Great coverage as always! Some very solid signings that could make an impact for you sooner rather than later. Also, I love how we get to see some of your misses as well, hopefully the loss of Morgan doesn't see him come back to haunt you when he's in that Green Wave uniform. Some great world building as always with the future scheduling news, it's always fun to get to check out some of the best atmospheres around the nation, and I'm sure the Big House will not disappoint!

Great to hear from you as always, R1zzo23.

Our team, on paper, is looking very solid as far as the future. We don't have very many seniors, and the ones we do have, have capable starters in-line to replace them. I expect a big leap next season from the core group we have returning, plus the additions we make.

I'm really looking forward to having Ryan Carter and Vince Cromartie locking things down for us in the secondary for the next few seasons; and we may not be done adding big time talent to the defense.

We have several very good players that we're after, and they will be highlighted in a couple of weeks in what will be a huge recruiting visit weekend for us.

Agreed man...I'm pretty pumped up about it. Cromartie looks like a potential game-changer for us. It wouldn't shock me if he comes in rated in the 78-80 range and be our top rated corner on Day 1.

Appreciate it, Moose. I try to add a few of the "misses" in there every now and then, especially when it comes to rival schools, as it will serve as a nice reference point a few seasons from now when/if they have big games against my team. Plus, at least in the early going, I absolutely have to report on any head-to-head recruiting battles I have with Tulane, for obvious reasons.

I love the phrase "world building." That's really what the long off-season and this first season has been about. I lost a TON of history and background stories when I was forced to change teams, so I am trying to be thorough here in trying to recapture that magic with my new team, both for myself, and for the readers. It's really to a point now where I truly feel like this is MY team, despite virtually the entire roster being comprised of players that I did not recruit.

      Thanks all!

Game 5, Year 1 Preview (2027 season): #7 Florida Gators at LSU Tigers

        GAME 5 PREVIEW

2026: Personal revenge may be on Geezy's mind as a result of last year's SEC title game loss to Florida back when he was with Tulane.

Game Capsule: An annual SEC divisional crossover matchup, LSU and Florida met last season at The Swamp in Gainsville, and the Gators knocked off the Tigers 33-26 via an 8-yard touchdown run by RB Elliot Johnson with :09 remaining. The win for Florida was their sixth straight over LSU, with the Tigers' last victory in the series coming in a 34-17 route at Gainsville all the way back in 2020. Saturday's game will be a personal grudge match of sorts for first year LSU head coach D. Geezy, whose Tulane squad lost to Florida in last season's SEC Championship Game 31-24, a loss that media sources have indicated may have directly led to him being let go by the school.

not as much overall team speed as I expected from Florida but they do look to have a few game breakers. Will be interesting to see how they deploy Kevin Austin in this one as he could be a problem.

Don't let any of those top three corners get the ball in their hands!

Maybe you can get a matchup with Danny Rodgers on Brady Carter in man and put one in the endzone?

Tough matchup for the Tigers here. That linebacking corps of Florida is SCARY. I think the real battle will be in the trenches for sure with your DL against their OL. They're very solid, but your DL is probably your biggest asset on that side of the ball, so if they can be disruptive all day and really pressure the QB, you may be able to shake them up enough to stay in the ballgame. Austin is definitely going to be the game changer, that's going to be a tough matchup for you as you don't have anyone that can compete with him stride for stride.

I believe anytime you play a team like this, one that is without question more talented than your team, I think it is very important to establish the running game early. It'll a.) help you control the tempo, b.) keep their talented offense off of the field, and c.) typically leave a lot less room for mistakes by your team. I really need my two offensive tackles to have good games against their two defensive ends in the running game, as I think we really matchup well with them. Scottie needs to bring his big boy pants to this one because we are going to feed him a good bit if the game flow allows it.

Kevin Austin scares the hell out of me. He's their backup running back and also their #4 receiver and a guy I am very familiar with because I recruited him very hard a few years back (did not get reported on unfortunately). He burned us last season in the SEC title game when I was with Tulane for a long TD that more or less put that game out of reach. We absolutely cannot let that guy get behind the defense, because we don't have a single person on that side of the ball that can catch him.

I definitely plan to try to set up some favorable matchups against CB Danny Rodgers. That's their weak spot on defense. Brady Carter could get some deep looks and I may even try to use the "strong slots" package sub to get my top receiver Glen Walker one-on-one against him (and of course, don't forget about out new slot weapon, QB Rob Mason).

Their defense really is sick up front and their two safeties aren't bad either. This is going to be a game where we're just going to have to play smart and efficient football. Maybe we can get an early score and get some early momentum and the crowd behind us.

I plan to bring plenty of pressure to hopefully disrupt their passing game like we did against South Carolina. Containing RB Elliot Johnson looks like it is going to be a tall order as well. It'll be really interesting to see if we can carry over the momentum we had against the Gamecocks when we shut down their running game.

You're 100% right though; we need to win this one in the trenches, because their skill guys are without a doubt an advantage for them.

That said, after two weeks to prepare and really think and strategize about this game in my head, I feel really good about it. Hopefully our guys come to play.

Thanks for the feedback and advice as always fellas. Time to kick this one off finally. Needless to say, I am pretty hyped up to get back at it following the bye week break!

EDIT: Looks like we have torrential rain in the forecast for this one.

Game 5, Year 1 (2027 season): #7 Florida Gators at LSU Tigers

                    #7 28 -- 3-2 (2-1)
                    NR 29 -- 3-2 (2-1)

True freshman PK Ross Bryant, who has faced criticism for several missed tries this season, came through with the game-deciding 27-yard walk-off field goal that gave LSU a monumental upset win Saturday night.

Behind the arms and legs of QB Rob Mason, LSU overcomes late deficit for potentially season-changing victory over #7 Florida in a wet 29-28 thriller | True freshman PK Ross Bryant's 27-yard field goal as time expires lifts Tigers to their biggest upset win in years, ends six game losing streak versus the Gators | Mason finishes with 452 all-purpose yards and 3 touchdowns to help catapult his team back into the SEC race | Date at Lexington with 2-3 Kentucky next on tap as suddenly surging Tigers hope to keep their momentum rolling

Baton Rouge, LA -- LSU had not beaten annual divisional crossover rival Florida since 2020, a losing streak that spanned six games. However, behind an impressive performance by QB Rob Mason and big plays in all three phases, the Tigers were able to overcome their Florida bugaboo to come away with a stunning 29-28 upset win over the 7th ranked Gators Saturday night at rainy and muddy Death Valley. PK Ross Bryant's 27-yard field goal as time expired provided the game's winning points as the Bayou Bengals were able to rally late to come away with a huge win.

LSU junior DE Matt Manning continued his play-making ways this season when he tackled Gators RB Elliot Johnson for a second quarter safety that made the score 9-0.

LSU came out of the gates hot early, putting together a 12-play 58-yard drive that lasted 4:44 and ended with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Mason to WR Glen Walker that gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead and set the early tone. Walker finished the game with 3 receptions for 68 yards on the evening.

Later, following a fantastic punt by Marcus Brooks that landed out of bounds at the 3-yard line, Tigers DE Matt Manning was able to corral Gators RB Elliot Johnson in the end zone for a safety that increased LSU's lead to 9-0.

"The special teams came through for us there, specifically Marcus," said LSU defensive coordinator Charles Kelly. "When you really think back on things, the argument could be made that that punt won us the game."

Following the safety free kick, already up 9-0, LSU was in position to pull away in the second quarter, and drove the ball all the way down to the Gators' 3-yard line. However, Florida reserve DE Rodney Robinson was able to strip Mason of the ball on a scramble and OLB Jamie Jenkins recovered and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown that made the score 9-7 and put the Gators back in the game.

Later in the quarter, QB Johnny Jackson's 38-yard touchdown strike to WR Vincent Hill with 0:42 remaining in the first half gave the Gators their first lead of the game, making the score 14-9 before the break. However Bryant's 41-yard field goal as the first half clock expired cut LSU's deficit to 14-12 and would later be proven pivotal to the outcome.

After Florida got an early second half 3-yard touchdown run by RB Elliot Johnson, set up by another Mason fumble on the first possession of the third quarter, the two teams battled back and forth the rest of the second half.

Florida would hold onto its lead for most of the game's final two quarters and would seemingly pull away when MLB Greg Peoples' interception off of a deflected pass at the line of scrimmage was returned 27 yards for a touchdown that increased the advantage to 28-19 with 3:41 to go, however Mason had other plans.

Mario Reed, who mans the Tigers' "Star" position on defense, came through with this big third down sack late in the contest to get his team the ball back with under two minutes remaining.
With his team in dire need of a quick touchdown to give themselves any shot, the former 4-star prospect and Gretna, Louisiana native would engineer a 5-play 82-yard drive that lasted 1:15 and culminated with a 13-yard touchdown strike to TE Lucas Rodgers. The much needed fast score cut the Gators' advantage to 28-26 with 2:27 to go in the game.

Florida (3-2) got the ball back with just over two minutes remaining and with an opportunity to milk the clock for the win, but after losing Jackson on their previous series due to an elbow injury, their offense did nothing with backup QB Will Andrews at the helm. Andrews' pass attempt in the flat on first down to RB Kevin Austin was swatted away by Manning to stop the clock. Then freshman CB Ryan Carter's run blitz resulted in a 5-yard loss on an option keeper by Andrews. And finally, safety Mario Reed sacked Andrews on third down, forcing a punt with 1:30 to go in the game.

"I told Charles to be aggressive on that series and he really called three great plays to set us up to get the ball back," said LSU head coach D. Geezy. "Interesting enough, last year at Tulane we were faced with a similar situation late in the game against Florida and we didn't come through with the plays we needed and they ran the clock out. Thankfully, our guys on defense gave us a shot tonight."

Following the three and out, WR/PR Brady Carter's 16-yard punt return put the ball in Gators' territory at the 47-yard line, and the good field position was turned into great field position due to Gators CB Darnell Hawthorne's facemask penalty on the tackle attempt, which put LSU at the Gators' 32-yard line with 1:20 to go.

The Tigers would run the ball four times, running down the clock while also getting the ball in position for Bryant's aforementioned 27-yard walkoff field goal. Bryant's successful kick gave LSU the win and sent Tigers fans pouring onto the field following the monumental upset. Bryant had come into the game 2 of 4 on field goals and 16 of 18 on extra points this season, including an inexplicable 21-yard field goal miss in the team's 28-24 season opening loss to Florida St., but Geezy believes his heroics on Saturday may be just what the doctored ordered for the true freshman.

QB Rob Mason finished the game with 452 all-purpose yards, including a career-high 162 rushing yards as LSU picked up a huge upset victory that could possibly turn the tide on its season.

"Good for that kid...he's taken a little heat here in the early going with the misses," said Geezy, who admitted after the game that this win felt good after last year's 31-24 loss to Florida in the SEC Championship Game back when he was with Tulane. "Hopefully this was the confidence booster he needed in order to turn things around."

Aside from Bryant's heroics, the story of the game was the play of Mason. The junior finished the game with 452 all-purpose yards and 3 touchdown passes, including a career-high 162 yards on the ground, showing the nation why he's earned the nickname "White Mike."

"When it mattered most, White Mike, I mean Rob, was able to overcome the earlier fumble and came away with some clutch throws and clutch scrambles to put us in position to not only stay in the game, but also win it in the end.

"Kudos to Rob and to all of the young men in that locker room. What a thrill this is for not just our team, but for Tiger Nation."

LSU (3-2) will travel to face Kentucky (2-3) next week at Lexington.

After cutting their deficit to 28-26, LSU was able to come through with clutch plays on offense, defense, and special teams in the game's final moments. Our video action begins with 2:27 remaining in the game.

LSU's players and cheerleaders alike had to brave the wet and muddy elements Saturday night at Death Valley.

Pic 1 of 2: On the final play of a 12-play 58-yard opening drive that lasted 4:44, QB Rob Mason threw a strike into the end zone early in the contest.

Pic 2 of 2: WR Glen Walker left his feet to take-in Mason's pass for a 10-yard touchdown that gave LSU a 7-0 first quarter lead.

LSU defenders celebrated following DE Matt Manning's tackle of RB Elliot Johnson in the end zone for a safety that extended the Tigers' lead to 9-0 early in the second quarter.

With the Tigers on the verge of blowing the game open in the first half, Florida star OLB Jamie Jenkins' 95-yard fumble return touchdown made the score 9-7 and swung the momentum over to the Gators in sudden fashion.

QB Johnny Jackson led a drive which culminated with a 38-yard touchdown pass to WR Vincent Hill that gave the Gators their first lead of the game at 14-9 with less than a minute to go in the first half.

Florida RB Elliot Johnson, seen here juking past LSU safety Mario Reed, finished the game with 18 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown.

With LSU now down 21-12 in the fourth quarter, FS Trey Wade stepped in front of RB Kevin Austin to come away with his team-leading fourth interception of the season and thwart a potential Florida scoring opportunity.

The Gators had problems stopping Mason as a runner all night long as the junior that teammates affectionately call "White Mike" finished with a career-high 162 rushing yards.

RB Scottie Rodgers had a quiet evening on the ground but did come away with this 19-yard touchdown that cut his team's deficit to 21-19 in the fourth quarter.

Gators senior LB Greg Peoples caught an interception off of a deflected pass by DT Ken Franklin and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown that extended Florida's lead to 28-19 with just 3:41 remaining.

With his team now down two possessions, Mason came through with several clutch throws, including this one across his body to S. Rodgers for a 19-yard gain that resulted in a first down late.

Freshman WR Brady Carter jumped on the back of TE Lucas Rodgers following L. Rodgers' 13-yard touchdown that cut LSU's deficit to 28-26 with 2:27 to go. The older brother of Scottie Rodgers, Lucas Rodgers finished with a game-high 7 receptions for 88 yards.

Tigers fans went nuts following PK Ross Bryant's game-winning 27-yard walk-off field goal that put LSU up 29-28 as the clock expired.

Mason finished the game with 452 all-purpose yards (278 passing, 162 rushing, 12 receiving) and 3 passing touchdowns, earning Player of the Game honors.

What a thrilling win! Defense really stepped up late to give you another shot at it. Glad you've been on the right side of these nailbiters lately.

All I've read so far is the final score and I'm all giddy.

Huge kick for Bryant, Love the uniform combo.

That punt and safety combo was a momentum swing for y'all for sure!

Scrambling QB fumbles keep me up at night, seems like a lot of them go for six too. Any strategies to limit those going forward?

Pretty good job keeping their running game in check and keeping Austin from making big plays.

Great win that shows this team has heart, could be in for something big sooner than later.

I'd like to see three more wins before the Bama game. Is that realistic?

Sneaking into the polls is nice too!

What an epic! win that was for sure.. Love the addition of highlights, your custom sounds really do make the atmosphere seem realistic as. I would love if NCAA '14 sounded like that.

However, did UF really try and Ice you three times
