need to do anything that coaches wouldn't normally do. The private practices we had during the spring may have been the most unusual but that was to let the players focus and adapt to the change. I felt that would have been difficult to do with angry students and press swarming the practice facilities.

Shaw: Well that is all I have for you today coach. I wish you the best of luck this season.

Based on the interview it appears that Coach Dupree has lofty expectations for this program going forward. Only time will tell if he is successful, but he definitely is determined and confident. The Jaguars will have their full season schedule released next week.

South Alabama 2013 football schedule released

                    Student Journalist

NEW ORLEANS -- The official South Alabama football schedule was released on Sunday at Sun Belt media day, and the Jaguars will open conference play in a home game on September 14th.

INDENTWith all of the Jaguars out of conference scheduled beforehand and the Sun Belt playing a round-robin schedule, not much was unknown about the Jaguars schedule. The dates, times and location of the conference games were the only things left to be revealed at the conference media day in New Orleans.

INDENTThe Jaguars start the season off with a Thursday night home game versus FCS foe Southern Utah before traveling to New Orleans to take on the Tulane Green Wave. Their remaining out of conference games are on September 28th at Tennesse, a home game against Kent State on October 19th, and a trip to Navy on November 16th. All those games come off of a bye week, something that could be key in reaching bowl eligibility.

INDENTConference play starts on September 14th versus Western Kentucky, who boast an explosive offense led by senior running back Antonio Andrews. A trip to Troy on October 5th will be an early season night rivalry game and has the potential to be a great game. After their game against Kent State, the Jaguars will travel to Texas State for another night game. The following week they will host defending Sun Belt Champions Arkansas State. They will end the season with three straight conference games including two at home versus UL Monroe and UL Lafayette. Those two games will be split by a night road game against budding rival Georgia State.

INDENT"It's a really workable schedule," said head coach Desean Dupree, "there's not a game I look at and think 'oh I might as well mark it as a loss now'. I'm not saying we'll go undefeated but I see no reason we shouldn't make a bowl game." That could be a statement that could come back to hurt Dupree later in the season. The Jaguars are projected to finish seventh in the conference and many fans are still upset Dupree was brought in to replace former coach Joey Jones.

INDENTThat final three-game stretch will likely be the key to reaching bowl eligibility. Two home games and a game against the only team in the conference projected to finish worse than them may all be must-win games to close the season. If the Jaguars can win all those games they would be projected to finish 6-6. While that would make them bowl eligible, they would need help across the conference as the Sun Belt is often the first conference left out.

INDENTThe full schedule with times included can be found below. Times are subject to change, and television coverage will be announced at a later date.

MOBILE -- A month away from the season opener versus Southern Utah, first-year head coach Desean Dupree shocked many by releasing his depth chart.

INDENTMost coaches want to wait as long as possible to announce their decisions. Desean Dupree does not appear to be most coaches. "I just want to get it out of the way now," said Dupree, "it's just a piece of paper that really means nothing in-game." Dupree has said the depth chart is still subject to change and the players will have to continue to earn their spots.

INDENTThe initial offensive depth chart is straightforward. Fifth-year senior Ross Metheny will lead the offense with both his arm and his feet. The backfield will see up to six running backs getting consistent carries with junior halfbacks Jay Jones and Kendall Houston likely getting the bulk of the touches. In what many expect to be an option attack, senior fullback Ben Giles could also see a dramatic increase in action.

INDENTThe receiving unit is a strong point on paper. Junior wide receiver Shavarez Smith and tight end Wes Saxton could both be go-to-receivers on passing downs. Projected slot receiver Jereme' Jones is listed as the teams starting WR, which may be the most surprising thing on the depth chart. Sophomore Danny Woodson and senior Bryant Lavender will back up Jones and Smith. Lavender has earned the right to wear number 5 this year, a number that has gone to a senior with tremendous leadership skills since 2010 when running back Anthony Mostella died in a motorcycle accident.

INDENTThe offensive line can be seen as a weak point of this team. Sophomore left tackle Chris May is the only non-junior starter but also anchors the unit. While many expect this unit to struggle, it may also be a bright spot next year as all starters are expected to return. Offensive coordinator and OL coach William Vlachos praised the units work ethic, "They might not be the best unit in the country, but they work their tails off and I fully expect them to shatter expectations."

INDENTDefensively is where the major surprises lie. Three safeties are listed as starters, including a new "money safety". This appears to signal the Jaguars will run a 3-3-5 defense. If so, the three safeties on the field will be junior Terrell Brigham and seniors Charles Harris and Charles Watson. It is likely the three will be rotated regardless as coaches have said the three have been neck-and-neck in the position battle all offseason. The other members of the secondary are Anthony Harris and Tyrell Pearson at CB, with Darrius Morrow being a slot corner off the bench.

INDENTThe defensive line will be anchored by seniors Alex Page and Ceasare Johnson, who both are hoping for strong seasons. Fellow senior Romelle Jones also appears to have beaten out junior Jesse Kelley for the starting defensive end position across from Page.

INDENTSenior Enrique Williams will look to continue to be the leader of the defense, and his fellow senior and roommate Clifton Crews will be an important fourth linebacker. They will be joined by Pat Moore and Bryson James on the outside, both of whom did not have much competition in the offseason.

INDENTFreshman Brandon McKee will handle field goal and extra point duties, while senior Scott Garber handles punts and kickoffs. Shavarez Smith and Jereme' Jones will handle return duties, which adds to the rumors that South Alabama will be a heavy run team this season.

INDENTFour seniors were also named captains: Ross Metheny, Bryant Lavender, Enrique Williams, and Scott Garber. The season will kick off on August 29th vs. Southern Utah.

The AP released its preseason top 25 poll this morning, signaling the start of the NCAA season is right around the corner.

Florida State will open the season as the preseason number one with one of the most loaded rosters in recent memory. The defense will be their strong point and will be anchored by junior Timmy Jernigan, a projected top pick in next years NFL Draft. The offense is almost just as potent but questions surround how freshman Jameis Winston will play. Some consider him a potential Heisman dark horse and others think he will cost this talented roster a championship.

Rivals Auburn and Alabama come in at second and third in the poll, respectively. If both can live up to expectations, their annual Iron Bowl matchup could be one of the games of the decade and could come down to the final play. Two more SEC teams find themselves in the top ten in #8 Missouri and #9 South Carolina. Both schools feature top-tier defensive lines and experienced quarterback play.

Ohio State, who finished 12-0 but missed a bowl game due to a bowl ban, starts the season at #7 and many expect them to go undefeated against a weak schedule. If they do so, they would likely meet #4 Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship game.

To no one's surprise, the SEC leads all conferences with seven teams in the Top 25. The only other conference with more than three teams ranked is the Pac-12 who are led by #5 Stanford and #10 Oregon. The Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC all have three ranked teams. The newly founded American Athletic Conference has two teams (#15 UCF and #18 Louisville) and #20 Fresno State and #23 Northern Illinois represent the MWC and MAC respectively.

Last seasons runner-up, Notre Dame, starts the season unranked after losing a mass amount of talent.

Las Vegas released their preliminary odds for the Heisman Trophy and there was one thing in common among the favorites. They all play quarterback.

Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel will look to defend the trophy after becoming the first freshman to win the award last season. He is joined by another dual-threat sophomore in Oregon's Marcus Mariota who comes in fifth in the odds. Two juniors, Ohio State's Braxton Miller and Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater, and Alabama senior A.J. McCarron round out the top five.

Quarterback is also a popular position for dark horses with Georgia's Aaron Murray, Clemson's Tajh Boyd, Northern Illinois's Jordan Lynch, and UCLA's Brett Hundley have attracted a lot of money early on. Freshman Jameis Winston has also been a popular choice as the starting quarterback on a high powered National Championship contender.

Runningback is a bit of a weak spot this season, but Georgia's Todd Gurley, Arizona's Ka'deem Carey, and Oregon's De'Anthony Thomas possess the flash necessary to win what many now consider a "quarterback award." Boston College's Andre Williams, Auburn's Tre' Mason, and Alabama's T.J. Yeldon all possess elite skills in run-heavy offenses but are expected to put up lesser numbers because of their ball control focused offenses.

USC's Marquise Lee, Clemson's Sammy Watkins, and Texas A&M's Mike Evans have hopes to become the first receiver to win the award since Michigan's Desmond Howard won the award in 1991. If any defender has a chance to become just the second primarily defensive player to win the award, it would be former number one overall recruit Jadeveon Clowney from South Carolina. Clowney's hit in the bowl game against Michigan has been the top play on SportsCenter for nearly a year now. He will need more highlights of that caliber to compete for the trophy.

ESPN's preseason All-American list is dominated by upperclassmen, but it's two third-year players highlighting the list.

Redshirt sophomore QB Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M, and junior RE Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina, are widely considered the best offensive and defensive players in the country. It was a surprise to no one that they found themselves on the preseason list.

The hypothetical team would surround Manziel on offense with two Heisman hopeful running backs in Thomas and Carey and three projected first-round wide receivers. USC's Marquise Lee, Clemson's Sammy Watkins, and Texas's Mike Davis are three of the few players who would be upgrades over Manziel's current number one weapon Mike Evans. Tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins would be another option in the passing game while also being a tremendous blocker, something rare in the college game.

An offensive line featuring Michigan's Taylor Lewan and two Stanford players, guard David Yankey and tackle Cameron Fleming, would keep Manziel upright all day long. Virginia Tech's senior Center Andrew Miller would make every call necessary to ensure his fellow lineman never missed an assignment. Texas's Mason Walters may be the weakest link, but that is only if he chose to let his rival quarterback get sacked.

The defensive line around Clowney is deadly. Notre Dame's Louis Nix III, one of the few remaining players from last years championship team, would join Arizona State's Will Sutton inside to stuff any hope of an interior run. Virginia Tech's James Gayle would terrorize QB's with Clowney likely drawing double teams. Alabama's C.J. Mosley joins two Big Ten linebackers, Ohio State's Ryan Shazier and Michigan State's Denicos Allen, to create an unstoppable front seven.

UTEP's Adrian James seems like a surprise pick at cornerback but he has NFL scouts drooling at his potential with his speed and man coverage skills. Oklahoma's Aaron Colvin, Alabama's Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, and Washington's Sean Parker round a secondary full of speed and hit power.

Arkansas's Zach Hocker and Florida's Kyle Christy are both looking to continue their strong college careers and should see more action this season than they would on this hypothetical team.

Some notable "snubs" are Alabama QB A.J. McCarron, Texas A&M LT Jake Matthews, and Florida State DT Timmy Jernigan. The voters felt they were close and put them on the second team. They will look to prove to voters they should have been on the first team this season.

The good news is college football is back. The bad news is most teams play lowly FCS opponents this week.

There is only one matchup between ranked opponents to start the season, but it should be a great one as #22 Georgia travels to #12 Clemson in a battle of Heisman contending quarterbacks. Another great ACC vs. SEC matchup is Virginia Tech and Alabama meeting in Atlanta for the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game. Alabama is favored but Virginia Tech's defense and special teams could be the difference.

Other neutral site kickoff games include #16 LSU and TCU meeting in the Cowboys Classic in Cowboys Stadium, and Mississippi State and #13 Oklahoma State meeting in Houston for the Texas Kickoff Classic. All three of the notable neutral site games should be defensive battles.

#23 Northern Illinois will have to prove they are more than just a MAC team who can beat a weak schedule when they travel to Kinnick Stadium to meet Iowa. NIU will be a point and a half favorite for the game and Iowa players don't seem to be taking it well on social media.

Two of the biggest games this weekend aren't on Saturday. North Carolina travels to #9 South Carolina to kick off the season on Thursday night and #1 Florida State travels to new ACC opponent Pittsburgh on Sunday night to end the weekend.

While college football is a sport known for upsets, it is unlikely many happen this weekend. It may be a straightforward weekend, but then again you never know in this crazy sport.

RB Jay Jones breaks free for a long run over a slow first quarter

MOBILE -- South Alabama would win their first game under new coach Desean Dupree in an underwhelming fashion.

The Jaguars played host to the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on the first night of college football this season. They would pull out the 22-10 win behind 282 rushing yards and a good defense which only allowed 280 total yards and would finish the first half with a shutout. The Jaguars would also hold the ball for 62% of the game, or just over 37 minutes of game time.

The team would start slow, punting on their first few possessions. Junior running back Jay Jones would be stopped in the backfield repeatedly in the first quarter and the Thunderbirds were dominating the line of scrimmage. It wasn't until the second quarter when things got going. Inside the red zone, senior quarterback Ross Metheny audibled to a toss play to counter the Thunderbirds defense that was loading the box. The audible worked and Jones would score from 14 yards out. The Jaguars would add a field goal before the half after a two-minute drill drive that saw most of the passing attempts in the game. The biggest play on the drive was when Metheny squeezed the ball into Danny Woodson for a 36-yard gain.

The Thunderbirds would get on the board in the third quarter with a field goal. They were forced to settle for three after corner Tyrell Pearson had a diving deflection in the end zone on third down. The Jaguars answered with a long drive that drained most of the quarter but had to settle for a 24-yard field goal. After another quick defensive stop and long offensive drive, freshman Brandon McKee made his third field goal attempt of the night.

Down 16-3 and with time winding down, Thunderbirds head coach Ed Lamb knew he could not afford to punt the ball back to the Jags on 4th and inches. He called a run play for fullback Chris Warren, but Warren was stood up in the backfield and the Jaguars took over on the right side of the 50. Surprisingly, this would end up being their shortest drive of the night as Metheny kept the ball on an option and scored from 28 yards out. HC Desean Dupree would choose to go for two to make it a 21 point game, but Jay Jones would be tackled at the one on a shovel pass.

The Thunderbirds got a quick, long touchdown when Brent Randle burned Anthony Harris for a 74-yard touchdown. They would recover the ensuing onside kick when two Jaguars players collided going for the ball. The defense would force a turnover on downs and the Jaguars would just run the clock out. Dupree seemed to be pleased with the win following the game: "We held the ball for most of the game and we scored on five of our eight possessions. We didn't go three-and-out also which is huge." While Dupree is considered an offensive head coach, he also praised the defense which only allowed two scoring drives in nine attempts, and also forced two three-and-outs.

Students and fans did not seem to share Dupree's excitement. "It was so boring," said one male senior interviewed after the game, "If we knew this is what we were getting, we wouldn't have pushed so hard for a football team." Other students commented on the lack of passing attempts and the slow pace of the game. "If we're only gonna beat a team like this by 12 points I don't see the point of this coaching change," added in a 38-year-old alum of the university who has not missed a home game since football was added in 2009.

Dupree was unphased by the comments after the game: "They'll come around eventually. That's what winning will do, just look at Alabama." Dupree may be getting a bit ahead of himself by suggesting he could take the program to three championships in four seasons as Alabama has done under Nick Saban, but his point does still get across.

None of the players seemed to have a problem after the game. Jay Jones couldn't stop bragging to teammates about his 160 rushing yards and even quarterback Ross Metheny was okay with his low number of pass attempts, citing his 70 rushing yards and the victory. Outside linebacker Pat Moore was a nice surprise, finishing with three tackles for loss, a sack, and a fumble recovery. Many considered him the weakest starting linebacker heading into the season.

Fullback Ben Giles seemed to have trouble staying on the field due to injury, but he kept returning until the end of the game. Coaches told reporters after the game it was due to cramps and said they would focus on hydration next week. Wide receiver Shavarez Smith left the game early, looking to be in serious pain. He did not return and coaches said he would likely be out for"several weeks" but that they were unsure of what the injury was.

The Jaguars will travel to New Orleans to play the Tulane Green Wave next weekend. The Green Wave are currently playing FCS foe Jackson State at the time of this writing.

                            AUTHORS NOTE

I just want to start with saying this. I hate doing this. I hate starting dynasty threads and then stop posting. It's even worse when I do it this early.

With that said, posting right now is a chore. I feel all it does is take time away from playing the game itself. If this was 2013-14 I don't know if it would feel this way, but this game is now five years old, and this site is not what it used to be. I feel dynasty readership is down across the site from what I've noticed. It seems the only people getting that active readership (Tearz, Deegeezy, Cheese, SB19, etc.) are people who both A) have been doing it for an extended period of time and B) make incredible graphics and visuals that draw people in. I just can't compete with that and so for me to continue taking this extended time to report with limited (if any) readership and mostly just being for me to track my own dynasty seems like a waste of time and energy.

So instead I'm going old school with a notebook to track my dynasty. I'll be using spreadsheets here and there as well. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do with it, but I'm thinking occasional posts in "Hows your dynasty going". I might also post them on the dynasty tab occasionally. I'm not closing this completely--I may just take a hiatus and post the updates back in here, albeit more summary based to catch up--and I certainly am not quitting the dynasty. I hope this all makes sense to anyone who does actually care.
