what a great season it has been so far. i think if you were writing a completely fictitious story about a season it couldn't be better than this
that Alabama game is looming LARGE now!

You know, I was just thinking the exact same thing the other day. This season could not have been any more rewarding from a story-telling standpoint. So many twists and turns, players stepping up, players going through adversity, and it has turned into a Cinderella story of sorts.

I can't tell you enough how much of a blast I am having playing with LSU. It has gotten to the point now where I am actually happy that I was let go by Tulane.

And now it all comes to down this Bama game. It is going to take a near-perfect game for us to pull it out. Do we have it in us? We shall see.

Yes, he definitely is morphing into the player I thought he could be back when I was recruiting him at Tulane. He's given us such a big, unique advantage and really helps camouflage the team's flaws. I know I keep making this comparison, but he really reminds me of Michael Vick back in the early-2000s. Those Falcons teams back then weren't all that great, but that X factor of having a QB that could make plays with his legs helped catapult that team to greater heights, and that's what we're seeing from Mason, especially in crunch time.

I don't know if you'll get past Bama this season but it looks like you could finish up the regular season with three wins after that.

Normally, at the start of a dynasty, I wouldn't want to win this next game coming up or have quite the success I am having this early. But I must say, it has felt like a very organic underdog story, considering the # of close/lucky wins we've gotten along the way here, along with the luck we've had on the injury front :::knocks on wood:::.

I now really, really want to win this Alabama game and finish this Cinderella year off with a bang. I'm not even looking at those last three games; my sole focus right now is beating Bama and moving ourselves into first place. I have not won a mere conference championship in so long, and as a result I have learned not to take them for granted anymore.

Would you believe that my last conference championship victory came all the way back in July of 2016 in real-time?!

Pretty happy you got the LSU job and that you're having such an electric first season. Bama would be a hell of an upset.

No doubt about it man...it makes you really appreciate the title when it finally comes. I never imagined I'd have a conference championship drought that would span this long, but here we are.

Yes it would be, but not totally impossible. As you'll see in a few days when I post the preview, we're catching them in a somewhat down-year talent-wise, at least by their standards (they're currently B+ overall).

I think if we can come out and punch them in the mouth early with a nice scoring drive, and play some solid, error-free football, we have a very good chance. If we start out slow though, and that Tuscaloosa crowd gets going, it could be a long day for us.

I feel very good. I really want this win. I'm actually taking my time and will observe the bye week and not play this one until next Saturday night. We (I) will be very prepared. I am already HYPED for this one and will be bouncing off the walls by next week ready to get this game in!

Yeah it seems that most of the good teams are settling in at the B-/C range right now, with the great teams being B+ and only a couple of teams in the A range. I like the spread and it feels like the game results have been better than ever as a result, both for my team and for the simulated games.

(Almost) every team has a weakness of some sort, and I feel like the ratings spread makes the truly elite players really standout as well.

This is really the first time I have ever had a truly long-term dynasty like this, so it has been really interesting seeing how the recruiting class quality has fluctuated through the years. I'm sure we'll hit another period here soon where ratings start to rise again.

That's interesting. So there were points in the past where the were more teams than just Bama around the A average?

Yep...it's fluctuated back and forth quite a bit. On the default rosters, everyone was of course rated high as always, then things started trending down for 3 or 4 seasons, then starting around 2015 things went upward for a few years until about 2022, and probably the last 3 or 4 years, is where we've seen the ratings settle to where they are now.

I can specifically recall there being years where there would only be about 12 to 15 blue chip players in the recruiting pool. The last couple of years though, there's been about 40 to 50 blue chips per year, so I think we're about to start trending back up based on those players now getting older. I can actually already see it manifesting itself on several teams' rosters, who are plush with young talent on their depth chart behind seniors with similar overall ratings. Auburn, Arkansas, and Kentucky are three teams I can think of off the top of my head that should be better within the next couple of seasons.

In my head-canon, I have attributed the down years of talent to there being a period of a few years where a large faction of parents from about 2015 to 2019 weren't letting their young kids play football anymore because of the concussion study results, so that created a gap in talent once they all got to college age 10 to 12 years later

Another thought on the way things are playing out here too.

In addition to the underdog aspect of this Dynasty, the move to LSU also feels like what would happen if a big time coach like Urban, Saban, Dabo, etc went to a program like LSU that was down.

It feels like a coach of that caliber would come in and squeeze every last bit they could out of the roster in year 1 with types of ups and downs you've had. Now some of these close wins may have gone a different way, but it feels very real to me. Loving it!

Thanks brother...that's a very good observation, and I agree with everything you've said.

When you really think about the way this season has played out, we're literally three plays away from sitting here with a 3-5 record and this entire narrative being different - the interception to end the game versus South Carolina, the last second field goal versus Florida, and the two-point conversion run versus Kentucky.

Are we as good as our record is? No. But at this point, that does not matter...we are one big win away from sitting in first place in our division with two very winnable conference games remaining!
